We Gen Xers had the BEST cartoons ever! We had Voltron, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Spiral Zone, and Masters of the Universe. Kids today have ....."Peppa pig", "Sponge Bob", and "Paw patrol".

No kidding, Voltron makes an indestructible sword out of thin air while the skies behind him turned pitch black then blood red afterwards. Nothing good could come out of sticking around to see what happens next. I would just hit the warp drive and haul ass out of there. King Zarkon couldn't do anything worse to you than what Voltron would do to you with that sword in his hand...

The only way that won't happen is an ironclad, unbreakable, set-in-stone, forbidden to even make a suggestion to the contrary clause in the contract stating the 1984-1986 cartoon is the sole material for story, canon, all ancillary items. Also an overseer of some kind to mask sure they comply. Such a contract would have to have dire consequences if violated. Example :Any attempt to circumvent, change, defy, suggestion to try anything to contrary to the above provision constitutes violation of the contract and triple damages, the immediate termination of the project and rights revert to original owners. No established director, producer or film company will sign that kind of contract but it would protect a potential movie. An unknown director and independent film company might.
On the Death Battles TH-cam page, one video, they set up Voltron vs. Power Rangers. "In the final fight, Voltron got into trouble, but Pidge and his courage wound up winning the fight". (Won't spoil the video, should see it).
More like Voltron brings an inspiration of the megazords we knew today. As most megazords in the Sentai series before Voltron, they were just transforming vehicles or just giant robots from the start without forming together. But after Voltron, that's when the Sentai series pretty much start to pull out something similar and it sticks with the Sentai/power rangers afterwards.
You have to love the robeast's facial expression at 1:11...It totally reads; "Holy crap, I'm about to have my ass served to me on a five-lion course platter"....LONG LIVE LION FORCE VOLTRON....best cartoon ever.

Yeah, however it is not only Voltron's greatest Strength, but his greatest weakness....When he forms the sword, all of his energy/power abilities are placed into it. So it's known as his Last Resort because none of his other abilities are avaliable.
Admit it all of us who were alive then and had the toys: You had to do the whole "Active interlocks" thru "and I'll form the head" dialog whenever you put them together. And you hummed the theme while doing it. I was a child of the 80's and damn proud of it!!!

Japan didn't give us Voltron, World Events Productions did, all Japan gave us were the animation cells, the story, music, voices, etc were all American, GoLion is NOTHING, NOTHING like Voltron, not even close!

For me, it was 1986. I will never forget the day I saw those lions fly into the sky in an attempt to form Voltron. As a cartoon, it shaped my childhood, and so many others too.
When Peter Cullen said to me at a con last month, "Voltron-DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE!" My inner child did a backflip and cried in joy. And because I was meeting Peter Cullen, the last of my childhood voices I needed to meet.
back then cartoons had real drawn animation not the funky crap that's out today. I see some cartoons that my kids see and it looks as if I drew them. No type of definition in the arms or anything just spaghetti arms with fingers. Don't believe me look at adventure time cartoon.
You know it's funny that every time I see the classic Voltron and watch that part where they unite the lions and form the mighty robot whenever the combining sequence is completed and you hear Voltron become energized when you hear that it's the same sound effects of the weapons fire of the Martian War Machines from the original War of the Worlds man that was quite surprising to say the least.
They literally hooked a generation of kids with this sequence. The first episodes of this opening miniseries were mostly just talk about Voltron, but when you finally see him come together in these last few minutes it left you just wanting more. Talk about leaving an audience on a high! It's lasted almost 40 years...and counting!
Man how much anyone wants to bet back at the Castle of Lions Allura and Coran were watching this on the monitors with Allura crying tears of joy thinking 'Oh Father if you could see this the Mighty Voltron has returned' and with Coran probably thinking 'It's a Miracle the King of Robots is back'.
Every time I watch anything of my Childhood cartoon wise, I always smile. Especially anything Voltron Related. 47 now, and I still love the music the sound of the roars from the lions. I always got hyped as a child when they formed their sword. Still remember owning the toy. Die cast metal blue and Yellow lions. Made that toy so heavy. Lost my shit when my cousin dropped my blue lion and the stomach split open. Not going to lie I punched my cousin that day. I really also became a doctor to fix my toy. lol
Man just seeing the look on the face of that first Robeast the team fought after bringing Voltron back when the Robeast saw Voltron man the look on his face was priceless it was like he was thinking 'Man I am so seriously screwed'.
This transformation during that generation was probably equivalent to when Goku first bcame a Super Saiyan and Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan 2. It was just epic for that generation because up until that point, it was unique. There wasn't anything like it. It was something we had never seen before. I just remember the hoopla that this caused in school the very next day. Everybody was talking about it, the school girls and one of my school teachers talked about it too. Man!... That's just good times, right there.

Almost always. After losing sven and before getting the princess as a replacement pilot they fought a robeast using only the 4 lions. They won by the robeast cornering them by a lava flow and the red lion jumps on it knocking both of them into the lava where the robeast is destroyed but the red lion flies out unharmed since its den is a volcano.
I'll bet if Zarkon and Haggar are watching this back on Planet Doom they are probably majorly freaking out that the super robot they did everything in they're power to keep from returning is back and that it was all thanks to the Space Explorers who became the first to escape from Zarkon's slave dungeons and make it all the way to Planet Arus.
If I'm watching this, I'd find another planet to set my sights on. None of their robeasts stood a chance against that blazing sword, which everyone knew was coming at the end of every episode...

In my country they played a re-run around 1998. I was six at the time. To us kids in kindergarten, we were all mad about Voltron. We spoke the words like mantra: Формирайте стъпалата и краката! (Form feet and legs) Формирайте ръцете и тялото! (Form arms and body) А аз ще формирам главата! (And I'll form the head) It was a good childhood. And I miss it.
Little known fact Voltron was one of the first if not the first shows to broadcast in stereo so when I was a kid all the TV stores would turn to Voltron to show off the quality of stereo sound.

Almost always. After losing sven and before getting the princess as a replacement pilot they fought a robeast using only the 4 lions. They won by the robeast cornering them by a lava flow and the red lion jumps on it knocking both of them into the lava where the robeast is destroyed but the red lion flies out unharmed since its den is a volcano.
I'll bet if Zarkon and Haggar are watching this back on Planet Doom they are probably majorly freaking out that the super robot they did everything in they're power to keep from returning is back and that it was all thanks to the Space Explorers who became the first to escape from Zarkon's slave dungeons and make it all the way to Planet Arus.
If I'm watching this, I'd find another planet to set my sights on. None of their robeasts stood a chance against that blazing sword, which everyone knew was coming at the end of every episode...
@@ratesforless Hell yeah and if I was Zarkon I would order my forces to pack up and leave as fast as the ships could carry them and I would also tell my forces if they ask 'But Sire what of Commander Yurak' and I would look at them saying 'Forget about that idiotic fool he's failed me too many times especially now that Voltron is back all because Yurak failed to recapture the Space Explorers let him deal with them'.

Little known fact Voltron was one of the first if not the first shows to broadcast in stereo so when I was a kid all the TV stores would turn to Voltron to show off the quality of stereo sound.
