I honestly love that they didn't change the First Doctors regeneration. They showed the now signature yellow glow, but then they cut to the classic one. They don't rewrite the scene, they let the history stay.
Exactly. They did what needed to be done, nothing more, nothing less. Tho I thought there was still the entire regeneration scene? I know alot of the first Dr's series was lost, but I thought they still had the entire regeneration coz they reused it somepoint?
Matt looks directly at the camera when he says “I’ll always remember when the doctor was me”. Basically saying he’ll never forget when he was the doctor directly to the audience
Learning that Patrick Troughton quit out of fear of typecasting, him as the 2nd Doctor not wanting to regenerate makes me see his goodbye more for the fans
There's a theory that it's more powerful when the Doctor tries to resist it, but imo it's just because of emotion in general. 13 was clearly excited for what was to come and yet hers was one of the most intense yet
@@danielkiran8174 I think he means love as in compassion, which I think having compassion for everyone a is a good thing even if some people aren't the greatest
Every time people talk about Capaldi's regeneration, I think of that clip from a con where poor Capaldi choked on his water and when the audience asked if he was alright, he responded with "Nearly regenerated there."
I think the 10th Doctor's "I dont want to go" was actually david tennant not wanting to give up his dream role just yet. It makes me cry for him everytime
David Tennant is a liar! Why? Sure he said he didn't want to go, yet he quit on purpose to get other job opportunities! So which is it, David? Either you wanted in or out?
If he didn't want to give up the role why did he resign? Bit stupid of him. Literally stop making things up, the line wasn't written by Tennant, it was written by Russell T Davies. Tennant decided it was time to leave and left the show. RTD's book even makes it clear Tennant was offered Series 5 with Steven Moffat, considered it and then declined. Tennant was ready to leave the role and he did so voluntarily. The character is a different person. Don't mix them up
@@scarpergirl Why the attitude? Clearly he enjoyed the role, considering he's coming back, and even if you think you're done with a project, you can still be sad leaving it and the fun you had doing it.
I still get tears whenever I watch the 10th Doctors regeneration. it's honestly one of the most painful ones to watch, especially after he says he doesn't want to go
He was my 1st doctor too, I started watching on the 1st Christmas special with my mum, although she started way back when it 1st came back, I missed the entire 1st season
I never properly appreciated Capaldi as The Doctor until the end of his run, but even so, I have to admit that "Kidneys! I've got new kidneys! I don't like the colour" is a fantastic line delivered perfectly.
Clara ruined the last bit of Smith and the first bit of Capaldi for me. I’m glad I got over it and came back because Capaldi is one of my favorite doctors.
@@fluffin4beanit was bill who ruined doctor who for me. Capaldi wasn’t great either in my opinion but god damn they just pushed the white guilt to the god damn max
The 2nd doctor's regeneration is the scariest in my opinion. He's forced into it, thrown into a black void and forced to change. His begs of refusal echoing into the nothing for no-one to hear.
@@weird_donut114 for travelling through space and time, and meddling with time periods. The Time Lords 1st rule of time travel was to never interfere with the events or affairs of other times and places. They doctor constantly did that.
@nathansongsnob7335 I was thinking this. Since they only regenerate when they are dying, forcing him to "change" was a timelord euphemism for killing him
for me it was Matts Smiths regeneration into Peter Capaldi that made me the most sad as he was the first doctor who I watched from start to finish, and the moment when the doctor said " I'll always remember when the doctor was me" and knowing that it was Matt saying that and not the doctor had me on the brink of crying.
I was just sad it had such a great and emotional lead up only to have a flash into a new doctor :') I wish it was a bit longer to keep the emotion going
30:19 As sad as it was to have the change in a flash like that it made sense as The Doctor had already done the “theatrical” regeneration before this, exploding with light and energy, in the clock tower when he destroyed those Dales spaceships, so the regeneration was already 95% done, it was just held off in order to give Matt his last scene.
@lewisreynolds-samuel7187 I know right. My Dad started me watching during the Tenth Doctor and Matt Smith was the first one I saw from start to finish
I love that every single time the doctor regenerates he somehow manages to destroy most of the inside of the tardis. Then the 13th was smart and did it outside so she wouldnt harm the box.
@@markwalker8846 I think the instinct is for them to be in the time Vortex when they regenerate. However, after Nine, the regenerations started to get VIOLENT... usually because they were delayed (Ten because he held it back because he wanted to do the tour of his friends and companions before changing, Eleven because he actually was dying of old age (Though most of that damage was used productively in traumatizing the Daleks again) and Twelve because he was fighting it even harder than Ten was)
Out of all the regenerations, Matt's 11th Doctor still makes me tear up every time... I think in part due to Clara's sadness of not wanting her friend to go.
I remember watching this episode as Matt Smith was the first doctor that I watched during his run. I was emotional from the start of the regeneration in the clock tower.
It's a shame Matt's doctor left so soon after meeting Clara, I would have liked to see a whole season of them since they just seemed to fit together better to me.
@@nathanmassam9102 dude i felt the same but with Tennant. Yet i was lucky cause Matt ones so cool... but Moffat did something pretty amazing up and down with him; and Amy and Rory... Capaldi and Smith's final lines as their Doctors are still some of my favorites of the whole show: "I'll always remember when the Doctor was me." and "Laugh hard, run fast, be kind. Doctor: I let you go."
Night of the Doctor was impeccable. McGann hit it out of the park, and Moffat's dialogue is arguably at its best when he's under heavy runtime constraints.
I think the effects transitioning from Ten to Eleven are pretty bad, personally. In the transition from Nine to Ten, it’s all very smooth as the effects change from Eccleston to Tennant, but in the transition from Tennant to Smith, it’s just kind of a fade.
00:00 1st to 2nd (David Bradley (William Hartnell is dead) to Patrick Troughton) 00:52 2nd to 3rd (Patrick Troughton to Jon Pertwee) 03:58 3rd to 4th (Jon Pertwee to Tom Baker) 06:53 4th to 5th (Tom Baker to Peter Davison) 09:50 5th to 6th (Peter Davison to Colin Baker) 12:45 6th to 7th (Colin Baker to Sylvester McCoy) 13:42 7th to 8th (Sylvester McCoy to Paul McGann) 15:34 8th to War (Paul McGann to John Hurt) 19:12 War to 9th (John Hurt to Christhoper Eccleston) 20:31 9th to 10th (Christhoper Eccleston to David Tennant) 23:23 10th to 11th (David Tennant to Matt Smith) 26:58 11th to 12th (Matt Smith to Peter Capaldi) 30:56 12th to 13th (Peter Capaldi to Jodie Whittaker) 35:42 13th to 14th (Jodie Whittaker to David Tennant)
Love the detail about how when the doctors resist and prolong their regenerations it becomes increasingly violent when it does overtake them. Compare ten's, twelves's and thirteen's with nine's and eleven's. Eleven in particular just let's it happen and is much like the classic doctors; Nine holds it for a bit and we see some of that extreme energy, but nothing compared to the other
13 into 14 had some to it but that's likely due to the complications of not only reversing a prior forced regeneration from The Master, but also because it returned to an old face. 14 to 15 was just bizarre as it was at a time where the Toymaker was tampering with the rules of reality and a new rule emerged from it, causing 15 to split from 14
I feel like matt smith wasn't acting at all .. the way he looks in the camera at the lost second when saying "when the doctor was me..." was genuine. You can see the emotion.
Even if she didn't have a good run in the series because of a producer, I think Jodie's scene was a nice farewell as she was excited for what was coming next and not afraid
A nice change from having the TARDIS breakdown/explode in some way as well. I genuinely wished that Jodie had a better run under her belt, she didn't deserve the sh¡t show that was Chibnall.
@@ShadowKamehameha32 100% mate. Was super excited to see her as a Doctor when she got announced, so disappointed by the bad writing she received. Shame, could've been such a journey.
Thing is Chibnall is a legit good writer, Broadchurch is freaking phenomenal and he even had a few good episodes in his run. Issue really was he was forced to do the job because nobody else wanted it and Moffat apparently emotionally blackmailed him by saying “if you don’t do it nobody will and the show will end”
@@QDebodeshe certainly did the best she could with the abysmal scripts. She turned shitty scripts into meh episodes. But that one speech? The “I‘ve seen more, loved more and lost more” speech? Beautifully delivered. A rare nugget of gold amongst the Shitnall manure pile

I'm glad we live in an age where we can still see classic Doctors have new adventures, even with the original actors gone. David Bradley has kept the fundamentals of William Hartnell's Doctor intact while also putting a bit of his own spin on the characters, much like Richard Hurndall in the Five Doctors. If he had a live-action series, I'd watch it. But the Big Finish stuff that he's done is great, too.

I love Eight's regeneration. For one thing, it was long overdue, so seeing my favourite Doctor regenerate at last was sad but satisfying. Also, I just love the idea that Eight - a highly moral Doctor, partly in reaction to his previous self's grand scheming - gives up everything he is in his final moments, believing that he'll never be the Doctor again and preparing to become a warrior. An excellent and very satisfying minisode.
Yes, it was a shame we couldn't see more of the Eighth Doctor in the Anniversary Special, although Hurt's War Doctor was great too. But it is a time travel story, we could have had all four of them together.
Defenetly 8 was underrated and underused in the TV side of the story despite him having an entire movie for himself but he still has time to shine if the hyer upps want that ☝️☝️☝️ . Im still thinking about what 4th doctor said during "Time Day Of The Doctor " that the Doctor may revisit some old favorites so im still rooting for McGann to return .
@@alucard624 I'd love that. That being said his Big Finish work is brilliant and that's basically like having a series... It'd have a lot to live up to
I remember watching the 12th Doctor's regeneration for the first time and feeling sad as he is my favorite Doctor. His speech and Peter's delivery really made it emotional. However, as soon as he said "Doctor, I let you go." I felt less sad. I was reminded at that moment that regeneration isn't an end, but rather a beginning. The new Doctor may look different but always retains what he/she learned from their previous adventures. I still felt sad though seeing the 13th Doctor in Twelves clothes lol
David Tenant and Matt Smith's regeneration tear me up every time. I also loved Peter Capaldi's for how dramatic and poetic it felt. The others have had great moments but those really stick out for me.
I feel like Tennant had one of the saddest regenerations, just "I don't wanna go" and then the face so many people had seen for such a long time being torn away whilst the TARDIS seemed to be torn apart
I have a head-canon about 10's regeneration I've never been able to shake. It's set up by his comments during events leading up to the regeneration when he says things like, "Sometimes I think the Time Lord lives too long" to Wilf in the diner, echoed right before he steps into the control booth to release Wilf. In my head-canon, the entire sequence of 10 searching out and revisiting his friends and former companions was to say a true goodbye, because he'd decided in that moment that he saves Wilf that the Time Lord does, in fact, live too long -- he intended to reject regeneration and end his life. He holds this resolve all the way to the end of his final journey through time and space, taking solace in reconnecting with the ones he treasured, ending with his sly foreshadowing to Rose at Powell Estates. He holds his resolve as he enters his TARDIS for what he thinks is the final time...and then, right at the final moment, he pauses. It hits him all at once as he looks down at the regeneration energy struggling to do its work. Alone at the end, he has just enough flash of doubt, and he realizes that he can't give it up. He knows in his very core that he has more that he wants to do and, in that brief moment, his resolve breaks, and he utters the famous line. And with that, the universe avoids the greatest of all tragedies...having to exist without the Doctor as a part of it.
that is amazing and i can totally see how this could be... just imagine the trauma, that feeling of loss of identity that comes after every regeneration - yes you get to live on but its a life altering event much like a heart attack, stoke or major illness as a human leaves us never the same again! Even 14 isnt the same as 10 because he/she has been through so much as 11, 12 and 13 that it would be impossible to be the same person!
That's super interesting. I've always hated that line, because it felt nonsensical, but your interpretation is way better than how I've always read it.
That is an incredible theory and changes the worst pre-regeneration line into something fantastic. Would also explain why 11 is so happy afterwards. The regeneration worked. He didn't have to go.
15:08 Now we know why the doctor really never needs a weapon .. dude broke down a giant steel door with Kicks AND he had regenerated making him either more vulnerable or his enemies more vulnerable
Two's regeneration is rather horrific in hindsight. In the episode the Time Lords say that his sentence is exile and "changing his appearance." Well now we know that it's called regeneration and it triggers upon the death of the body. So really the Time Lords executed him, and then exiled him. Usually it's a choice between one or the other. Poor Number Two got both. Also, Doctor Who doesn't do dry humor like Nicholas Courtney does anymore. 5:36 to 5:54 is as underrated as it is understated.
Dang he didn’t even get to pick his either, they gave him a bunch of crap options and then said oh well I guess we’ll pick for you you ungrateful bitch 🤣
I know it's been said but i'm so, so glad that Paul McGann got another crack at the character through the Big Finish audios. He's regenerated the image of the Eighth Doctor from a kind of embarrassing movie-only version most people would rather forget into one of the best incarnations of the character. Fantastic actor. And now Christopher Eccleston too!
You can tell a lot about an incarnation of the doctor from their last words. You can see how much the 9th regained his self confidence thanks to Rose. You can tell that the 10th doctor loves being himself almost a bit too much. You can see how Colin Baker constantly got disrespected by studio execs.
The difference between 10 and 11's regenerations is so amazing. 10 didnt wanna die. 11 was ok with changing. 12 didnt want to but accepted at the end, 13 was ready to go. And i hope 14's gonna say "im ready to go this time" before regenerating into 15. Edit: 12 saying love is wise hits more when you realize 13 allowed herself to love a human besides River for the first time in 2 lives
Well remember that 10 had possibly the shortest and saddest lives of around 13 years first seeing the woman you love who wanted the old one back losing said girl gaining and losing a daughter meeting his future wife and seeing her die watching the end of time realizing that both he and his race were forgotten tortured mentally and physically by his old friend the master getting back his love but losing her to his human clone losing his best friend knowing that if she sees him again she'll die all to fight his old friend again and at the time seeing the death of his race again knowing he would die but just when he thinks he's beaten the odds again he sacrifices his life for a single human yikes

I love how snap fast the regeneration from 11th to 12th is. Previous Doctors had a long and sometimes painful to watch regeneration, while this one is done before you even realise it has begun. It's so surprising and a great introduction to Capaldi.
The 10th Doctor’s Regeneration still breaks me to this day. He was my favourite Doctor, I grew up with David Tennant as The Doctor and imo he had of the best run in Doctor Who’s history rivaling Tom Baker as The 4th Doctor
I don’t care what anyone else says. EVERY New Who Regeneration has been amazing. McGann, Hurt, Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, (Hartnell/Bradley), and Whitaker, all have amazing regenerations. My only gripe is not seeing post regeneration Eccleston. On a side note, I need more classic Doctors, I don’t care if they’re older now. I need it in my life.
'Rose' was sort of a post-regeneration story. He checks out his face in Rose's flat and is disappointed with his ears. He's also using high explosives when we first meet him. So he may still be a bit loopy and short of odeas.
@@skitster I'd agree with this take except that that one guy researching the Doctor found his face in a lot of historic documents insinuating the Doctor was in 9's form for a long time before he met Rose. He might've gone the whole time without looking in a mirror, which makes sense I guess, but considering the amount of times that guy (forgot his name) found the Doctor in history, he also probably missed a few occurrences, and that's a long-ass time to not look in a mirror. I want it to make sense, but that part always bugged me.
36:39 It occurs that this is one of the happiest regenerations we've gotten in a while. 12 had his new mission statement, but it was clear his lease on life was ended. 11, 10, 9? All of them focused on what was getting left behind, compounded by the presence of the companion looking fearful and sad at the loss of "their" Doctor.
9 & 10 both had short lives and were cut short due to sudden events. The whole "reset" thing around 11 to all Matt to do a goodbye scene kind of pivots that whole thing one way. And that he gets jumped back to his younger form just to give it up does lend into the focusing on the past. But 11 also went from being "the man who forgets" to "the man who has chosen not to forget" after day of the doctor. 12 learned the lessons 11 always struggled to and while he can reflect back on his life, he knew it was time to go and to look ahead.
@-sageaegis-292 I get that was the intention, but the way it was shot heavily implies 9 hasn't been around very long when he meets Rose. And as nothing in the episodes definitively says one way or the other, Davies and Moffat can just say what they want.
@@fatman12352612 learned the lessons but still struggled. He was still extremely jaded and always doubted if he would be considered a hero. He also became cold and calculating which was good for being pragmatic and efficient but Clara had to remind him to also be human. And that’s why 13 was the happiest Doctor because they finally learned to grow past the struggles and no longer had to rely on companions for emotional support but instead was able to just truly be happy with them as friends. She went on to fully embrace the hero role and had the fam she always wanted
5's regeneration scene is hands down the best one. Everything about it tonally hits the dark notes perfectly. It's a dark but fitting end to such a brutal story and to the 5th Doctor's tragic character as a whole. The characterisation of the 5th Doctor in general is amazing because it touches on everything in such a subtle and realistic way and Peter Davison performs his heart out with everything.
@@jellybabiesarecool4657 I've been on a 5th Doctor run for the last couple weeks. Audiobooks, episodes, Big Finish... can't get enough. Gah, Davison is extraordinary
Crazy that they waited until 9 -> 10 to actually explain regeneration to their companion. So much unnecessary trauma and confusion for those clueless Earthlings 🤣
For me, a clueless new fan, I was just "????" through 9's speech about Barcelona and being someone different. Then he regenerated and I was like "OH, that's the guy my friends like." There was still a hole in my heart missing 9, though. I think the follow-up special really hit it out of the park by having Rose go through an adjustment period, because of those of us who had no idea about regeneration weren't taking it too well.
I think we can all agree that Eleven's regeneration was the saddest and Tenth's regeneration was the most epic. His TARDIS literally got torn apart and everything fell over and he was crashing and IT WAS JUST SO COOL! Though when he said "I don't wanna go..." did make me a bit sad because he was also my favorite doctor.
Ten's regeneration will always be one of my favourites (simply because of that GODLY Murray Gold score combined with the incredible visuals of the TARDIS exploding), but I've got to hand it to Chibnall: he delivered a stunning regeneration for 13. For the same reasons I love 10's regen, but with a little more hope and happiness. Plus having her do it on a cliff to a sunset is actually inspired, rather than have her blow up the TARDIS with the energy again.
To all the Doctors who regenerated on Dr. WHO. Thank you. For all of the episodes and the fun.. The laughter, the tears, the teeth clenching moments, the mysteries of saving Planet Earth and the comings and goings of all the people and your companions that you met in your travels. Till the day that they had to say goodbye. Thank you for being you. That's what made this show so unique. 😊❤
The one thing that breaks my heart is how short the 9th Doctor’s time was. And I don’t just mean Eccleston’s contract, I mean lore wise. In the first episode, Rose, the Doctor reacts to his appearance like he’d not seen it yet, implying that at MOST a week or two had past since the Time War, since he’d (as far as he remembered due to the tangled time streams) used the Moment and killed his entire species. So he only got to be in that form for like 6 months, if that, before he died again. And knowing that it was so soon for him after the Time War, it explains why he was so cold, and distant and why he seemed to be searching out things to fix when he met Rose. Because I highly doubt he conveniently arrived in 2005 London just at the same time as the Nestene Consciousness was making their move. It felt like he’d been seeking aliens out, trying to be the hero again, because his last memories were pure destruction, at his own hands. It also explains why whilst yes he was sad he was dying, and a new man was about to take his place he was less stressed than his successor would be, because he honestly hadn’t been around long enough to grow attached to this particular face of his. He seemed more concerned about how his regeneration was going to freak Rose out and likely confuse and scar her, as it had for so many of his other companions.
Honestly, in retrospect, Nine seems borderline suicidal. He recklessly rushed into danger _so_ many times, and is so pessimistic about peoples' survival chances as a whole ("Just _this once_ , everybody lives!"), it starts to get a bit questionable. (And, y'know, he outright planned to kill himself taking out the Nestene Consciousness in _Rose_ .) With that in mind, his last line takes on a whole new meaning. Something like, say, "Rose, you were fantastic. And you know what? So was I! I'm not some monster that killed his own species to save the rest of the universe. I'm not some mass murderer who doesn't deserve to live. I'm the Doctor again."
Actually all the other doctors were around for hundreds of years before they regenerated, so most likely 9 was as well, as they all traveled on their own at times. If your going by what the doctor says 11 was around for like a thousand years (though personally I think he lies about his age to be on the younger side). So it's likely 9 was around for a while as well.
Headcanon, it was intentionally not stated it could of been a short time could of been a long time, I even heard he may of been ashamed to look at himself for a while etc
Troughton's regeneration is still so eerie. Finally started watching Classic Who last year and the early depictions of the Time Lords make them seem so powerful and distant.
The way Jodie shows all that sadness, saying things like "no no I need more time" (not this this video) and "the sad thing is I want to see what happens next", having her moment of total sadness over her own loss... and then one beat later looks up, changes demeanour and says "right then, Doctor Whoever you are..." like she's now ready to look change dead in the eye... it hits so hard, you can feel the acceptance and excitement with two words and one micro-motion. I think actors might actually be magic.
I mean, talk all you want about the Jodie era but her regeneration is the most good looking of all these. Even though Tennant and Capaldi hit the hardest emotionally.
I really liked 13's regeneration. It was quiet and bittersweet, but also incredibly optimistic. I wish they had focused on her character a but more through her run because it was moments like these that made her character unique from the other incarnations.
You have to admit that is has been a wild ride for Doctor Who fans from the very beginning. I remeber the first episode I ever saw of Doctor Who was the Pyramids of Mars playing on PBS. Thought it was gone for good at the end of 1989 with Slyvester McCoy and Survival. Here we are so many years later and talking about more new episodes and the 60th aniversary. A wild ride indeed.
I love how, of all the new doctors, Whittakers was the only one wise and cautious enough to not regenerate inside the TARDIS and wreck it. Seeing how wide these energy-arcs can be if unobstructed eally shows how dangerous it can be to do that inside the TARDIS, especially inside the control room.
Classic who doctors regeneration inside the police box, Hartnell, Patrick Thorton did actually regenerate in the tardis in season 6b, Davidson, collin baker, Sylvester Mc coy possibly in official cannon, if you ignore the tv movie cannon, Paul McCann possibly with no footage and the audio isn't good evidence of it occurring.
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 Yes, all pre-TimeWar and pre-moddern versions. There's a fantheory that something in the TimeWar caused all regenerations to become so volatile.
Of all the new Doctors her TARDIS was the one that needed to get blown up though. Not a fan of the crystal aesthetic, bring back the cyberpunk feel of the RTD run or Capaldi's TARDIS (the best modern).
Going from "I don't want to go" to a whole season having to face his own impending death, and then ending on "times change and so must I" is a hell of an excellent character arc for the Doctor.
Am I the only one who gets slightly annoyed about them using the twice upon a time version of the first doctors regeneration instead of just the tenth planet version?
I cried as a baby for each single regeneration and I loved each one of them. All the actors have done a majestic job. A moment of respect for all of them.
Anyone else think The Night Of The Doctor would be the perfect cold open to The Day Of The Doctor? I edited the two together at home and it works so well. And I like the idea of Paul McGann being in the movie. He more than deserves it for all the hard work he's done with Big Finish.
There's a rumour going around that RTD's new spin-off series, after _Torchwood_ and _Sarah Jane Adventures_ will be an 8-episode arc on the 8th Doctor reclaiming the Time Lord presidency on Gallifrey.
I'm still getting used to David Tennant doing the subscribe message. It feels like time has gone in reverse, while still feeling perfectly normal. Wibbly--wobbly, timey-wimey.

Well, it was actually due to the fact that he had a handy bio-matching receptacle to absorb the excess energy and prevent the change from going the whole way. His handy spare hand.
Isn't this missing the time David Tennant regenerated into another slightly different David Tennant? They said - in the show - that one also counted as a regeneration. That's why Matt Smith's Doctor thought he was out and needed a push by the Time Lords, even though it now looks like that wasn't actually the case.
Also i thought Peter capaldi's regeneration was beautifully directed, with the massive build up of flashing lights & the cloister bell, the music ending into the regeneration & then those beautiful shots around the TARDIS through Jodie's eyes & the ring falling off. Just stunning.

I've always loved how the doctor's final speeches are always presented like the actors own goodbye to the character of The Doctor.
Matt looks directly at the camera when he says “I’ll always remember when the doctor was me”. Basically saying he’ll never forget when he was the doctor directly to the audience
even tennant's final speech just being 3 words is so perfect for him and his character
"Doctor, I let you go" feels like it's also from Moffatt.
Then there first line is typically a very funny one. XD
Learning that Patrick Troughton quit out of fear of typecasting, him as the 2nd Doctor not wanting to regenerate makes me see his goodbye more for the fans
I like how the doctor went from calmly regenerating on the floor, to exploding the whole TARDIS.
10th doctor like
That was only the 10th doctor though
It's interesting that it seems to be getting stronger each time
There's a theory that it's more powerful when the Doctor tries to resist it, but imo it's just because of emotion in general. 13 was clearly excited for what was to come and yet hers was one of the most intense yet
its like a star, as they change, they get more and more powerful, before they tear themselves apart
"Hate is always foolish and love is always wise" great line
“And never ever eat pears” is even better 😂😂😂😂

"Hello, I'm Jodie"

Same, especially since he was my first.
The fact that that line was ad-libbed makes it that much more gut-wrenching.
They shoot the "I don't want to go" scene 4 times, 1 of them is where david said it while crying, imagine if they use the crying version

He was my 1st doctor too, I started watching on the 1st Christmas special with my mum, although she started way back when it 1st came back, I missed the entire 1st season

17:59 Will never not cry at "Will it hurt? ...good." coming from the sweetest and most optimistic incarnation of the Doctor.
I love that every single time the doctor regenerates he somehow manages to destroy most of the inside of the tardis. Then the 13th was smart and did it outside so she wouldnt harm the box.

Plus, he literally only got to be the 10th Doctor for 5 years.
I wouldn't want to fucking go either.

Capaldi’s regeneration speech never fails to make me cry
"New teeth, that's weird"
A while later....
"I know these teeth"
That regeneration is just obsessed with teeth xD
Took this video for me to understand that line.
Wow I never saw it that way
Dang he didn’t even get to pick his either, they gave him a bunch of crap options and then said oh well I guess we’ll pick for you you ungrateful bitch 🤣
Not just regeneration... but something that was mentioned in "Power of the Doctor": forced regeneration.
The Brigadier's humour makes that scene.
Nick Courtney is the most underrated gem of all Doctor Who
I know it's been said but i'm so, so glad that Paul McGann got another crack at the character through the Big Finish audios. He's regenerated the image of the Eighth Doctor from a kind of embarrassing movie-only version most people would rather forget into one of the best incarnations of the character. Fantastic actor. And now Christopher Eccleston too!
David's regeneration will always get me. But, Matt's speech of "We all change" is just amazing. Amazing
Well 11’s regeneration presents a bit of philosophy - that change is inevitable and that one must learn to embrace the change

You're right!
I like seeing the progression in production quality of the regenerations it really shows how much editing and TV has progressed its cool
My favorite too
If not one of the best Classic Doctor Who stories.
Underrated Doctor for sure
@@terneted409 one of the best
11 is definitely got the best emotional and good speech for regeration
I think we can all agree that Eleven's regeneration was the saddest and Tenth's regeneration was the most epic. His TARDIS literally got torn apart and everything fell over and he was crashing and IT WAS JUST SO COOL! Though when he said "I don't wanna go..." did make me a bit sad because he was also my favorite doctor.
David Tennant’s regeneration into Matt Smith will always be my favourite regeneration.
Matt Smith, regeneration of the doctor will always be one of my favorites and why I love the world of Doctor Who.
Let's face it. Paul McGann's regeneration is epic
Underrated Doctor too.
Not as epic as Smith’s or Tennant’s. Or maybe climactic is the word I’m looking for.
@@tivednagol9127 Yeah I felt like his regeneration didn't carry the same energy as the other regenerations
Yes, it is. For the first time, the doctor's spirit was broken at regeneration.
McDonald's sprite
Ten's regeneration will always be one of my favourites (simply because of that GODLY Murray Gold score combined with the incredible visuals of the TARDIS exploding), but I've got to hand it to Chibnall: he delivered a stunning regeneration for 13. For the same reasons I love 10's regen, but with a little more hope and happiness. Plus having her do it on a cliff to a sunset is actually inspired, rather than have her blow up the TARDIS with the energy again.
13 was the only one that had the forethought to exit the Tardis instead of blowing it up lol
Patrick Troughton's facial contortions are the stuff of legend
He waited his whole run to break out those bad boys
My favorite moment was actually that single shot of Eleven's bow tie falling slowly to the floor. Very symbolic.
Honestly I love the regenerations because they are awesome and it shows us how much the doctor has done to audiences
Yeah, they were better back then imo.
The saddest words ever, and after all this time, still bring me to tears, "It's the end...but the moment has been prepared for"
You have to admit that is has been a wild ride for Doctor Who fans from the very beginning.
The TARDIS was so sick of it, it literally threw her out and disappeared the last time. The Doctor must have finally got the message!
@@Logicalleaping Well, that is personal preferrence. I find every aesthetic fits the respektive doctor
Each of the regenerations are very special. Even the Six Doctor's sudden change due to Rani's attack.
Going from "I don't want to go" to a whole season having to face his own impending death, and then ending on "times change and so must I" is a hell of an excellent character arc for the Doctor.
I think amazing all that David Tennant has done since doctor who and he still holds it in his heart
Am I the only one who gets slightly annoyed about them using the twice upon a time version of the first doctors regeneration instead of just the tenth planet version?
No, because it still shows william hartnell.
@@Corinthians_verse12 transitions into Hartnell footage
Well, the original clip is still available around here. And it's not like we're missing much since so much of the original scene is missing
@Corinthians_verse12 at the start, it's David Bradley, but it transitions to William Hartnells doctor when regenerating...
@P.H. quite literally just search tenth planet regeneration, and it's the first clip, I think.
25:46 hands down most emotionally regeneration one legend swapped with another David Tennant changes into Matt Smith it’s too epic
I cried as a baby for each single regeneration and I loved each one of them. All the actors have done a majestic job. A moment of respect for all of them.
Tennants delivery at the end is so great! just these few words transport so much of the doctors emotions after that regeneration!
Every doctors send off really does feel like they told the actor to pick his final words. What a brilliant show.
Anyone else think The Night Of The Doctor would be the perfect cold open to The Day Of The Doctor? I edited the two together at home and it works so well. And I like the idea of Paul McGann being in the movie. He more than deserves it for all the hard work he's done with Big Finish.
Watching the 8th Doctor's regeneration makes me long for a live-action McGann series. He is excellent in the role.
I know, right? At least he has a shit ton of audio adventures under his belt.
I would like him to get a episode where he works with the new Doctor
I wish he'd been in the 50th Anniversary episode instead of the war Doctor.
Wibbly--wobbly, timey-wimey.
the end one was a big shock for everyone, we all thought another actor who we had only seen a bit in a few clips was going to appear and BOOM an old favorite reappears...

Always Dr Who! 5o'clock on Saturday. Unfortunately once I started work didn' get home till 6! So missed most of Patrick! The Zarbis made me scared of ants! Loved the transformation to the third doctor. Jon Pertwee was brilliant! Sean should be proud of his dad. Dr Who should carry on, there are always people to keep watching, as long as there are people to write the stories to keep us watching!
I won't lie, Jodies regeneration was really good, the scenery, the regeneration energy cgi and the music, my god the music was beautiful.
props to 13 tho for FINALLY regenerating outside and not wrecking the tardis again
Maybe she remembered what she did to the TARDIS when she became 11 and said to herself, "I should probably exit for this."
10 to 11 will always have me sobbing no matter how many times I watch it.
You missed one; When Ten gets shot by a dalek, regenerates, and DOESN'T CHANGE by force of willpower.
Well, it was actually due to the fact that he had a handy bio-matching receptacle to absorb the excess energy and prevent the change from going the whole way. His handy spare hand.
God, Amelia showing up right before Matt Smith changed broke me. To this day, they're my favourite Doctor/companion combo.
Mine too bud love that era
Isn't this missing the time David Tennant regenerated into another slightly different David Tennant? They said - in the show - that one also counted as a regeneration. That's why Matt Smith's Doctor thought he was out and needed a push by the Time Lords, even though it now looks like that wasn't actually the case.
Also i thought Peter capaldi's regeneration was beautifully directed, with the massive build up of flashing lights & the cloister bell, the music ending into the regeneration & then those beautiful shots around the TARDIS through Jodie's eyes & the ring falling off. Just stunning.
