I'm so glad Nick got out of debt two years ago. He's already working on getting back to better scrips. I'm rooting for him to return to his glory days.
Damn. His paychecks really took a nose dive over the past 5 or 10 years. I know he mostly does indie films now but still. Hard to believe even if he isn't in his prime earning era anymore. Enjoyed the vid as usual.
Well, @petep5207, I think you have a long watchlist then. I love his recent work too. Pig was interesting, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was actually really good.
I love that movie too, @sebastiancalle88! But compared to its budget, it didn’t make a lot. Keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the cinemas.
I may post it in more detail sometime, @arielsaravia4228, but for now, here's an overview: BOMB: 0 - 1 Budget to box office ratio FLOP: 1 - 1.5 Budget to box office ratio AVERAGE: 1.5 - 2x SEMI HIT: 2 - 2.5x HIT: 2.5 - 5x BREAKOUT HIT: 5+ BLOCKBUSTER: 3+ and among the highest-grossing movies of the decade ALL-TIME TITAN: among the 50 highest-grossing movies of the decade If you think I'm being a bit harsh with this, please keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the cinemas, so a movie has to earn at least 2x its budget just to break even. Also, this recipe is a work in progress, I'm trying to finetune it.
Nick Cage can act i think his best Cameron Po in Con-Air 1996 Seriously and Maybe Kiss of D 1995 id say the only The reason why he got a leg up in the acting Entertainment industry is because of Famous Auntie Thalia Shire (Adrian from Rocky Series Rocky's Wife) and her Brother Nicholas Cage's Unc Francis Ford Coppola! So there you have it! Oh Forgot To mention tremendously hilarious as the Country Bumpkin Who falls for Holly Hunter's police Officer Character try to adopt a Child in 1987 classic Raising Arizona!
To do four or five movies, in one year, I'll bet that Nick Cage shoots all his scenes in a short time & moves on to the next project! In his later years, his "Indy" films have the look of elongated television shows & that's why they don't make money!
Whether he likes it or not, being a Coppola really helped him continue to get projects, despite the very dismal performances of his later films. There really is nepotism in showbiz in the US.
How can you call so many movies that made their money back "flops"? And you call movies that made double their budgets "bland". I doubt the investors thought that doubling their investments was "bland"! When you just listed the dollar amounts and let us determine for ourselves if the movies were hits or not, it was interesting. This isn't interesting. 🤨
Thank you for bringing this up, @latebloomerabroad! A movie actually needs to earn at least twice its budget to break even, as box office revenue is shared between the studio and cinemas. My labels reflect this.
The issue is distribution. The company has to split revenue with the those that distribute and show the film. If a film’s box office matches its budget then generally speaking that means they lost money.
Because he took anything and everything he could get to pay off outrageous amounts of debt. He just became debt free 2 years ago. Now, he's more "selective" with his roles.
If you noticed this, it means you've watched quite a few of my other videos. Thank you for that @Gareat, I really appreciate it. As for Nicolas, he just had some bad luck. You know, I got loads of comments urging me to update my labeling strategy to reflect that movies need to make at least double their budget just to break even (box office earning are split between cinemas and the studio). I decided to make the update because that's the realistic approach. And guess who came next when I made this decision? Poor old Nick-someone I respect for his earlier work, and I think even some of his newer movies are actually good.
This is super confusing to how you graded many others. You got blend or luckluster for some that made over $50/100m profit but other actors you have breakeven or hits. I know you tried to explain but keep it consistent with how you graded others please. Because no way something that make $100m profit is a flop.
Thank you for bringing this up, @Jayjay1lm! Actually, my labeling was quite off in my older videos, as it didn’t reflect the reality that box office earnings are split between studios and cinemas. A movie has to make at least double its budget just to break even, not to mention marketing costs, which are rarely included in the budget. I owe everyone an apology for this confusing update, but rest assured, this new direction is the realistic one. Bear with me as I'm fine-tuning my content. 😉
@ no it’s fine thank you for clearing that up for us. I love watching your videos and I wasn’t trying to criticise just wanted to understand why things were different but thank you for explaining it as I have a understanding of how things work as I myself didn’t know films had to double their box office to break even. I’ve just finished watching your Eddie Murphy one 👌🏾👌🏾
Thank you, @Jayjay1lm! I’m glad to hear you love my content. However, I haven’t covered Eddie Murphy yet, so you probably watched a competitor. Looks like my idea started a whole new niche on TH-cam. But be careful with those copycats-most of them lack genuine passion, focus solely on clicks and views, and don’t put much effort into research.
Yeah, well, it’s not a great label name - I know that now. I don’t use it in my recent works anymore. The recipe is a work in progress, so bear with me.
I think I understand where you're coming from, @antonioesteve! If you think I’m being a bit harsh with these labels, keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the theaters, so a movie needs to make at least twice its budget just to break even.
All this money he made even when they were flops is crazy that’s what black actors are talking about not fair pay because he made money even when the sun was down
Been liking your videos but This one didn’t care for. You Put bland as a rating and Lack Luster why? the ones you picked on were like average semi hit and hit. Why the new Categories? I’m not a big Nickolas gage fan but sounds like you really don’t like him There was a couple movies the you put bland lack luster that were pretty good. Could you respond ? This is the only video I gave a thumbs down to.
If you noticed this, it means you've watched quite a few of my other videos-thank you for that, @Mphil4266. I really appreciate it! As for Nicolas, he’s just had some bad luck. I’m constantly trying to improve my labeling strategy, and this particular step in the process was a misstep. The aim was to highlight that movies need to make at least double their budget just to break even, as box office earnings are split between cinemas and the studio. I decided to make this update because it’s a more realistic approach. And guess who came next when I made this decision? Poor old Nick-someone I really respect for his earlier work, and I think some of his newer movies are actually quite good, too. By the way, I don’t use labels like 'Bland' and 'Lackluster' anymore. Feel free to share your feedback on my recent labels-I could really use it since this process is still a work in progress. Thanks again, @Mphil4266!
He’s putting in the effort for sure, @pixelpatron! As for Stallone, his video was the first one I published on this channel: th-cam.com/video/4eT9-5TAgzQ/w-d-xo.html
Every nick cage movie my eye. Where is battlefield earth? I enjoyed that movie, even though others didnt. Its worth a rewatch. Croods was dumb af how did that make so much? I guess kids dragged they parents to see it
Lord of War is underrated
So true
I'm so glad Nick got out of debt two years ago. He's already working on getting back to better scrips. I'm rooting for him to return to his glory days.
Frozen Ground is a great story...I'd say half of his bombs (red movies) are actually good.
Agreed! Pig is interesting and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is actually pretty good!
Damn. His paychecks really took a nose dive over the past 5 or 10 years. I know he mostly does indie films now but still. Hard to believe even if he isn't in his prime earning era anymore. Enjoyed the vid as usual.
He was never really a box office draw type of actor
Served up more turkeys than thanksgiving 😂
I appreciate the 4th wall break explanation.
That is a lot of movies that need to find a second life!
Thank you, @tudorjason! It’s great to get feedback on important bits like these. I might make this a regular thing in future videos.
Please do Will Smith too
His "bombs" & "flops" would even be worse than Nicolas Cage's!
@@rongendron8705 says only you
Totally love your channel… keep up the great work… Could you please do Johnny Depp???
Thank you so much for your support, @Gregs-of-Society! It really means a lot to me. I’ll definitely be diving into Johnny Depp soon! 😉
Do Gene Hackman
Next was seriously a diamond in the rough. I loved that movie
Agreed.
Do will smith, Jim Carrey and Steven seagal
I love this man
Chiapas Actor
Color out of Space was actually really good.
Christian Bale next please
Noted, @nikkolas3073! 😉
I will watch ANYTHING Nicolas Cage is in.
Well, @petep5207, I think you have a long watchlist then. I love his recent work too. Pig was interesting, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was actually really good.
gone in 60 seconds was a semi hit?????? That’s a classic!
I love that movie too, @sebastiancalle88! But compared to its budget, it didn’t make a lot. Keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the cinemas.
Can yo post de scale by wich a movie it's a hit, semi-hit, etc? Thanks!
I may post it in more detail sometime, @arielsaravia4228, but for now, here's an overview:
BOMB: 0 - 1 Budget to box office ratio
FLOP: 1 - 1.5 Budget to box office ratio
AVERAGE: 1.5 - 2x
SEMI HIT: 2 - 2.5x
HIT: 2.5 - 5x
BREAKOUT HIT: 5+
BLOCKBUSTER: 3+ and among the highest-grossing movies of the decade
ALL-TIME TITAN: among the 50 highest-grossing movies of the decade
If you think I'm being a bit harsh with this, please keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the cinemas, so a movie has to earn at least 2x its budget just to break even. Also, this recipe is a work in progress, I'm trying to finetune it.

Bombs, hits, ups n downs, the man carved out a living, lowest paychecks were still exceeding 9-5 minimum wage.
really like Lord of war
Seems like once the 90s hit he started to make the millions
6 billion? Damn,
Its almost like hes trying to get his own production company off the ground by doing all them indy movies
He was trying to get out of debt. He owed the IRS millions he’s good now.

Well, I have to, @Theyaintme_cb6! I’ve gotten loads of comments asking for it. 😀
Stephen Segal
Why he's not even a decent actor
It will be fun!
Do Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise next please.
Great picks, @jaywilliams1289! Pitt is coming soon and Tom is already published. Enjoy: th-cam.com/video/m1FxgqX_xK4/w-d-xo.html
the most hit movie stars are John Wayne and bruce lee😲 only blockbusters
That may or may not be true, @henrikfox8960, but it’ll be fun to put that to the test. Challenge accepted. 😉
Does anyone know why his money dipped so drastically around 2016?
Cuz he's unpredictable, his movies are either bombs or hits. And I think he got into some debt around there
Can you do one for Richard gear?
Sure thing, @moodyd67! Added to the list.
And Billy Dee Williams, please!🙏😃
@@moodyd67 Gere*
Johnny Depp
I knew he had done some real stinkers , but the actual amount is staggering.
Damn, I feel like I looked up a boxers record on boxrec and seen more KO losses then wins 😂.
Only good movie kick ass
I wonder if anyone watching this saw Rumble Fish in a theatre.
1996 and 1997 were his prime
Whether he likes it or not, being a Coppola really helped him continue to get projects, despite the very dismal performances of his later films. There really is nepotism in showbiz in the US.
Never liked him, always thought he was to wooden, every character is the same x
CHRISTIAN BALE

evidently you're not in business
I was thinking the same thing. Cruise has 100 mil movie make 200 mil and it’s a hit. His is bland or something else. Makes no sense
@@BoxOfficeJoe not to mention marketing budgets sometimes a marketing budget can exceed a production budget.

Michael Caine has been in some flops.
Great suggestion, @Martin.C.777! I'll check him out too!

I’m not a fan of Nicolas Cage I only seen one movie he played in that was Face Off.

He does not deserve even 1 dollar. Worst actor ever.
Almost 3/4 of his movies are bombs, flops, and lack luster. A loser over the past 10+ years.
Nicolas Cage = worst actor ever... EDIT: Tied 1st with Keanu Reeves
