I've been wanting a diesel rabbit for the better part of the past 4 years, just something about the car really appeals to me. Really enjoyed this video, hoping to snag one of these cars fairly soon.
I’ve crossed the country many times in mine. It can do a 100+ HOUR drive easily. Shouldn’t even need to check the tires Can a rabbit drive one oil change without breakdown. Yea. Many many times.
Well my grandpa drove 197x (we don't exactly know the year, but it was made in 70s i suspect '78 or '79 because it had plastic bumpers but short taillights) yellow golf mk1 1.5l diesel. I remember going on a big road trips with him 500km (310 miles) in one direction, 12 hours, he drove it 120km/h (75mp/h), hell that was a good car!
Runnin' that baby wide open on the highway for hours, she is gonna drink some oil as it looks like you found out! What'd you pour almost 1/2 quart one way? Not quite the "doesn't burn a drop of oil" car you said a few vids back! Love the car and you seem like a cool guy and gal to hang out with, if I ever make it up to Canada I'll buy yall a beer.
Sometime after 13:00, you said "you're getting better", at that point, i knew the VW sickness had control lol. You might actually need another one, that might cure it lol
Just waiting on the paint! Once it's painted I'll refresh the brakes and other odds and ends, then it'll be ready. I want to take it from its home here in Florida to Utah and back.
Chris Wow that'll be a nice long trip! Sounds fun you'll have to let me know how it goes! Show me some pics of your car after it's painted! Thanks for watching
I hope it goes nice haha. It'll be a little while from now before it's road worthy but I can't wait! I'll go out west and pick up some more Rabbits lol. Do you have an Instagram account? We could follow eachother and see how each's car is coming along
Just a pointer. I packed up and hit the road indefinitely in my mk1. Loaded wayyy down. That was over 5 years ago. I’m getting ready for another trip shortly These were built for the autobahn.
Well Chris the old ones keep on ticking and usually are easier to fix. My 83 dodge 150 truck had the slant 6 and ran like a gem. started every morning even at -10 f. best wished to ur grandma hope all is well.
Richard Best I agree totally the old gems are much easier to wrench On! I love the old pick up trucks to I bet the 83 rides like a dream! I love the 6 cyl engines I had one in a 77 Nova once. Thanks for watching bud. As for Grandma she's in a better place.
This and That with Chris yea I could tell by the camera that your rabbit is way faster than mine...I'm jealous lol maybe I need to put a 4 speed trans in
drove my 80 diesel rabbit from riverside to san jose, no problem at all only problem was to stay awake!

Game Test They are the best! I got a 1.6L diesel in mine now. The 1.5 blew out the head gasket so i just swapped it.

As for Grandma she's in a better place.
She runs like a champ! Awesome! What miles per gallon or km per gallon did you get on the trip?
Yes she's a good old Puddle jumper. I got 63mpg. Thanks for watching bud!!
WOW!!! Amazing MPG!!! She's a runner!! ha ha!!
Cory Anderson yes it's a good one
@@thisandthatwithchris1984 what MPG do you get with the 1.6?
Greets Bart from the Netherlands
That's awesome! My rabbit will only run 60-65 wide open...mine is a 84 5 speed 1.6 diesel maybe they changed the gear ratio on different years?
Diesel J not to sure mine goes 75mph if I want it to.... not sure something must be different
Diesel j mine does the same thing about 60-65 tops
David Dorsey mine does 75mph no problem.
This and That with Chris yea I could tell by the camera that your rabbit is way faster than mine...I'm jealous lol maybe I need to put a 4 speed trans in
Diesel J she rips hard lol
Do you have an estimate as to what your rpms were at around 70? Was the motor turning pretty hard?
I dunno how many rpms she revs.... She screams along like a champ. That's the way them old cars are. Run forever at 70 mph...
So where are you from since talking about saskatoon
It's pronounced mark. Not emkay.
Your trans is a 4 speed or 5 what's the code on the bottom?
Waterboxer 4spd
This and That with Chris if ya ever get around to seeing the code when your working on it I'm curious what it's equipped with, thanks.
Waterboxer Will do ! All I know us it's a 4spd.
Gotcha bud, saw your later vids and seen you swapped the motor and possibly trans. I have an 80 1.5D myself with an o2o 5 speed.

Waterboxer Wow that a nice one! Same color as mine but a 2 door.
