      -Does it support 3440x1440 10bit 175Hz 4:4:4? Or it needs chroma subsampling? Does the DP 1.4 support DSC?
      -Does it support freesync when connected by DP 1.4 or only g sync?
      -Does it have a fan? If yes, it it audible?
      -Does it support 120Hz on xbox series x/PS5? Does it support VRR on xbox series?

      $1300 USD seems like a pretty cheap price to pay for such new technology... Should we be expecting Samsung to release their own monitors that can be competitive with this pricing, or is it wiser to just jump on this now?

    Thanks for the solid review. I bought the original version of the Alenware 34" display in this form factor a couple of years ago, and it's been great. Looks like the QD-OLED technology makes it worth an upgrade. And whoa... even in this video, Cyberpunk looks stellar with the deep blacks and great contrast. Wow!

      You're viewing what a camera captured on your own screen. That's not the way to gain any real valuable insight. Basically you're impressed with the monitor you already own at that point. You have to view it in person. So take the video with a grain of salt. It's more about what they're saying about it.

    • @LionelGeek

      @@tywilson3689 My monitor is the almost three year old version.... it's basically the same external design, so the chassis looks similar. That's about it. QD-OLED is a big step forward vs. what I have. Fair point on not being able to tell much based on what I see in this video.

    5:05 I kinda disagree massively with this part. Assume you are hyper-competitive, what would you go for? 240hz monitor with 4ms pixel transition or 175hz monitor with 0.1ms pixel transition (needs additional testing ofc)? It is difficult to call a shot, but complete elimination of ghosting and ultra-clear motion picture gives massive advantage to QD-OLED even for pure competitive usage.
    Why would you be stuck with the resolution? There are countless ways to make this monitor run at traditional 1440P 16:9 layout with black bars. You can set it on Nvidia control panel, on game resolution, etc etc. If you are not going to get any benefit from widescreen you can easily downscale. If else extra FOV is actually really helpful in some games. If you are talking about 1080p you are right but on the other hand I don't think we need to worry about 1080p anymore considering competitive games are already pretty easy to run and GPU's have gotten so powerful. Some competitive games like R6 even support DLSS

      Pillarboxing/letterboxing is also less annoying on OLEDs due to the unused portion of the display being pure black.

    • @Navhkrin
      @Navhkrin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@adamek9750 That is eye tracking related blur which is only applicable if you are moving your eyes. When it really matters your eyes will likely be at crosshair which is middle of screen where you wont have any eye tracking blue as you are not moving your eyes around. Also when you are picking corners etc. Eye tracking motion blur isn't that big of a deal IMO.

    my overall first week experience with this monitor is as follows :
    1. if the game supports windows auto-HDR feature, a small confirmation pop-up notification appear on the lower right corner of the screen and when it does, your game would shine with colors and perfect HDR experience. if the pop-up notification doesn't appear, you would have a basic and not professional level HDR experience. I played Ori & the Will of the Wisps and Hades and with windows auto-HDR support, it really is an enjoyable experience, particularly with 2 to 5 percent window 1000 nits brightness that this monitor supports, small specular highlights really shine magnificently.
    2. the monitor has slight flickering and brightness-shifting issue in the loading screen of the monitor.
    3. with HDR turned-on, video-recording of your gameplay would be messed up badly. so if you plan to record your gameplay, the only option is to turn-off windows HDR and play your game in SDR instead, which is really sad. this is also applicable when working with video-editing software like Adobe Premiere.
    Overall, I am satisfied with this monitor, its wide-screen form factor and satisfying-level of curvature. if your main intention is to play video games with this monitor, it is absolutely a very good choice to buy it but if you plan to record your HDR gameplay with geforce experience feature, your recording would be a mess.
    if anyone have found a way to record their HDR gameplay without pircture getting messed-up, please share it with me. thanks.

This monitor is primarily for those who wanted 144hz+ refresh rates with OLED picture clarity. As someone who is using a 65” C9 as my gaming monitor, can’t see myself justifying the price tag on this one for higher refresh rate, and better picture quality in a smaller/lower resolution package. 120hz and 4k is hard to beat, even with this being a worthy competitor.

Also, phones have been elongated aspect ratios for years now. It certainly does not bother me e.g. to have the black bars when watching videos.
      Also worth noting that usage scenario can affect how much it matters. For dark room usage, the black bars would not matter at all. Whereas this would still be a problem on non-OLED displays where the black bars would still be lit up.

    No mention of the response time. Having excellent motion clarity with 175 hz arguably makes this better for competitive gaming than a 300+ hz monitor, because once you hit your limit in terms of reaction time, simply getting high visual acuity on a fast-moving scene probably provides a higher benefit.

    • @RocBoii
      @RocBoii 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey buddy, I understood right this better then 240hz monitor? I was thinking of getting the G8 cause the 240hz with one 1ms. Is this better then? Thank you in advance.

    • @ALmaN11223344
      @ALmaN11223344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RocBoii I'm pretty sure what he's trying to say is that the instantaneous response time that OLEDs are known for is what would arguably make this better than 300hz...anything close to 1ms is really tough for conventional display techs, especially VA, and even the fastest conventional panels (TN) still typically have higher response times across the range than any OLED. The way this issue comes out in day to day gaming is through clarity of moving images, tests like UFOTest will make a great example of how clear an image displayed by a monitor is. For anyone even considering this monitor I recommend buying right this second, I just got mine and I'm showing a delivery date in June...worst case you can just turn right around and sell it if you don't like it, someone will pay top dollar for a QD-OLED monitor when (not if) they sell out.

    • @eggnogsaber
      @eggnogsaber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RocBoii It depends what you're trying to achieve. If you're trying to reduce latency (the time it takes for you to see the scene after it's rendered), then refresh rate is key, but the benefit is limited in a couple of ways: 1) FPS - your benefit from refresh rate is only as good as your FPS. 240 hz with 100 FPS is only as good as 100 hz. 2) Your own reaction time. If you can't react to things happening in 1/240th of a second, then what's the point? Higher is better for most pro gamers, but for mere mortals, our reaction time caps out well below 200hz. On the other hand, if you're trying to reduce motion blur (smearing), then response time is king. There's a relationship between refresh rate and response time (usually a higher refresh rate indicates a faster response time), but it's by no means one equals the other. There are high refresh rate monitors with terrible motion blur and some lower refresh rate monitors (100 hz) with technology like strobing which gives excellent response time. OLED (or QD-OLED in this case) gives exceptionally good response times by nature (note the designation of 0.1 ms vs the usual 1ms), which means superb sharpness/clarity with movement/turning. This is very important for following what's going on in a scene and responding accordingly. Of course, we are dependent on reviews which actually test this to guarantee that this monitor carries through on this promise, but it's a pretty sure thing.

Everybody (or most) say that above 144 hz you can't tell much difference when switching to 240 hz, and this is 175 hz. Besides it has no ghosting and low latency. @Luke Larsen A few things:
    One, this monitor does not have HDMI 2.1 for a reason - G-Sync Ultimate is not compatible with 2.1. I wish you had explained this, as it was NOT a cost-cutting choice. The vast majority of buyers use this with a PC and use DP anyway. I doubt many console owners are in the market for a $1300 ultrawide monitor anyway - they usually opt for 42"+ TVs at the proper 16:9 aspect ratio for their boxes.
    Two, who honestly cares that it doesn't include a crappy set of speakers?? Anyone in this league is using external speakers or headphones anyway. The extra cost for the 99.9% of us who would have kept them at zero volume forever would be a waste.
