Yo, Sandra Dee was a real person!?? 🤯 I thought that was a name that Rizzo came up with in Grease 🤦🏽♀️ Smh smh Karine you really be coming out the vault with people!
The first thing i said when i read the title!!! Now im wondering if Sandy’s character is intentionally based off of her or if it was just a coincidental reference
Her mother knew that man was attracted to her daughter and she purposefully used her daughter to lure him into being her husband. Every bit of her life was deliberate and premeditated by her mother. As a little girl my mom had hair just like Shirley Temple, cute little dimples too. We’d sing that song to her because it was her name also. Rest in peace mumma. I love and miss you Sandra D 🕊️
And years later, karma came back on her mother like a boomerang 🪃 in a form of cancer! That's what happens when you treat your own flesh and blood like shyt throughout the years 💯
Oh Gosh... Poor Sandra Dee. Thank you for covering her story, especially the courtship of Bobby Darren: narcissistic people or people with clinical NPD will appear very charming, persistent, relentless love-bombing and charismatic... until they get what they want and their mask falls. Ladies, emotional abuse and not respecting your boundaries is the first red flag. Him name-calling 'Sandra Dee has a flee' is a first red flag, no loving man will hurt you to get your attention, but a narcissist thrives on attention, even bad one, that's the difference between a normal person and a toxic one. If a man pursues you and that makes you uncomfortable, it's not because a lady is so amazing but because the man has some mental issue. Ladies, be careful out there.
My goodness I always thought she was a delicate doll. Always loved her A Summer Place, Gidget, Imitation of Life. That Beyond The Sea movie really opened my eyes about her life. May she rest peacefully 🎀🕊🌷
🧡💛 Karine, I love your voice and speaking style. A delight to hear! You present interesting stories. I wish you all the success. Keep it going👍🏻🕊️🙋🏻♀️ All the Best in 2025 and beyond!!🎉
Sandra Dee was the epitome of "America's Sweetheart". I grew up watching her as the original "Gidget" and in numerous films where she always seemed to charm the audience. Little did we know about the personal struggles no child should be subjected to. I was equally surprised about the treatment she suffered during her marriage to Bobby Darin. RIP Sandra Dee🧡💛🧡💛 On another note, the life of children's book author Dare Wright (Dec.3, 1914-Jan. 25, 2001) might be an interesting one to follow up with. Thank you.
My parents weren't perfect but although others wanted them to push me into beauty pageants and some sort of movie career because of my appearance, they both were not having it and protected me from it. When I was a teen and was told about this by my Mom at first I was upset, but now I understand it. I'm so thankful that they protected me from this exploitive industry.
This was deep ... unfortunately I know from experience of how it is to have an unhappy mother attempt to live her life through you. It is borderline a form of Jezebel (dominance, control, overbearing). It took for me to make a stance and go low contact like a "love from a distance" and respectful no "sorry this happen" or advice needed . And I'm like many on here didn't know "Sandra Dee" from Grease was real😂
It almost physically hurts listening to her life’s story. So innocent, naive & helpless right from the very beginning ...... what possible chance did Sandra ever have to be just a normal person ... ??? NONE !!!! God hopefully is now blessing her in his loving embrace forever more. 🙏🙏💔🙏🙏💕🌎💞 RIP sweet Sandy💔.
Ma’am, I’m so glad I found you. I’ve been watching you for. I think it maybe a year now and you are just a joy to my life! I want to tell you that you are a blessing! Happy new year and Jesus bless you in this coming one🫶 thank you for everything that you do all your hard work❤️❤️❤️
What a sweet sweet comment 🥺🥺 thank you so much for this. Sending you blessings, love and the same positivity you freely give tenfold. Thank you for being here ❤❤❤
I believe that her Mom dealt with high level abuse, mental illness, & witchcraft because she was definitely tormented, and unfortunately Sandra 😢 was at the mercy 🥺 of her 💔 care.
Love this! however drinkin epsome salts is not dangerous in and of itself. It’s a good cleansing agent and provides body with magnesium. If consumed too much it can be a laxative but doesn’t induce vomiting.
Good job, Karine. I loved her with john Gavin in the imitation of life. I'm still asking you to do a biography on Judy Pace, a forgotten beauty from cotton comes to Harlem. A black movie from the 70s
To this day I do not understand why her son didn't step in much sooner and get her admitted for help. Different time. Different era. Everything shame based. If it was my Mom.....I would just plow forward. Dee's interview with Sally was heart wrenching, she was falling apart and a bag of bones. Very tragic ending to such a cute and talented young girl ousted by Hollyweird.
I loved Sandra Dee in the movie Gidget! I forgot she was in the 1959 version of Imitation of Life. An incredible actress yet such a hurt and troubled soul. 🕊🧡💛
🙋🏾♂️ I'm 57 years old and I can't watch Imitation of Life without crying. I first seen that movie at 15 years of age as a late night movie. A boy did I cry.
Oh wow that was her i remember watching that with my mom. When i was young i was taking back on how she treated her mom. I was very confused when i saw a dark skin lady with such a fair looking child but aging i was probably 10 or younger so my mind wasnt that mature
I used to watch a lot of old movies on The 4:00 movies (on ABC network channel 7)on weekdays or on Sundays (WPIX channel 11).. Her movies "Imitation of Life" "Gidget" and "A Summer Place" were some of my favorites!
Karine, thank you for covering the life of Sandra Dee. She remains one of my favorite actresses. It is so sad to hear how awful her life off screen. 💛💛💛🧡🧡🧡. Karine, thank you for all the wonderful stories you do on these iconic ladies and gentlemen of music and movies. Your channel is fantastic!! I wish you and your family all the best!! Have a blessed and joyful New Year!!🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍🎉🎉🎉
I don't know if Saundra knew how to love. Love is KIND. Sandra wasn't kind to herself. She was not taught like MANY of us about self care & love. And whwn she became adult, she chose to keep her mother & Bobby on her life. Clearly pathology played a part! But People don't know how to love themselves rarely know how to love others in a healthy non toxic way! Excellent video💯
She was supposed to be at his shows. Bobby sounds a little like what James Brown did to Tammy Terrell. Brown demanded that Tammy watch all of his shows.
Her character in imitation of life was the opposite of what she went through in real Life - the SA part she fell in love with her mother’s boyfriend!!!
I think that Bobby acted out and acted up because of his childhood illness. And he knew that illness/disease would drastically shorten his life. And he knew he wouldnt live long, so he lived hard and sometimes, wrong.
That is all true!!!! You did an amazing job! 🧡💛🧡 l am a huge Bobby Darin fan l got all of his records! Bobby and Sandra were a perfect looking couple. Sandra a beautiful doll! Both Bobby and Sandra are Taurus ♉️... like me! We do love hard ! ❤❤❤❤
💛🧡. Thanks for the summary of there life. Her life was just so sad. One of her last roles was in Night Gallery’s “Tell David” story. It is one of my favorite installments- she is so lovely and fragile.
Such a sad story! Proof that she had talent was how much she is still adored for her films. I cannot believe that she was even able to live to the age of 62 with all of the dangerous eating, drinking, and smoking habits. Ms. Karine, would you please do a story on her co-star in Imitation of Life, Susan Kohner, who played Sarah Jane. She is still alive, I think, and she is 87. She is 2nd generation Hollywood, and has 2 sons that are also in show business, but work behind the camera. She left show business in her mid-twenties to get married, and I don't think that she ever came back. I wonder if she was happier leaving that world?
Love your calm voice , your amazing spirit and well done research. ❤ love this channel. Giving voice for the stars that created our society as we know it
People like SD who start working really young and under pressure have short lives. She died at 61 if she was born in 1944 and not 1942. 61 is not that young but it's not old either. Young old age I guess.
I love the 1930’s version. That had the subplot where the two mothers created a hugely successful pancake batter business. I liked that the it demonstrated that each of the mothers was economically independent in her own right.
Hi can you please do Vera Ellen for your next video I recently watched white Christmas for the holidays and I just love how elegant and glamorous she looked during the movie and I would be static if you were the one to do a cover of her life ❤

“I've always had a problem saying what I feel for fear of having someone dislike me.” -Sandra Dee
Thanks for the trigger warning because this one was really hard, really hard to get through some parts I had to ff😢
You could tell she was just a genuine person, an angel
Love it. Could you please check out Jean Simmons, the actress.
Let this be a reminder for myself in this New Year 2025! No more people pleasing! Happy New Year to you 🎊

Loved Sandra Dee in 1959's version of Imitation of Life. Such a TRAGIC story. Rest peacefully Sandra Dee. 😔🙏🏾❤️🕊️💛 🧡
That movie/story was desperately sad. Hard for me to watch.
Yes! Absolutely heartbreaking film but so important

lol yes she was a real person and a sweetheart at that. Sandy’s character was based on Sandra Dee ❤

Both of them were sick. Her mom sounds like a creep too. Poor baby never had a chance💔😢
This is so heartbreaking. The fact that her mother allowed this is just sick and sadistic.
She didn't care about her daughter. She cared more about herself
And years later, karma came back on her mother like a boomerang 🪃 in a form of cancer! That's what happens when you treat your own flesh and blood like shyt throughout the years 💯

Some mothers never deserved to be called mother nor did they deserve their daughters so sad 😢
Sandra Dee, another victim of a narcissistic mother and husband. Her story resonates with me. So sorry for her 💛🧡
In grease “ I’m Sandra Dee”

What a heartbreaking story. You always speak so eloquently and with such empathy.

😂😂😂 soon as I saw the title, I started singing that song.
Check out Imitation of Life. Best movie ever.
@robbinsally3982 I love that movie too! Dang! I didn't even realize that she is the daughter! Wow......

Sad that children get sucked into this world and their parents care more about getting famous than keeping them safe. Pretty heartbreaking💔
