Yes, I believe she was Creole as well. However, I believe she falls under the original definition of Louisiana Creole.. which is a person of French and or Spanish descent. Creole is derived from the word "criollo", which means native or local, and is meant to be a class distinction. I think it's the Spanish we are seeing. I'm mixed myself, and that's my hunch, but anything is possible.
Dorothy was friends with Dona Drake who was also passing as white and they were in a few movies together, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dorothy was a little black.
Her eyes are beautiful but they don't seem dark. They are light. Even in black and white photos you can tell. Being from Louisiana it is possible she might have had some African ancestors but I don't think she might have been aware of it nor do I think she was deliberately passing. She might not have had African either as Spanish/French/Native Americans were part of Louisiana history. Not all Europeans are pale blondes either. Kind of reminds me of Lacey Chabert, also from Louisiana, who seems a little "exotic".
In her color pictures. You can clearly see that she had some Black ancestry. And genetic testing in the 90s was done on hundreds of Louisianians who identified as White. ALL came back with Black ancestry.

Dorothy Lamour was simply gorgeous. As for her racial heritage, it's probable she had African ancestry. She was from New Orleans where being multi-racial was/is common. She also refused to discuss her father. I don't think she deliberately passed for white. That said, due to her exotic looks she got typecast as non-white beauties. If she had truly wanted to be taken seriously as an actress, she would have studied acting. Still, she had a wonderful career and a flair for comedy.
The blonde interviewer is Rona Barrett, who deserves a video of her own. Hollywood stars were much more alluring back when they didn’t have surgery to look like each other.
Having Louisiana Creole roots , I know a Creole when I see one. She was typical of creoles who moved to Texas and California to pass. She’s up here looking like the singer Chante Moore and dancer Carmen de Lavallade, both of Louisiana Creole legacy.
She definitely gives me creole. I definitely think there is some black in her somewhere. Very Tina Knowles(ish). Definitely not white. Or a white woman passing as black. Her features are too strong.
If the majority of your DNA is white, then are you passing for white? ...but rather passing for a black person passing for white. The one drop rule doesn't work for me. If you look more like American of primarily European descent, rather than of African descent, then you are that. I am puzzled why everyone wants to throw every one into the black ethnicity, since there is only one race - human! Only with ethnicity are people to go against the majority of your makeup if a small percentage is African. This makes no sense. I wonder why black people want to claim everyone.
@pagemastrogiovanni9195 Please repeat this! I don't get it. It's some sort of psychological disorder. Every person with some African ancestry is not Black. It's not fair to actual phenotypically Black people and the mixed race person who has other ancestry.

Thank you so much Karine for your in-depth biography of Dorothy Lamour!!❣❣ I have long loved and admired Dorothy Lamour😍🤩🥰 I loved her exotic looks, including the sarong looks. I used to think she was Italian, like me. She might have Irish roots, as I have. I'm a bit surprised of her being critical of herself, yet we all are, so it's not so surprising afterall. What was surprising was those rubber shoes she had made. I don't know if it helped or if it was worth it? It is unfortunate and unfair how powerheads in Hollywood treated women. I'm glad God guided her by the hand, as she stated. I can understand her referring to her dog as her boyfriend. Dogs are the closest thing to God. No man/woman has the same unconditional love as a dog has. There is never any judgments only love for each other.
She definitely looks Mediterranean to me. Alot of people get mistaken for being biracial who family descends from nations along the Mediterranean. You can tell she is French too possibly Italian which wasn't considered white in her day which would be why she seemed to not speak of her dad's ethnicity.
Very interesting biography for sure, but I would have liked to hear more about her views on politics during her lifetime as she was "good friends" with Hoover, who was vicious and hateful towards Dr. MLK Jr, and may have been influenced by self-hatred. Thank you for sharing, Karine.

Absolutely gorgeous woman! ❤ The rubber feet was a curious thing, but she was still perfection. I love how she felt she was blessed. She knew her relationships were what mattered, and she had that!
As a woman you deal with getting old the same way in the regular world as in hollyweird and I believe it's because of the way women age we don't all age gracefully like men do.
I feel like Hover & Dorothy were just really good friends Y didnt the 2 just marry if they were really involved. Mayb they shared the fact that there was a question of their ethnicity I dont believe Dorothy was black. If she was the percentage was so negligible it wouldn't be worth mentioning U do know other ethnicities exist that have a dark complexion with dark, curly, & wavy hair. Anyway this was an interesting story. Thanks for sharing!
Why always such a big emphasis on race? Just curious. Many people are mixed with many things depending how far back you go. And..if she had "some" black, some white, some other whatever, you cannot say she wasn't white. A little of any of the mixes does not wipe out the others, hence "bi racial" or "mixed races". Those mixed are the most gorgeous IMHO.

GREAT...SHE WAS A WINNER. PERIOD!
Other than the feet, this woman is a complete angel no scandal. Accounting Hoover.
Big surprise there's no evidence to prove what happened with the FBI guys, I guess if anyone could get any and all evidence destroyed it would be these FBI heads/directors. And Dorothy survived these guys just shows she was smart, charming and kind and caring. Thanks Karine!
I love your videos! Can you do one on Abbey Lincoln. I haven't really seen much on her and you do your research so well. Much 💕
She was passing chyle looking at the later interview she was definitely a sister 😊
One of my favorite movies is her in My Favorite Brunette
Absolutely gorgeous woman! ❤ The rubber feet was a curious thing, but she was still perfection. I love how she felt she was blessed. She knew her relationships were what mattered, and she had that!
SHE IS SO VERY BEAUTIFUL!
Liz Taylor had dark hair so are many others
Do a video on Roseanne please
Hello Karine and commenters
Always thought Beyoncé looks like Lana Turner. The face similarity is uncanny.
I always thought Beyonce looked like Lana Turner. Even as a child in the 50s watching her movies, Lana never looked all that white to me.
As a woman you deal with getting old the same way in the regular world as in hollyweird and I believe it's because of the way women age we don't all age gracefully like men do.
She looks Latina to me ❤
I think Spanish. She reminds me a little of my Spanish grandmother Helena, with dark hair and blue eyes.❤
Latinas are not Spanish
I have black hair olive skin and blue eyes and I'm Italian.
This is a white woman.D am not trying to be messy or mean .💜We need to stop trying to to make everyone black when they are obviously not.
Classy Lady 💕
5:56 On this very pic, she looklikes Kate Winslet !
i was an 80's kid who loved watching classic films on AMC. i had a big crush on Dorothy. she was such a hottie.
She favor Nina Mae
I feel like Hover & Dorothy were just really good friends
Y didnt the 2 just marry if they were really involved.
Mayb they shared the fact that there was a question of their ethnicity
I dont believe Dorothy was black.
If she was the percentage was so negligible it wouldn't be worth mentioning
U do know other ethnicities exist that have a dark complexion with dark, curly, & wavy hair.
Anyway this was an interesting story.
Thanks for sharing!
She was gorgeous plan and simple
What’s with all the lipstick far beyond the lip line?
❤❤
Why always such a big emphasis on race? Just curious. Many people are mixed with many things depending how far back you go. And..if she had "some" black, some white, some other whatever, you cannot say she wasn't white. A little of any of the mixes does not wipe out the others, hence "bi racial" or "mixed races". Those mixed are the most gorgeous IMHO.
I agree (1 Timothy 2:9).
