One more thing...I did completely sink it (by accident) in the lake and the the drive quit working for a day. I dried out the receiver overnight and it started working just fine. The receiver box is not waterproof. There are water access spots. I bought an ESS dual sound module and it makes wheeling so much more realistic and fun. I would definitely recommend the Scout Gen 8 for the money. I prefer a 2S Lipo over the 3S. For one reason it's not as jumpy and secondly the 2S 3200 is a bit heavier than the 2200 3S so the extra weight helps with some top- heaviness of the large body. I also added the spare tire mount and a metal luggage rack. That makes it heavier up top and out back but I like the realism. A little bit of lead counterweight up front puts the center of gravity towards the back which really helps it with front traction.

I just like to point out my gen 8 weak spot the front trailing arm mount is extremely weak and sheard completely out of the screw holes so now I’m tuning all aluminum front axle and link mounts stock rear for now
Another thing to add to the problems is that the lower suspension arms rip off of the axle. The mounts only have 2 tiny screws holding them on to the plastic axle and they rip/strip out way too easy. Other than that this thing is a beast and a blast to play with.
I run 4S in mine and havnt broke anything that wasnt my fault (with great power comes great responsibility) . I did do a gear upgrade only cuz I had the truck apart anyway to get rid of the bump. Great job as always! I installed the Bowhouse 3D skid on mine & it works fine. Swapped the foams out for C.I. Lil' Novas. Put the steering link on top of the servo horn & clearanced the horn which matched the angle of the panhard bar to help with bump steer. Also added a winch to the stock F bumper, light kit, grill & scale parts from Club 5 Racing. Added Locked Up RC Agile scale rings & hardware to the stock bead locks. No real problems with mine, but I treat it as a scaler not a basher.
Sounds like stuff made up just to make a video rather than actual problems, Only issue this machine has is weak front portal gears and redcats warranty dept is great for replacing them and they are pretty cheap if your truck is no longer under warranty.

Yup. TRX4 is better. Gen 8 has a better looking body and mounting system th-cam.com/video/zfvtpMhPaO0/w-d-xo.html
I keep constantly adjusting my steering servo on my radio my truck just won’t go straight. Any idea
There is a lot of play in the steering linkage system. Tighten everything to remove all the play as it causes the vehicle to steer at random.
Redcat does have a good warrenty department!
perhaps the best at the moment
Yes they do.
What Radio controller would your recommend without breaking the bank. Thanks in advance
Pv3
Thanks for the review! You helped me make up my mind to buy the Umg10.
Most welcome fellow RC'er
What would you recommend as an alternative to this crawler?
Great video thank you 👌🏁
TRX 4 for me.
The Traxxas TRX-4 Sport is better and not too much higher in price. The Element RC Enduro is the new contender. th-cam.com/video/zfvtpMhPaO0/w-d-xo.html
And here is the Element RC th-cam.com/video/3KzCX1LHvE4/w-d-xo.html
The enduro looked promising but it needs LOTS & LOTS of Reinforcement $$ for the chassis its like a wet rag . Good luck
The gen 8 is an amazing crawler for guys just wanting to drop into 4 low and crawl around its a great truck
I found with mine that even after getting a better radio it was still jumpy and I was having to reverse the channel for fwd and rev. Going into reverse it was hoppy as hell. After looking closely I found the motor leads were soldered red to neg and black to pos from the factory. I changed the plugs around and it is smooth as butter now even on the stock esc.
Very good feedback
the steering link is above the knuckle, and can rub the front tires with any roll. I moved the link under the knuckle and no more touching
Yup. Destroyed our brand new Hyrax tires.
I just ordered one, are the parts better now or still week?
On the Gen8 Axe edition, the fixes are included now. On the normal Gen8, I believe it's the same as old.
So you’re saying... just get rid or don’t buy the redcat? Sounds about the same as my gen7
Can't find the metal parts here. Even amainhobbies can't ship to Indonesia
Amazon got the parts you'll need
Club5. Ask them, they are from that region.
Mines pretty old and used. No problems at all so far. All stock except wheels and tires. I run it on 3s always.
Thanks for showing my window trim decal set in that pic. Make them for those clearing their windows. Some folks are having good luck with Citrus Strip Gel from Home Depot for clearing window areas as well.
Which one is yours? The White or the Red. Fascinating work. Which technique did you use to clear it? Or perhaps you painted a clear body from scratch?
@@RCReviewChannel That white one belongs to someone who purchased my window trim decal set. You can see my white Limited Edition Gold Scout on my Facebook group which is RC Crawler Nation. It started as a clear body painted white then decaled. The original blue body I did the wet sand and polish method to clear the windows.
I looked at the Gen 8 at the hobby shop, it looks great. I didn’t know about all those issues.
It's good to know about them going in.
I bought the GEN8 AXE.
Because it has an interior. The transmitter was changed to be made by Futaba. I've come to want another body ⁉️
Well these videos finally hooked me In aswell as some other great vids.
So ya I’m building a totally Modified gen 8. My first real crawler.
That is awesome!
Another great video thanks
It's all about the tuning to bring out the best in it.
Not saying its a bad truck, for me i am just not a fan of it. Maybe someday I will try one.
Correct. Version 1.0 and it has potential. It will get better and dialed with future releases.
Thank you for the information it was perfect
Glad it was helpful!
Merci beaucoup pour votre aide 👍😊😎! J'adore vos vidéos.
unleash the best for 'em all..that's what u guys do best, RC Review 👍👍👍
Yes, the potential can be unleashed!
I have the Gen-9. That model has 8 problems.
Tough crowd. But, I thought it was funny. 🤣
the redcat gen 8 have a lot of issue as rtr, but it's good car. after fix it, it almost can't be kill.
And the tiers have good grip it gets up stuff a lot better then out scx 10 and trx4 so the tier one was fake
The only real problem I've had was the Mounts C Hubs Carrier are plastic and its breaking apart and the foam sucks
Excelente, as always. Thank you.
I just got the v2 of this do a video like this for it
the input transfer case shim mod is a must
to remove the belly bump right?
@@RCReviewChannel no it's to take ot play on the input transfer case shaft and save the plastic gear you use 6 or 7 shims shenrc has a video also exocaged rc but he has the solution on a printed shim shen rc has th3 of the shelf shims vertion
Good video as always thanks for posting
Thanks for the review i was about to add one more to my list , yet it might not be a Gen8 yet, it may well be now a trx-4 kit or an Element RC .. The Gen 8 can wait til Gen 9 i assume :-)
I have a gen 8 I bought as the p.a.c.k. and i run on 3s 5700 mamba x castle combo and it does great.
Granted I dont bash it. But I do give it some throttle sometimes
Got tx for Christmas most metal gears
Thank you, I like your videos, but this one was very hard to see. You have a bunch of trucks that just need to find a home that is NOT on your desk. I’d rather you zoom in so we can actually see the truck when you point things out.
Thanks for tour time. I appreciate learning about a truck I am interested in.
Thank you for the suggestion. This is one of our old ones and it’s a lot better now.
RC Review thank you for the kind reply, I appreciate it much. Again, thanks for the videos. I look to your channel every time I want a new RC, to find the pro’s and con’s first. Thank you.
Why is it so loud?
It uses big, mod 1 gears. But we also think it has something to do with the quality of thie internal gears and bearings and thin housing casings.
I was so interested in it, but here in europe it costs now 430 dollars, while TRx sport is about 440, so i gues i have to go with trx. But this one looks so much better.
Unfortunate importing prices are so varied for different companies.
Red cat always have the same problems, in all cars, Looks pretty but his quality’s are not the best
And THIS is why I’m not buying one now. Getting the Losi Baja Rey
RcForLifee I just got this truck and it was able to keep up with my trx-4 through just about everything
@@lasuzzoeagle1 Damn TRX4? That's impressive.
Gen8 is money cant go wrong with a losi either
I recommend that you buy one. This guy here is a dick, and he thinks every tiny little problem is huge
The ole WD-40 soak! Free upgrade oh yeah!
🤔 I seen a review taken out the box and driven on the beach on top of rocks and it did great 👍🏼 . So with all the upgrades your talking about you might as well buy a traxxas cause it’ll cost 😬 just as much or more.🤯
i think it would still end up being cheaper than a traxxas, considering most people will upgrade the tx/rx and servo on those aswell
The scout is very good. it is not messed up like you RC review
It's a good vehicle and we've created 25 video on it.
These are merely opportunities to make it better and help it compete with the best.
@@RCReviewChannel But it is already better than almost any crawler
The scout V2 has clear windows and flat bottom
Forgot to say what a nightmar the portal gears are.
I do not see the belly bump as a #1 issue. Servo is #1.
Yup. Debatable depending on local terrain.
They are not so much problems but rather opportunities to optimize this vehicle and allow it to compete with the best out there.
Mine came with two replacement portal gears in the box, but so far they are doing good
