It was sloppy, but it got the job done that's for sure. Lifesons guitar phrasing is so lively, its hard to replicate. So yeah, props to him.

Claudio Sanchez is the perfect person to cover Getty Lee's voice in any Rush song.
He's perfect for any of the 70's-era Rush. Geddy's voice changed pretty dramatically and I don't think Claudio would be best candidate for, say, Subdivisions or Marathon.

Nothings also embody's rush like bill kelliher using a semi-hollow Gibson ES-355 like Alex lifeson used to use in the seventies, with rush! Well actually they have recreated his 1976 version, with a signature series ES-355, which is what bill is using. That screams rush, too!

I’ve liked a handful of Rush covers. I like the Ninja Sex Party version of Madrigal better than the original and the Allegaeon cover of Animate is pretty great, as examples, but in general I agree, they should be avoided.
This was awesome though.
It only took two top 5 (if not higher) rock musicians at their respective instruments in Les Claypool and Danny Carey to do it. And some fantastic guitarists + vocalist in the mix as well.
I laughed out loud when I spotted the rotisserie chicken backdrop. Super goddamned insider move there.
Bill is Mastodon's secret weapon, he writes alot of the riffs and does some very good vocal work live. I hope moving forward he's utilized more.

I think I remember reading that Claudio had a problem starting out where he was the only one who didn't want to do Rush covers.... Now he's come full circle.
He talked about it on IG he wasn’t a rush fan growing up he only started listening to them when Coheed was being compared to Rush. Check out the video he posted he goes more in depth with it. Basically Claudio isn’t a big Rush fan though he likes some songs. He mainly did this because his friend/idols were involved.

@@austinhb99 When Geddy started playing through the PA instead of a stack of amps located behind him on the stage, he needed to put something on the stage to balance out Alex's stack of amps on the other side of the stage. For a while, he had 3 laundromat washing machines behind him. On another tour, he had rotisserie chickens cooking that would be eaten by the crew later that night. Someone would come out during the performance to baste them once in a while, lol

@@suzanne425 thank you for sharing this. Claudio is one of my biggest and absolutely my most beloved musical influence. Even if he doesn't go nuts for Rush there's lots of Coheed fans who dig them because of their indirect Rush influence.

Been a Coheed fan since Second Stage and this pleases me so much to see Claudio get more recognition from fans of these other talented musicians who normally wouldn't have given him the time of day. Do yourself a favor and at least check out In Keeping Secrets... and Good Apollo. Good Apollo is still their best work to me and nothing would please me more than to know more people might enjoy some of Coheed's music. Definitely their most progressive album today.

I know that it generally works in the band to have Brent do the solos. But Bill has such a killer feel in this song it makes me feel like we're missing out a bit.
Joel Price as much as I love Brent’s innovative playing, the handful of solos that Bill has done with Mastodon are some of the most unique in all of metal

I'm an American proud of Canada for Rush (and 1/2 of Metric).
Awesome! I love it as a Rush fan for 2 reasons...the first is that this cover really does the song justice. The second is that it takes 5 guys to do what Rush did with 3! ;)
