  • Casual drive around town.
    Some info on this Porsche 718 Cayman 6-speed manual base model:
    This has a mid engine with a 2.0L turbocharged flat-four producing about 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
    Curb weight is between: 2,943 to 3,031 lbs
    0-60 estimated: 4.9 seconds
    What does the number 718 signify?
    More than 50 years ago, Porsche used a race car with the 718 name. And it also had a flat-four engine. Hence, the use of the 718 for the current generation Cayman.

    It is amazing how good a base Porsche with little to no options really is. Thanks for sharing.

    There's something about the base car! I think it's the cleanest looking, most elegant of the bunch. No silly unnecessary design aspects.

    Simple clean design. Definitely the best version to get for a daily driving car that stands out. Im not a fan of yellow cars but the wheel size looks well balanced against the body shape. Also, sounds fantastic. I know its a boxer engine but my goodness, im not going to complain thats its not a six cylinder anymore. Id be more than happy with this and would keep it forever !

      The redline in the car starts at about 7500 RPM. He barely hits 4,000 RPM in the video. This is actually opposite to your comment and the low gear usage. The car hits 75mph on 2nd gear. What was he supposed to do? This is sports car, he can start on 2nd and drive on 2nd all day long in the range of 0-75 mph.

    • @justinher3687
      @justinher3687 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Paul, I seriously hope you're kidding. Kidding with this reply and your other reply about shifting on redline. You have 6 gears for a reason. A good example for driving a manual goes as follows; 1st gear: 0 to 15 mph, 2nd gear: 15 to 30 mph, 3rd gear: 30 to 40 mph, 4th gear: 40 to 50 mph, 5th gear: 50 to 60 mph, and 6th gear: 60 mph or more. You don't want to stay in second gear all day. You're killing the car. And about shifting on redline. Dude, are you trying to blow up an engine? You don't shift on redline. If the car's redline is at 7,500 rpm, he should shift about half of that which would be from 3,000 to 3,500 rpm.

      I've driven two cars with a manual transmission for 5 years now and still going. They may not have been real sports car with a turbo but I know how to drive a manual transmission. You're going to feel really stupid when you find out the proper way to driving a manual by not shifting at redline all the time and not staying in second gear all the time while driving.

    • @MikeDrives
      @MikeDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@valeriodanna77 The clutch is slightly on the heavy side, but you'll get use to it. You'll just get a strong left leg haha! As for the gear shifter, it was smooth and easy to shift into any gear. If you commute into a city, you might have a hard time in bumper to bumper traffic. And hopefully your commute isn't too long. Definitely test drive one and see if it's for you. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Good luck man!

      This car doesn't hit redline (7,500 RPM) till 75mph on 2nd gear. What was he supposed to do? Shift between 1st and 2nd gear all the time? Or maybe needlessly shift to 3rd and 4th and 5th, to get RPM from 4,000 to 3,000 to 2,000 when redline is at 7,500 RPM ? In manual transmission you're supposed to shift when you hit the redline. This just doesn't happen in the sports car on regular street where you can't go above 75 mph legally. He could drive in second gear all day long from 0 to 75mph.
      And yes, it is loud at 4000 RPM. Yeah, would be much, much louder at 7,500 RPM. I wish he did opposite to what you're saying and go to the redline and then shift.
      On the side note: yes, it is loud. Yes, it is stiff. Yes, it is a bit rough. Yes, you shift at 7500 RPM and no, you don't chase gears endlessly, going 50mph on 5th gear. This is not a lexus for old lady, this is a sports car. That's part of the appeal.

      @bengaltiger96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the only annoying sound is the road…all the cracks. But I like the 718’s 356-like sound. The only reason you didn’t hear that before from Porsche was because the old boxers couldn’t rev that high. But for those who pine for the flat-6, it’s nice, but keep bitching - hopefully that makes these cheaper when the whole COVID-induced shortage blows over.

    I couldn't even watch the video past 1 minute and 30 seconds. You're riding the clutch. You're suppose to turn the car on, shift to neutral from 1st gear, and release the clutch. Then, when you do drive, press in the clutch, shift from neutral to first, and slowly ease out the pedals. Learn to drive a stick shift sir.
