Porsche 718 Cayman S Manual - One Take

- The Porsche 718 Cayman and Cayman S, like the 718 Boxsters before them, are now powered exclusively by turbocharged four-cylinder engines. And while yes, these engines sound like Subaru engines at low RPM, they make a lot more power and torque than the outgoing engines, and offer endless possibility for cheap tuning. Porsche NA representative Frank Weismann joins Matt on this drive in Austin to talk about the new Cayman S.
Porsche provided airfare, accommodations, and food for this review.
Ugh. It's too late now, but I just saw the "click analyze to begin now." Sorry kids, That's what I get for editing in a rush.
i was like..should I click it? lmao
damn....anger issues?
Jack Skellington Porsche is an actual German name and not an English translation. Porsch-uh is the proper pronunciation.
I didn't click it. Nope. Not at all...
Ferdinand Porsche, the guy who started Porsche and who it was named after, pronounced his family name Porsha. ..
Finally, a rational review of the 718 S turbo. Matt is a true car guy who doesn't suffer from cylinder envy. This car bests its predecessor in every way, which any true car enthusiast should appreciate, but the 'purists' will still crap on it because they need those extra cylinders to compensate for...something.
It appears to be a 718 S. But regarding your comment, overall I agree, but remember the sound is quieter in a 4 cylinder. But that isn’t Porsches focus anyway
@@FreeCoding-ko8vb No product is perfect, there are always trade-offs. Even the 911 Turbo S is very quiet by supercar standards, but people still love them...because they drive like nothing else on the road.
The only reason they put a 4-Cylinder engine in it was for environmental regulations. Porsche didn't even want to make that engine but their hand was forced. The same car with a flat-6 would have still beaten its predecessor in every way but would have sounded better and had a more responsive engine. There's a reason why they put the 4.0 in the GTS.
what's its like driving with Mr Anderson.
You mean Mr Smith?
shit, yeah.
Haha. Good comment though 👍
Matt could actually be the second person to meet an agent and survive!
I was expecting his secret speech:
"I'm going to be honest with you. I hate this car... this Cayman... this 718... whatever you want to call it. I can't stand it any longer. It's the sound!"
Agent Smith works for Porsche.
Matt thanks for all your reviews of Caymans. Just got a 2008 Cayman S and I love that thing. It's not pinned-to-your-seat acceleration but for 30grand I got a car that is fast and that corners at speed like an absolute champ. I think its one of the great sports cars.
I wonder how many people who are complaining about how Porsche ruined it with the 4 cylinder have actually driven the car. I've driven one and I honestly like how it sounds, and the performance is still way more than you would ever need, even in the base 718 cayman like I drove (I've never driven the S). Exhaust note quality is purely subjective, and from experience I can tell you it sounds better in person than it does on video.
I would agree, I haven't driven it, but even as a 981 S owner I'm impressed by the 718. For those saying it cost more, well a base 718 has equal performance to the 981 S for less money. So a 718 S has performance beyond even the Cayman GT4. I'm sure if you add some headers it would change the sound a lot, I did on my 981 and it was much improved in sound and performance.
Agree about the sound. I drove the 718 after hearing the negative reviews, and was surprised at how good it sounded. Now I'm getting a 718 S.
You say the performance is still more than you’d even need as if it’s less performance than the outgoing model. The performance is now better than ever.
is it a prerequisite to have driven a four-cylinder engine to make a complaint? or may one offer a complaint on sound alone? considering how amateur and professional reviewers alike go on and on and on about engine note, one may think sound alone would be fair game WRT engine criticism.
@@gilltim5711 Hi mate wondering if you bought the cayman s and if you still have it ?
I love how every car you pass by in this video is another Porsche lol
Kayone73 or a camper or a dodge ram or other non Porsche cars
Colby Perry c'mon you know what I'm talking about. don't be that pedantic 'internet guy'
It must be because it was a Porsche test day or something. I ride this road weekly, and there's usually far more diversity. Plenty of Porsches normally, but not nearly that much percentage.
Yea they probably had a big testing day, and had people come drive their new rides.
INumba1Stunna Yeah, thats what it seems like
I clicked analyze but the video paused. lmao
Congratulations, you're an idiot.
Take that stick out of your ass.
yeah it keeps pausing the video every time, anyone know how to fix this??
Probably did too much analyzing?
now that it's paused, it's time to analyze your life
I own a 981 Boxster S and recently tried the 718 Boxster S on the track. Differences? The torque from the turbo 4 is great. But that's about it. The rest, I would take my 981 S all day. The sound of the 3.4L flat 6 engine at high RPM and the instantaneous throttle response make up for the joy of driving. Yes, the turbo 4 is faster, no doubt. But if you're looking for a car that has personality and makes you smile when you drive it, in my opinion go with the old naturally aspirated flat 6. After all, it's a fun car.
KVNH I got both lol
Its super cool to hear one of the engineers talking about the car. I know you'd mentioned worrying what the audience would think about that but I'm all for it in this case. Thanks for the great content.
Matt: feel free to contribute
*proceeds to cut him off with a drive by edit
I can't drive mine enough. Amazing ride. Pure joy to drive.
Best car i ever driven big smile ever day.GODis so good.
Matt absolutely nailed it and showed his insight when it comes to cars when he said Porsche has a platform that builds from the "ground up"...not like you're making a Mustang into a Shelby...
I agree with the commentary around the 12 minute mark about the power band. I have a 13 base Boxster and my only complaint is that the power doesn't really come on unless you're in the upper revs. I really want a LOT more torque down low in the range, so I think the 718 may be my next car, even if it doesn't sound as good.
87 k for four cylinders? No way in hell.
The flat six was one of the main reasons why the Boxter/Cayman were successful.
A lot of previous owners won't get the new model after this engine update.
An Matt likes the car more than the Porsche rep lmao
West Senkovec customers love low end torque. These are now really fast.
I think you need to look at who buys these cars new. Its not always car guys like you and I, its people that work in the city and have stupid hair cuts and spend way too much time in the mirror.
Small engines also have huge advantages. For example, in my country at least, the higher displacement your car has, the more you're gonna pay in taxes... That's why we welcome small engines!
if it's lighter a 4 cylinder in a cayman works for me....
If you ask me this car is the perfect amount of performance for the road. You can push it and have fun, where a lot of the super car stuff when you push it you go to jail. Its light, agile, and fun rather than extreme. More car makers need to pay attention.
I love the turning radius demo, it's always a product of how much stuff is crammed between the front wheels. In this case, an empty trunk that doesn't impede steering angle.
What an amazing car, a great value and still very exotic in looks and performance.
The interior color is drop dead gorgeous!
Yes it is! I have the same car ( graphite blue ) but sadly black interior
Tells him to contribute in the video then cuts him off @ 2:34 lol
Matt,
Well done! Makes me really want it for a daily driver!
I know you did this review 6yrs ago, I'd love to find a decent series on 5yrs/50k miles later kind of review on Cayman S... and other cars like 911 S,...
Cheers, Eric
love waking up to any porsche video
I love how the recent manual gearbox Porsche cars have the center console sloping up towards the dash, which puts the shifter closer to the steering wheel. I hate how my car's shifter is almost down near my knee.
I don't know why I find it so cool to see these One Takes on the roads I drive on all the time. I'd imagine Lime Creek is a great road for a car like this!
we don't have these roads I. Houston:(
I think with the Flat-4 the Boxster/Cayman has finally became its own car, i love it and i will have 1, curently i have to say this is my favorite new car....
i absoloutely love the noise it makes
...said no one ever
Well I just said it so your comment is invalid
Yea I'm actually a huge fan. I would be DDing it anyway, why do I need blasting sound just driving to work in the morning.
You wouldn't if you're used to a flat 6
This is like a glitch in GTA. You got that rare car you were looking for and now it is everywhere!
"Feel free to contribute Frank. You don't need to stay silent". Lol
"Feel free to contribute"...
Camera cut 😂😂haha
I own a 2017 Cayman S and find it to be a wonderfully precise car to drive. Probably the finest automobile I've ever driven, owned many different brands, from Corvettes, BMW's and Mercedes, this a brilliant machine well worth the asking price.
Hi mate glad you're enjoying your porsche. Is it manual or Pdk ? What spec ? Cheers mate
@@sashnaumoski7479 manual
S, highly optioned and I’ve added many OEM interior and exterior modifications!
Hi Jeff thank you for your reply. Is the gearing long on the cayman S as in the gts 4.0 litre ?
@@sashnaumoski7479 I simply enjoy driving the car and not winding out the gears, all that does is end up getting you in trouble and I'm too old for that! It's just a great driving car period...
Yeah I made a mistake test driving A 718 cayman S recently. Holy Cow is it fast! I daily a 2013 base 911 and that cayman is way faster. So now the dilemma....keep my car which I still love or drop another 20-30K difference all said and done for the cayman.
You CANNOT BEAT a flat 6 Porsche manual in every aspect....feel, sound, force !!!!!
"Feel free to contribute to this frank, you don't have to be silent".
I have an allocation for one coming next year but I agree with 99% of the people here when they say it sounds like a 'Rex and coming from a V8 M3 that's gonna be a tough pill to swallow, however after driving a 718 Boxter S and a 981 Cayman S back to back the difference in performance is crazy! I am considering buying a slightly use 991.2 Carrera or a 991.1 Carrera S instead since my build is close to 80k (Options are expensive in Porsches!) I was never ever a Porsche fan I always believed they were overpriced old peoples cars but you just have to drive one to realize how damn good these cars are.
"Feel free to contribute to this Frank. You don't have to be silent" ROASTED.
You got carried away and forgot to shake the man's hand! 😜
0ttoman haha good point I'd been hanging out with him for like 2 days though haha
+TheSmokingTire thats cool then. Best part "no comment from Frank" frankly speaking. Gfaw
I confirm the residents in Texas are nice. I drove my first manual car back from Texas. Not only was every interaction with a gas station clerk, restaurant staff easy going, when I inevitable stalled my car a few times and stop lights people did not honk, they just waited for me patiently to get going. One day I think I wll make the drive back and go for a little nostalgic adventure.
Wait, you CAN'T turn off the auto-blip in Sport? Software revision NEEDED please.
Loved that very first exhaust crackle around the corner when the camera changed
Wide tire on narrow rim means less contact patch and less sidewall integrity. Widening the rim maximizes contact patch and angle up to a point.
Nice review. Could be an fun commuter. Thanks Matt
Thanks for the honest review, looking to switch from my M4 to a 718 cayman I think PASM and Sports Chrono are the must have options, even then it's hard keeping the sticker of this car under 80k
My 718 CS is pretty loaded w S-PASM but no Sport Chrono and at almost $86k MSRP, you’re right it gets pricey
Awesome review, I'm getting a 718 Boxster next year.... can't wait=)
I really do like the rear of the Cayman over the 911. Love the subtle spoiler, the tail lights. It's just a nice booty. 1:30 This is honestly my first time hearing a Porsche sound like this lol. I only remember hearing the Flat 6 sound.
So many crackles and pops in the exhaust on modern cars.
I'm not complaining !
That sti sounds amazing 😉
😂😂 u monster
definitely a well engineered design. plus so practical that porches are so much fun to drive even when commuting.
always cool to see you back in Austin in my back yard on limecreek. Were you down just for this or was this back from the le mans race weekend?
Barracuda512 this was from 2 weeks ago
The GT4 doesn't need a turbo Matt, it needs different gearing! Plus it would be sacrilegious to mess with it's sound and throttle response. Great review of a controversial car, and thanks for the dyno chart, really shows what a premium vehicle the new car is.
Sharkwekrs just re-geared their GT4. I can't wait to try it.
See if you can do it on the street and the track so enthusiasts of both sides can see if it's worth the upgrade!
YOU click analyze to begin. ;)
I was waiting the whole video for that guy to say "we've been expecting you Mr Anderson"
Nice car! That red interior should be stripped, burned in the street, and never spoken of again.
Cereal Killa You think so? I actually like it. Would still prefer tan, though.
A grey car should only be available with a red interior (in my opinion) :)
That's cool asf! I like ;)
Cereal Killa blocked and reported
100% agree mate, in the business it's known as dog dick red... some red leather can be fine but honestly, the full monty like that is not cool :P
Dam, quit talking shit about the engine sound! I freaking love it!
Yeah, but does it have on center steering and a stock shifter?
And most importantly, can you fit in it and it does it drone?
lastly does it have pilot super sports :')
the sound of boxers is one of the best parts! that slight dumptruck sound is what i crave lol
Nice to see Porsche using engine technology Subaru STI has been using for 10 years.
Waiting for a twin scroll STI that would be tits.
Not really. All they have in common now is cylinder count and a turbo. Internals and the concept are completely different. Especially where and how the power is delivered.
I have the chance to buy a 2017 base model at a great price and I might pull the trigger on it - great review!
My 1990 mustang 5.0 had the same interior! #AheadOfItsTime
Porsche is my dream car, a small porsche, manual, the 718 looks incredible, in my eyes the best looking curent Porsche.
A car like this deserves more than a four cylinder engine. I really like the old generation much more! If this is where we are heading, I don't want to be a part of it.
"when you're going down the road at your own personal risk pace", says the Porsche guy, after Matt gives it the beans. Hahahahahaha. Slowest one take ever???? Matt bossed the Porsche guy with facts and figures, the man does his homework as ever. Great video with a very German Porsche rep.
87 k for a four cylinder engine ,GTFOH
I look forward to watching this when I get home from work. Love the videos Matt, great content that's superbly entertaining AND informative. Cheers dude.
Ceramics for the track is such bullshit. Have you ever been to a track? I´ve never seen a Porsche with ceramics at the track. Many owners who bought ceramics switch to steel before going on track and leave the ceramics in their garages for resale value. If you´re lucky ceramics might hold up twice as long as steel brakes. But one ceramic disc is around 5000 Dollars while a steel disc is about 500 dollars. If you`re not searching for the last millisecond you really don`t need them. Just run a cool down lap with the steels and they will not fade.
Yes, I have been to lots of tracks. Yes, I see lots of Porsches with ceramic brakes at the track.
haha thanks for the reply Matt, at least in Germany most guys switch to steel. Running ceramics on the track is just burning money. Even GT3 cars are running steel brakes.
It is very hot here in California. At track days, which are out in the desert, we see ambient temperatures over 100 degrees (farenheit) regularly, and track temperatures as high as 140 degrees farenheit. The Ceramics hold up longer during high-temp conditions like this.
Yes i believe that. Still a very expensive option. One time in the gravel and if you`re unlucky they are ruined. Braking into the ABS kills them too. I know a guy with a F430 Scuderia who ran through 4 sets of front ceramics on several trackdays on the Hockenheimring. The bill was around 50.000 Euros.
Just curious, but what does the ABS do to ceramics?
Thanks for the vid, especially comparing to other cars in a similar price range.
They killed it with this subie motor I don't care about having to rev a sports car out.... That's what I want to do. And the sound of a car is so important. 😓
It comes from the Government and probably the EU, all car manufacturers have to downsize. The "best" of all, they planning to ban ALL petrol cars after 2030.
actually they are stopping the down sizing now because it doesn't work in the real world and as for the other just buy older car's
no, a subaru sounds like an old porsche
porsche made their name designing flat-4 engines - first in the bug and then in the 356.
Bro I get it but that the way things are going, soon people are going to be saying I wish I had a 4 cyl turbo because everything is going to be electric. Just enjoy it while you can!
i think it actually sounds pretty good. Not as musical as the previous 6 cylinder, but still good.
you realize what you could build for $87k.. damn.
Having built several project cars, my logic goes the other way. "I just put $50k into a Fox Body, I could have just bought a fucking Porsche and had a much better car."
The Porsche would be the better "car" I would honestly rather have your amazing foxbody than that 718, you built it right. to me that's more interesting, making a great car because you have a vision for it, out of something that really wasnt ever suppose to be THAT good. any dentist can go out and buy a pretty Porsche that handles likes its on rails. I really like when the driver/owner is involved with the cars evolution.
Tell you what, you go buy a new 718 Cayman S and I"ll trade you straight up for the Mustang :)
hahaha if I had 87k I would do it, dont get me wrong I have nothing against the 718, I love that it sounds like a subie, its just not my cup of tea, not like i could ever afford one anyway lol. This is why I build cheap Subaru's.
SforSytosis just because something sounds like a subie doesn't mean it is, just because a tesla sounds like a fucking golf cart doesn't mean I'm going to be able to buy one for the price of an ez-go
Loving this car hope I could own one in the near future. I just don't get why ppl hating on the 4 cylinder this car is inspired by the 718 racecar which is a Boxer-4.
I don't know.. for 87k. That's Z06 money. Hard for me to pick the Cayman
To be honest, for that money I'd take the Z06
Adam Cooper that's why you just get what you need not fully loaded, there's really no reason to buy a new Porsche they deprecate a lot
Adam Cooper to be fair, they don't really overlap that much. The base of the Cayman S is $69k, compared to $80k for the Z06. A fully loaded Cayman S is $87k, compared to almost $115k for a loaded Z06. Obviously the Z06's performance is undeniable, but I think real world pricing the C7 Grand Sport will be competing more directly with Cayman S in terms of pricing.
you can get a clean cayman with enough equipment for 75K, 0-60 in under 4 with the pdk.., porsche badge, mid engine... the grand sport and zo6 are faster but they aren't porsche's. they worse build quality and frankly on public roads its all the speed you need...all great cars, good times for car lovers... exotic level performance for attainable prices...
personally im waiting for the TT RS. no price yet but i figure it will be cheaper then the cayman.
I was never thinking of Porsche until I saw these smoking tire one takes.....the boxster s with PDK is more to my liking but the costs are so close to and often above the z06 I can't bring myself to do it. I admire the new 718s especially with PDK pasm, sport chrono and sport exhaust but man those options cost is brutal. I'm sure it's worth the coin but the calling of z06 s stronger for me. Thanks for the great review on the Porsche
God I hate those manufactured crackles to try and make it sound as interesting as the 6 cylinder
great video
I am not into the sound of this engine. I for sure prefer the flat 6 tone.
the conversation between you and the PR guy (i feel like a dick for not remembering his name) is actually really informative and entertaining. once again great job, very good review.
PDK don't be a hero
haha jk
Hey Matt - nice video review. .. As a lifetime Porsche owner - Fan - Ambassador I'll accept PAG's 4cyl direction.. .. But I ain't gone-a-like-it !! .. My '98 993 C2S coupe with a simple DIY "LMPP" muffler mod sings the traditional 911 chain-saw-esq music all day long. .. Its the bomb. .. An exhaust signature ya never grow tired of ..."Hey ... did ya hear that? A WRX or Cayman?" ... Man I don't like the sound of that.... that is until I'm at altitude in the Colorado mountains and the forced induction 2.5 4cyl earns a big commercial... I reserve the right to bitch, bitch, bitch regarding the 4cyl exhaust note. LoL ... Great drive, informative Cayman S video.
I'm Rallly starting to fall in love with the Caymen.
Another option is to wait 3 or 4 years and get it from CarMax at about half the price or less. :-)
James Harris I’m getting it but Porsche’s dont to half in 3-4 years lol maybe 6
James Harris You a virgin huh 😂😂
That interior though! And what an awesome road that is.
I was going to buy this car but in the end spent 20k more to buy a new 2015 Cayman GTS instead for the flat 6 howl(it got even more expensive than before cos low supply and high demand in my area..T.T poor wallet). But damn. This 718 is a good car INCLUDING its engine. Maybe I shoulda saved that 20k..but then I'd want to spend it on a FRS but then it's another 4 cyl car so no point..I guess this way I can justify buying an FRS or BRZ in a few years
If you have the Porsche why would you want a BRZ?
+Jeff K because they're fucking amazing cars
brz isnt amazing. they are slow as can be. but where they really shine is in the aftermarket. aero stuff, rocket bunny and a supercharger then you have a fun car.
+OutlawUniverse you sound like a 12 year old. Ive owned a 86 (brz) for three years and never have had the urge to mod anything on the car. I will never get rid of it either. There is no point in having a "fast" car when you cant use it on the street, And 99% of the market wont take they're car to the track. And with 200hp i get 35 mpg average and about 1000 smiles per gallon...
How does he sound like a 12 year old? He is right, they are slow, painfully so. I mean a mom in a minivan is faster and that isn't an exaggeration. I'm not sure what your definition of "fast car" is, but even a Nissan Maxima has 300hp.. Do you consider that fast? A Camry, Maxima, Accord, a Ford Escape... all faster. Hell, the focus ST is cheaper and is still quicker.
I understand that it handles decently, but you said it yourself, 99% of the market won't take the car to the track. So basically the one redeeming attribute of good handling is hardly utilized by the same people who proclaim how well it handles.
No one is saying they are terrible cars, but you are kidding yourself if you think anything over 160whp "has no point". In a day to day drive I would rather drive a higher powered car at 70% of its capability than have to drive an underpowered car at 100% of its capability. If a car makes more power that means it doesn't have to work as hard to accelerate or maintain speed. It doesn't mean you have to drive it around full throttle all of the time.
That steering wheel is absolutely beautiful.
Porsche makes the Cayman worse with each new iteration. The 987.1 is the best looking, with the classic bug eye headlights (albeit with tear ducts) and two of the sexiest rear fenders ever fitted to any car. It's also smaller, almost as small as an original 911, making it more nimble and fun. The 987 also had Porsche's absolutely perfect hydraulic steering. Electronic steering may have come a long way, but it will never capture the magic of the old system. Magic can't be digitized perfectly.
On Matt and Bill the nice guy's indirect advice, I bought a manual 2007 Cayman S with a 3.8L swap (IPD plenum, Borla exhaust). I haven't run it on a dyno yet, but it sings and pushes beautifully and should produce around 375hp. It's amazing in every way and much prettier and better sounding than this 718, at a third the cost. I drive it daily and it makes commuting something that I actually look forward to everyday, twice a day. I love it.
Purists have it right on this one. The 718 may have great torque and be able to beat the old Cayman around the Nurburgring, but that doesn't negate the fact that it has a Subaru-sounding engine and it looks more like a bland Ferrari kitcar than a Porsche should look. Compare a picture of a first gen Cayman to the new 911 Turbo. The similarities are amazing. Porsche made the new Cayman uglier because they couldn't make it prettier without stealing 911 sales. The Cayman handles better than a 911 already. Prettier too? Can't let that happen!
For every generation Porsche, some purist say the former generation was better. Yet they continue to go faster, handle better, win more competitions, sell better and use less fuel.
I'm guessing consumerproducts would rather have a 996 than a 993.
John Hall - Obviously I want a 930, because watercooling ruined the essence of Porsches and every porsche thereafter is a travesty to the marque.
Nicely done Matt. I have the Cayman S with PDK. Love it. Been clocked at 3.5 seconds to 60 in Launch mode.

I can't be the only person noticing all the random boxsters and Caymans in this video
go get yourself 2015 Cayman GTS (or an S) and you have a 99% of this car with great sound. 718 is like an mid-life cycle update, i don't think of it as an generation upgrade.
Petar Menger that's what I did. Bought a brand new GTS which got appreciated by 10k in my area due to low supply. So I spent a total of 20k more than when I first ordered this 718 Cayman S. Can't lie tho. The 718 is better on the road tbh... Much more power, u really feel the torque and the car just launching. The GTS compared to it felt like..slow but steadily fast. I still don't regret it. Either car are nice. The flat 6 howl just entertains me so much
Nor does porsche, its a mid-cycle refresh
GTS owner here as well, love it
i just tried the 718 again today. damn that torque curve feels so damn nice. definitely shines more than the GTS there, but GTS's spirit, makes me giggle
I drove a brand new Cayman GTS and a Boxster 718 S back to back and after pacing around the dealership and calling my wife multiple times for input... I got the 718S. the 718S just felt so much better when getting after it. no doubt the sound in the GTS was better, it's just beautiful. a year ago I would've been 100% happy with the GTS but since I daily drive AND track my cars, I couldn't pass up the updated tech and design of the 718S on top of the huge torque difference. around town it's much more satisfying to me so I don't have to be revving the engine out to get power and the sound. GTS is still a sweet car. I just couldn't justify buying a car for the same price that looks instantly dated and has less power and tech goodies. ugh. ultimately I know I would've still loved it and maybe i'll pick up a used one in a couple of years as a track car.
Nice video, as always: an expert opinion in a friendly way. Cheers :)
1 important mistake from the guy: a car does NOT go faster uphill because it has more torque.
2 equal chassis with equal aceleration on flat terrain, will have the exact same aceleration uphill even when one has more torque.
Jonny Oliveira it does if both cars start from low RPM and it also has more horsepower (the result of more torque x same revs)
TheSmokingTire You are right, but in the context he said it (going flat uphill straights of the ring) the car setting a lap record is in the powerband at higher revs.
This cayman is faster on the uphill than the previous version for the same reason it's faster on the flat, it has more power.
Coming out of the corners, yes, I'm with you that lower end power does help you have faster exit speeds.
Awesome Porsche!
it seem like there are so many types of Porsche..#Confusing
Typical american...
Maybe u or another commenter could post..the entry level thru top of the line in order..i kno the gt3 is the best but other thn tht I'm lost
Your spelling gave me cancer.
who me? lol
its what fascinates me basically one car with the same design for more than 50 years and over 100 variations xD
Look at the interviews with Andreas, the 7:40 for the GT4 was computer projected. The Ring was closed at the time of the release. He even states that he think they could get a bit under 7:40. I wouldn't be surprised that they didn't release a faster time because they didn't want to overshadow the carrera S laptime of 7:37.
Guess we will just have to see how the 718 does when motortrend tests it at Laguna.
the pops are soo irritating,,,pops are not the solution to turbo 4 cylinder.
I agree.. on the Focus RS those pops are also annoying :(
pops are just gimmicks,a rev happy engine is more than enough.
everybody is doing pops. its annoying
Dom Toretto yeah dad got the herps and clamydia at the nursing home. I told those dirty bitchs to stop doing pops.
LOL @ Premiere Pro "click analyze to begin". I think Frank was a great value-add.
no, no, NO! Porsche, WTF are you doing? Over $90k (with ceramic brakes) for a four pot sports car, you gotta be kidding right? I don't care how good the new boxer engine is, the Cayman & Boxter 718 will no longer deliver the ubiquitous flat six howl to those who can't stretch to a 911, and I reckon that is going to hit sales.
You guys are AWSOME keep it going
I love all cars and Porsche it at the top,but at this price I think a brz /86 could do damage on the same road for what 1/2 the price add a turbo and could very well be a better car.
Matt how about a back to back type of test and then dollar for dollar comparison ie: you can go 1/10 quicker at willow for xxx amount more, maybe a used caymen stock vs a moded brz or stock to stock. I thin it would be a good show most of us don't drive to loose our licence on the street and save it for the track these 2 cars are both mid mount flat 4 similar teck. Would a good set of struts put the brz in the same ball park lap times ?
P Kuudsk no, the BRZ has great steering feel and dynamics, but it is fundamentally a slow car. It would take more to turn a BRZ into a Cayman than if you just bought a Cayman, especially if you expected the reliability of a factory car.
P Kuudsk are you high?
Then a brz ls7 swap is in in order. Reliability in a cheep suit .
You rather a Subaru name over Porsche? and you want to throw a V8 in a BRZ and expect it to corner properly?get off the internet please
Yes you are entitled to a asshole everyone gets one.
You recognize the serious car company when you go to their website and you see the catalog of replacement parts for every car they ever made since 50's. That's Porsche. Every car is a masterpiece far far ahead of its time. I had 14 of them and probably own few of them until I die. The difference between a Porsche and other car companies is Porsche marketing people listen to the engineering and development and not the other way around.
Need better audio...please invest in a lav set-up.
Roberto Alire I have a lav setup i use for very loud or open air cars. But in closed cockpit cars the lav takes away from the sound of the engine too much for my liking
Play around with the lavs attached to the visors with a tiny clamp like for a stack of papers, that should keep a little bit of that engine sound intact if you aren't rolling off too much low end. Or mix that with a little bit from your Zoom to add back in that engine sound, but keep the voices intact.
Every car driving on that road was a Porsche. Sweet.
Biggest mistake in Porsche history to replace that perfect flatsix engine to 4 cylinder engine which makes it sound like a Honda Civic with straight pipes!
