  • Casual night drive around town.
    Some info on this Porsche 718 Cayman base model:
    This has a mid engine with a 2.0L turbocharged flat-four producing about 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
    Curb weight is between: 2,943 to 3,031 lbs
    0-60 estimated: 4.9 seconds
    What does the number 718 signify?
    More than 50 years ago, Porsche used a race car with the 718 name. And it also had a flat-four engine. Hence, the use of the 718 for the current generation Cayman.

    No need to deactivate the parking brake - goes off automatically when you start driving👍🏻

    is this car wirh the base xenon headlights?

  • @anabanana5139
    @anabanana5139 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi there. Can you comment on headlights, are they satisfactory on backroads, low beam especially. Also can you comment suspension (standard no pasm as I can see). How often you use menu with stalk and how easy is since you have standard steering wheel w/o buttons. Lastly the seats, how good they are for longer trips. Beautifull car, congrats but it's unnecessary to tell.

      Hi there. Just a heads up, I rented this Porsche Cayman out for only a day. I will answer your questions to the best of my abilities.
      1) Headlights: Yes, the low beams are quite bright. I haven't driven this at night on the backroads (I'm assuming you're talking about roads in the mountains), so I can't give you a clear answer.
      2) Menu: The only two menus I used during my rental was distance and temperature gauge. Navigating through the menus was easy by pulling the stalk towards you, and you'll be in the next menu page (For example distance trip). There's one menu that gives you the coolant, oil, and one other component temperatures. I find that menu the most useful in my experience, and what I would use mostly if I owned a 718 Cayman.
      3) I found no issues with the seats, but the thing is the longest trip I had in those seats were about 20 minutes. They were actually just a slightly snug. And I'm 5'8" @ 160 pounds. So if you're of bigger frame and weight definitely try it out.
      Overall, I think you'll be happy with this 718 Cayman, weather you daily or track this car you'll be satisfied. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

      Thank you, my thaughts are toward PASM and I would like to save on other stuff.
      Standard headlights are xenon but only 25w and some (on forums) are saying that are not adequate if you are on backroad (I consider this out of town where the only light is your headlight and you normally drive with low beams).
      Sport plus seats are also option to consider but would like to know some other opinion for standard seats (they call those sport seats).
      Steering wheel buttons add to the price and since I am not planning to use phone It comes down to menu only so I would like the opinon on this as well.
      And lastly and more expensive option that I would like to purchase is PASM which is the reason to weight agains other options that I need to drop all together if I go with adjustable suspension.
      My configuration includes SCrono, 6MT, 19" wheels, GT sport wheel and now I doubt should I go with PASM and drop all other (pdls lights, sport plus seats and steering buttons) or go with standard suspension and all those goodies.

    • @MikeDrives
      @MikeDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, this is a tough choice Ana. Ultimately, these options are up to the individual. I think you should list all the options (Sport Seats, PASM, Steering buttons, PDLS lights). And rate each one from 1 to 5. 1 being not important, and 5 being high priority.
      If I were in your situation, I would put PASM high on the list because I care more about driving dynamics more than anything else. Also, it seems like you got some back roads you're looking to enjoy judging by your first comment. And PASM's suspension enhancements will up your driving experience on those back roads.
      After PASM, I would get the Sport chrono. Pretty much PASM and SC are two that I would prioritize. But this is just my opinion. For me, I would like to keep everything as OEM as possible. I use to dabble with the whole modification thing, and just became a headache after awhile. It's just best to get all the goodies from the Factory. Test drive the car as much as possible and fiddle with all the components. I wish you the best of luck!!!

    • @anabanana5139
      @anabanana5139 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot. You helped me with the idea of giving the important options a weight and than summarize and make decision. I have already give low priority to my Carribian vacation in favor of some options.
      I totally agree with SC and this is in all of my configs, but I wasn't sure about PASM. After reading so many forums I am more confused than clear. Some state this enhances the drive while some other state the increase is visible only on track.
      Also, very helpfull is your experience regarding later upgrade. I was also thinking to buy aftermarket exhaust tip and to upgrade standard lights to better by replacing the balast and bulb but i am not sure this would be smart move. Thanks again.

      @@anabanana5139 You're welcome! I wish I could provide you with more details on PASM. But my knowledge and experience with PASM is very limited. However, I do believe you get a lower ride height with PASM which will make the car look better. Just buy and do whatever you want with your car. At the end of the day, you're going to be driving it, so don't really take to heart what other people say. If you like it, that's all that matters. Good luck!!!

    While driving, was the wastegate noise audible?

    • @MikeDrives
      @MikeDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but it's very faint. I'm sure with a few modifications you could get that wastegate to be more noticeable.

      Canto Mike real quick though, could you tell me your impressions on the acceleration of this compared to the 981 cayman you drove? I’m shopping for a 981 and I haven’t gone to test drive either yet so I don’t know how they feel.

    • @MikeDrives
      @MikeDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh shoot, I totally forgot about that part with the windows down!

    • @MikeDrives
      @MikeDrives  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 981 has linear power delivery, and requires you to really rev it out to extract it's power. But with the 718, the power comes easy and torque comes on early. Personally, I'll take the 981 even though the 718 will be the faster car. The most enjoyable aspect of the 981 was the flat-6 engine sound. It's a unique sound that not a lot of cars have. Ultimately, it will depend on what you value most. I think after you test drive the 981 and 718, you'll know which one to get. You can't go wrong with either one. I wish you the best of luck man!
