Today, I will bring you a review of the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman. Yes, this is the Cayman, not the Cayman S or GTS that are flooding on the internet. The 718 series came out in 2016, but I think it is still the perfect sports car. Really, no matter the aspect of appearance, performance, fun factor, or practicality, the 718 Cayman has everything you should think of as an excellent sports car. Although it may not have the best performance, the best comfort, and the best control in sports cars, its overall quality is quite high. In my definition, this is what defines "perfect". Although the four-cylinder engine of the new 718 Cayman seems controversial to many people, I think you should watch this video and feel for yourself.

The base 718 is all that 95% of owners ever need. For those that track their cars, I can understand the S or GTS. I enjoy my base 718 more than quite a few of the 450-650 hp Vettes and Camaro's I've owned/driven. Truly a car for the discerning driver. (2018 Base Cayman owner.)
I am having a hard time deciding to go for the C63s or the Cayman. You insight would be greatly appreciated.
@@donaldchia2178 I'm happy with my base Cayman. I would have liked an S but all I could find were $90K and up models FULL of high cost options I did not want. And I wanted a manual trans too. Most were PDK's. With some miles on my car I'm enjoyiing the wonderful Porsche 6 speed. Very nice, precise feel to it. We are all different. I'd suggest actually driving a few different configurations. I also did nicely on a Dealer Demo, low mileage car. the Dealer took the first year depreciation not me.
The gearing in the new GTS 4.0 is just dumb, redline 3rd gear is 105mph/170kph its just impossible to use the car because of how tall the gears are and for me wanting a manual just takes the fun out of it. I find the base to be more than enough and can be tuned to S power very easily.
I think I’m going to do a base Caymen Manuel. The s is over my price point .
I am looking to buy the base 2018 Cayman. Wanted to check with you on how the car has held up after 5 years? Any major issues? I know it’s a performance car so tech is not really too relevant, but lack of Apple CarPlay for maps also is in the back of my mind. Have you gotten around this somehow?

I had a nice dealer when I purchased my718, went to him every week to drive one while I waited the 4 months for my delivery.

The S and T models don’t really do much for me. I like them, I would love one, but it’s just one of those things that wouldn’t change my life because I wouldn’t really be able to use it. I don’t take cars to the track. I just want a quality sports car that won’t depreciate too much. Plus if I take care of it, it will last. That’s all that matters to me.

Thank you for your review . I love my 718 base fully loaded . What’s not to like ? It’s a Porsche , it’s Handel’s great, looks classy . IMHO the sound good . I don’t care if it has 4 cylinders I had a 911 997s gen 2 3.8 dfi . And I don’t miss it this drives better and looks better .. it’s PORSCHE YOU CANT GO WRONG .

Add the expanded range fuel tank! It’s a $150 option that means fewer trips to the gas station. My base 718 is a blast. Is it a 911?...No. It’s also not a Yugo! And screw the sound. Does the flat six sound make you feel as if you have something bigger between your legs? Good luck with that.
Indeed! Honestly wish they make the expanded range fuel tank a standard feature.
Let’s talk about 3rd gear on a twisty two-laner in sport mode...gurgle, gurgle, pop, pop. Most fun for the money.

300hp and 280 torque and only weighs in at 3009 pounds seems like a great time now if Porsche started producing the Cayman with a all wheel drive option now that would be great especially living in Canada

The vents on the side are to feed the radiators not for more power to keep the engine alive
How do they do that............the radiators on this car are in the front.

Absolutely, I still daily drive my Cayman. You may need to watch out if you are in a snowy area though...

Does the base have exhaust crackle and pop?
I don't think so, but a base model can add sports exhaust as an option, now that crackles and pops

the base model sold in China has only 250 hp, not 300. for 300 hp, you have to go with Cayman T
