You see, they are boomers that come from kind of messed up families so they didn't grow up with loving parents like I did and as kids they weren't told they were loved. I've always known my parents love me, but to hear them say it out loud it's still relevant. Words matter. There are multiple words for love in Spanish which makes it harder. It took me months to tell my boyfriend I loved him too and it's probably because up until my nephew was born I didn't say those words a lot.
I just think about how pure a three year olds love is. I have a Son who is three and the look in his eyes when he says it while I'm pushing him on the swings, putting waffles in front of him for breakfast, hugging him goodbye in the mornings at his preschool, and tucking him in to bed. It's real. They feel it with such innocence and truth. It's so beautiful.

Love is "are you warm enough", "did you eat today". It's saving the last piece of cake. It's so many things besides "I love you", but, remember, not everyone sees the big picture so use your words. Remind people they matter. ❤
Love and trust go hand in hand. One can feel love but lack of trust prevents one to demonstrate it. I at one point was very trusting and would show my love until the time I realized I was being lied to and betrayed. Now it hard for me to trust which prevents me to love.

I am racking my brain to remember any time that either of my parents said "I love you" to me...either they did and I was just so secure that I don't remember the actual words, or they didn't, and still I feel secure in the knowledge that they loved me with everything they had. They are both gone now, but I never once doubted their love for me. I have 2 grown children...who make me say "Love you" all the time. I say make, because it doesn't come naturally to me since my parents...as far as I remember...never said it to me. We say "Love" you, not "I love you". their father, my ex husband, always said it without the "I" When he said it that way to me, I always felt it was somehow a way to keep from actually admitting how he felt...or maybe he didn't love me that much? So my kids grew up saying it that way "Love you". I do love my kids...to pieces...and I hope they feel as secure that I love them as i felt with my parents. My ex mother in law said "Love you" all the time, but it was that fake love...like the Hollywood kiss on each cheek when greeting anyone you meet. My kids realized she didn't really love them THAT much, so her "Love you" meant nothing to them...just words in her case. It's all pretty complicated for such a natural emotion.

And when someone says "love you", i don't take them seriously. I feel like there is a difference between "i love you" and just "love you". The latter seems like something people say out of a habit or in an attempt to be warm. People use it very frivolously that it becomes meaningless. Yes, it is nice to hear " i love you" from someone you care about, but i'd rather see it conveyed through action.
I'm sorry but this was just awful. Really you could not help a child by saying "I love u" back. I had a troubled childhood, even was unloved by one of parents. SMH
