One person riding the yellow line makes you and your group visible to oncoming traffic. If you hide behind cars you're going to have a bad day when an oncoming car hops over to make a pass not knowing you're there. Not to mention you have to stagger ride when riding together, if the front man unexpectantly jams on his breaks you're going to be screwed if you're riding in his tracks.
