Bob Iger played himself. He is the most hated man in Disney. Kennedy is second. So yes. His Disney is going in a bad direction right now. He needed Lucas not other way around.
I don't think he necessarily regrets it, but I don't think he's happy with what Star Wars has become. George is a smart guy. He knew that this would happen. You gotta remember that Lucasfilm was kind of in a bad spot at the time. They were losing money and many jobs were on the line. George was also getting old and he needed family time. He didn't want to spend another ten years making a new trilogy. I'm not a fan of what Disney has done to Star Wars but they kind of dug Lucasfilm out of a hole. Bob gave George a deal he couldn't refuse. He had to pass the torch at some point. I think George just wishes they used his stuff that he had planned and stayed more true to what Star Wars is.
@@Terribadguy.I could be wrong but wasn't their talk of a new Back to the future a while back? I hope not. Because it will be woke and go to crap. It doesn't need sequals or remakes like most movies.

i dont understand why Iger cant just have them do George's version. he could literally do that. he is an executive, what does the story matter to him, he should be focused on money
While it IS sad, in the end this was arguably better for star wars. Why? before disney ripped the franchise apart an crawled inside it to keep warm, either the prequels were looked down on or there were bunch of debates that'd never get settled about the WHAT IF or WHAT could have been. And if we're all being real with ourselves here, star wars was starting to fade into the background of our memories when thry bought it. and he was going broke. Despite the new stuff being terrible, it served two HUGE goals. 1, it brought it back into the public eye and reignited our love for it. and 2, it vindicated George an his story in EVERY WAY. And it's kind of poetic... Because now we'll continue the carry that torch for his story. And the loss of what could have been will drive an inspire people in our generation to make their own versions for generations way after them to enjoy and be influenced by. In a way, Disney struck down George's Star Wars only to make it stronger than they could possibly imagine
@@mrlij6534As far as I understand, they thought George's story would fail, getting caught up in the narrative that everyone hated the prequels, so they tried to do the opposite of them. Too late did they realize their mistake, after TLJ, trying to do damage control with Rise of Skywalker (and they struggled to realize even then, thinking Solo flopped because people didn't want to see anymore "star wars stories" or because of fatigue, when it was mostly a reaction after TLJ)
The 80's were insane. Movie stars were STARS, movies were a huge event and Star Wars was everywhere. There were Star Wars toys and stickers in cereal boxes, SW yoyo's, glow in the dark tee shirts, SW arcade games. Times were hard in Ireland in the 80's but at the same time it was as good and as magical as everyone today imagines it was.
I feel ya dude. It's not just starwars. It's everywhere now. Toxic idealism is ruining what we are as individuals. It's normal to disagree with one another and still be civil. It's ruining relationships and franchises.
Well George wanted the 4 billion dollars. It wasn’t enough to have hundreds of millions of dollar. He needed the billions. George Lucas isn’t a victim. He is a billionaire.
What gets me is that Disney strayed away from Georges plans completely out of spite. The biggest problem with the new movies is that they had no plan. Nothing was thought out. After episode 7 everyone wanted to know who Rey is. What is her lineage? And Daisy didn't know. Disney didn't know. They hadn't freaking decided yet!! And that's why the movies are trash. They just wung it. Even though they had a brilliant plan layed out for them by George. They instead decided to go with no plan. It's so insulting to George and star wars fans everywhere.
I think it's a crying shame the hate that has been directed at George Lucas over the years. Fro the Special Edition/Prequel haters to all the Disney shills that desperately try to prop up the new garbage. This man is a visionary that has given me a lifetime of entertainment and wonderful characters. God bless him.
@Jurglenuts Like who Alex Hirsch who wasn't there anymore when Lucas made the final edit? His former wife that called claims like this as "idiotic" but dosen't like media attention unlike RedRedardmedia and uneducated waste of life like them?
I have vague recollections of seeing the original Star Wars as a child. My parents had gone to see it (to make certain it was kid safe), then my mother took me a few days after they had seen it. I was hooked, just as were many others. Then 1999, a Thursday (it was my scheduled day off that day, as I had Thursday/Friday as my weekend from work), I sat down at the first showing at the middle of the day in a small town movie theater. There were about a dozen-plus in attendance. I watched it. It was different, wasn't what I had expected, but, it wasn't hate-worthy. I still watch it, 25 years later. I've been watching this 12 hour brief analysis of the Phantom Menace over the past week. I think the movie has aged well, as Mr. Lucas seems to be capable of capturing contemporary society and then projecting a what-if on an astro-theology mythology scale in a sci-fantasy stage.
@Jurglenuts fans like you are why he sold Star Wars to Bob Iger Keep denying your place in it by blaming Kathleen Kennedy like your idol Chris Stuckman
@Jurglenuts I'm inclined to agree with this sentiment, well most of it anyways. The prequels were... Well, they were what they were. Some cool ideas, interesting concepts, a good bit of world-building that set the stage for the OT; but mired in bad dialogue, questionable writing/directing, and horrendous CGI. I was a kid when the first wave of "Special Edition" releases hit the theaters and I saw them all, and with the exception of the added Jabba scene in ANH, I liked the changes. But the more recent Special Edition releases definitely weren't great or even necessary. The one bit I will disagree on though is Maul... I was fine with him coming back because this time around he actually has character instead of being the edgy, brooding, and silent sith-lackey.
@Jurglenuts Fair enough. My comic-reading days were kind of over by the time the Maul comics were released so I'm not aware of his backstory beyond what "The Phantom Menace" revealed. As for his survival, I had always attributed that to him just being that strong in the Force; kind of a "too angry to die" dark-side sort of thing. I wasn't aware TCW butchered his lore to that degree, but then again I guess that shouldn't be too shocking considering some of the really stupid ideas and concepts they ham-fisted into that show. George may have made this franchise, but not all of his ideas for it were good... Thanks for correcting my misconception. And I'll be sure to give those comics a read at some point.
You're absolutely right, the hype for the prequel trilogy was insane. I consider myself blessed to have been a part of it. I was just a little boy when The Phantom Menace came out and I've been hooked ever since. Like you said, the merchandise was everywhere. I remember then when Attack of the Clones came out and shortly after the 2D animated Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. I was so excited for Revenge of the Sith and I appreciate all of these works even more now in the present day as a 30 year old man. The sequels just don't do the story justice by any means. I truly wish someone would tell George's version of what the sequel story should have been. God bless
Carrie Fisher would still be alive in a parallel universe where the sequel trilogies were great. The evil empire would not allow such hope and enlightenment
one of the greatest moment of my life was that hype for Episode 1....I remember the 2 year countdown... It was epic...The video games were amazing too... Even TPM PC game had a super SW ambiance to it....The whole openeing when we saw young Obi Wan was the coolest moment ever!
I love how much you emphasize being kind and polite in disagreements. It's so rare nowadays to find people that do that. We as people are allowed to disagree and have different points of view, just like Obi-Wan says.
He would go off on the new Disney Star Wars if he could. He even said in another interview “ they sort of went off into a different path than what I intended” screw KK, screw bob iger! One of my biggest issues with the whole sale is how the Expanded Universe was scrapped. The teams that oversaw the continuity of books, comics and games in line with the movies were fantastic! I feel a lot of the haters of the prequels fake to realize, whether out of ignorance or just animosity, the stories that filled in the gaps of the movies were phenomenal! The Star Wars machine was glorious to be a part of. Disney crushed it, burned it and blew the ashes in the wind. The toy market alone took a massive hit; one wave of characters and that was it. Not the continual waves of back corner characters. A lot could be said about the books and this new concept being peddled, but like George said, “You give it up.” For me, nothing post Disney is worth the time.
That's definitely a kick in the privates. I have read some many of the legends books and comics. Such a tragedy. We will never see Mara Jade married to Luke 🥺
I liked the original Star Wars trilogy. I never gave a crap about the Expanded Universe. I have never and will never care about the continuity of books, comics and games. This is just marketing crap. The Disney people have failed to do right by Star Wars, but the franchise needs new creative input, not a recycling of nostalgia and memorabilia.
The EU was not exactly scrapped. Disney purchased LucasFilm, which had never recognized the EU as official canon. Disney did not purchase Random House, Dark Horse Comics, or any other publisher of licensed Star Wars EU content. Contrary to popular belief, that means LucasFilm did not own the rights to any of the EU content. EU creators were licensed to play in the sandbox and create their own original characters and story lines. LucasFilm would have had to negotiate licensing deals with individual publishers and the EU content creators to use their original content. For example, Disney did not drop the name of “Slave One” for Boba Fett’s ship. LucasFilm did not own the rights to the name. Those rights had to be negotiated on a case by case, use by use, basis.
@@thesharpercoder Good points. The Cartoon Network Clone Wars series showed us where Anakin got his scar and introduced General Grievous. The end of the series was the beginning of Episode 3. Disney does not own Funko Pop or Mattel or Golden Books, yet they are in the “sandbox” as you put it. So yes, some minutiae has been bought back but it is a mere pittance of what was created, and for many fans (myself included), a core of Star Wars that was given the go ahead by Lucas, was trashed.
@@brachiator1 So you don’t care about continuity but Disney failed to do right by Star Wars? You don’t see the contradiction in your snarky response? Doing right by Lucas and his Star Wars would be to keep the new ideas in conjunction with the old.

Labeling OG fans who criticize Disney Star Wars as toxic is a dismissive strategy via shaming language. It's a very effective strategy as it works and most people don't know how widespread this shaming language strategy is. Once you know and can identify it you will see it everywhere.
It’s been around for a while and it’s gotten more malicious progressively. This isn’t even the worst of it, if you see people shaming someone online assume it’s for anterior motives and look into it yourself
We should fundraise the money to buy it back from Disney, make an offer impossible to reject. It genuinely hurts me so bad to see what has happened to our Star Wars. My father showed me it when I was very young, and his father with him, was one of the only things I have left that connected me to him now he is gone and they went and ruined it, im partly glad he hasn’t seen what has happened to his space fantasy. Star Wars was so impactful to my taste in storytelling and music. I ended up going into concert band in High School because of the score from the og 6. Star Wars was special to a lot of us 90s kids as much as it was to our parents.

Anya Kuro, Nomi Sunrider, Ashoka, Leia, and the list goes on. We had no problem with female characters prior to hell brought on by Disney. Fun fact Anya Kuro is an amazing Jedi who fought toe to toe with an experienced Vader in her old age and seriously pushed him. she was even referred to as a worthy opponent by Vader himself. Had she trained Anakin he would have mastered his dark tendencies and would have never became Vader. She was the David Goggins among the Jedi in how she trained her students pushing them to the edge of what they were capable of while testing their stance in the light side of the force. Constantly digging and pushing for any signs of self doubt, anger, confusion, or insecurity so her students can become unshakable in mind and body. She had such a connection/relationship to the living force once Vader finally beat her she immediately appeared to him as a force ghost before Obi Wan did as well as having unique force abilities such as bending the light around her to turn invisible or the ability to teleport to different places. Her unshakable devotion to the force rivaled that of Qui Gonn Jinn but her methods were on the opposite side of the spectrum. Due to her harsh training methods other masters called her “the dark woman” a title she embraced after giving up her real name as a show of sacrifice to the force and having zero attachments in the world .
Exactly. The list goes on and on. It's so laughable that Disney claims that we're "sexist" for not liking female characters when they've been around since the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Let me make it perfectly clear that nobody, not one, hates female characters in Star Wars, Disney, Marvel, or anything. We literally grew up with them, We just don't like poorly written female characters. It's as simple as that.

You are allowed to have your own opinions on the prequels. Just because the new stuff is worse doesn't magically turn the prequels into masterpieces lol. (Prequels are cool tho).
@@NewMilleniumDawn it's a shame how people would come to a realisation and change their opinion on something just because they are exposed to something 'worse'. It often means that they never really understand why they had that opinion or that they were just adopting someone else's opinion for themselves for some social reason. I always looked at Starwars as a whole that compliments itself. Each episode from 1-6 is a masterpiece in its own way in my opinion. They all share similar faults but in different contexts. However those faults only add to their charm and are what make them uniquely Star Wars
@invaderIRK1 Agreed! This is a weird trend where people are suddenly looking back at mediocre products and calling them masterpieces due to the state of modern entertainment. That only leads to lowered expectations and anything even remotely decent will be regarded as the new Godfather, it's hilarious.

George should have had a stipulation in the contract that said, "you do 7, 8, and 9 the way I wrote them, or the company reverts back to me (or my heirs)". Who ever got what they wanted by trusting in a large company to "do the right thing"?
Unfortunately, George was too trusting of Bob Iger due to their previous relationship, & it probably never entered his mind that Iger would betray him. George was just too trusting & Iger is a disingenuous snake.
FFS....George Lucas does not care. Period. He sold his company and properties to the only company that had the money to pay what it was all worth. Period. The guy going around saying stuff is just George trying to save a bit of face because he knows how important it is to so many people. Do not think for a min that George is gullible or naive. He's not. He cares not an ounce what Disney does with SW. He does not care an ounce for what anyone thinks about it. Why would he?! If you don't like SW going forward than don't support it. One of my best childhood memories was my mom letting my skip school to go see Episode 1, and then us going to K-Mart afterwards to buy a bunch of the figures. That time that you mention was indeed amazing and you aren't exaggerating at all. It was literally everywhere! Never since then have we seen such a cross promotion between multiple fast food joints too.

It was wonderful time😁I was born in 1985.Leia,Padme,Ahsoka grew. They had stories, they developed, matured. Especially Ahsoka. May the Force be with you always😀
I can confirm the hype in 1999, I was 13 at the moment. I agree that nowadays it is completely impossible to reproduce that kind of interest in a single franchise, let alone create something of this magnitude from scratch. The access to popular culture was limited, now we live in an endless attention economy through internet and social media.
12:00 One additional point which is often overlooked/forgotten - Mr. Lucas was having pitch lunch meetings with Hamill, Fisher, and I think Ford about selling them on participating in 7, 8, and 9 prior to him selling LucasFilm to Disney
I'm a nobody, and you'll probably not even see this comment. But I'm glad that you've come around. I considered you a bit of a Disney apologist for a while. However, Episode 5 one of the most beloved episodes was directed and written by someone else. I'm not trying to excuse bad writting from Disney, just pointing out we might be overhyping George Lucas a bit
I think this is just the way of big and great stories. With Dune, Frank Herbert wrote 6 beloved novels. But once he died, the novels by other authors didn’t live up to his stories and fell flat. But eventually someone comes along and makes something great (the 2 Dune movies) and we get something that lives up to what Dune had once been. It took 60 years but maybe Star Wars will live similarly.
"To be around during the time of Star Wars prequel trilogy, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings; it'll never come back" Amen brother -- nothing will ever be like how it was in the very early 2000's
This is the juiciest interview he has done since the Charlie Rose one in 2015. I loved it when he addressed the Special Editions! To be fair, they could have at least found a way to take off those black bars in that 2006 dvd release. Otherwise I certainly dont begrudge Lucas for not wanting to restore a version of the movie that he doesnt like.
I was 5 years old in 1977 when A New Hope came out. In fact I saw the movie before “A New Hope” was added to the title later. Star Wars changed my short life at 5 during that time. Not only did Star Wars change cinema, but it really did change the World. Everything was and had to be at a faster pace after that movie came out. All cinema had to be faster. All political maneuvering had to be faster. The “Cold War” had to escalate. Troubles in the Middle East. The world was changed.
In hindsight, I wish he had never sold the franchise to Disney but sought out an apprentice like Dave Filoni to carry out the original plan, the original story of our beloved cast.
Part of it was his need to get involved, if he still had any power he’d wanna keep going and thus wouldn’t spend time with his kids. Also, filoni is the worst choice. The stuff he’s done with Disney has been horrible and TCW was a mess. Everyone was mischaracterized and he created so many plot holes with the movies the show was based on and the OT that it’s inexcusable. Sam Witwer, despite his being only an actor, should’ve been his heir. He’s young, George could teach him, and he cares deeply about all of OG SW, and he’s a great storyteller in interviews
Filoni is the reason Star Wars is in such a mess nowadays, because George gave him too much power to change things in his image. He was likely giddier than a schoolgirl when the franchise was signed over to Disney because it gave him even greater freedom to tell his stories, ergo steal from much more talented creators after they threw the EU out the window.
Filoni is sort of an ADHD writer. Just look at the pace and the structure of clone wars. It just was bam bam bam, this that this. It had hardly a moment to breath. And the stuff he introduced? Oh no. It would have been a terrible choice.
I had 10 different lightsabers growing up as a kid and the countless amount of lightsaber battles I had with my brother and buddies made for so many unbelievable memories. It’s too bad George didn’t get to fulfill his vision, breaks my heart a bit. I’m with you dude and you are 100% in tune, unlike the execs at Disney.
It’s so crazy how Hollywood and these studios can be so controlling over projects and manipulate them, but then at the same time we have guys like George Miller, Chris Nolan, Denis Villeneuve out here just cooking the best shit making what they want to make. We need someone with that presence to take over a Star Wars project
I blame him for selling… he should’ve come up with a deal that would be extremely beneficial to Disney, but not selling… I’m pretty sure there was a way, kinda like how Disney can use and make spider-man movies… have Lucasfilm working… rolling movies and keep it working as a separate company without being hands on involved… being the curator of what should happen and be about.
Can relate to what George and you said at 15:48 because I've heard something similar from a number of people in my life, "Star Wars is all about people swinging lightsabers". Have been disappointed to hear that when I was younger but now I know that they just lack the intelligence and perception to see beyond that.
Love that you touched on the toy line! I absolutely LOVED those years man. Best time ever to be a star wars fan. It shows today, who they are trying to reach in these new series. It surely is not us. We need Lucas back asap.

Adam Driver did roast Disney by saying “Wokeness killed Han Solo” during his SNL Season 49 appearance monologue. I understand you guys aren’t SNL Fans…but I recommend watching the monologue where he plays the piano and straight up roasts Disney.
If you re-read the statement, it’s so out of character for George. Magic isn’t made by amateurs? That’s exactly what he was when he made Star Wars! The way it’s worded is not something I’d expect him to say too. All in all, that statement was almost certainly not written by George himself, it’s too obvious.
Because the options were far, far worse. The one thing George knows about Bob Iger is that he makes Disney a LOT of money... and he's got a vested interest in making MONEY at this point in his life so he can build his museum and leave his kids a legacy. The thought that George doesn't have any heirs is WRONG --- he has four kids Amanda Lucas, Katie Lucas, Jett Lucas, and his youngest daughter that was born in 2013. He has SOMETHING to leave them.... Lucasfilm wasn't something any of them wanted to inherit. But best believe he'll want to leave them the MONEY.
Because he is a liberal. Wokeism is not the only problem with Star Wars right now. People need to stop acting like he is a hypocrite for complaining about the state of Star Wars after supporting Iger.
Thank you for making all these Star Wars. Videos please don't stop I like this content. I wish I could watch every video. I'm glad you are keeping the conversation going.

I had always had you pegged as a shill, despite having never watching any of your videos. For that, I apologise. You're a good egg and very clearly not a shill. Keep speaking the truth, brother.
In the first Star Wars besides Princess Leia and Aunt Beru there were two easy to see females in the bar as well as that little bat was a female, probably half of the aliens And creatures Both inside and outside were female, but you couldn't tell.
Fans loved Gina Carano a badass strong female that both on screen and in real life remains true to herself. See what Disney did with this strong female.
I was 7 when Star Wars hit theaters. It seemed like every week we went to see it that summer. The toys WOW! I had both the Death Star and The Falcon. Christmas was alway filled with Star Wars toys. To get Yoda action figure you had to send something in and they sent it to ya. I can’t remember exactly how it worked that was over 30 years ago. I would never change my childhood. You are right it will never be the same.
Wow theory I'm feeling so much nastalgia about those old toy lightsabers. I have so many fond memories of my lightsaber fights with my little bro in the early 2000s
You're good people, Theory. I have enjoyed the fact that when you had to take a stand, when things got to a point where you couldn't ignore this and that, you went full Lucas loyalist and I love you for that.
Personally, I love all of the recent Star Wars content ... it's not all great, but, it's Star Wars! I vividly remember the almost 20 year gap with no (on-screen) Star wars content so, for me this is a dream come true. I love the universe that George created and am perfectly fine with others telling stories in that universe.
Your so right about the prequels marketing and toys. My first lightsaber was the darth maul double blade with the fully collapsable blades, my brother got the quigon and obiwan. These were the coolest toys, you could have it without the blades deployed and then flick it from side to side and the blades came out like a collapsable police baton. when the blades came out they lit up as they deployed and played the ignition sound effect. Then when you would swing it the buzzing swooping noise would give off different noises depending on how you swung it. When you fought with them and the blade would strike something it would make sounds of lightsaber on lightsaber combat. my brother had the same thing but with obiwan and quigon sabers. we shared all three and would come up with a story and who was who and fought so much with those swords they were completely destroyed. We would literally duel all day long for years. I still remember duel wielding the darth maul saber in one hand and the obiwan in the other, i really liked that duality of being a lightside force user that also used dark side techniques for the light. There were so many different fighting styles we used like simiple obiwan vs quigon with single sabers. Then i got really good with duel wielding the two single sabers similar to how starkiller did in the force unleashed mixing reverse holding one and forward holding the other one. And eventually this led up to my favorite style of the darth maul blade in one hand holding it like a reverse single so i had defensive blocks from the front blade and rear blade and with the a single obiwan saber in my dominant right hand using it kinda like a dooku fencing style. I fucking loved that shit so much. I wish someone recorded us fighting. The movements and fights were so on pair or better than alot of the official fights in the movies. I basically created my own character which was alot like revan but years before kotor came out. my brother would switch between maul or quigon jin mostly.
I have loved star wars since I was a kid. I'm a gay dude and am all for having people of color and what not in the movies and shows. I'm not ok with abusing what lucas made to throw their political agenda in our faces. Not a fan of them picking directors who practically say they hate star wars. I don't care about lesbian space witches I care about them destroying the meaning of starwars. I'm sick of seeing anaking bashed. Tired of them bastardising the force putting it into their own mold of what they think it is. I'm tired of the shitty writing and disrespect for the original characters. They need stop with the agenda and go back to basics of what star wars is all about. What it has become breaks my heart.
George has no heirs??? He has children. What about Katie who did a lot of writing for Clone Wars? He could have insisted consulting oversight into the contract. Ultimately, George has to swallow the 💩 Disney forces on everyone because he signed EVERYTHING away for $$$. You reap what you sew.
Yea give it to his kids so the fan base can shit on them too. You must not have been old enough when the prequels came out. Everyone hated them. You know absolutely nothing and it shows.
@@yvngsn0wI was, and you’re lying. There were haters, but they were the minority by a long shot. Whenever I interacted with them on forums it seemed like their bubble was making them delusional. Even today many of the criticisms of the PT are BS and come from a place of nostalgia. They were upset because of things like jar jar reminding them that these movies made for kids and they’re adults, the politics because it’s fairly adult for Star Wars, because it’s different from the OT for obvious reasons. The PT has always been good, and the prequels hate only existed in a small group of OT fans and Hollywood. It was only years after with OT fans dunking on it on TH-cam that hating them became mainstream
@@oldylad not reading your delusional response. You’re ignorant too. Why do you think George sold it in the first place. Here’s a hint he stated he was tired and exhausted of all the hate. Funny how it continues all these years later. I don’t blame him.
We had so many fights with those plastic lightsabers with the telescopic blades! Every single person in my life has at one point picked one up, turned it on, flicked their wrist to shoot the blades out, made the "SZHHHOOOM" sound, and looked at it just for a second. For a split second life paused and my parents were little kids again. Everybody holding one of those was briefly transported to a galaxy far, far, away. The exact same reaction in real life as in ANH when Luke ignites the lightsaber and is in awe of it. Such a lovely shared cultural currency that we as a society are sadly being robbed of. It crossed generations, tastes, and any kind of barrier that lesser media stumbles over. If somehow an un-published, half-finished work by Beethoven, Mozart, Van Gogh, or Monet was discovered and shared with the world only to then be given over to someone with no appreciation for its cultural value and completed in their own selfish way people would understandably be upset. It would create a visceral response. Star Wars is probably the last piece of art that brought people together on a similar level. It is not "high art" but, in the same way as we all know the works of those artists (even without realising it), our families, friends, and all of global society knows "No.....I am your father!". It is sad that this legacy has not been given its due respect. Putting questions over quality aside, the lack of respect is the nail in the coffin. Entertainment and media have grown and changed so that the effects and visual amazement of Star Wars is no longer novel, but, much like how Lord of the Rings has the Silmarillion, Star Wars has years of lore and development that create a feeling of authenticity, realism, and escapism all at once. We can knowingly watch, read, or play a made up story while at the same time allow ourselves to believe, even if only for the duration of the experience, that it is real and we are part of another universe. Star Wars, particularly the shows and movies, no longer provides that, and it means for kids and future generations it will not ignite their imaginations and is therefore very unlikely to draw them in. Being the right age for the Prequels, LotR, and Harry Potter has provided me, my brother, my wife, and all our friends common language and a sense of shared experience that bonds us. We all remember seeing one of these, remember our parents reading one of them to us, remember nights spent debating and discussing events, and it has enriched our lives. Some of my generation are now are starting to share it with their own kids and getting a whole new experience from it. Modern offerings do not stack up to this. Game of Thrones probably came the closest, but only a few years after the show has ended and I don't see any kind of similar devotion to "the big 3" for that property. It is a sad state of affairs Star Wars finds itself in. There seems little hope of a return to form on screen, doesn't there? Each new project announced I find myself getting less and less interested in something that for most of my life has been a source of joy and wonder. For now I guess we'll have to rely on the pre-Disney media out there and keep finding enjoyment in new ways. Your lore videos for example! I really enjoy your channel and appreciate what you do. It's about the only Star Wars stuff I do enjoy these days. Thanks for what you do, cheers!
How hard would it be to crowd fund or convince George Lucas to do a Zack Snyder style cut for episodes 7, 8, and 9?? I would be happy to bring balance back to the force!
George Lucas changed a lot of peoples lives. He is one of the greatest creators out there. The movie industry uses a lot of effects originally created by him. A true legend. I was 6 when the first movie came out, and star wars his been a part of my life ever since.
Bob Iger didn't force George to do anything, but maybe he deceived him, or coaxed him, or whatever the correct word is. George has heirs, so if Iger somehow was able to used that lie to convince George to sell, then George simply let himself be deceived. All I would have to say to that is, "George, dude, what drugs were you on that day?"
I mean… if you were going to hand a fantasy world-build over to a company, Disney would seem a safe bet. The reality is that no corporation will keep the soul of the IP intact.
Ah yes theory ranting on what George should have done with star wars for almost 30 minutes yeah we get it theory George wanted star wars to be better than what we got with the sequels think you need to move on from that since hes not in charge anymore
He's covering the new interview with George. It is something to talk about. But if it weren't for the fact it's a new thing adding to the topic, I would agree. It's time to move on.
Bob Iger pretty much played George like Palpatine played Anakin.
Ironic..
It's poetry because it rhymes.
I was gonna say how Palpatine played Jar Jar, but this works to
Bob Iger played himself. He is the most hated man in Disney. Kennedy is second. So yes. His Disney is going in a bad direction right now. He needed Lucas not other way around.
If you really wanna look at the long game George is palpatine and Disney is Anakin
Lmao hell no Disney is palpatine@@drewhess4569
Fun Fact: He regrets selling it
edit: appreciate the likes and fun discussion. At least we agree he hates disney.
To Disney, certainly
I'm sure he does.
No, he doesn't. He literally sold it for $4 billion, and now he can spend time with his family.
100% agree
There is a reason why J.R.R. Tolkien forbid in his will, that Disney uses any of his books commercially, ever.
Straight up. I’m surprised that others haven’t followed Tolkien’s example.

It’s so sad hearing George sound defeated. He’s trying to dodge a PR disaster. He wants to respectfully acknowledge Bob but without bashing him.
i dont understand why Iger cant just have them do George's version. he could literally do that. he is an executive, what does the story matter to him, he should be focused on money
Too late did they realize their mistake, after TLJ, trying to do damage control with Rise of Skywalker (and they struggled to realize even then, thinking Solo flopped because people didn't want to see anymore "star wars stories" or because of fatigue, when it was mostly a reaction after TLJ)
unfortunately he's not Elon Musk where he can ego trip and say whatever profanities he wants on live television.
Oh please. He sold it and his soul for money.
The 80's were insane. Movie stars were STARS, movies were a huge event and Star Wars was everywhere. There were Star Wars toys and stickers in cereal boxes, SW yoyo's, glow in the dark tee shirts, SW arcade games.
@Jurglenuts fans like you are why he sold Star Wars to Bob Iger
Keep denying your place in it by blaming Kathleen Kennedy like your idol Chris Stuckman

God bless

@@thesharpercoder
Good points.

He Had More Of A Relationship With Michael Eisner Than Bob Iger.

Hearing you talk about how insane the hype of Star Wars in 1999 was and how all the toy aisles were just wall to wall Star Wars hit me with so much nostalgia. I loved being a kid in the 90’s, such an awesome time to grow up.
I still have the qui-gon, obi-wan AND maul extendo flash light sabers from 1999. I was the toys dep head at Walmart so I had first dibs lol

But not from Disney. They would just make it woke.

@@xjoemallardx No, but shit like Force is Female IS.
It’s really bittersweet to see George like this, his voice is so different now. He really earns his retirement. It’s just to bad how everything was working out was Disney till today.
I completely agree with everything you said. Perfect! I can imagine hype for Phantom Menace. Feelings for Harry Potter and LORT will never come back.
8:00 Thank you for mentioning Bastila Shan in league with Padme and Leia.
I was kinda satisfied with the initial Disney Star Wars, e.g. Rogue One, but increasingly hated Disney's direction as their sequel series progressed.
I'll always love the old George Lucas' Star Wars. I love the Darth Vader and Siddeous books and lore. I miss that Disney.
He’s definitely not a Disney apologist- and you can tell his fanbase has very strong opinions on the new movies, so strong you can even tell what their political views are

(Don't worry I'm gonna block you and anyone else who tries to say different)

Exactly. Its not like Lucas was thinking "man Id love to sell my IP and watch it go to shit and be ruined by modern culture" He thought Iger had a plan to keep it afloat and relevant, but it did die after their first movie.
I will NEVER hate the Prequels because the prequels were HIS idea.. HIS mind. HIS writing
regardless of what anyone's personal feelings are or were or will be.
The Prequel trilogy IS GEORGE LUCAS STAR WARS.
Had fans not bitched and moaned
We would of gotten a Maul led crimson dawn as the big bad for the sequel trilogy
It's why George had Dave bring Maul back
Since Bob Iger and Disney lied about his input being valid , they took his ideas and sprinkled them on Solo, and The Mandalorian season 3
Prequel era , Harry Potter and LOTR time frame so basically 99-2012ish was literally the greatest years of my life! The world just felt different man!
“Even though like with Empire Strikes Back I ended up having to be on the set the whole time. But it's like I was the only one that really knew what Star Wars was and Kershner and I were really good friends. So I was like the consultant, the advisor who actually knew the world, because there's a lot to it.
The Force, nobody understood the force, nobody, you know, what they do is...”
to me star wars was a way for my dad and I to connect, like he doesn’t like any sci fi or fantasy setting except star wars and when I was younger we would watch the original trilogy over and over and the prequels too. It’s absolutely heart breaking what the new “star wars” has become
You are by far the classiest out of all the youtubers. Trashing people with different views is not needed. Keep up the good work Theory.
He proceeded to trash them in the most subtle way like usual. He's very passive aggressive
Swt was the only popular TH-camr who defended the prequels unlike the ones who shilled and rage baited for views
I'll always be a fan of his for that
I am thankful I grew up in the late 70's and 80's. It's impossible to convey the magic that was Star Wars in 1983. Just try to imagine seeing a movie with the most advanced special effects and a story that left you joyful at the end.
George should launch a new IP called War in the Stars, then we can all be happy again.
"Stars of War"
9:32 hear him. Flash Gordon. I never hear anyone put Star Wars in that context anymore. Now imagine if Disney bought the Flash Gordon franchise and what they’d do with it.
I feel like there is an element of the Fans that Romantize George Lucas. He is great for creating start wars and the ideas behind it all.
What Theory feels about episode 1 is the way i felt in 77 when the movie first came out. You could feel the excitement in the air.
I notice you keep pushing being kind and respectful and that’s great, you don’t always follow it but it is a good message.
@@oldyladTCW is perfection, you're just an idiot...
Filoni is no better than Kathleen Kennedy, wtf do you mean??
Bizarre that a gaming company can get it pretty much right (Jedi Survivor) and Disney make a total mess of it.
Amen

In another world he didnt sell. The hate was bad. He didn't consider the offer. He made his movies and some people hated them. But a lot of people would come to appreciate them.
All the people who attacked the prequels are responsible for George selling this to Disney and have no right to complain

Then why did George support Bob in the latest vote? I don't get it man.

They were upset because of things like jar jar reminding them that these movies made for kids and they’re adults, the politics because it’s fairly adult for Star Wars, because it’s different from the OT for obvious reasons.
