What irritates me about this whole thing: if Disney was honest about this from the very beginning instead of attacking fans, we probably wouldn’t be in this situation right now
I agree. If only the sequels had more creative control like the other two trilogies did. As much as I want to hate the sequels, I can’t. I can’t be mad at the actors for this, nor the writers. I’m mad at Kathleen for lying to George and the fans. She was the wrong choice for being picked as the president of the company. The Kathleen we knew from the past is gone and is replaced with someone who is nothing more than a liar.
Exactly! Now that you say that I’m realizing how true it is. I’ve loved a Disney and Star Wars for a long time but they made it seem like it was our fault that the movies were bad.
The worst part of this sequel trilogy is how it squandered Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill. We never got to see them re united and now we never will.
And they failed to use chewy, R2 and Ackbar. They failed the size and scope of the galaxy. The other star wars films made you feel like there was a bigger universe out there. The sequels made everything feel smaller. Things need to grow not shrink and I'm not meaning a star killer base. They needed new ideas, new threats and grow thr mythology. They need better a better creative team.
@@bogdawson2323 to add onto this; their was no reason R2 shouldn't have been utilized. and for him to turn himself off after Luke left was honestly stupid cause he didn't do that with Anakin, and him and Anakin had been together for much longer and grown more of a bond. their was no reason BB-8 shoulda been the main droid
Okay first of all Harrison Ford wanted out ever since the Empire Strikes Back so they killed Han Solo off so Harrison could move on and Carrie Fisher passed away so it makes her appearances limited.
@@Lachgummei And Rey survived alone and grew up climbing around an old star destroyer using the Force unbeknownst to her. What did Luke do? Luke is the Mary Sue.
@@artdeco4143 Luke's aunt and uncle were both burned alive, he then watched his mentor figure die and then found out that his father was the most evil and hated man in the galaxy, responsible for multiple horrific genocides. Just as a few examples
The sequel trilogy should NOT be canon. The only way Disney can make it right is by scrapping it and letting Lucas be in charge of a new sequel trilogy. It's such a travesty that time was wasted and we lost Carrie Fisher in the midst of it. Now that I am thinking about more in detail, I'm very angry. F*** Disney.
One of my biggest issues with Disney and Kennedy is that they complained about not having any books or comics or anything to inspire their new stuff or whatever. There are literally HUNDREDS of books and comics they could use. They could've picked ANY book series at random in the expanded universe, and the movies would've been way better than what they have now.
also they did pull multiple concepts from legends like clone palpatine, han and leia having a son who falls to the dark side being 2 i immediately think of yet they adapted them terribly. clone palpatine was always stupid but they made it even more stupid and just because they had no ideas
@@crystalbluepartain3434 yes but Jacen Solo‘s fall to the dark side is part of a larger story line. He became Darth Caedus for actual reasons, not because of teenage angst. Disney took a few concepts from legends, fucking them up to a ludicrous extent and then calling it „fanservice“ !
I think they realized it when mark hamill said it was a real Pity that Harrison Ford, Carrie fisher and mark didn’t get the chance for a reunion on camera together
I am still bothered we were denied this reunion and so much more...I was out after the TFA. Mando is what brought me back. Andor has ready for a new movie.
IMO, this is the reason SWs will never be able to be "saved" to become what it once was. They killed all three original stars, as well as their children. The only one with his lineage intact is the evil Emperor in Rey. So without a reboot, Star Wars going forward moved from the Skywalkers to the Palpatines. I still think they could make good stories in the SW universe, I just don't think it can reach the heights of pre-Disney SW.
They don’t need to admit anything. True fans know…. Sequels had no plan. Lied to George and rushed out a quick copy of nostalgia for the original trilogy. George said it would take 10 years to make it right. They announced a trilogy as soon as they bought it. Didn’t even have it planned. It’s simple. They made a huge mistake and one that tore half the fan base apart..
I had misgivings all the way back to when Disney bought Lucasfilm and before the ink was even dry on the sale they had announced a new trilogy of films and it only amplified when all they talked about was how they were going back to practical effects even down to the original cameras used to film A New Hope and it just had this air of "Hey we hated the prequels too so we're going back to the original trilogy!" and someone who was a fan of the prequels that didn't help and that's ontop of them canceling the EU. Sadly time has only borne out how right my gut instinct was. I wanted to be proven wrong but sadly I was right.
Look, I dislike the prequels but at least it was one director and one writer. Makes a huge difference when you have one vision. Or even a vision at all.
I really got into Star Wars (like REALLY got into it) shortly before TFA through the Darth Bane books. Imagine how happy I was when they announced: Hey we are gonna scrap EVERYTHING you enjoyed but we are gonna make different Things that suck ._.
I was 23 when the first film came out. I have been a fan since, married into Star wars and visited Skywalker weekly for many, many years. At 69 it is supremely sad to watch what is going on. I don't have hope that the spirit will return while Disney helms this franchise. But we have The Clone Wars, the first six films and the Bad Batch. The animations are brilliant.
Disney absolutely ruined the sequel trilogy. The entire concept of trying to make a coherent trilogy by letting each film's director take the film in basically any direction that they desire, regardless of continuity is obviously going to result in a horrible disaster. What complete folly! Kathleen Kennedy is an astonishingly incompetent executive.
Absolutely. I'd say what the serious problem with the The Last Jedi is that, while Rian Johnson isn't a bad director and he had good ideas to introduce to Star Wars, he decided (and with Kathleen's endorsement) to make his OWN Star Wars film with the SECOND Film of a Trilogy, when his Job was to make a Star Wars Movie and have everything build up the Third Film, cause no doubt the original trilogy wasn't directed by George Lucas but people back then still knew how to make movies properly. Abrams definitely had intentions for the Trilogy going into force Awakens then everything Changed when Johnson decided to take a giant Dump 💩 on the endless possibilities presented for some subversive bullshit that went nowhere.
To think Kennedy was involved in so many films as a Producer, many many films, you'd think she'd have learned how to make films but then she turned into a Regressive Feminist.
@@marksalmoneussorcerersupreme seeing her track record she could have been legendary. Wasnt it George who recommended her? Sadly something sucked out her soul and she became a puppet for the disney overlords.
I still can't believe that they spent all the money just to give us this Sh** Show of a story. There were so many good novelizations of continued storylines for the original trilogy that do justice to the story. I would be happy with a movie adaptation of "Heir to the Empire" that would've been awesome.
I can’t believe Kennedy said she was doing fan service with the sequels. My goodness those movies were so far from fan service. No one wanted Luke to be like that.
it was a character assasination, they are high on anti-patriarchy under KK reducing all the male characters to broken excuses for men instead of the symbols of hope and strength we held them as before.
Imagine not putting Luke, Leia, and Han all together for an on-screen reunion, despite having every opportunity to do so, and calling that fan service.
yes, i have never experienced total apathy for anything like Disney's Star Wars... its gone beyond apathy at this point to sheer spite for Disney for what they have done.
@@johnpaulpastore5394 Always thought the Luke from "Jedi Academy" (the game), was the best version. He trained new jedi in the way of the force by teaching them that Light and Dark abilities were beneficial, as long as the dark side doesn't consume one or determine your fate. He felt like a wise master, who had seen his own father, who once was a jedi, turned evil returning back to the light side of the force. Hence, why he wouldn't be so avert to seeing dark side abilities/tendencies of the forece being used or touched upon. The Luke past his father's death would guide new force users to make use of both sides of the force and balance them out. But the movies turned him into a scared (of the dark side), inexperienced and unsmart hermit. ... That really doesn't fit with the conclusion of "Return of the Jedi".
Luke isn’t the Chosen One. He never was, nor was he ever meant to be. Anakin IS the Chosen One. Even George has said it, himself. That even when he’s in the (Darth Vader) suit, he is still the Chosen One. Luke is merely the catalyst.. to bring his father back to the Light.
@@DamianHowardTV true point but I think the bigger point with this video is how they took a hero we all loved as kids and turned him into a wimpy old man who is scared to be a Jedi, the one thing he wanted to become when we all watched his movies
Well Mark Hamill and Carrey Fisher gave their best performance in TLJ. And in my head canon the sequel trilogy ends with TLJ cause it still has some dignity. But truly Hamill and Fisher absolutely killed it.
My 12 yr old daughter watched the last jedi and rise of skywalker on her own. She didn't know I was in the other room listening. Even she couldn't grasp why Disney did what they did. The phrase "why are they doing that, it doesn't make sense" was commonly heard from her. If a 12 yr old can realize, then Disney has no excuses
@@raidengoodman8754 my 9 month old son just watched the book of boba fett by himself, I overheard him from my hiding spot in the closet. Truly a disgrace to the character of boba fett.”
Well. I tend to consider st age 10 one is already mentally capable of evaluating media. So saying even a 12 year old can notice is underestimating 12 year olds. But that just proves you don't need any studies to notice it is bad, which proves it IS objectively so.
I worked at a day care and summer camp for over five years, supervising elementary aged children five days a week...I 100% believe a 12 year old child could see the BS in ROS as you have described. Not being sarcastic!
At the end of the Disney trilogy, Ray is literally the emperor. He said if you killed him, he would transfer his soul into her and she killed him. She is literally the emperor now it’s sad after all that the emperor won
@@douglasmacarthur1945 idk if the ritual requires your enemy to strike you down in anger, but like how he wanted Luke to. Since it was reflected, it may be a technicality
I mean, I get it with Han, Harrison Ford famously doesn't like Star Wars all that much and was wanting to stop playing Han in episode 5, so I expected him to die in TFA, Leia, they didn't really have a choice did they what could they have done? But Luke? There was no excuse for that, Mark Hamill is clearly passionate still about that character, he talks about Star Wars to this day like an excited child, he could, would and should have had a far better run with Luke in the sequels.
It was "fan service" in that they forced the legacy characters to fit into the stories they wanted to tell, rather than being true to the characters, and hoped that the legacy elements would be enough to satisfy the established fan base. "Playing it safe" was going along with the production trends in Hollywood, checking diversity boxes and playing to agendas (and China). It was easy to stick with the groupthink.
Exactly. They didn’t even put them in the same frame and made Han a deadbeat dad. It was all about tearing down male characters. That was their only plan.
@@cptsteele91 the worst part is that Harrison Ford doesn't want to do Star Wars anymore so we won't have any closure when it comes to the character. Carrie Fisher died and she will be remembered based on the Sequels with no chance to star in any other movie to bring closure and with only Mark Hamill still present to maybe fix things, a true sequel to the Original trilogy isn't exactly possible

57 year old fan here, and have been a fan ever since watching ANH in the cinema back in 1977. I have read a lot of what is now termed “legends”, and imho Disney screwed up by declaring that immense trove of material “non-canon”. I would have loved to see Talon Harrde and Mara Jade just to name a few, shown in the silver screen. As you very well put it, they didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.
They destroyed it by axing the extended universe. We will never see Luke at his prime being the most powerful Jedi. They had so much content paid out for them. They could’ve just used books and comics as scripts and made billions off the true fans
@@bigjake8943 Not necessarily. They could always do a show or movie using his voice and CGI over a double as they did for a couple scenes of him and Princess Leia. He might need to keep his hood up a lot to save money though.
I like Corran Horne, and Jaina Solo was everything they wanted Rey to be and then some. Honestly, I am thankful, because losing that legends canon and a the hours I invested in those books allowed me to disconnect from the tragedy of the sequel trilogy. They essentially closed my account.
@@EobardTron That’s how I feel too. Well put. I couldn’t fathom the bizarre decision of trashing so many beloved stories, which also had the true “feel” of Star Wars, too. It turned me off years ago.
I’m 6 months late but I’m so happy that someone from your generation, with a platform as large as yours, voiced each and every one of the concerns you raised. So often older fans get dismissed for our dissatisfaction with the current product.
Man it is so refreshing to hear him tear them apart. I was so upset when the sequels were coming out because I noticed all the things he’s pointing out but he never talked about them. Now he is ripping them apart and I’m loving it!
Same i've been saying how SWT feels for a while now, it's why i left watching his videos, cause he just seemed to be ignoring all the issues. Trying hard to "stay positive", keep looking on the bright side, but rest of us we all could see how it's been falling apart at Lucasfilm. Only Favreau & Filloni have been holding it together with their awesome "Mandoverse", and even Kennedy has tampered with that abit in BOBF.
The biggest crime was not having Luke, Han, and Lea together one last time. I mean who in their right mind gets all three of them to sign onto a movie, and then decide not to have them reunite? Not going to even get into character mishandling, making Rey a god, or killing Han for shock value. Edit, yes I know Han was meant to die. I’m referring to the way it was handled. Yet another edit since you have to spell everything out for the readers now. Han was meant to die because Harrison Ford. Yes I know. I thought simply stating Hans death that would be inferred and people would understand I was referring to the way it was handled.
Harrison Ford wanted Han to die, so I get that. But the way they killed off Luke for no apparent reason other than the fact he was tired after a little Force-wielding was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen on film.
@@DK-gy7ll I know Harrison wanted to kill of Han, but Hans death is one of the most wasted deaths in movie history. It’s only real function was to be shocking. It didn’t change the plot. His death had no emotion. It didn’t even have any real impact on the other characters. It was a terribly handled death.
Or the fact Han apparently didn't learn his lesson and went back to being a selfish smuggler, abandoning his partner and child. Made no sense. Complete 180 on his entire character arc in the OT.
The tragedy for me is that I saw where the potential was for these movies, but it never pays off. I've loved Star Wars my entire life, and it makes me sad to see it struggle like this
@@Daddyvader7 Thinking the same thing. Awakens isn't the best movie but it was open ended enough where a good writer could progress the story in the right direction. But then RJ had to go and try to reinvent Star Wars instead of just sticking to what would work. Leaving no way to salvage the trilogy. Unless JJ was some kind of genius, I can't see any way he could have salvaged it after TLJ.
RIGHT?!? Like I actually saw things going places for Rey, that she was going to have really good character development after the first movie and that Luke’s whole hermit thing would have an interesting and sympathetic justification and development. NOPE. Rian Johnson quite literally said “FUCK ALL THAT, I DON’T CARE!”
No plan, no development, no good writing, no good characters, selfish, corporate money grab. That’s all this is. Disney’s dumpster fire needs to burn out.
And the mandalorian just make it worse, 5 years after the fall of the empire and he doesnt even have 1 student, ahsoka dont want to help him and he still building the academy where he will try to kill his students, probably still a virgin.
The biggest problem is that Disney goes hard one way or the other. They either lock down creativity with executive decisions or give random or questionable talent full creative license.
Dave Filoni isn't random or questionable. He made clone wars. Ron Howard definitely not either. So I assume you mean the rogue one director (Gareth Edwards). He nailed it though

I'm so glad you got this off your chest! Thank you for saying loud and clear what so many of us have also been wanting to say. The content we've been getting from Lucasfilm (besides work from Filoni) has been really unacceptable. Hearing how Rian wants a film to be divisive broke my heart and kind of feels like he's just trying to cover up his failure. We have always been stronger together and the lack of unity that has been in our fandom since the sequels came out has broke my heart. The solution to all their problems is ridiculously simple and that they can't see it really shows how blind and oblivious to their own audience they are: Just give it all to Filoni. He will bring balance as he has in every project he releases. Star Wars is by nerds for nerds, how they're expecting fans who fell in love with Star Wars because of George's stories to be happy with projects that weren't directed or produced by people who fell in love with George's stories is beyond me. It's ridiculous and unacceptable. We just want Star Wars. Thank you for this video. All of this needed to be said.
Create a new timeline... pick up from 50 years after return of jedi. After Luke's death or soon to be death and tell the story of his young jedi temple as the young jedi look to branch out the jedi influence in galaxy... Have Han's kids and Luke's kids in the temple and thrown in some aliens and give luke or Han a kid with dark side leanings. Maybe make a palatine grand kid be somewhere in the mix. Boom. A story filled with force users.
At least we get to hear what he thinks, however cracked. I can't find any interviews with Richard Lester about his experience on _Superman II_ and what he was thinking with his changes. Some kids saw that as their first live-action, non-kiddy movie for which they were awestruck, so it's perfect to them. Others have different opinions.
Duel of the Fates… who knew the duel was between Filoni’s vision and understanding of Lucas vs Kk-RCJ verse. Filoni understands the heart of what Lucas was trying to accomplish and has the ability to carry the vision forward. KK doesn’t. Much like the dark side, quicker, easier, more seductive. That’s what Disney has done. They were given great power. And we know the line about “With great power…”. Point in case. I have a friend of 27 years thy had NEVER seen Star Wars. Two years ago we took him through OT and Prequels and Rogue One. He FELL IN LOVE. Then he saw the sequel trilogy. He wanted to quit. Then he saw Mando and fell in love again. Then he saw Boba Fett and was let down. He gave up halfway through Andor. Keep in mind this isn’t a guy that is married to nostalgia for the hood old days. His exact words “This series seems schizophrenic and doesn’t make sense. I won’t give anymore of my life to this franchise.” It was my LOVE of Star Wars I wanted to share with my friend. Not the franchise itself. I wanted him to fall in love. And he did. And now he is resentful of what Disney has done to his love of the franchise, a guy who has only been a fan for a couple years. He looks at me and says, “I remember how much this meant to you growing up. I can’t imagine what you’re feeling.”
Man, the ending gave me chills. I'm 36 and have also been a fan since I was 6. I get it man. Literally cried tears of rage at episode 9. I felt like my entire childhood was ruined. My friends tell me all the time I need to podcast about my feelings. Dave is the only guy holding it together.
“Fan service” is their way of passing the blame onto the “fans” and absolving themselves of their mistakes. She’s not talking to the fans, but to the board.
Perhaps ignore them look at it like Luke and them fulfilled the purpose after 6 and enjoy the content we have now. Then perhaps if they do a series years after The supposed Sequel timeline it can be enjoyed clean slate
I was just reading how Geena Davis was persona non grata in Hollywood after her $100 million film, Cutthroat Island, flopped. How do you justify 5 movies underperforming in the billions? Blame fans and women-haters (who took over the fandom).
The thing that baffles me the most was how much resources they had at their disposal. They had the EU, Dave Filoni, Lucas's notes, the financial and commercial power of Disney, the rising wave that was the MCU and much more.
Why can't they see this. EU already exists. Story is already there. Just do it! No here's my story that's not canon now.. like you don't know more about STAR WARS. Then George mfing Lucas deals feloni and STAR WARS itself
Yeah because these Hollywood "creatives" think they can make a more interesting story and characters without using source material or the essence of the world that's already laid out in front of them, and they fail time after time again.
The most important part was that they had fans and an extended universe that were incredibly complex and interesting. They didn't even need any of their hack Hollywood writers. Just grab some of the super-fans that really know this stuff. Like you said, they had "unlimited power" and they squandered all of it.
Yea because Disney was such a champion of respecting it's audience before they had marvel and star wars under their umbrella and Filoni totally didn't ruin all respect he had by selling his coworkers down the river so he could make an Ashoka show that will probably blow chunks thicker than your mom and Lucas totally didn't make the worst decisions ever regarding the original trilogy and then followed that up with Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones which are boring movies that do nothing but set up a movie that works without the setup because A New Hope worked without the setup
Please release the George Lucas 7-9 already! Even if it’s just legends or visions he deserves to have his final story told! Help spread the movement guys! We can do this! Hopefully before George passes away!! We owe him!!
That would be awesome. But it’ll never happen. Disney can’t see anything but $$$. They won’t share it with Lucas if they can keep releasing garbage and getting billion dollar returns.
I 100% agree with the Rey V.S. Ashoka Debate, it isn’t sexism Rey just want written well, Bo Katan is one of my 2 favorite characters from the Disney+ shows cuz she is competent, strong and a true leader. We know from past media WHY Bo Katan is that way, Rey just figured stuff out.
@@julijan2653 yes remove them from canon and give us a live action adaptation of the thrawn trilogy novels. just adapt them the same way HBO adapted GOT and HOTD. I've said it before, I will no doubt say it again - your candor and sincerity as a genuine Star Wars fan is truly appreciated. Even the criticisms you level are heartfelt, and coming from a place of love for the story, its creator, and the enormous army of people who worked their asses off for decades to make his vision possible for us to see. You can't preface a rant like this with 'have some respect...' then proceed to gatekeep and twist things like the director of Andor isn't a Star Wars fan therefore shouldn't be making Star Wars. Despite it being fantastic.
"Fan service" is throwing something into a story for the sole purpose of pleasing the fan base. "Fan service" is often (but not always) considered a negative term, while "easter egg" carries the more positive connotation. At the most basic level, fan service is of no value to the story. Easy example is Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba making their cameo in Rogue One. At a more advanced level, fan service is forcing a legacy element into a story to try to boost its acceptance. Often this means that it doesn't fall in line with what came before. Prime example is TFA. In contrast, Andor gives us a proper use of legacy. The appearances of Mon Mothma and Admiral Yularen are both relevant to the story and fit in with what has already been established. It is not fan service, but good writing.
I was 12 when the originals came out and was absolutely thrilled that I got to share that kind of experience with my oldest son when the prequels came out. He was too young to understand the flaws in those and he loved them. So when this latest batch was coming out I was equally excited to share them with my youngest son, who is 10 years younger than his brother. Sadly, we made it through the first one and that was pretty much it. I was so heartbroken with what I saw that I didn't really want him to have that as his Star Wars memory. I can never forgive Disney.
I took my son to see TFA when he was 3 years old. I don't know if he really understood what he was watching, but he's a smart kid. I was 3 when the original Star Wars came out and no one took me to watch it so I wanted him to have that experience. It's just irresponsible, to waste that much money by not taking more care. Even George wrote out three movies, before trying to fit it all in to the first one, because he wasn't sure he would get to make the other 2. That clearly isn't the case here....
They didn't even have a plan, as shareholder you should be fuming over the risk management of Disney and Lucasfilm. They just improvised 3 movies that would impact the value of a $4 billon dollar asset, if most people did that on a $100,000 project you would be shown the door.
I’m 48 and I’m fuming at what Disney had done to Star Wars. I agree with everything you said. There are some amazing novels they could have adapted, like the Bane Trilogy and Darth Plagueis.
Do you guys remember, when Anakin tried to hold back the (fire) explosion, in the Clone Wars tv show? This is what they should have been done for Leia. It would have been absolutely awesome if we go a scene like that, instead of the flying Mary Poppins scene we got.
I feel you yet I also find it funny they used a similar scene in an EU book where there was an incident with Vader was jettisoned from his TIE fighter and he used the Force to reenter the craft and seal it so he could survive until a Star Destroyer came to pick him up. I wasnt completely upset with that scene only because of that. It seemed to me that though they state they didnt have content to pull from they have used quite a few elements from the EU in the making of the ST. Kennedy Abrams and Johnson and whoever pull their strings should never touch another project again.
I love how 10 years ago it was the fans of the OT dunking on the PT, then the ST comes out and both OT and PT fans mutually agree that maybe the PT wasn’t so bad after all.
As kid who grew up when the PT came out and always defended it it’s pretty funny, but let’s not forget PT did get heavily padded by the masterpiece of clone wars and the adjacent shows.
this is true. the PT did receive hate. If you listen closely, the portrayal of Anakin is still getting dunked on til this day. People say Clone Wars Anakin is their definitive Anakin, not the one George directed.
Growing up, I always watched the original franchise with my dad. 90s baby here, but my dad LOVED the original films, sadly he passed in 2012 so he never got to see the disney sequels. Appreciate the videos man!
What I hated most was when KK said DLF didn't owe the old fandom anything, they owe us everything because without us there wouldn't have been an IP for Disney to buy at all. It's the old fandom who've kept it alive and thriving, it's through us it evolved and it was we who kept the fandom open, diverse and inclusive for decades since every star wars fan was welcomed into our family. Disney destroyed all that and took pleasure in doing it.
Has she been fired!? Like honestly I hate her so much (and I’m a woman before anyone thinks I’m being misogynistic) but just for one the nature of how she came up in the biz…she has no business really being this powerful….and her heading Disney shows. The only reason why Disney + is successful is for brand recognition of marvel and Star Wars…but Disney’s own creative ventures are failures and wouldn’t survive without the rest of its vast catalogue.
@MIM women can be misogynistic absolutely, but saying you don't like a particular woman is not misogynistic. Saying you don't like her BECAUSE she is a woman would be misogynistic. Don't let random ppl call you misogynistic when you're not, it redefines the meaning to make it useless.

There were countless but I always need to point out…he ruined hyperspace…how can hyperspace be weaponized? Hyperspace being weaponized is the absolute dumbest thing imaginable in Star Wars…the guy didn’t care at all about Star Wars.
Im really hoping in Ahsoka, she goes to the world between worlds, and looks in a different timeline and see's rise of Skywalker. Thats how it can remain. And Disney could sink the brand and the next day release an heir to the empire adaptation and make a trillion $
I saw a theory that the events in the sequal trilogy, was a result of Ezra not being able to save Ahsoka from Vader. And him Saving her through the world between worlds, cleaned the slate clean
@@Perfectcrime87 Deepfake is beginning to get seriously good, and there are actors and actresses out there that can provide a very convincing lookalike!
Well not really ALL the time. The way the financial calendar works is in quarters. That's why they wanted to shove out this sequel trilogy by the end of each quarter, to get in those financial gains before the end to report to their investors. A quarter is a three-month period on a company's financial calendar that acts as a basis for periodic financial reports and the paying of dividends. The quarters go like this: January, February, and March (Q1) April, May, and June (Q2) July, August, and September (Q3) October, November, and December (Q4) Notice how all the star wars movies released around the same time? Christmas. BIIIIIIIIIIIIG moneys time for movies. Getting those moneys in by Q4 would set the company up for a good next quarter. But the PROBLEM with that timeframe which is what MCU is struggling with, is that it doesn't give writers the time needed to bang out a really good story. Movies and tv shows every couple months, or yearly vs every couple years is not a good model.
@@ribottostudio They were fairly rushed but would’ve been a LOT easier if they kept the same director and had a story outline for all 3 movies from the beginning
They could've still rushed it but kept Lucas' outline and they still would've been a thousand times better. They literally threw out the outline for star wars.
@@Jjj-zz7bz I agree... what really hits home for my general disappointment is the lack of a coherent plan and plotlines that continue through all 3 films.
@@Jjj-zz7bz Right they needed to plan. They could still have promised investors yearly movies if they had a game plan. The fact that the OT exists as it does is astounding given George HAD no plan. Vader being Luke's father was a retcon, done kinda last minute there were all sorts of problems on set, and even some inconsistencies in the writing, but still you can tell the story has A PURPOSE. The PT as bad as they are have a PURPOSE. With the ST there's no real PURPOSE. Disney Lucasfilm needs to understand the basics of screenwriting before getting back to film with Star Wars: goals stakes and urgency. What is the story about and WHY should we care? Nail those you're good.
I loved the original EU and was heartbroken and confused when it was axed. I get they couldn't adapt every book and wanted something original but why lose all of it entirely? Such a missed opportunity. Thank you for the video and wise words.
Same, I read over 100 of those novels and the stories were amazing and the Yuzhan Vong books would have been perfect for epsiodes 7, 8, and 9 ....sigh could have gone forward with Jacen and Jaina solo and Ben Skywalker for the next 3 movies after that
Great video and great points! The one thing I would disagree with is that part of the reason Solo failed was being released 5 months after the divisive TLJ. That movie was pushed back from May to December, and Solo should have been, too. General audiences were so turned off by TLJ that they didn’t want to see another SW movie so soon.
My friend... So much respect for you using your platform to speak the truth and call out all the BS that Disney has wrought upon our beloved SW franchise. Hoping someone that has influence in Disney sees this and absorbs it. You speak for us true fans, literally echoing what most of us know to be true in our hearts.
So long as KK is in charge nothing will change only get worse. Put John in charge he has a track record of making good shows and fan favorite characters.
Kathleen has too much of an ego to let Dave take the reigns for future Star Wars projects. If she did, everyone would clearly see how F'ed up Kathleen had screwed up George's stories.
BRO, why do ppl think so small, just like Trump/Biden. They are BOTH SURROUNDED BY AN ARMY OF ADVISORS. Did America get better when Trump left, or did ppl JUST stop complaining, did they even STOP, or complain less, and nothing really changes much, ppl still hate everything, (more then film i mean) and everyone. This is obviously a hyperbolic take, but tell me im 100% wrong. Why in the world, would an aging Dave, be any better... his trash cartoon show? More over, in case nobody has seen the OG trilogy, and the prequels. When George created STAR WARS PART IV. HE said "they were his babies..." You dont leave the directors chair, and hire a better director... then DONT hire him backfor your finale of small furry creatures, bc u overextened your budget and now there isnt money for the wookie war, which prob wouldnt have made the world cring, when midgets in fursuits killed armored troopers with a rock... THEN the "special" cashgrabs, i mean editions, when anybody i know, that like Lucas in any creative capacity, dropped that noise quick. HE committed the ultimate sin, by going back and CHANGING ESTABLISHED LORE on the biggest IP on the planet, thus any mention of changed lore in million books, games, etc... Well, obviously the rumors were true (sound familiar), and LUCAS is an out of touch madman. Remember DAVE studied under this HERO of film. mmmK... then its time to just GO STRAIGHT RERE.. Jar Jar, kill the ONLY interesting character in a 20 year wait!?, 60's dinner in SW?, POETRY, SAND, CHILD ACTORS, BAD ACTORS!, died of... SADNESS!!!, CGI worse than DISNEY, NOOOoooooo.... need I say more. Lucas is trash, KK and Rian are straight up, ON THE SPECTRUM, lol, LESS than trash, John and David are both the gum on the shoe of the OG trashmaster, and look, now we have a bunch of sad ppl that cant except star war is 90% mid, with a GREAT second film, a few banger games, and out of 100s, Shadows and the entire OG Thrawn series was good when i read it a while ago. SO, let the past die... that bitch done been dead a loooong time, lol. Luckily for anybody that read this, now u know. It was over before it started with Disney. Now unsub to all the dumb shit, and go live a SW free life. (The new game might be ok, we are finally where we were like 20 fking years ago, and have dismemberment, AND a story. Without that, well I saw EP IV, and a bloody severed arm... so did lightsabers get weaker, or did ppl get greedier?)
A 4 billion dollar franchise, without a theatrical release in 3 years, reduced to live action television series. How KK & Co. hasn't been fired off the face of the earth is something my brain can't seem to process
I think it’s good that they haven’t released any movie for a while, they want to have a break from the big screen exactly like how George did between the originals and the prequels
I really don't get it. I understand money now is worth more than the same money later due to accruing interest, but I feel like the behavior of publicly traded corporations these days just doesn't make sense. Why do these companies struggle so much to see more than one fiscal quarter into the future??
So many reasons to be upset about the sequel tragedy, but for me the main one was 30 year wasted opportunity to unite everyone one last time! That would have been epic! Topping it off with how they treated these legacy characters. That's where I just give myself a mental lobotomy and forget the whole sequel tragedy even happened. According to my journal that is. Must have been a stinker. /wink
It's honestly heartbreaking. It was for me, at least and it only got so, so much worse when Mrs. Fisher passed. =/ Her passing isn't on anyone at Disney (I hope) but it's still just so... Well, yeah. Everyone's said it by now so I suppose I can end it here.
@@nialllappin4159 Because what we got from the sequel trilogy was so much better. Fan service is fine if done in a way that works for the story. Lots of ways could have worked very well to do so. The opportunity was missed to do so.
I wish you would have mentioned Timothy Zahn as part of people who get it right. His sequel trilogy was in the correct spirit, had awesome twists and turns. To the point where there are several of his creations within the universe that are now part of Filoni's canon :)
I feel like we can throw James Luceno, Cavan Scott, Claudia Gray, and a few other authors into that list of people who just dive into the material and understand the world.
I was fully expecting TotJ to be just another entry into Disney's failure portfolio, but the writing is gorgeous. I was actually in tears at one point because of how deeply the short story affected me, and how well they stayed true to clone wars canon.
@@Hayden_Coyne I didn't like the first episode but every other one was absolutely great. It was incredibly well done and added great layers to the universe. I agree that the Dooku episodes were especially awesome.
The biggest problem was KK's first priority was to deconstruct the male legacy characters and reform the SW universe as her own. She wanted to kill George's legacy. all problems stem from that.
OMG THANK YOU!!! You’ve said in this video what I’ve been telling my friends and family who like Star Wars. I feel like they’ve undermined and disregarded the fans who’ve been around since before the sequel trilogy and have been catering to the new fans who may or may not know better in terms of what Star Wars means to American culture. Star Wars is a huge part of who I am. I grew up with the prequel trilogy, my dad introduced me to Star Wars with the original trilogy and since I was about 5-6 years old I have fallen in love with the franchise over and over again. Watching the original 6 films repeatedly actually meant something to me like I’m sure it’s meant something to all the other fans. To see Disney do what they did to our beloved Star Wars is heartbreaking and I hope they get their act together ASAP
"No infighting; we're not the Sith." Just this last simple, decent comment nearly made me tear up. This fandom has been through so much crap due to atrocious mismanagement and malicious pride of the "creative team" of KK. In contrast, your common decency is a wonderful sight to behold. The fact that THEY don't get it is just SO sad on SO many levels.
100% agree. Hand it all over to Dave Filoni. We need to rally behind his content to show Disney's pocket's that this is the way, since money is the only thing they understand sadly.
Star Wars is now officially KK's platform to realize her fantasy. Rey (KK) will gloriously rebuild the Jedi order that will be her legacy now, completely negating all of Luke's (George) accomplishments who is now a complete, cynical failure. Everything Luke should have been, will now be Rey.
For female characters there are so many amazing and well written characters. Ahsoka, Leía, Ventress, Mara Jade etc all have great stories so saying Rey sucks in comparison is just true like you said. I really hope they put Filoni in charge of everything because I have no faith in anyone else at Disney to write about the Force. Rogue One, Mandalorian and Andor have all been amazing in my opinion. But Disney has tried to show Force powers and apart from Tales of the Jedi it has just looked bad or been ridiculously overpowered.
i dont want faloni in charge. he has a history in the clone wars to disregard canon and lore to fit the stories HE wants to tell.. we all love the maul story arc in clone wars BUT it shouldnt of happened. him surviving the way he did breaks the arc. best example is ahsoka in rebels! because she is a beloved character he wanted to save her or disney wanted it either way he wrote it (or he represents it) and is responsible for it... he brought time travel.... TIME....TRAVEL.... into star wars... then proceeded to use a few throw away lines to try and plug up the massive plot holes this creates... like how the sequel trilogy books tried to plug the plot holes the holdo maneuver created. faloni is the best thing LA has atm, but his work is heavily flawed in many other ways, and i dont think he is the best person to put in charge. he has also stated he hates that he has to constrain his stories to the canon/lore and it shows in the clone wars.
@@NickPotatoes no clue who should be in charge. Faloni is the best that they have and his writing is very troubling when it comes to how he plays fast and lose with the lore like he did in clone wars. He would be leagues better than Kathleen but his way of telling stories is just as bad in very different ways. Time travel in star wars was when he completely lost me... The MCU did it and I had a problem with how they did it on screen. I barely give star trek a pass on it but barely.
Even if you don’t hate Rey, you literally can’t say that she is bland asf and literally B O R I N G asf compared to any of the female characters you named…
I almost cried listening to you saying what I thought for so long. There was a expanded Universe with so many stories and some of the most interesting characters I've met in most of the books I've read. It just feels ripping to know a Canon and suddenly being told it's not Canon, that is something else and that they are replaced with goofy senseless stuff. All I dreamed of was to see on film some of the stories I already knew, and going to the movie theater at least 5 times like I used to, and buy the books, comics, compendiums, toys, their different versions of their films, playing their video games and feeling like investment to spend on Star Wars products, but now that the franchise is rather "Stars Worse" I only spent on a couple of tickets to watch Episode 7 and 8 since then I haven't even had the mood to buy anything to try to complete my collection... I mean... When it was Canon, I had the urge to have everything there was, but now, knowing the stories I spent so many hours loving are not to be respected and continued, I lack any need to get anything, or read, or spend time on it at all. I used to loose my mind whenever I saw something new that continued the story I knew, I got all excited and expected the time to enjoy such and such... I don't have anything else in the world that created that same expectation, there's nothing else for me. They destroyed my heart and now I know I'm not alone in a sense.
You arent alone!!! Im STILL SO PISSED that the EU was thrown aside in favor of their garbage. I spents years and so much money on comics, books, and video games, just for them to all be thrown out? In my opinion, if George Lucas Approved the EU during his time owning Star Wars, then that makes it far more canon than anything Disney tries to say is.
The EU was amazing....and they took that from us. Incredible story telling that was completely Star Wars with the characters behaving the way George Lucad envisioned. I wanted Mara Jade Skywalker on the big screen. I wanted to see some of the EU and now they ruined the opportunity to bring fan favorites in.
Honestly if they wanted to milk money from Star Wars franchise I’m surprised they haven’t created a Vader trilogy. Just tapping into what he went through between episode 3 and 4. Now that would bang if done correctly
I also have a feeling that, going along with what you said about George’s idea for the sequel trilogy, Dave faloni is probably trying to steer Star Wars back to George’s original sequel trilogy, by utilizing the world between worlds concept and using Ashoka as a key element to creating the alternate timeline needed tho erase the sequels and give us the sequels that both the legacy of the franchise, and devoted fans like us, deserve.
@@foltzinator5501 yeah and we should give Palpatine the finger, because having him as the true ultimate evil is fucking horse shit. He’s just an old man who tases things.
I thought of that as well. I would think Disney would go with that but they spent a billion dollars on Galaxies Edge at their parks. It’s a bad financial move to backtrack so soon but who knows maybe in the future right.
All they have to do to fix this huge mistake: apologize sincerely to the fans. And make a new movie showing that the sequel trilogy was just a bad dream that Luke had during meditation.
@@rjayshaun Thats a horrible idea, because that would still mean you have to acknowledge the sequels at all. Just say it wasn't canon like whats done with every other mistake.
Yes, to everything you said. So tired of being told I’m toxic by the current owners of a franchise I have spent way too many hours of my life on and spent more money than I feel comfortable saying on. I was born the year after the first movie premiered, and went to see Empire and Jedi in the theater with my Dad, in turn I got to take him to see the prequels as an adult with my own children. I’m not toxic, I just love this franchise and don’t want to see it be handled this way.
KENNEDY NEEDS TO BE FIRED, PUBLICLY HUMILIATED. She had nothing to do with the success of any film shoes involved with. She married into royalty basically she married Frank Marshall and then had access to Spielberg and Lucas. She was a runner at best she got coffee and said yes sir no sir invited her time. She wants nothing more than to destroy Lucas film and she's doing a damn good job she needs to be fired she has nothing to offer she never has. She is just pure evil. I'm not joking.
I can't believe it's been 10 years already since Papa George signed away his baby to Disney. That was the greatest mistake in the history of cinema like George Lucas thought Disney would honor his work at that time and also never forget that Kathleen is an executive producer for Indiana Jones 5.
Who's going to turn down over $4 billion? That's security for himself and his entire family for generations to come so as much as I dislike it I can also understand why and respect it.
@@HyperXsoduK He didn't do it for the money. It was a combination of getting a very demanding and critical following and the burden of being responsible for the lives of too many employees and their families. He wasn't free to take risks anymore knowing that big box office failures could potentially take too many of his employees.
He was backstabbed by Kathleen who he thought was on his side and would speak up for his vision, but instead she saw an opportunity to promote herself and raise her own stock. Thus her tossing aside any advice and story recommendations Lucas had on where the franchise would go, and instead throwing self-insert Mary Sues into Disney Star Wars productions (ever wonder why Rey, Jyn, and Qi'ra are all brunette british actresses? because they are Kathleen's self inserts in the franchise).
During the pre release hype of TFA I remember seeing KK talk about the “Chewie we’re home” shot from the trailer and she said “we were shocked at how big of a response that got.” Just how out of touch can you be?
It's basically on the same level as Hasbro being shocked that kids were actrually traumatized when they killed off Optimus Prime in the animated Transformers movie. There was no real understanding of the core audience.
I remember that and the talk about how the crew was in awe while filming that scene....How could they not have known how important these characters were to people.
I remember getting nerve tingles from that moment. Literal joy. Imagine if they actually got a scene with all the core cast together before Carrie Fisher passed away...
I love how honest you are about the sequels. It could have been so much more. I don't care so much about fan-service. First and foremost, the writing needs to be good and needs to tell a story worth seeing.
"Your breaking my heart Disney. You're going down a path I can't follow". Pretty sums up how I feel about SW since Disney's acquiring of this beautiful, once prosperous franchise.
I can’t agree with you more!! I’ve been a SW fan since 1977, when I was 25! It broke my heart when they made Luke into a dismal hermit. I continue trying to find my way through the SWU, though, and always will.
@@BrettPlank oh yes, a very rich arc full of stuff that doesn't make sense for the character as we know him. Luke Skywalker. The hero who managed to defeat evil because he never gave up hope that he could make his father see the light again, in full knowledge of that he had been a evil tyrannical space warlord for 25 years . And we're supposed to believe that this dude desided that "maby I should kill my nephew who I've partly raised just in case he becomes evil ..." how does this make sense man?
Andor has instilled a decent amount of good will towards Disney Star Wars from me personally, but if they let Filoni and Favreau do their thing, and then green-light more Tony Gilroy-written content (I think an Old Republic project involving the Sith and Jedi by him would be incredible), then they’ll have won my trust back
I‘m 43 years old. I‘m into Star Wars since I’m 6 years old too. The Disney+ shows - with the exception of Andor and the first two Mandalorian Seasons - have been a huge disappointment. They are disappointingly mediocre. Especially when you see how much great shows are out there right now. The Last of Us, Fallout, House of Dragon, The Continental, Shogun, 3 Body Problem… heck… even Star Trek turned it around recently with Picard‘s third season and Strange New Worlds. Star Wars NEEDS to be great again.
I hadnt realized George had such a DIFFERENT path for the SWU. And frankly that would have been a stunning turn, and I bet he would have produced much better products than the crap we got. His legacy deserves better than what they did at Disney, and are still trying to do. Disney+ is indeed getting some of this VERY right. Disney needs to learn those lessons. Good writing CAN be done, even in very small patches. TOTJ is only 10-15 min episodes and S1 was FANTASTIC and you felt the heart and love put in by people who know and care about the lore. More of that. Less of Disney.
@Reservoir Frogs Georges would have been better as he at least would have been building on what he already created. The mess that was the sequels was disorganized and awfully written. Note I did not say Lucas' work would be PERFECT as he had issues all his own with the prequels. But better than Disney's work on the sequels, absolutely yes. I would have loved to see his take on Mauls revival.
I have been a massive Star Wars fan since I was 6-7 years old myself and have been for almost three decades. The only movies I had back in the 90s growing up were the original movies themselves until the Phantom Menace came out. I would literally check out books at the library, buy books at the store and anytime I could get my hands on anything Star Wars, I would without hesitation. Even the Star Wars specials like the ridiculous Ewok movie I still watched with excitement cause it was still Star Wars. This has been literally the most important film in my entire life. Even when I got married, after our I do's, my wife and I literally walked down to the Throne Room theme. Nowadays however, I can no longer subject myself to Disney's "version" of Star Wars. It's not Star Wars to me. It's not the story I fell in love with so long ago that kept me up at night in wonder. It's now a soulless, mindless shell of what it once was and has been getting worse and worse by the year like a progressive disease. The worst thing about all of this was Disney could have saved Star Wars. How? 1. Firing Kathleen Kennedy How or why this woman has so much control and power is beyond me. Does she have dirt on the executives? Does she have a weapon pointed at their heads? This woman willingly participated in the destruction of a $4 billion dollar investment and she doesn't get fired? Baffling! The absolute dumbest thing she of course said was that there was no source material for Star Wars, ignoring the decades of material from books, comic books and video games all with better stories, better writing and better characters. 2. Decanonizing the "Sequel Trilogy" aka the Disney Trilogy These movies should have never been made. Plain and simple. Even when they bought Lucasfilm, I called that Disney would screw it up cause I had seen what kind of mediocre content they produce. (Keep in mind at this time, the MCU was still fresh and was still a whole separate entity from Disney itself.) I actually did get excited for the Force Awakens but seeing the Last Jedi was truly the final straw for me. Watching Disney completely obliterate the character development that had been going on since before my time and during my father's time while hyping up useless characters with absolutely no real upbringing was like receiving a slap in the face while getting spit on at the same time. Best thing they could have done is be officially done with those movies, split them off into their own separate "universe" and called it a day while starting over with stories from the EU. 3. Apologize to the Fans A simple apology could have gone a long way but instead Disney decided to truck onwards with attacking the fans and as G4 just found out, that never works out and is never profitable. At this point, modern day Star Wars is dead to me. The only things that matter now are everything that existed before Disney dug in it's filthy pitchfork. Congratulations Disney. You had me go from treating it like a massive event that I feel honored and privileged to see to completely avoiding it like an actual plague. Well done.
@@SDfan2002 I hear you, people HATED the prequels. I loved them. Why? Because I grew up with them. Young anakin, the politics, the mindless, soulless droids and clones. It’s what I grew up with. Then again, people swear by the show, but I absolutely, completely, irrevocably HATE and will forever hate the Clone Wars show, the universe building is alright but the fact that they try to humanize the clones is the worst decision they ever made, even if it’s the stupid Jedi doing their ‘Jedi are in a way encouraged to love’ thing. The animation sucks IMO, they ruined so many LEGO sets with those stupid looking bulbous minifigs, and the entire plot line is all “hurrr evil gets humiliated yet again because...umm...evil never wins.” Small wins here and there do not count. Clone wars series sucks, and that’s my main point: I didn’t grow up with it! Look to each their own, I hated the sequels at first, but have grown to find them not bad. Definitely worse than the Clone Wars show on so many levels, but still lacking that...Star Wars space western with samurai feel that Lucas always said he was going for.
@@MattNeufy “Those words. Is it possible to use them together in a sentence?” I LOVED the Clone Wars and how good it was just made me bummed the prequels wasted all that potential Also I didn’t grow up with Star Wars period. Well said. I could have wrote those elegant words. Have you seen The Clone Wars? I had to get over that they are cartoons but the stories are great. I liked Rouge One and some other stuff they did but movies were terrible.
I would add one point to your comments, that younger people might not understand. Until the remakes came out on VHS, decades later, we didn't ever get to actually see Star Wars, aside from in the theater when it was released. It wasn't in the video store. It wasn't on HBO. It wasn't able to be viewed, in any way, with one exception: If you had an old time large disc laser disc player, it was available on those. But that technology never took off. (CDs the size of records).
Imagine if the only live action so far was Rogue One, Mandalorian and Andor.. and the whole time they were thoughtfully developing a new yet to be released trilogy. I think Disney wanted to cash in on the original cast while they still could. 🤦♂️
Thing is. It could still be that way. All Disney has to do is admit they didn’t deliver quality products, shelve them, and start fresh. There is no rule stating that you get no do-overs in Cinema.
You just came up with an effective scheduling strategy in order to both make money off a beloved IP AND release an ambitious sequel trilogy to said IP. Kennedy got paid millions and she still couldn’t come up with this.
Didn't like Solo? Compared to the sequel movies I'd definitely say it was a far better movie, I just rewatched it the other day and loved it for the most part. Lando's droid in kinda annoying though lol.
@@modernklassicsgaming5991 No, I enjoyed it. We can include it here. I excluded it because there’s a-lot of mixed reactions to it…. I mean, I actually liked The Last Jedi too. My problem with the sequel trilogy was lack of planning or originality. Rise of Skywalker was a mess.
I do agree with Kathleen Kennedy on one thing. If they had released Solo with a deep faked younger Ford, it would probably have done a lot better. Think about how ground breaking that would have been. It would have been huge. That being said, the primary reason Solo flopped was because TLJ sucked.
Kennedy admitting that she chose fan service over creativity and quality is the most honest and introspective i’ve ever seen her. What’s crazy to me is that no one else at lucasfilm thought that was a bad idea an pushed back until now. That combined with the improvement in storytelling and production being displayed in Andor makes me somewhat less cynical for what’s to come. Say what you will about the showrunner/ marketing, but I think it’s undeniable that Andor is the highest quality Disney SW project in a LOOOOONG time. Maybe the best from disney full stop.
to your first point: I don't think she knows what actual fan service is, and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Bad fan service: oh, there's that makeshift training ball that Luke & Obi-wan used on the Millennium Falcon! Bad fan service: Oh! There's Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba on Sand World! Neat! You and I could both give more examples. The GOOD fan service they could and SHOULD have provided was having Luke, Han, and Leia sharing scenes, furthering their story, and passing the saber to the new characters--who, at first--showed great promise until Rian Johnson severed any story/character development threads. And I still haven't given Andor a shot, simply because I'm tired of prequel storytelling (spoiler, none of it matters because he dies in the end. Not EVERY character needs his/her backstory fleshed out *cough*Han Solo*cough*), and I'm so distrusting of Disney with this hallowed franchise, that I almost feel sick considering giving them another shot. But, maybe I'll acquiesce and give it a chance this weekend.
@@briansolo honestly, Andor is a breath of fresh air. I think you would be impressed with the way it presents itself. Easily the best Star Wars we've had since Disney.
@@tonyOn1ce Agreed man, it feels like the only Live action SW from disney that has genuine artistry and care behind it, god forbid. It feels like it wants to be more than a Merchandise Ad.
@@briansolo I agree with your first point entirely, and I appreciate you making that distinction. Kennedy’s interpretation of the phrase is more what I intended to criticize, as most of the star wars content she has produced relies on “key jangling” and the like. My go to example will be luke’s reveal in mando s2. On the surface I can understand the decision to have an action scene with luke and have him meet our main cast, but the surface level is the ONLY merit it has creatively. There is no interesting conversations between the main characters and luke, despite the obvious conflicts of Ideology a lot of them have with luke, and Luke’s dialogue itself is full of platitudes and obvious references. It feels akin to wonder woman from justice league (either film) where she will actively do something insane and scary to then turn around and say “you can be whatever you want to be” as if everyone inside and outside the films world doesn’t know she is an all powerful god person. Fan service is great IF it’s narratively and intellectually consistent. But lucasfilm, marvel, WB, etc are banking on nostalgia points instead of creating compelling projects. As for Andor, I won’t be recommending it to anyone until it’s over. I don’t want to give the wrong impression with my earlier statement, but to make it exceedingly clear here: ANDOR IS FINE. I’d probably award what i’ve seen so far a 5.5 out of 10. What I’m hoping to highlight here is not that this is the highest bar of storytelling or production we’ve ever seen from the franchise, but with most Disney productions scoring around the 1-2 out of 10 zone, I think average is a monumental improvement. Lastly, I want to say I absolutely understand the apprehension you have with Andor, but I would like to temper it a bit with something of a prompt before you make your final choice to watch it or not. Particularly, I want to address the arguments of “it doesn’t matter because we know he’s going to die” and “not every character needs flesh on their backstory.” First, I want to be clear that these are valid reads, and I don’t want to come across as contrarian for its own sake. I would just ask this as a follow up to those statements: If, hypothetically, the writing for a character’s prequel outing is so strong that it Improves that character drastically in their other appearances, is it not worthwhile to tell that story? To be more specific, would you care more about Andor’s death in rogue one if you were heavily invested in that character before the events of the film? Food for thought, and I hope it helps to inform your decision later.

They can still ‘retcon’ the sequels by doing something with the world between worlds so Asoka being alive gives Luke guidance to help train Ben something like that
Y'know, I think thats one of my biggest problems with Disney Star Wars - no follow through/payoffs on set ups. The World Between Worlds was set up in Rebels back in, what, 2015 or so? And all of Star Wars is supposed to be a shared universe. ...Or at least something like it since theyre treating it like the MCU. Why havent we seen the World Between Worlds in a live action movie? Luke's new Jedi school in its prime? The full inner-working system of the New Republic? Where's Ezra and Thrawn? And the list goes on and on. I dont know, I think I just like having answers and payoffs to the stories that are being told, even if theyre purposely left ambiguous. But this is borderline negligent in terms of storytelling. Or maybe I'm just really mean. Who knows?
@@kamjones3522 I'll be honest, having the world between worlds in live action would cause a lot of problems. The prequels were anything but tragedy. They were a masterpiece way ahead of it’s time. It took the sequels being massively crappy to acknowledge that call was incorrect. History is full of corrections. This is no different.
Those cassette recordings are still online if anyone wants to hear them. Mark Hamill plays himself along with others. The long versions are great to fall asleep to. Listen to them over a period of time - it fills in a lot of questions with answers you may have never considered otherwise. My childhood was all Star Wars. And my young adult mirrored Anakins mistakes and subsequent deliverance from evil.
@@marty3801 The prequels have plenty of faults. I wouldn't call them masterpieces. A true masterpiece is the original trilogy. What the prequel trilogy does alot better than the sequel trilogy is tell a story. Properly, from the beginning of ep 1 till the end of ep3 is tell a full and complete story. They also honoured legacy characters like Obi Wan and Anakin whereas the sequel trilogy broke Luke Skywalker and just made Han Solo regress to the character he was in the beginning of ep4. For what? A reaction from fans. We just wanted those iconic characters honoured. Even if they were sacrificed, make those sacrifices matter. Not Han's suicide or Luke's death by force Skype. All this said, I didn't mind the sequel trilogy but it's not true Star Wars by any stretch.

Humbleness is a rare quality amongst Disney executives
I agree. If only the sequels had more creative control like the other two trilogies did. As much as I want to hate the sequels, I can’t. I can’t be mad at the actors for this, nor the writers. The worst part of this sequel trilogy is how it squandered Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill. We never got to see them re united and now we never will.
Don't forget Billy Dee Williams
And they failed to use chewy, R2 and Ackbar. They failed the size and scope of the galaxy. The other star wars films made you feel like there was a bigger universe out there.

Absolutely, a total no brainer. And chewie past over for a grief scene. Ridiculous

What complete folly! Kathleen Kennedy is an astonishingly incompetent executive.
Yeah, some great examples would also be that new HBO Max Velma show and the rings of power.

I won’t give anymore of my life to this franchise.”
It was my LOVE of Star Wars I wanted to share with my friend.
Man, at 9?? That’s exactly how I felt at episode 8! Lol
“Fan service” is their way of passing the blame onto the “fans” and absolving themselves of their mistakes. She’s not talking to the fans, but to the board.
I agree with you. It's another way of saying "but we did all that FOR YOU!!!". Just awful.
EU? Filoni? Lucas? Pssht! Disney Star Wars had the original creative imagination of JJ Abrams and Social Justice!
Isn't the antagonist in Lucas' sequel trilogy supposed to be Maul? In which case, it'd be too late for that sadly.
That would be awesome. But it’ll never happen. Disney can’t see anything but $$$. They won’t share it with Lucas if they can keep releasing garbage and getting billion dollar returns.

But you're also a voice of reason - encouraging fans to fully express themselves about the handling of the STORY, while remaining respectful to EACH OTHER. That might be the thing I appreciate most of all about this channel.
Keep on lighting the way, SWT.
hell yes!
You can't preface a rant like this with 'have some respect...' then proceed to gatekeep and twist things like the director of Andor isn't a Star Wars fan therefore shouldn't be making Star Wars. Despite it being fantastic.
Kennedy says “fan service” (should read “customer service”) was to blame. What fan service? Slapping fans in the face? These people are out of touch.
What kind of fan service is ridiculing fans for getting emotional about characters they absolutely love. Makes absolutely no sense

"At least we've got Dave Filoni." I've never heard something so relatable to the Star Wars fandom in my entire life.

We had hope, and Filoni killed it.
My dad shares the same thoughts as you. Me and my big brother are big prequel fans, but the sequels never brought us together like Star Wars used to.
I took my son to see TFA when he was 3 years old. I don't know if he really understood what he was watching, but he's a smart kid. I was 3 when the original Star Wars came out and no one took me to watch it so I wanted him to have that experience. Even though we have seen every Star Wars film, Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian, Boba, he never once wanted to rewatch any of the sequel films and I only own TFA. I couldn't bring myself to buy Episode 8 and 9.
@PryorTravis You at least got the shows and spin-off movies.
@@thechairman74 Yeah I would really dislike watching TFA again. Haven’t watched it since it was in theaters. Just a ANH ripoff. TLJ and a good bit of TROS though are a joy to watch for me. I rewatch em every now and again.
@@chewy99. Eww. If there was ever a definition of dumpster fire, you'd see a picture of all three covers of the Disney Sequels.
It is still unbelievable that Disney spend $4 billion and didn't bother to sit down and write out the 3 movies before they started.
why would they the plebs showed up anyway to give them money they had no need to think out anything they made.
Remember, Lucas gave Disney the outline for the sequels when they 1st bought Star Wars, they threw the outlines Lucas gave them in the trash.
So sad and pathetic honestly
I’m 48 and I’m fuming at what Disney had done to Star Wars.
I agree with everything you said.
There are some amazing novels they could have adapted, like the Bane Trilogy and Darth Plagueis.
Right?!
They KILLED the ENTIRE Skywalker bloodline... And had a Palpatine make a mockery of their heritage after they're all gone 🤬!
Kennedy Abrams and Johnson and whoever pull their strings should never touch another project again.
similar scene in star wars rebel show. when caleb died.. ...... i think thats his name.
100% with you, ST. Thanks for being such a voice for the fandom.
I love how 10 years ago it was the fans of the OT dunking on the PT, then the ST comes out and both OT and PT fans mutually agree that maybe the PT wasn’t so bad after all.
It’s a cycle of hate
As kid who grew up when the PT came out and always defended it it’s pretty funny, but let’s not forget PT did get heavily padded by the masterpiece of clone wars and the adjacent shows.
this is true. the PT did receive hate. If you listen closely, the portrayal of Anakin is still getting dunked on til this day. People say Clone Wars Anakin is their definitive Anakin, not the one George directed.
also PT became better after clone wars series
Hahaha as an OT fan this is 100% true. Except I liked the PT, it was just a tad dark.
Growing up, I always watched the original franchise with my dad. 90s baby here, but my dad LOVED the original films, sadly he passed in 2012 so he never got to see the disney sequels. Knowing him, I really don't think he would've enjoyed them, maybe for the amazing visual effects/cgi, etc. Other than that, I think something that was so special to him would've been ruined in my opinion, hopefully Ahsoka will be a step in the right direction.
*DFL
To be fair it did take a while for OT fans to accept PT fans, but I understand and agree with your point.

They literally had all the time to push a trilogy and they had no plan. It really is absolutely unbelieveable.
The quarters go like this:
January, February, and March (Q1)
April, May, and June (Q2)
July, August, and September (Q3)
October, November, and December (Q4)
Notice how all the star wars movies released around the same time?

The Disney Star Wars was never cannon to begin with. It was always a bad fan fiction. So stop letting Disney tell you what is and isn’t cannon.
The EU was also never canon though.

I agree I remember watching that episode and thinking Filoni just gave Disney the middle finger

@@foltzinator5501 yeah and we should give Palpatine the finger, because having him as the true ultimate evil is fucking horse shit. He’s just an old man who tases things.

Those sequels can NEVER be unmade as well as all the grbage disney+ There is no do over here. There are no second chances to make a good impresion.
All they have to do to fix this huge mistake: apologize sincerely to the fans. And make a new movie showing that the sequel trilogy was just a bad dream that Luke had during meditation.

It’s the best decision his made, lots of money, and his old movies sucked anyway
@@HyperXsoduK He didn't do it for the money. It was a combination of getting a very demanding and critical following and the burden of being responsible for the lives of too many employees and their families. He wasn't free to take risks anymore knowing that big box office failures could potentially take too many of his employees.
George already ruined Star Wars with the prequels and his involvement with Indy 4.

How?
1. Firing Kathleen Kennedy
How or why this woman has so much control and power is beyond me.
2. Decanonizing the "Sequel Trilogy" aka the Disney Trilogy
These movies should have never been made.
3. Apologize to the Fans
A simple apology could have gone a long way but instead Disney decided to truck onwards with attacking the fans and as G4 just found out, that never works out and is never profitable.
At this point, modern day Star Wars is dead to me. The only things that matter now are everything that existed before Disney dug in it's filthy pitchfork. Congratulations Disney. You had me go from treating it like a massive event that I feel honored and privileged to see to completely avoiding it like an actual plague. Well done.
“The only movies I had back in the 90s growing up were the original movies until Phantom Menace came out”

“Those words. Is it possible to use them together in a sentence?”
I LOVED the Clone Wars and how good it was just made me bummed the prequels wasted all that potential
Also I didn’t grow up with Star Wars period. It was pretty much all animated movies from Pixar and Dreamworks for my childhood.
Mando is meh but overall I agree. Solo is also great.
Fan service for the sequels would have been in line with the old EU

They can still ‘retcon’ the sequels by doing something with the world between worlds so Asoka being alive gives Luke guidance to help train Ben something like that
Best way to go is just forget about it and make standalone movies and series.
