I was definitely tempted by the Sigma 30mm/1.4 for my a6400. In the end I went with a second hand Sony 35mm 1.8 - which is a bit more compact and has OSS.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What of both lenses did you prefer. Is the difference between these two lenses big? I've got the Sony 35mm 1.8 and now struggle to send it back and get the Sigma one...
But this is not a actual 30mm when using the Sony Ev10 because of the cropped sensor, is that correct? I have the EV10 and am considering getting the 16mm F1.4 DC DN because my 50mm 1.8 is too zoomed in. And the 18-25mm 2.8 sigma lens not have the boca/ blurred background. I'd like to create more cinematic footage and think this 30mm 1.4 or the wide lens 1.4 may help me do that. Especially for interviews. But will the wide lens have a wrap to it since it is a wide lens? I'm trying to get something that will allow me to shoot in tight spaces. I think the wider lens is better because I can have the range and place the camera a little closer .. but not too close. Any advise? Thanks!
Hi Mark, the video you took outside when filming yourself, was that just natural sunlight or did you use an ND filter, or special lights when filming yourself? It looked beautiful.
Hey Mark! Thanks for a great review! These slo-mo scenes at the beginning - how exactly did you film them? Since SONY ZV-E10 doesn’t have 4K60, I wonder how you were able to look it so smooth
If you’re talking about the image stability, the ZV-E10 has a built in gyroscopic data recorder (note, this doesn’t work with every lens but I believe any lens that electrically interfaces with the camera this applies to) that you can import into Sony’s program, Catalyst Resolve, which will automatically stabilize the video. He’s also using a gimbal
How far away would I need to be with this lens in a studio podcast environment- considering getting a set of two of these with ZV-E10s? Concern is that I don't want them to be in any shot (typ 3cam setup), but also need them easily accessible. Thx.

the colours are very close. o would just choose whichever you need. if you are going to be close to the cars or shooting interior, use the 16. if you are shooting from a distance, the 30mm will be better
I have a Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8 that I use and punch into 50mm using the APSC mode. Seeing something with 1.4 with such fast autofocus for a fraction of the price hit close to that 50mm look seems like an absolute bargain by comparison. Sort of wish I did more research prior to buying the lens
Hey there. I was wondering which lense you recommend for vlogging food. Restaurant taste test and treet food vlogs etc. 16. 30. Or the kit lense? Or something else?. Really appreciate the reply!
The 18-50 2.8 by sigma might be my choice. Zoom in or out and it also focuses extremely closeup for those tasty shots. I did a whole video on the channel about it
Any downside to using the lens hood all the time? It likely saved my heavy Sony RX10M3 when my wife dropped it and cracked the lens hood. Camera seemed fine though.
I was just trying to decide between the 30 and 16 Sigma lenses. Leaning toward 30. Don’t really want to v-log but try product photography with bokeh or “toneh” as Casey says.

Hi I’m using the ZVe10 as well and debating between the Sigma 30mm and 16mm. For workout videos specifically which one do you recommend and why? I do want the bokeh background but I’m not sure if 30mm is too close being that I do mostly stable video since I have nobody to shoot for me. They both look great… I’m torn between the two.
the 30 will give you a more blurry, but you really need a lot of room to do workout videos. you’ll be able to keep the camera closer and still have a ode shot with the 16 (you’ll still get a really blurry background at 1.4. I would start with the 16

I have the sigma 16 mm. So lens, but waiting to buy the camera. GL regardless on your journey. I watch his vids as well.
Is this lens good for night time photography? I love how stunning the street photography is and I know the lower aperture is great in those situations but does the lack of stabilisation in both the camera and lens affect the quality that badly? (I want to buy the ZV E-10 too)
the lens is amazing for nighttime photography- one of the best choices about there. that 1.4 is a very bright aperture so it’s great in lowlight, lack of stabilization is not an issue generally. you just make sure your shutter speed doesn’t go too low.
I've purchased the ZV E-10 and have one more question about this lens! Do you feel you are too far away from the subject and you have to get close to get a good image? Also, does this lens work more like a 50mm? I've heard from other sources it does and may I ask why is that? Thank you :)@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
Mark, this was a helpful video. But, as I am new to looking at Sony lenses, I am still learning, and have zero prior experience with Sony cameras or lenses. Please give your opinion on which you think is better for portraits (so primarily used for still photos, very rarely for video if at all), on a Sony APSC camera (eg. A6500). I would buy a APSC body that has IBIS and Eye Focus. I appreciate the f1.4 of Sigma 30mm f1.4, but I also see there is a Sony 35mm f1.8 that does have OSS. If one likes to do natural light, hand-held photos (portraits etc,) then would the OSS on the Sony be preferable to the Sigma? Would there be other reasons to get the Sony instead of the Sigma? I checked prices today, and see the Sigma is $264 but I also found a Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Emount for $332. That is a $68 US difference. But, if the OSS on the Sony lens is very beneficial for this type of photography, it could be justified. I do not know if Lens OSS adds to the IBIS or conflicts or causes problems or if the camera defaults to one or if both is preferable. Please advise.
oss is helpful, but with ibis in the a6500, lens stabilization is less of an issue. The oss in the 35 will work with the ibis to create a slightly more stable image than ibis alone, but not much. the sony 35 is great, so you would probably be happy, but the only thing is that the 35 is a little wide for portraits. the 35 will give you a field of view of about 59mm in full frame terms. Most traditional portraits (head and shoulders type shots) are done with an 85mm equivalent so that would be a 56mm on the apsc cameras. But if you like the “50” look - then with the sony 35 or the sigma 30 would be a good choice. But you might as well do the 35 for that extra bit of stability
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you for your quick reply to my questions, and solid advice. I am going to watch many more of your videos. Keep up the good work. And thanks again for responding to questions in comments, as I have read every comment under each of your videos I have seen so far, and like what you wrote in your answers to others too. Very helpful.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your point on the Focal Length too. I would get the Sigma 56 you recommend for head and shoulders, but will also need to do some full length portraits too, or "environmental" type too, so the 30mm or 35mm was what I was considering for those shots where I need more wide FOV (or in tighter spaces). I would get both primes (56 + 35 or 30). The IBIS and/or OSS issue is my main concern, as I have not yet owned a camera body with IBIS (I have used Canon lenses with IS, which I like). I just don't know enough about how the IBIS and OSS may interact, in still photography, and I have not seen it mentioned when I read the Sony product pages for the lenses.
@@steadmanuhlich6734 yes, not a lot of people know how the IBIS and lens stability interact with sony. But basically if you use IBIS only, the sensor stabilization does all of the work. If you attach a stabilized lens, then the lens controls 2 parts - the “pitch” and the “yaw” and the IBIS does the rest. The IBIS plus OSS on Sony is only marginally better than IBIS alone. On cameras like Panasonic and Olympus, combining lens plus IBIS makes a big difference.
Hi Mark 😊 ! your videos have been very helpfull and i bought a Zve10 yesterday after watching your videos. I rented and used a Sony G-Master 35mm full frame lense on my Zv e10 yesterday and liked the frame and view i was getting out of it. Do i have to buy a Sigma 56mm Dc Dn lense to get approx the same view or a 30mm will do ? Because few people are saying that sigma 30mm dc dn is made for aspc/ crop sensor and it will only look or give shots equivilant to 30mm. can you please help me with this !! Thankyou
when using an APS-C camera - the full frame lenses look the same as the APS-C lenses. So if you want that 35mm GM look you had on the ZV-E10 - you can get the Sigma 30mm (close) or buy a 35mm Sony 1.8 APSC lens, or even buy a Sony 35mm 1.8 full frame. I personally would go with the Sigma 30mm because it is a f1.4 and a better price. All of these lenses attached to the ZV-E10 will be roughly the equivalent of a 50mm field of view on a full frame camera (including the 35 GM you tested) - hope that clears it up.
I bought the Sigma 30mm based on yours and other TH-camrs comments and I'm blown away by it in my studio (with me little Dougy)...Got the SAMYANG AF 12mm F2.0 Autofocus coming tomorrow from Amazonotron for outside VLOGging stuff. Thanks Marky Mark - you rock mate! 👍😀
If you use this lens with Sony a7iv in crop mode (45mm in full frame) would you still get f1.4 equivalent light or will it be same as a full frame 45 mm f1.8 /f2.1 equivalent light? Thanks for all your reviews.
you would still get the 1.4 of light - but in terms of depth of field (blurry background), it would be equivalent to 2.1. so you would get the field of view of a 45mm f2.1, but the light of a 1.4.

Honestly, I have a Sony ZV-E10 and I bought a 50mm from Sony. The only problem on my end is that the 50mm compresses too much (crop) so I was thinking if I should switch to the Sigma30mm, but the only problem is that the Sigma doesn’t have the OSS. Is anyone having the same doubt?
the oss isn’t available in most lenses these days. on photos, it’s fine - just make sure your shutterspeed doesn’t go too low. in video, you have digital stabilization
the 30mm will give you a blurrier background, but the 18-50 is a zoom that covers a lot more range. So you have to choose if you want one focal length that is sharp and good in lowlight, or a general purpose lens that you can use in many situations

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Cinematic video: I can't buy a gimbal, so if I skip the kit lens and only buy the Sigma lens, can Catalyst Browse stabilize my video?"
For the button drawback you can customize one of the buttons on your cam to AF/MF toggle. It is very useful for video especially.
yes - a great option
Amazing lens! Just ordered my ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm 1.4 following your other videos.
Great choice!!
I was definitely tempted by the Sigma 30mm/1.4 for my a6400. In the end I went with a second hand Sony 35mm 1.8 - which is a bit more compact and has OSS.
Also a great lens!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What of both lenses did you prefer. Is the difference between these two lenses big? I've got the Sony 35mm 1.8 and now struggle to send it back and get the Sigma one...
@@sickshots I’m curious too.. did you trade it?
Any advise? Thanks!
Do you think ZV E10 still woryh the buy in 2024?
Absolutely. Great image quality - great autofocus
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you so much🙏🏻
What system do ZV-E10 cameras use as opposed to APS-C that for instance Sony A6XXX use?
Hi Mark, the video you took outside when filming yourself, was that just natural sunlight or did you use an ND filter, or special lights when filming yourself? It looked beautiful.
I used an ant to get that low 1.4 aperture. it would have to be really shady out to not use and ND 👍
Thx.
Merhaba dostum. TH-camda araç bakım onarım videoları çekiyorum. Yeni zv e10 kamera aldım. Benim için hangi lensi önerirsin? Sigma 16 mm ile sigma 30 mm arasında kaldım. Sence hangisi daha parlak renklere sahip?
the colours are very close. o would just choose whichever you need. if you are going to be close to the cars or shooting interior, use the 16. if you are shooting from a distance, the 30mm will be better
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis teşekkürler. Kanalı takibe aldım. Ve beğendim.
Very tempting, I already have the lens but paired with a A6000.
Don’t worry you’ve got a great lens. there’s always something else out there, but at some point, you get one that works for you and don’t look back 👍

Great help! I’m in Mississauga…. that sounds like an apology. Sigma 30mm 1.4 vs 16mm 1.4 - which is best for YT interview/head shot?
the 16 is best if you re sitting close to the camera (say 4 feet). If you're camera is 10 feet away or so 0 the 30 would be better
Mark is a legend.
Hey Mark, can you test this 30mm against the new 23mm from Sigma?! Is the new one really worth another $200ish dollars?
nooooo where's tha "apple juice"??? I missed that in this video haha. great one man, thanks for sharing!

Any downside to using the lens hood all the time? It likely saved my heavy Sony RX10M3 when my wife dropped it and cracked the lens hood. Camera seemed fine though.
Nope - no downside at all except for size
I was just trying to decide between the 30 and 16 Sigma lenses. Leaning toward 30. Don’t really want to v-log but try product photography with bokeh or “toneh” as Casey says.
the 30 is great. Enjoy the Toneh
Hey mark i cant decide if I should buy the sigma 56mm or the 30mm. To use it as a hybrid for professional portrait fotos and team fotos. Which lens would you choose for these tasks?

the 56 is best for portraits. 👍

Better than the famous 16mm for youtube streaming (twitch)? What do you think? Thanks
the 30 is too tight for streaming unless you plan to put your camera across the room

I would start with the 16
This is odd lol. On a separate channel than this one I am replying, I am doing a fitness channel, but I am finishing my masters degree and overcame almost clinically dying twice to build back up to 300 lb bench press. I will be using the same set up as you lol. If we ever make it and want to collab, no joke or help each other out. I am just waiting for two months time to start for the camera body to buy. I have the sigma 16 mm. So lens, but waiting to buy the camera. GL regardless on your journey. I watch his vids as well.
Does the lens mount easily ? Does adapter needed ?
You are just stellar Brother! Love this video! You rock! ❤
Thanks, Andray!!
Is this video is recorded with sony zv e10 sigma 30mm 1.4 camera lense ?
Yes. The whole thing
Mark im going to buy the zve-10, would this be a 50mm equivalent on apsc?
it is a 45mm equivalent in terms of full frame. multiply all the focal length on any emount lens by 1.5 times to get the “full frame equivalent”
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you mark, have a good day ahead.
Better than kit lens for landscape?
Yes for sure. But usually people prefer wider for landscapes. Look at the Sigma 16mm 1.4
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis you're the best man!
I appreciate your experience with these cameras, lenses, and your POV about value and quality and ease of use. Your channel is now one of my favorites for camera related topics, because of your personality, honesty, very good tips, and humor (your comedy is clever and quick and witty and funny). I am shocked to see your channel is not already 100K subs, but I know you will get there if you continue to produce such good content as you have already.
Amazing how the 18-35mm in the zv e10 and did you know why they discontinued the production of zv e10 ?
Yes, chip shortages have disrupted many cameras, and unfortunately, the ZV-E10 is one
Hi Mark 😊 ! your videos have been very helpfull and i bought a Zve10 yesterday after watching your videos.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis oh thats wonderfull to know 😊😊🙏🏻. i appreciate your inputs Mark. Thanks a ton !!

If you use this lens with Sony a7iv in crop mode (45mm in full frame) would you still get f1.4 equivalent light or will it be same as a full frame 45 mm f1.8 /f2.1 equivalent light? Thanks for all your reviews.
you would still get the 1.4 of light - but in terms of depth of field (blurry background), it would be equivalent to 2.1. so you would get the field of view of a 45mm f2.1, but the light of a 1.4.

the 30mm will give you a blurrier background, but the 18-50 is a zoom that covers a lot more range. So you have to choose if you want one focal length that is sharp and good in lowlight, or a general purpose lens that you can use in many situations
