Hey, @otgcanada Yeah, it has less to do with opening the door while it's running and more to do with natural wear of the latch itself and the placement of the monitor switch versus the other 2 switches. Once the latch gets worne a little, just the natural vibration of the microwave can be enough to disconnect the monitor switch during operation causing it to trip the breaker. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
@@thelarewsdo This oven is brand new , about a week old now . Since I`ve been watching different TH-cam videos after closing the door I`ve been pushing all of the door in slightly and it seems to work . I will be returning it . Thanks for your help .
Well I have to say I'm very pleased with myself (60yo woman here) since this video is exactly what I was looking for. My microwave would trip the breaker as soon as I opened the door without even trying to do anything. I thought it was the fuse but after watching your video I knew it had to be the door monitor sensor so I removed it and it's working. Thank God for you and TH-cam videos. Of course I don't have magnetic screwdrivers but I managed to get out the screw anyway. So proud of myself.
The internet is a great thing! I was saving the same issue and googled “microwave tripping fuse” and found your video. Worked like a charm. Appreciate you putting this out there and the simplicity of your directions. All the best!

Thank you! After fighting with this microwave popping the internal fuse for years…disconnecting the 3rd safety switch seems to of corrected that problem too! Awesome!!
Excellent! Glad to help! Hopefully this winter I can put up another video showing a modification I'm working to make it even better. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel! Have a wonderful day!
Owe you a solid. Microwave crapped out on Thanksgiving morning making heating up those leftovers a real pain. This fix worked. Just need to buy a month until the new kitchen is installed and this will do it. Many thanks.
Hey! You're welcome. The microwave should still be good; the latch bracket just has wiggle in it and is causing it to trip a safety prematurely. I have intention of putting together another video to show a solid permanent fix, so ring the bell to get notifications. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Out of all the vids this is the best one to deal with this situation with a "temp" fix. Exact same issue with the middle switch causing the issue. Works for now but for safety reasons I'll still have to order the replacement of the switch I took out. But thanks for ur vid
Hey! Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad we were able to get you cookin'. When ordering parts, remember it's the switch holder that gets worn and has play in it. I would also replace the switch since it's been taking a beating. Thank you for watching and have a wonderful day!

I wish I could give this more thumbs up. Easy to understand, to the point, temporarily and permanent solutions. Perfect. Earned a thumbs up and a subscriber

Thank you so much for this videos. I had the exact issue with my microwave and i was ready to but new one. Luckily went on you tube and found your video. Thanks
Hey Scott! You're welcome. Glad to help! We hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🦃. Thank you for watching; please like and subscribe.
Thank you. That totally worked. The only problem is if the door is completely closed,It makes a hum and the only way to get rid of it is to leave the door slightly open
Hey, You're welcome. The hum could possibly mean that one of the other switches may be "welded" closed due to the previous issue. The other switches can be removed and carefully opened to verify if they are stuck or not. The side splits off revealing the internals. Sometimes if you're lucky a little coaxing can unstick the switch tips. Once they are unstuck put them back in and see if that resolves the hum. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
It worked! I opened the middle switch because that was the only one where the tab on top wasn't clicking and saw that the tips were stuck together, like you said. I used a small flathead and separated them. Put everything back together and connected the middle switch this time, and now everything works great! Can't imagine how many people would have bought a new microwave. Thanks again! There's another video that shows the guy opening the switches and showing you the difference between one welded together and not.
Thank you for your help. It worked for me. The only issue is that when i open the door, the fan turns on automatically, but that's not a big deal. Thank you very much
Hey! That's good to hear. The fan kicking on makes me pause... you're microwave may be slightly different. I'd recommend changing that bracket that each of the switches plugs into then hook the monitor back up. I'm hoping to put together a new video showing an additional modification to put it back to better than new with a different switch. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for putting me on the right track, the core problem is most likely yanking the door open while the microwave is running, the 2 safety contacts can’t handle and are not designed to take that kind of arcing.
Hey Barb! You're very welcome! We are hoping to add a follow-up video. If all goes well, it should improve upon the microwave's design, use all the safeties, cost less than $10, and be just as easy as the previous fix to implement. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Hey Mike, Our is still unhooked. 😉 I have a new video to make to show a quick fix that I'm working on that will put all the safeties back without the hassle . Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Yep. On mine, it seems as though the ramp that the hook contacts wears and allows the door to move just enough to cause issues. Hear after Christmas, if I get a new set of wire crimpers from Santa 🤞, I'm going to make a video showing how to fix it better than new without changing the latch.
Hey Wes, I think I've figured out a better alternative fix that I would like to get out there in a video, but ife has just been hitting me from all angles. For now, replacing the door latch that holds the switches will eliminate the play in the latch that is causing the monitor switch to prematurely activate. Please Like, subscribe, and click the notificatipn bell, my goal is to get the alternative repair video I mentioned up within the coming months. Have a wonderful day!
Exactly my issue except it had gone so far that with the door closed, just hitting start would trip the breaker. I resolved it even more simply. You can see the wear on the bottom latch face. I just cleaned it and put a tiny drop of hot glue on it and it works great again. No need for screw removal etc.
I did the temporary fix and could have sworn the microwave was buzzing/smelled slightly like smoke. I immediately turned everything off and put it back like it was. Repairman came out and told us we need to replace the clips/whatever it is that holds the hooks in place? Are those the pieces you replaced or something else?
I have the same problem but my house runs on a 4000 watt pure sine wave inverter . Some thing about the microwave oven that is brand new , that when it starts it trips the inverter . and the entire house goes down . I have cooked entire meals using my air fry toaster oven ( 1800 watts ) , hot plate ( 1000 watts ) , AC on low ( 580 watts ) , fridge ( 120 watts ) , freezer ( 120 watts ) , and the rest of the house that totaled 3375 watts all at the same time with no issues . It is just something about the start on the microwave that causes the inverter to trip and the rated watts for the microwave is only 1350 watts . So... the cure to this was to simply turn the power down on the microwave to 6 instead on 10 and it runs just fine . My oven is a Master Chef . I have even plugged the microwave strait into the inverter with nothing else plugged in and same thing . Hope this helps if you have the same problem .
My problem was a bug had crawled under the circuit board and eventually shorted it out on my GE over the oven unit. This is actually the second time it happened on this unit. This time it was cheaper to just buy a new unit rather the whole button/circuit board. to make sure it does not happen with the new unit I placed some metal screen over the vent area of the circuit board area.
Oh no! Not the typical "bug" you'd expect to find in a circuit. Bet you it won't have the guts to do that again! Kudos for good, Ole fashioned ingenuity. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this. Worked perfectly and took less than 5 minutes. No more trips to the breaker box. Is there any danger though with having the sensor disconnected?
Welcome 😀 I have a more permanent repair idea I'm working on (watch for future video), but we are still running ours just the way I had it in the video with no issues. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
You're welcome. Once the hooks on the door start wearing the latch down those issues start occurring. I'm glad you were able to get back up and running. A new latch (the piece that holds the switches) will be the ultimate fix. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Haha 💯! Yeah as long as you fight the urge to touch that door before the light goes out you're g2g. 💡💥😑 Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
I worked at this for a while trying to adjust the switches and replace the switches, and replace the plastic switch holders. After looking at the schematic for my Kenmore, what I did was replace the upper microswitch with an Omron SPDT switch where I could connect to the normally closed terminal (was clipped off on the factory switch). The microswitches are the Omron D3V "Miniature Basic Switch" for reference. On the upper switch, the factory wiring connects the normally open terminal to input AC Power, and the common connection connects to the magnetron already. What I did that was the modification was to connect the previously unconnected terminal from the upper switch to the connector for the lower magnetron discharge switch, on the leg not connected to the magnetron. The lower magnetron discharge microswitch is now not connected. So basically what I did was to use the upper switch for both functions required when the door opens (cut power and discharge the magnetron). The magnetron is (already) connected to the common terminal on the upper switch, and was already connected to power on the normally open terminal. I just connected the normally closed terminal to execute the same function that the lower magnetron discharge switch did. Same functionality, but now just on one switch rather than attempting to synchronize 2 separate mechanical switches to achieve the same functionality. I made the new connection by making a male to female spade lug jumper cable, so didn't have to cut any factory wires. Works great. No more breaker tripping and the unit turns off and grounds the magnetron when the door is opened while operating.
Hey! Good thinking! That solves both issues. No more microswitch that nuisance trips due to poor location; all while maintaining full functionality. I like that a alot. Switch selection is key... my monitor switch is a normally open and the other two are normally closed, so one wouldn't want to mix that up. The SPDT would work in my situation also. (D3V-16G-1C25-K) Again good thinking! Thank you for watching. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you so much i have same issue i saw your video and you safe my time and money. Please share the link where i have to order the part and please send me the video how to change the part thanks again. GOD BLESS you
If your issue is fixed by unhooking the monitor switch, like in our video, then the next video will show you. We'll be upgrading a switch. But to answer your question, the door latch that holds the three switches is normally what is worn and is causing the monitor switch to malfunction.
Hey thanks for the video. I have exact microwave. I removed the second switch because the button wasnt clicking. I pryed the plastic cover off to have a look and somehow it started clicking again. Put cover on and its been just fine. I ordered the 3 switches for 13 bucks just to have incase it starts happening again.
Hey, Great to hear! Yeah, the contact tips on the switch melt together due to the arcing cause by the short. Remember the problem is caused by the slack in the latch that activates the switches out of sync. Have a wonderful day. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Hey Tim, I recommend writing down your model number, most often located inside the door of the microwave, and then visiting www.partstown.com. They seem to be a pretty good resource for finding the part number you need. Next, shop around for the best price once you have the part number. I didn't post a direct link because I didn't want people with different microwave models assuming it was a universal part. Thank you for watching. Please like and subscribe to support the channel. Have a wonderful day.
Hey, On our particular microwave, there are two other safeties in the circuit. We have been using ours this way since the video was made. Once I have the time, I am hoping to make another video showing an improvement to put it back to better than factory. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!
Stop your microwave before opening the door. Problem solved. You are welcome.

Yeah, it has less to do with opening the door while it's running and more to do with natural wear of the latch itself and the placement of the monitor switch versus the other 2 switches.

How essential is it to replace to the monitor switch ? I disconnected it and micro wave works just fine.
Hey Mike,
Our is still unhooked. 😉 I have a new video to make to show a quick fix that I'm working on that will put all the safeties back without the hassle .

@ the part need replacing is not the hook but the
The door latch hook switch holder.?
Yep. On mine, it seems as though the ramp that the hook contacts wears and allows the door to move just enough to cause issues. Hear after Christmas, if I get a new set of wire crimpers from Santa 🤞, I'm going to make a video showing how to fix it better than new without changing the latch.
@@thelarewsdo thanks! And good luck
Thanks for the video!! It worked, but as far as a permanent fix, should I replace the monitor switch or the door latch first? Just curious
Hey Wes,
I think I've figured out a better alternative fix that I would like to get out there in a video, but ife has just been hitting me from all angles. For now, replacing the door latch that holds the switches will eliminate the play in the latch that is causing the monitor switch to prematurely activate.

Exactly my issue except it had gone so far that with the door closed, just hitting start would trip the breaker. I resolved it even more simply. You can see the wear on the bottom latch face. I just cleaned it and put a tiny drop of hot glue on it and it works great again. No need for screw removal etc.
It worked! Thank you for this video!

Hey,
Thanks for the tip!
Have a wonderful day!
Worked Perfectly! Thanks 🙏🏾 💪🏾

Thank you for this. Worked perfectly and took less than 5 minutes. No more trips to the breaker box. Is there any danger though with having the sensor disconnected?
Welcome 😀
I have a more permanent repair idea I'm working on (watch for future video), but we are still running ours just the way I had it in the video with no issues.

Thank you so much. You are a genius. How the hell did you figure that out.
My unit is built in more than most. So a big job to change.
Hey,
Thank you for your kind words! I'm happy to hear we were able to help you. 😊 Good job on working to find a solution!

Same exact thing on a general electric microwave. Thank you!
Hi Andrew Fisher!
Excellent! You're very welcome!

Thank you Sir! Mine Eventually would shut off and trip breaker the second I hit start. Thank you!
You're welcome. Once the hooks on the door start wearing the latch down those issues start occurring. I'm glad you were able to get back up and running. A new latch (the piece that holds the switches) will be the ultimate fix.

Thank you so much i have same issue i saw your video and you safe my time and money.

You're welcome. Like, subscribe and click the bell. I'm trying to get a free minute to put together another video showing an improved workaround.
I need 1 more question i need to replace door latch hook or door switch?
If your issue is fixed by unhooking the monitor switch, like in our video, then the next video will show you. We'll be upgrading a switch. But to answer your question, the door latch that holds the three switches is normally what is worn and is causing the monitor switch to malfunction.
@@thelarewsdo i just un plugged bottom one and my microwave was working fine.

Hey,
Great to hear! Yeah, the contact tips on the switch melt together due to the arcing cause by the short. Remember the problem is caused by the slack in the latch that activates the switches out of sync.
Have a wonderful day. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
Can you post the part link in the summary?
Hey Tim,
I recommend writing down your model number, most often located inside the door of the microwave, and then visiting www.partstown.com. They seem to be a pretty good resource for finding the part number you need. Next, shop around for the best price once you have the part number. I didn't post a direct link because I didn't want people with different microwave models assuming it was a universal part.

What are the safety risks of disconnecting this?
Hey,
On our particular microwave, there are two other safeties in the circuit. We have been using ours this way since the video was made.
Once I have the time, I am hoping to make another video showing an improvement to put it back to better than factory.
