This video made my day over three years after it was originally posted. This is literally the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you so much. As was the case with many other commentators, my monitoring switch was the culprit. Cleaning up the switch with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol revived the stuck clicker/button and voila. Thanks again for such a clear walk through.

THANK YOU!!!! I was all set to purchase a new unit. Watched your video and it was the exact issue you showed here. The monitoring switch was not clicking at all. I was actually looking up a new switch, and was playing with the old one, pressing the button and it starting clicking! I reinstalled the switch, reassembled the the unit, plugged it in and it worked! I guess the switch was simply gummed up with gunk. I still ordered a new one for under $10.00. Saved me from buying a new microwave. Thanks again! It is the wisdom and kindness of people such as yourself that restores ones faith in humanity. We should all be so kind and share what we know to help one another!

We had a 6 yr old Frigidaire Gallary microwave with this problem. We replaced fuses. Called Frigidaire who sent us to an authorized repairman who wanted more than the microwave cost to repair. We are both in our seventies and were dreading taking it down and replacing. All our help (family) has moved away. My husband googled the problem and watched your video. Ordered the switch, replaced it and SUCCESS! A $24 fix and a little paitence and we have a new microwave. Your video was very informative. Gave great details. You are the best! Everything needed. We are lifetime subscribers.

What a great video. Daughter's MW circuit breaker kept popping and this guidance saved her $267 just for a service call and $100 an hour to trouble shoot and fix it. Her final cost, $9 for the three switches on Amazon , $1 for a 20 amp fuse from O'Riley's auto parts and one bottle of Grey Goose for 2 1/2 hours of semi-professional labor that eventually got the MW back together. The door switch was the culprit, but ALL is good now. THANK YOU!

My Frigidaire microwave was tripping the breaker every time we opened the door before the timer was up (odd). I followed your steps and discovered that the switches were all good BUT one of them was "stuck" due to some grease and oil getting in there. Once I cleaned it and it made the "click" sound again, I put it all together and it works again! Thank you for the detailed walkthrough, you're a lifesaver.

Our previous microwave lasted almost 20 years. We bought a Frigidaire Gallery and it failed in less than 3 years of intermittent use. Blowing circuit breakers exactly how you described. Your excellent video clearly described the problem diagnosis and how to fix it. I spent $16 in new microswitches and fixed the issue with your help - saving me who knows how much, worst case the cost of a new microwave. You da man Sam - thank you! My GE JVM3160RF2SS
had a bad middle door switch and kept tripping the 20A breaker. The limit switch part looks like it tests for continuity OK, but if the plunger is wiggled ever so slightly, (without pressing it in until it clicks) the circuit opens. Got a KW3A micro switch online (same 16A@125/250V rating) for $8.00.
Tip to others: With this GE oven, you can leave the oven in place for this repair. To remove the control panel, first remove the plastic header part above the oven cavity (behind the door, 2 screws). The control panel should slide up and out.
Thank you again Sam. You saved me the money and the aggravation of getting a new micro that may not match the other appliances.

OMG - Thank You Thank You Thank You. I was 2 mins away from tossing a 2 yr old $400 Frigidaire that was popping it’s breaker on start up. I can’t believe the engineers there would design a safety switch that shorts out the system. That seems unsafe. I had that same center latch switch stuck in a Closed state. It Opened up just touching it. I cleaned it well with electric contact cleaner and it works perfectly. You can access this switch’s button through the hole where the bottom door latch locks in. Without disassembly just toggle it with a small driver and spray it with contact cleaner. Amazing. Thanks Again !!

I removed the middle switch, and didn't have a multimeter, so I checked to see if they were all clicking, and the middle switch wasn't clicking at all, and seemed stuck inward. Awesome video that let me finally fix my microwave. The most helpful tip was to test the door switches with door open and closed. Turned out the door wasn't pressing the middle (NC) all the way down, latch not making solid contact. I had to secure the middle switch with a zip-tie to the assembly so it remained in one place when latch made contact. Before that all sort of issues displayed - fan runs when opening the door, or magnetron not starting.

Microvave would blow a circuit breaker (20A) at the main Electrical Pannel on premature opening of microwave door while cooking.
Then it would simply blow the circuit breaker on press of start.
    Solution:
1)Unplug Microwave Completely from AC outlet
2)Open Door and use a flashlight to see the inside of the door switches, the openings where the door latches on to.
3)Press the switch (s) (the little approx. 1/8"x3/16" black square pads that stick out) with a small wood dowel to unlock it.
If it was stuck you will hear a click when it unsticks or unlocks.
    4) Plug the Microwave back to the AC outlet.
    5) Reset the circuit breaker ( or check that it is reset)
    6) Start your microwave as normal.
If it works then this was the issue of not, then revisit your microwave symptoms and look for other similar symptoms and
    solutions.
    Things NOT TO DO
DO NOT: open the microwave prematurely, use the STOP button or simply let it finish the heat cycle.
    Further Preventive Maintenance:
Clean your microwave from grease , at least from the exterior, often.
Because deep cleaning a microwave (switches in particular) requires going into the inside where electronics are exposed and because we are dealing with High Voltage components that may be live, still, even when the microwave is disconnected, such as HV capacitors, I recommend you DO NOT do this yourself but have someone trained in electronics or microwave servicing do it for you.
LOGIC: Microwave doors (opening and closing) are constantly under stress, due to constant opening /closing and because of this constant use, the mechanical switches may get worn out or get stuck. Grease from cooking will get switches stuck.
In my particular case I think it was a combination of premature opening the door but mainly and possible grease and grime that got the lower switch stuck.
If the above seems like what you are experiencing , then these steps most likely may help you.
BE SMART! STAY INFORMED AND SAFE!

OMG that worked. It may be that the micro is over the stove so greasy buildup causes the switch to stick

    Sam,
You are the man. Thank you for the video and explanation. I am another one of the hundreds of folks that learned and saved as a result of your video. I dont know how you were able to hold the camera, and keep both leads of the multimeter on the switch, and then also actuate the switch - that was impressive.
The other thing that I wonder about - why the failure mode of this particular problem involves a tripped breaker...? I could see a malfunctioning switch causing error codes, or just a seemingly dead appliance, but the 20A breaker tripping is kind of 'yikes!' for a switch failure...

At the moment my bottom switch has continuity door open and closed so I`m thinking it is the one. Tested it when out, with tiny button depressed and not depressed same as open/closed door. I thank you for this. Look, I have been bragging how well my luck has been running. I have a circa 2008 Moen Chateau with filter system kitchen faucet all over the house at the same time I have this lol. One video kinda sorta. At least Moen has sent me free parts two times so far. gasket set, now waiting for spout. It is what it is, I`m sure you know. Thank you from an old maintenance guy from years ago;-) Cheers.

YES!!!... you dead on fixed my microwave for $5. Too much misinformation on the web indicating I should swap out the H\V capacitor which would be a headache to get to, more expensive and would NOT have fixed the problem. THANK YOU SIR!!!

Great job explaining! I have a very similar model microwave, less than 3 years old at the time of this message. Frigidaire Model No FGMV176NTF, manufactured Sep 2017. The exact switch in the middle (the monitoring switch) was the one that was broken. Found a pack of 2 on Amazon for $7. Dongnan KW3A Microwave Door Switch.

Thank you for making this video, my son-in-law and husband watched this and was able to tell it was a bad switch! New part ordered...microwave is working!! Our microwave is a GE made 12/16 - we got it in spring of 2017. Sure don't make things like they used to.

is this your model number JVM3160DF3BB? My microwave is a GE and it was made May 2017. My problem is intermittent, it works fine for 2-3 weeks, then out of nowhere it trips the breaker when you try to use it. I can reset the breaker and it works again.

    Thank you.
My 15 year old Russell Hobbs started to trip the entire house when closing the door.
Thanks to your video, I found that the top and bottom switches worked perfectly but the monitor switch was jamming and not closing properly.
I managed to exercise it manually to restore normal operation.
I also put a thin strip of duct tape on the pivoting arm which triggers the switch to make it a more positive contact.

Thank you very much for the video. It's exactly problem that we had on our microwave. The faulty was the 2nd switch, part # KW3A, which is Normally Close (not Normally Open) and bought both different kinds over ebay for $12. I was confused at first between Normally Close and Normally Open. They are both same part # KW3A but when take a closer look on the switch connector, Normally Close and Open in different posotion. Also, remember taking picture every step you do, especially disconnecting those wires in control panel.

Great job with the video. I had the same problem with the monitoring switch. When I pulled it out and tested it I found that the switch was I little stuck. I depressed the actuator and it worked properly. Then I noticed the switch bracket that held the monitoring switch in place was a little loose. So I took a thin piece of a business card and slid it in behind the switch so it wouldn't shift so much.. and it works perfectly. No part to replace. Thanks to your fabulous video my microwave still works.
