- In this Reacting To: Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Official Music Video) video, we react to the new single by Ren titled "The Tale of Jenny & Screech."
Ren has once again created a catchy song with a meaningful message, and we wanted to share our reactions with you!
You got it! Violet was abused as a child, the pattern repeats with her SO. She has twins in 2005, the pattern repeats again with the twins. 14 years later, Screech grows to be an abusive prick, and Jenny is an abused streetwalker.
You got it right. That's the twist. It is the story of Jenny and Screech.
'Nick nack paddy whack' is from a nursery rhyme called 'This Old Man Came Rolling Home'. It is not something salacious that Ren dreamed up, but instead is a reference to a severe thrashing. Frankly it is genius that he mixed it into the rhyme scheme. I think that whole sequence is pure genius. Great reaction.
I know it’s a nursery rhyme very familiar. Are you trying to say that there’s like a darker version of the nursery rhyme that refers to a beating?
Or I’m not sure what you’re saying here?
What he said made sense to me. It’s about the cycle of abuse.
This old man, he played nine
He played knick-knack on my spine
With a knick-knack paddy whack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
This old man, he played ten
He played knick-knack once again
With a knick-knack paddy whack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Jenny took after her mom. Quite
Screech after his dad. Aggressive
Side note: good chance that Patrick not being home is the reason why babe was “busy” that night😮
I took it to represent the flippancy by which Stevie would beat violet… almost like the way Alex whistled “Singing in the Rain” whilst laying into the homeless guy in Clockwork Orange.
@@jasonklenetsky5687 Absolutely.....this is a prime example of the nuance Ren weaves into his music/lyrics/performances, he creates so many subtle interwoven threads that an the end you are looking at it feels like you step back and realise you have been shown the up close and personal stories/patterns that make up a larger tapestry which describing the mounting tragedy of combined failures social welfare and corrosive effect intergenerational domestic violence. Ren has a knack of using double meaning 'entendre' (common in rap but rare with this much Depth) it is so clever, and descriptive but leaves it so open for interpretation that has me consuming reaction videos like adictive candy.
From the common guitar rift introductory themes, to the "such a shame" repeated line, Ren catches us being embaracingly enthralled in his performance all the while he alludes to tragedies, unspeakable acts and violence. His music has a deeper message if one wishes to search for it.
Everyone should watch "Ren - Screech's instagram story" (Renmakesmusic) this is a short fictional dramatisation that Ren performs that will help fill in some of thoses itching questions that Screech's tale leaves hanging.
Mind you, "paddywhack" had racist connotations when the word was devised.
Rens fashion aesthetic, you will notice, is vintage 90’s track suits and big bomber style jackets. (When you watch Losing it Fisher rap, you’ll see about 6 different track suits)
It's a story about the cycle of abuse that can be ongoing for generations in a family. First Violet's dad, then her choice of partner - she dies because of him, kids get sent to fosterhomes, the daughter walking the streets at night in high heeled shoes (prostitution) and the son being a criminal and a twat. If that cycle had been broken or prevented earlier, they might have lived, all three.
You got it man don't feel stupid
Ren uses EVERYTHING he can to tell a story. His lyrics are full of the tools used by literary writers ( his use of metaphor, simile, alliteration, personification give you the feeling of being there). His location are chosen wisely and with the intention of making the audience feel like there’s been a “set change “ which gives the story both time and place as well as movement and progression. His cadence, the musical overture and epilogue, the tempo, his body movements and facial expressions, etc , they all add to the character and story. His use of his guitar beyond that of a musical instrument, the direction and camerawork 🤌.
And then the way that he weaves the stories together is masterful, especially since they were not originally written as a trilogy ( ie, In Jenny’s tale the sirens sound approaching … symphony of the night…echoed crime on the streets and she is killed with a knife that could bite through steel and slice concrete. In Screech’s tale the sirens sounds approaching…like a banshee in the night…shrill cry of justice cutting like the sharpest knife. ) Violet’s Tale , which came ~3 years later , is all around brilliant. The overture is foreboding and tense and is matched by REN’s facial expressions and then he moves into the rhythm of the story itself. When he’s in the stairwell and the camera pans upward you can almost see Violet’s “chance” floating up and out, into the dark night sky ( not unlike Screech who melted into the black night or Jenny who met her end on a dark night).
You know way more about the timeframes of the songs…I didn’t know that they were created separately at different times 😮. Ren is SUCH a genius! All that you stated above to create and tell a story. Masterful!❤
Yes screech and jenny were twins and violet was mum
You got it, dude. Not a happy ending the cycle of violence repeats again and again.
YESSSS YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!
Hey!!! I enjoyed this Ren reaction!!! Both twins were hers…Jenny and Screech. Brother and sister separated who didn’t know each other. A cycle of tragedy. Domestic violence and lack of choice for the women! You got it!!Excellent job!! I hope you keep exploring the world of Ren. He’s the artist for our time and is indescribable. Other worldly!! I look forward to more of your work!!❤
And yes, you got it.
I think it’s time to see another side of Ren. The Big Push I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop or Wade In The Water/Nina Simone/ Trouble So Hard
……wade in the water? That was an old Underground Railroad song to help slave escape to the north..
That doesn’t sound fun at all 😂
You got it!😂 I wish your version were true. Be a nice ending 😄
Violet as an adult was poor. So she likely didn't visit the doctor and thought she was pregnant with only one baby. Since her boyfriend beat her and she ended up in the hospital, the authorities found out and he went to jail. Jenny and Screech were born and put into foster care because dad=jail and mom=dead. Then Screech kills his own twin without realizing they are related. Which is an exact replay of what happened with their mom and dad.
I never even thought about Stevie going to jail. Sounds right. Wow.
@carlahelin5203 Yeah, health professionals are mandatory reporters and required by law to alert law enforcement if they see something wrong. 100% he went to jail.
In UK you don’t pay to see a doctor
@@analisasmith7927 Right. I should have worded it differently. In my experience, people who are in a low socioeconomic bracket don't visit the doctor much at all. I'm not sure why that is, and it's just my personal experience, but that is what I have observed. Maybe the better angle was that Violet knew she was pregnant but was trying to hide it from everyone since the Dad was a piece of shit and her going to the doctor would have tipped them off to the abuse.
@@joshuawiedenbeck6944 that makes sense 👍
Great reaction! This is such a powerful series of songs/performances. Ren is a masterful storyteller ❤❤
You're correct!
That's exactly right! It raises the question of moral responsibility, among others - how responsible was Screech, really, for his actions? Did he ever actually have a chance to be someone other than who he grew to be, given his parentage and upbringing? And as for Jenny, 14 years old, walking the streets in high heels? What chance did she have?
Absolutely, screech is just as much a victim. Happy, secure, loved kids, aren’t out on the streets, stabbing up people! 😕
You got it!!❤❤
you're correct, separated at birth.. he mentions a year in violets tale, two zero zero five (2005)and that is 14yrs before screeches tale come out originally which was the age screech was when he killed Jenny and got himself killed
What? OMG! I never caught that!!! 2005… and the 14 years part. Crazy. Dang. The absolute genius of this young man! 🤯
You are spot on,don't doubt your head bro.. Money game 1,2,3 next maybe.?
Another great reaction dude.👍👌
If you do the Money Games make sure to do the lyric one on 2 and not the live. Both great but one certainly has way more impact, in my opinion and most Renagades will also say this.
Yay! New Ren reaction! Yes, you nailed it.
I like your channel and your sound is all good now.
I know you probably have a Ren reaction list a mile long. I think you'd enjoy Illest of our Time or Murderer - good videos for those as well.
You got it!
Yes, yes, yes, you got it! So sad, but shows the cycle of violence! So creative of Ren to highlight this cycle in a bard-like fashion, rap style! 🎉🎉🎉😊great reaction 🎉❤
This is my second time here! Keep exploring Ren He is amazing!!!!
I love your reactions. The sound is great now. You’re not going to please everyone. Keep doing you.
Every time I watch this I am more blown away by the genius of the tales. And reading the comments I learned a few more things that make this all the more mind blowing.
At the beginning of Violet’s Tale while he’s still in the hospital bed he says we have to get back in time to 2-0-0-5. I think you missed that initially which can make the remainder confusing. Good job! Generational trauma meant Violet “never stood a chance” and why she was susceptible to “a little prick” like Stevie.
You got it! That is the story! Ren is an epic storyteller! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
You missed it because you stop it too often to capture the flow of the art the way the artist intended.
Yes, Screech became a street punk, and Jenny became a prostitute by the age of 14. They never met until until he decided to mug a stranger. He overreacted like Stevie, and she froze like Violet.
You got it! 💖🙋♀️
I love how optimistic you were at the beginning of Violet’s Tale. Ren js uplifting. Just, you know, not like that. 😂
Violet tale 😢like i was there in the corner...
I see this trilogy as a way to make us think about what can be done instead of shaking our head and saying it's such a shame and gettingon withour lives unaffected....
I loved your Violet prediction and think you were a wee bit bummed that Ren didn't follow your lead; yeah, we can never predict Ren. We're all along for the ride....
hello dear! 'there's no happy ending'. that is the case in many of ren's songs. for now. he's said he has enough in the can for an album and to look for diff stuff in the future. also, he's doing a collab with chinchillia. as we speak!! i pray ren has decades of health and productivity while he can explore the fathomless depths of his talents and his soul. he recently said he has about another 4 months of the current treatment in canada. keep rockin' this channel, dude!! kathleen bts renegade
yes
Yep... Jenny and Screech were siblings! She most likely wasnt able to go see a doctor... with the abusive Stevie controlling her!
And being in poverty 😢
♡♡♡♡
AT least you know you're missing something. Some peope just go oh three sad stories and miss it completely. You got it at the end that Violet is their mom. And Jenny and Screech never knew each other because they got separated at birth. Generational trauma at it's core.
Rens fashion is top shelf, he loves the 90s style things. He also has a major jacket fetish. You'll see 😂 he is such a modern day bard, especially in this one 😊💜💜
I did warn you that if you stopped it too much you would spoil it for yourself and lose the tread of the story.
I followed her for the most part. I just feel like the connection was kind of vague, but I’m glad I got it.
Not being a reactor has its advantages as I was able to watch all without pausing and the end I believe my jaw literally dropped and I gasped it took me by such surprise.
Yep you got it right!
Ren is a 90s lover like me. He lives in 90s tracksuits, starter jackets etc! The two starter jackets in this I desperately need to add to my Ren collection, I collect all his jackets/tees etc, as does my youngest son 😂
And the boy James aka Screech took after his father Stevie being angry and violent and Jenny was a shy girl who took after mother's temperament.
Exactly right!❤
Never heard that prediction before violets tale, but i like the idea
Absolutely right. The profound part was the cycle of abuse. And after he rewound time, he as the bard/narrator/performer, had to take a deep breath and shake him self to build the strength of telling yhe same story over again.
That keeps happening over and over.
Like thise EMT's that just can't take the constant weight of witnessing tragedy and are tasked to fix it. But it doesn't stop
You need to do Money Game part 3, Losing it, Genesis, The Hunger, Illest of our Time!!!
The optimistic guess at the start of Violet’s Tale 😅 Even after Ren ended the first two tales in such tragic ways cause surely he wouldn’t do that for the third story too? But unfortunately the modern day bard Ren isn’t here to tell happy tales but shed light on real issues.
Nailed it bro... ITs one hell of a twist.
Right guess. Violets Tale takes place before the other to and she is the mother in a circle of violence that continued with Screech killing Jenny and getting killed himself.
Patty wak so clever, bringing us back to s childhood memories . Her childhood memories were reliving themselves also
Some untold stories from each Tale:
Jenny's Tale - Jenny was a 14 year old prostitute
Screch's Tale - Patrick was not home for the exact same reason why Screech's girlfriend was "busy"
Violet's Tale - Stevie is NOT the father!
Both they were twins raised separately
No you’re 100% correct.
Laugh out loud bingo your right
You'll soon realize that Ren loves the 1990s; music, film and clothing. He was born in that decade. A lot of his music gives nods to the 90s.
Weird normally memories are from the proceeding decade. 80s made me 90s raised me
True, but I think he maybe relives his birth and life and the trauma of his sickness that robbed him of his 20s and still plagues him in his 30s.
Ah damn man, you should have backed yourself in because you absolutely nailed it! Although, you can be forgiven for thinking that was far too profound a construct for a music video (or set of music videos) - it’s more Quentin Tarantino than Olivia Rodrigo 😂
Yup
It’s absolutely right
❤✌
Funny you mention 28 days.... main character is played by Cillian Murphy, who also plays Thomas Selby in Peaky Blinders who most people compare Ren to in appearance. Cillian has just won a Golden Globe for Oppenheimer!!
You got it in the end!
I love at the beginning of Violet's,,, where you guessed 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤ fair play chap but no. 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
nailed it! generational violence
Ok,let's gooooo!!
Twins dude! Jenny and Screech are brother and sister!
Your prediction on who is Violet - the organ donor angle.... gotta say that you're the 1st I've heard come up with that one. You've got a very creative mind.... I subbed!
Looking forward to more REN reactions from you!
Thank you so much!!
no itss right
I've enjoyed all of your reactions to Ren!
Hate to be whiny, but is there any way to make the music video larger? I zoom to larger size, but those of us with shitty vision 🤦♀️😅 yes, I have glasses too. 😮✌️
Both were her kids screech killed his sister
That's definitely one of the most brain-dead and gormless reactions I've seen, to Ren's incredible trilogy...
I am not a native speaker but it wouldn’t really matter if he said baby or babies would it? It is possible that Violet actually didn’t really know that she is pregnant at all or that she is pregnant with twins.
Good try.❤❤
This video has perfect subtitles, and not done by TH-cam...
SMH!? Last one wasn’t so I did what I knew would be correct 🤷
RENagades will get you that monetization. 😊 I just found you now so you will be seeing more people coming.
If you want to do some more rap and want to see the best rap track The Hunger is for you.
Violet was Jenny and screatchees mother he killed his sister
Gave up watching sorry. The constant screen size changes did my head in. I mean Ren sings in English and very clearly, no need for the lyrics. I found the whole experience annoying. Good luck with your channel though.
I’m obsessed with song structure that’s kind of my thing hearing the lyrics once doesn’t do justice to all the inner rhymes and filler words that make the rhymes bounce around a certain way your mind cannot recall the intricate Verbatim off of first listen how you can perceive when you read it.
It’s either that or I run it back five or six times so I can memorize the lines and break them down in my head. That’s too time-consuming.
It’s kind of my thing some people appreciate it some people don’t.
Cheers
Ennio Morricone, anyone? No?
fun reaction, the circle of life or the circle of violance?
Ren is 🪄🎼🦄✨
Audio vol 🔛🔝🔊 😁ty
CC is easier.... 🤭
And keep that srceen Big, with CCs 👍
What!?
Sorry I was born in the 80s I don’t speak emoji very well…
Audio source (yt) on Top. Keep the screen Big as possible. You can adjust your hf sound like want...enough english 🤘😁👍💙🇫🇮@@GimmicklessReactions
@@GimmicklessReactions i was in 60s.....
@@wanmac31 meh, i’ve tried the auto captions before they’re not right he doesn’t pay someone to caption his stuff, so they auto predict incorrectly. I’ve been thinking about getting a third screen or just reading on a tablet tho.
@@GimmicklessReactions The audio captions on this trilogy was imputed by a member of Ren's team (& it's perfect on this song) & not computer generated by YT like "Hi Ren" was because I agree with you, they were terrible on that song.
Also FYI Ren usually pins the lyrics in the comments section of his videos on many of his releases. If you're going to react to a song like Ren's fast paced EDM rap cover of "Losing It", then I suggest you use the pinned lyrics Ren left in the comments of that video. Cheers bro.
You just said you don’t need the lyrics- you can understand Ren well enough-and then you pull up the lyrics?????
Yeah, I’m obsessed with song structure so I can understand what he’s saying, but my brain can’t recall every word for vim and I like to read and see exactly where the words land I’m more of wordsmith rap fan first. I’ve been thinking about getting a third screen or just pulling up my lyrics on a tablet or something though
Well ya know how to spoil a set of songs
If you don’t want it spoiled you should watch the original video. We do intricate, obsessive ADHD off task. Stop & rant reactions over here, bud ;) lol
It's not a rant it's an observation
@@wiseblood90 no I was saying I rant in my videos. I’m unsure what you mean by spoiling a set of songs so I listed all the attributes that I think people might find annoying and I said if these attributes bug you then this channel might not be for you. It was a bit of a sarcastic joke, but a little bit serious at the same time. But I’m serious. What do you mean I spoiled it?I don’t understand. I’ve never seen these before. I do try to predict ahead, but I guess I don’t understand what you mean by I spoiled it?
Honestly you’re missing important things because you’re trying too hard to act like you’re knowledgeable. Listen to the lyrics!
Excuse me, sir, I react a certain way over here and me predicting and analyzing the lyrics is part of it. I don’t understand how that qualifies trying hard to act knowledgeable. That’s quite confusing and a bit rude. Seems to me like I understood everything perfectly. I didn’t miss a night I didn’t miss out on anything
Good day! lol
Seriously I’ll just because I don’t watch it how you think I should watch it doesn’t mean I’m doing it wrong or I’m not picking up on things that you’re assuming I don’t understand. I’m doing the opposite of being knowledgeable. I’m pausing, going back and reading the structure of the song , because that’s what yanks my chain lol
Cheers hope you sit around.
You shouldn't read ahead in the lyrics. You'll ruin the impact of so many lines and the story as a whole.
You totally ruined it
lol, says you.
Cheers
crap reaction.
You got it!
You got it!
