The issue here is that Kujo "the producer" who sold the beat didn't own the original choir part from a Bulgarian choir, Kujo knew it, knew it was not "legal" to sell it bc he didn't own or pay for the copyright and knowing that said nothing when the contract with Ren was signed. Now the same producer is using that loophole claiming copyright on Ren's Sick Boi and demanding 100% of royalties, he issued a strike on Sickboi youtube video so now he is holding the video hostage to get something he unfairly sold.
Basically Kujo is asking for all the royalties on SickBoi to cover what HE did wrong.
He is also pretending to have tried to contact Ren's legal team for a year... but didn’t find a way to contact Ren directly (and here is my foot 🤪)
Imo K waited for the song and the album to do really well to trigger the claim.

No one will ever work with Kujo after this. Why would they want to if this sort of thing is going to happen? "Ruin Ren's image" ? No, I don't think so. Ren is the most honest and upfront and transparent person, it's unlikely he's lying.

I don't know, if you look into it. It sounds like dude was promised royalties he's not getting. He's not exactly in the wrong for wanting the money the contract says he should have.

@@KiKat373 Lately yea but it seems like he was not paid before this came up either. And I don't think anyone is arguing he should not be paid because the sale was not valid (due to the stolen sample) because that would also mean Ren never had a valid license to use it.
Kujo can't be paid by the distribitor because he doesn't own the rights to the sample. He's going to need to work that out with the rights holder. The beat with that sample was sold illegally to Ren because it wasn't cleared by the rights holder to the sample. They probably would have cleared it for some modest split as they usually do for that particular sample (as AR said, it is a common one), but nobody reached out to them. So now Kujo is basically making it look like his error is somehow Ren's fault and trying to get Ren to pay for it.

One of the RENagades contacted The Top Music Attorney (TH-cam channel) and they went live last night to talk about the same info you were able to find.
The Top Music Attorney said she would be willing to assist Ren and Kujo with mediation on this issue if they wanted her to or assist in some way to make sure that the entire Sick Boi album isn't pulled or tied up in litigation which hurts both artists in the long run.
They should probably get an actual respected attorney in the industry that works with other top entertainment attorneys as opposed to a TH-cam lawyer based in AZ.

I appreciate the breakdown and frankness. I was struggling with the intricacies of this.
I'm think it has more to do with the unlicensed sample. My guess is the person who owns the master for the sample went after Kujo, and now he's trying to recoup the money he lost from that, whether it's legal fees and the judgment, or he had to pay for the license for the sample used and is trying to get that beck from Ren.
The Top Music Attorney channel did a piece on this.
They themselves have had their own copyright issues with Splice.
Worth watching form a legal perspective.
It's not really Ren taking it public. Kujo taking the video down forced it into the public. It's still disingenuous of Kujo and his people to say Ren escalated by taking it public after taking the video down.
Ren just posted a video with message screenshots, explaining the whole issue.
Ren has just released a video explaining all this with receipts.
He got no notice they just copy right strikes it. Took it down.

My understanding is the main sticking point is the Content ID clause in the BeatStars contract. Ren’s team may have used the Content ID tag inappropriately to allow reaction channels to monetize the reactions. That may have complicated the publishing distribution and Kujo’s ability to get paid what he was contractually entitled to receive. So it seems like Kujo’s lawyers are treating the Content ID issue as a breech of contract which Kujo indicated might entitle him to claim all royalties. The stolen beat is not being disputed.
I agree that Kujo is handling this situation the wrong way, especially once he realized that Ren was kept in the dark. But there’s no way Ren would work with Kujo again. So Kujo is being short-sighted.
What’s a content ID?
Kujo has no right to publishing related payments because he didn't clear the sample. Sample owner could possibly take 100% of publishing.

YT video called "BLACK DEVIL MERCEDES BENZ S63 AMG" plays that full song of that sample with the car as the star in the video it has 26million view since 2017 In Centre is that channels name. The funny thing is it sounds like REN's sample came from that video and not the original.

I think as you said there are a couple of issues. Yes Kujo needs to be paid royalties and should be paid but they are now wanting more than the original agreed price - I guess cause the song has done so well. Trying to milk it and threatening to claim 100% if he doesn’t agree to their terms
Royalties for what? He sold a song in which he didn't own all of the rights. That issue supersedes any sort of payments, royalty or otherwise.

I disagree on "It is business" part.
K's yt video with the beat took 7-8k views in 2 or 3 days... this has already made him more than what it would have ever done.
He has made his move and like Cortes burnt all his ships, if ever he got the whole dough... he will earn nothing more afterwards bc he has ruined his name and reputation "in the business", that is possibly why he is being so quiet for 2 days.
Not sure the artists he is producing or has produced would be very keen on working with him again.

So here is my question; Did Kujo compensate the members of the choir that he recorded to create his sample, which he himself has been selling to other artusts? If he did not then his case is without merit and he himself may get the tables turned on him.
As for the percentage that the beat owner gets, i would divide the amount of time the sample appears in the track compared to the track length. Thst would be the percentage that is fair for royalties. The sobg is not built around that sample, it is just an interlude in the track.
That's not how it'll work out though. The sample owner has the leverage to take a huge portion of the master and synch rights.
@@seanjohnson7367 if he did not compensate the people he recorded though he can be sued for theft of intellectual property for profit and lose out entirely. I think the only important part of this is determining if he actually owns it. If not then he illegally initiated a contract agreement that cannot stand in court.
@@MW66VB I agree. The sample appears to have not been cleared and this probably means that the sale to Ren was fraudulent. But my point is that now that it has been released, the sample owner (on both the record side and publishing/songwriting side) is in a position to call the shots. Lot of precedent of this party taking 100% of publishing.
@@seanjohnson7367 They will not get 100% a judge will put an end to that since the sample is only 3.5 seconds of the track. Rens lawyer, should investigste the true ownership stake in the sample, if it turns out that it was never purchased from the chior then ren has options. He can go directly to the choir and deal with them and then use that against kujo or his lawyers can turn the tables and get the charges dropped against Ren and then a criminal fraud case opened against Kujo.
I don't get it: KUJO - ЯГА ( yRDxHFYrGmI ) -- the instrumental Ren licensed -- is still on TH-cam, so if there are copyright issues with the choir sample, why is his version still up? did Kujo eventually paid his fee for the sample?
Rens releasing a song on Thursday he's calling all reactors to react to it. Please be there! Pass on the word to other reactors. It's addressing these legal issues. ;) it's gonna be big.
Probably the best advice summary is that those of us that do not have all of the details are just reacting to speculation (kind of like trial by media). Although I understand how frustrating legal issues can be, the process is there for a reason. It can even work if not too internally corrupt.
A lot of Ren fans have mental issues themselves , seems to me quite dangerous to go after Ren with a fanbase like that.

What I wonder most is if Ren bought the track via beat stars and implicit license contract terms on the platform or a separate agreement. Beat stars license contracts should have been unlimited if that’s what he bought. If the argument is if the content hasn’t been paid for then he is saying there was breach of contract for that reason and then try and get ALL profits on the Sick Boi and other tracks using Kujo’s work? Maybe he is going by that angle ???

I believe the argument was that the Bulgarian Choir sample was NOT authorised when the beat was sold by Kujo to Ren . Ren was unaware of this The fault lays with the publishers of the original samples and Kujo NOT REN He bought the beats in good faith that is a legal term that covers this situation

Seems there are a few different issues here and I agree that there aren’t enough facts available. I agree that if the lawyer didn’t inform Ren, that seems like a potential malpractice issue. The contract itself may not be a good one in terms of clarity or completeness.

Beats are purchased, leased all the time. Producers play a major role in hip hop.

Why should Ren forgo the money he earned from his album just because the guy he bought the beat from illegally used a sample he wasn’t entitled to but never disclosed it to Ren? He did a lot of work to create this album, he shouldn't end up losing all the money, IMHO.

This situation is more complex than any of us are privy to. Fighting for your rights legally, often means the solicitors get rich and everyone else loses out financially.
Principles are fine to have, but in the end, they do not allow you to move on with life if you end with years of litigation in front of you. It takes the joy out of everything else you do.
Sometimes, in life, it is better to look for alternative solutions to complex problems. That way, you can learn how to avoid tricky situations from arising in the future, and avoid years of angst.
One solution, may be, to agree to donate the proceeds. A magnanimous proffering, which would make the other party look really small and petty for refusing. Both parties agree to giving to charity, both parties walk away looking good to the "world" and neither has had to fight over things and make enemies.
Settle the issue, move on with life, and learn from the experience.
As a caveat, I would like to say, this may work with individuals, but when a business is involved, it becomes more complex. From what little we know, it seems to be a multi party issue, and no single solution will resolve all the facets.
