Hey Paula, I have watched dozens of reacts to Ren's work and I loved yours, Well done spotting The Lanes in Brighton. I think Ren lives or lived there. In Violets tale you can hear the seagulls "screeching" a constant sound of Brighton (Been there many times lived 20 miles up the road).

It is a masterpiece. it's like performance art or at least very theatrical. My Ren is very intelligent. I've wanted to do this for a long time, having heard the hype but was concerned that it would be such a long video! :) xxx

I'm glad you got the twist at the end. You would be surprised at how many reactors don't get it and it flies right over their head. Thankfully you did not disappoint in that area.

Id like to see a Richards tale too, the poor copper that shot screech, how must he have felt, would he be crucified by the media, would the Met hang him out to dry or support him, so many questions, the “tales” are a proper Greek Tragedy and knowing Ren he would make Richard the father of the twins so he shot his own son even though he probably didn’t know he had fathered any children, all my theories on the main characters are covered on my YT

As I understand it, Ren read a news story which inspired this, but he developed it into a story about generational trauma as a way to explain how people do the things they do. It's really very clever.
No one likes to talk about the reality that untreated trauma often leads to the perpetuation of more trauma. People instinctively want to reject anything that might be seen as providing an excuse for someone's violent actions. The uncomfortable reality is that many people who commit such crimes have experienced trauma of their own and never processed it, never dealt with it, and it's led them to those circumstances. We only see a small snapshot of the person who committed the crime, they're painted in a certain way, as if their actions happened in an inexplicable vacuum.
If we aren't willing to even acknowledge that there are root causes for many of those cases, how could we ever begin to work to prevent those circumstances from repeating?
very well put, I must say. Yes, he does like to talk about 'real' stuff which may be uncomfortable for some. At least he's pushing the boundaries...:) xx
It's also worth pointing out for people outside the UK, that Violet was very unlikely to be given a council flat at the age of 16, unless - she was already pregnant when she moved out. So Violet's father is likely the father of Jenny and Screech (which is probably why Stevie keeps refering to Violet as "such a little liar"). As for Violet's mum, she very likely (just like Violet did), chose a partner that treated her the same way as her own father, so Violet's mother was likely abused too, and turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism.
@@AndrewJonesMcGuire That's actually a very good point. Families of like 5 with young children have to wait about 5 years to get any type of housing here...

That part where Ren switches into head-voice for the "Violet was a silent girl...," it's so pretty (as is the staircase pan-up part), it's always frustrated me that not a single reactor, among the many, many that I've seen, took special notice, much less commented on it. You did, and my need to see it acknowledged was, at least in some small part, satiated. Your reactions come across as genuine, and you come across as smart, perceptive. I appreciate it.

What a great reaction, Paula. I've watched many reactions to this extraordinary piece of art, and yours is one of the best - just utter disbelief and shock at what you've just witnessed. And as you pointed out, all performed live, all shot in one take. Ren is THE artist of our time, no one else is creating art like this. A masterpiece!

Great reaction! From a 56 year old woman who has used snus since I was 17. I don't think I could move to a country where importing snus is illegal. I'm sorry if you had to leave Sweden because of Brexit.

I didn't leave because of Brexit! I moved back to England to do my Masters degree...but I was sure that I checked I could get snus imported at the time, so you can imagine the blind panic when I wasn't able to!!! :) xx

I can understand the panic very well😁. When I was younger I visited UK a few times every year. I think I was around 20 when me and my sister was on a boat heading to Göteborg (Gothenburg) from England. We all stood patiently waiting for the boat to dock when a young man asked his friend for a cigarette. He didn't smoke it. He pulled the paper away and made a "snus" out of the tobacco and put in under his lip. I stood there watching him. Thinking to myself that must be disgusting. When he looked at me, I pulled my snusdosa out of my pocket and asked: "Want one? I've never seen anyone pull tobacco out from under their lip as he did😁 and greedily accepted my offer 🤣.

I worked for a large tobacco company for years. Snus is an example of bad tobacco regulation. It is proven much safer (not safe... safer than the alternatives) but is treated the same as smoking. This includes an outright ban in many countries. Nordic spirit is not treated as tobacco because it is more similar to gum where it is nicotine in highly processed form, no longer tobacco. As a smoking cessation tool it is good, but still highly addictive. There are safer alternatives to smoking but companies have trouble explaining the benefits because like cigarettes, advertising in any form is highly regulated or banned.
I should mention that the reason snus is banned in most of Europe has to do with horrible, unethical marketing in the past. So I am not sympathizing with the companies. Still regulators have been captured by anti-smoking groups, for who total cessation of nicotine use is the only acceptable approach to the problem. On one side you have the greedy businessmen and the other fundamentalists. A pox on both their houses!

The tales were inspired by a news article, Ren read about a 14 year old boy who stabbed and murdered a prostitute.
