That sort of gain can be had with tyre pressure adjustment or taking the service books out, lol, prob wait till the OEM software is sorted before I go out and buy this paper weight.
no joke, my mk7 R with nothing but a APR stage 1 tune did 3.92sec best run. I was expecting something like a 3.6-3.7sec at least for the piggy back Mk8 R.
@@Jameshhl if I were to say something, the apr stage 1 tune is ecu tuning unlocking bigger potentials compared to a pcm tune mounted on with no change of tune for the ecu. i would give analogy of changing how much electricity a drill can put out through allowing more flow of electricity( golf r can support that) for more power compared to putting a bigger battery on the drill( just little bit more support of performance). IN SHORT: since golf 8R’s ecu is not unlocked by tuners for ecu tuning compared with already unlocked (mk 7-7.5r). it wont allow us to use the full potential.
Yeah but, once the MK8 R has it's ECU unlocked, holy damn it will be a FAST car, it will hit high 2 sec 0-60. Yeah I own a Golf R but it's the MK7 and man they are rapid with a tune, got a unicorn stage 2 with almost full FBO and wowzers, it's fast.
Thanks for sharing. ATM, i would not risk it, its only 0.1 sec -02 quicker, may be just ignition time advance? I would like to see a proper tune box, like 220kw before and after 280kw stock internals. This is like typical audi s3 upgrade.
Well you can’t which is why Racingline brought this piggyback out. The Mk8 Golf GTI / R ECU hasn’t yet been cracked so you can’t ecu tune these. You also get a free upgrade to Racinglines ECU tune when they bring it out for these models so it’s a no brainer to get this. I have it and love it
Great stock figures and like many other tests, far better than VW claim. The box ... that is not much of a gain IMO when you are talking warranty ended as they can see it has been there .... admittedly if they look hard enough into stored data. I'd not do the box as a map is going to be great .... when it can be done though ...
I dont think this box will void your warranty, like an actual tune would do. I think warranty is still safe with this box, just remove it before you take it in.
Cool I guess, but given questionable VW reliability and expensive parts, no way would I do a tune before the warranty runs out. Not sure I would even do it then, given limits on the street.
the most important thing is how it does the curves and how much improved it is compared to the mk7 anda compare civic , megane ecc ecc 0.5sec more or less on a straight road is not the end of the world
Watch the Canadian market, some quality no nonsense ecu mapping for these cars at much lower prices including reusable mri tune storing tune device start w stage one upgrade to 2 or better download to same tuner save old tune install new can then reverse tune at will for different uses!
Lmao. You absolutely can ecu tune the mk8 R and the gearbox. They’re locked but you can unlock the ecu. Stock mk8 r with warm tyres will do a 4 second flat 0-60 - it’s been done on carwow. Stage 1 map and gearbox map will net you a 3.4 second 0-60 and just a tickle over 400bhp.
2023 GTI owner here. When I was younger, I just ate up all this silliness. The notion that you can shave 0.5 seconds off a 0-60 time or a second off a 0-100 time by messing with the ECU? Why? We are not race car drivers on a racetrack. We are driving on real roads and streets. Are these cars not quick enough from the factory? So another car gets to the next stoplight more quickly. So what? I’m all for automobiles that are sporty and safe, but have we not come to an absurd place where we are spending lots of $$$ flashing ECU’s, removing perfectly good exhaust systems and suspensions all to make your vehicle faster to 60 mph by half a second or go around a corner at 0.9G vs. 0.85G? To what end? Perhaps my GTI will be the only one in America kept stock - perhaps that will make it more valuable in twenty years because who wants an automobile ruined by shade tree mechanics who modified it to THEIR liking? Not me. And drive a car like you stole it? They won’t last nearly as long as one that gets driven by a civil human being. All this aftermarket stuff is just pure nonsense designed to extract cash from the wallets of the gullible. LOL!
Bit of a overreaction old timer… Tunes are far the best bang for your buck.. I agree spending $$ on supporting mods like intakes and down pipes to get an additional 10 HP is usually throwing money away. But a $700 Tune to get 100 HP is excellent value. Also….the majority of cars are left stock. Not everyone tunes..
100% not worth it. And i'm not saying that from a price standpoint, its going to hurt your motor. I have seen some of these piggyback tune maps on the dyno, and its all messed up. Slams the torque early, then gets wavy at the top end. Sure people have gotten stuff replaced under warranty with the piggybacks, but its not worth the risk. This isn't something you will feel on the street.
@@richardbaron2948 when you start to modify cars the first thing you must buy is a tow rope. The R8 V10 is incredible. Sounds amazing. Looks amazing. Really fast. You can keep the Golf.. I would rather be slower in the R8.
Appreciate the honest test. Might just wait it out for a proper ECU tune down the road

Why did he seem so much smaller in the car?
£720 for a 1 sec gain at 60-120mph basically unusable in the uk lol
The. Basic car is pretty highly tuned and pretty much suits the car already…
stock time very impressive for a 4 banger. Damn, I wish an Integra Type S was this good but with better styling.
This is why i still own my 7.5 into APR massive gains,
Yeah but, once the MK8 R has it's ECU unlocked, holy damn it will be a FAST car, it will hit high 2 sec 0-60.

I got the mod itch with my 7.5R. 😬
A stage 1 7.5 is still faster by a fair bit, I'd wait for a true stage 1 for the Mk8. Then you should be seeing 3.5 ish to 60 like the 7/7.5.
Or just get Bluespark adding 40 extra hp. They work great. had two of them over the years.
or more Caz 7R is no where near 8R's improvement
Stock 8r 0-60 3.9 stock 7 4.3 so the r stage 1 prob low 4s
I'll be keeping my money safely in my pocket for time being. Don't worry you'll get it when ecu can be mapped!
Neon green looks good

Anyone know what suspension they have on that? if lowering springs, which ones?
Yeah lets crack that ecu. This thing will fly
I really feel the only fair test is 100-200 as even with launch control, too many variables
Not bad. Probably a nice solution for guys that don't want their new cars with warranty flagged from an ECU flash.
What's the point? You can take the Golf R to the dealer and get the APR tune put on the ECU which gives more gains than this aftermarket box.

4.18s stock with 1ft rollout ON 0-60mph?
Why dont u measure correct 0-100kph with 1ft rollout OFF to compare it with stock VW times?
i couldn't afford the insurance hike to warrant a tune up , car is fast enough anyway to lose my license
It really worth it IMO

Hmmm not worth it yet, the regular oem+ is still better so far 3.8 stage1
Lol. Obviously did not do much to power increase. Where are your figures for that? I think i stick to my Bluespark adding 40hp now sitting on 330hp 👍🙃

the front of this car looks like mr.burns from the simpsons

Ecu tune and no tcu tune…
Get a tune for £300 dunno why you think £600 is bargain
Not really worth the £600 that
Everyone and their dogs start some sort of car test.
I'll say that's around a 30 whp gain.
might be better off to just say don’t bother lol
Why pretend there was anything useful here.
😂 super ECU tune 😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
How long that 4 cyl finna last? Get a Camaro SS for same price that's faster and last you 10+ yrs
Soooo
Pointless....💁♂️

Shame the mk8 looks fugly
