overall goes to Iphone. Consistent .. the video, 24mp as standard and it is quite snappy , low light mode. Iphone wins easily. gonna have this as my second phone. I love my S22Ultra as a daily driver except for the just "good camera" and this Iphone is stellar.

Definitely the Samsung S23 ultra! Even by mere viewing of the comparison shots u put up, it seemed pretty obvious that the Samsung samples were better. I was kinda surprised on many occasions when u said u preferred that of the iPhone. Had to watch the video again in 4k to be sure it wasn't a problem with my TV.

-SInce the September update the S23U also supports 2x lossless zoom as well as 2x portraits.
-When shooting night photos with telephoto lenses, S23U will default to the main camera and use digital zoom (Auto lens switching is on), so actually you have been using digital zoom from the main lens. You can use Camera Assistant (it's now integrated in the camera settings) to disable the Auto lens switching...
-When shooting night video, there is a visible stutter on iPhone - which is unussual. That obviously means that the iPhone lowers the FPS to soak up more light. That's why the video looks a bit brighter. There is an option in the S23U camera settings which enables Auto FPS - that helps in the low light somewhat...

Between these 2 there is no wrong choice honestly. I personally believe we’ve come to a point where the cameras are so evenly matched that it’s no longer a gap that’ll make one noticeably better than the other. That being said this video helped me make my choice between the 2 phones ( currently on a 14 pro max ) and I think id be giving the 23 ultra a go, the pics imo were slightly better and more of my taste while the 15 pro max has better video. I take photos more than videos so id lean more towards the ultra.

Thanks Saf for the comprehensive review on the cameras. However, it would had been great to have some pics/video comparison of human subjects indoors. I've seen some reviews in which i15 doesn't fare that very well in medium to low light indoor situations. More comparison between the 2 cams on human subjects would be good to add within your review. On the following time frame of your review 5.55/7.30/14.30/18.45 I felt the dynamic range was rather off, making you look so artificially tanned. Just didn't seem natural, at least to me. I've also seen similar results on other reviews especially, when shots were taken indoors. Iphone 14 doesn't seem to have that issue. Hope, Apple will be able to fix this if indeed, ppl find it awkward. Once again, thanks for the review and more indoors please. Cheers!

I have an S23 Ultra and an iPhone and not sure that I'm ordering a 15 Pro/Max. I also work with all types of cameras as a cinematographer, videographer, and photographer. I said that to mention that this comparison is misleading. Just to note, I wouldn't recommend either of them if you're seriously trying to capture a professional sort of look. What I will say is this seems to heavily lean on a personal opinion and the portrait section was a huge highlight of this. That iPhone portrait was definitely not accurate bokeh. It's heavily processed and noticeable. Just hoping to hear a bit more subjective comparisons based on the technical capabilities of these phones. To be short, they're both very close in their delivery of allowing more cinematic photos/video. I'll tell you this for a fact.. the THREE lenses on the iPhone Pro and Pro Max rely more on marketing than actual output. It isn't what it's said to be at all and for someone who would use these to their highest capabilities.. it is not worth it

The Samsung was better in exactly 1 normal photo and 1 audio clip, plus the 10x regular light shots. Otherwise, the 15 Pro Max clobbered it and it wasn’t close. Plus, Pro RAW is still vastly better than any of the RAW images an Android can take, and I like to edit most of my photos so that’s a huge plus.

@10:48 now it isn't a gimmick. Here you committed the same mistake that most reviewers commit: using big zoom to take photos or videos...sorry but that's pretty dumb of course. No. The big zoom should be used as....binoculars! And there's an endless number of situations where it comes pretty hand and not a gimmick. Imagine you park your car in an area that you don't know and there's some signs far from you with instructions about that parking area. Use the zoom and easily read it, instead of walking half a mile to read it. Imagine you're in the airport comfortably seated listening to your music while you wait and you want to know what's saying about the flights and you're far from it. Zoom in and read it instead of getting close. You don't even need to get up from your bench. See how convenient it can be?

The chip can’t handle this in real time.

The aperture value is not noted on the Apple website for the 5x lens. However, one must multiply the crop factor by this aperture, say f/2.8, to get the full-frame equivalent. That might be around f/20. This would mean that depth of field is effectively infinity and that Apple is really applying computational photography to achieve the bokeh effect for the 5x lens.

Yeah, but dont forget the S23's is 7.2 stops more than it's stated F4.9, which i cant actually find a chart that goes that high, but it is apparently f627 (ish), as the sensor is smaller than the iphone too, so it's about f4.9 + 7.2 stops. The bokeh effect might not be real, but you can see why in low light the 5x zoom on the iphone destroys the 10x zoom on the samsung. (Although I am not 100% sure on exactly whether that figure only relates to DOF measurements, or whether it is an indication of overall light transmission too). I would love to see if Samsung can either increase the sensor size, and open the aperture, or if they can try make a tetraprism 10x in the same way apple have.

I don't know why most of the youtubers are biased towards apple? If samsung gives 10x zoom, people be like its useless normal people don't use 10x. Now iphone got 5x and suddenly 5x and 10x has become a thing.
Also, when samsung did 5x portrait zoom everyone was like 2x and is best as iphone was doing 2x.
When samsung did 2x, everyone was like 3x is best as iphone was doing 3x.
Now suddenly, samsung did 3x and everyone is jumping on 5x portrait coz iphone got it?
These days I don't trust these kind of youtubers. Those who buy the phones and do the review are better as they are unbiased.

I really enjoyed this comparison, I do think its a tough call, between the s23 ultra camera and the iPhone 15 Promax. It comes down to other aspects that you may or may not like about the s23 u or the 15 Promax, in my view. The cam will not be a decisive point in your decision here

As a photographer we use Pro video mode rather then pro res. Pro-res is literally nothing but a marketing gimmick just like the samsung's 100x but the thing is they both can do those thibgs and thats good, but in reality we use Pro-Video mode which is only present on Samsung where we can literally change everything from Iso, Shutter speed, White Balance, Manual focus, Mics and what not. So i would rather go with Samsung for videos.
