      Kinda weird you didn't show how to build the tracks ? I would think that part is integral.

    I love the auto captions when you run that maple over the jointer:
    [APPLAUSE]
    [MUSIC]
    And when you close it at the end, more applause.
    Well done.

    Beautiful door... But the tracks are a pretty important part of the project, and there's no discussion or demonstration of how they were made or even what they look like. Critical omission.

    Another innovative build & great video, John. I appreciate you showing the adjustments you needed to make. It’s easy to assume your talents make it so you just throw things together & they fall into place perfectly for you.

    The 'tambour' in tambour door means 'drum' in French. This is a reference to the door rolling up in a drum, hence the name.

    • @charlieodom9107
      @charlieodom9107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is what I thought too.
      I understand the linear track he did for the limited space to work with, but what would the door be called with a linear track instead of rolling up?

    They made these in a cabinet shop I worked in many years ago. We didn't make these in my section but as I recall, they glued the cloth to a properly dimensioned board and used a V bit in a router to cut the strips. The cloth was thick (canvas I think) just in case they went too deep but they left just a 100th of an inch of wood and broke it apart when done. It worked like a charm. The company bought brown plastic guides for the tracks. This was an assembly line. No time to make guides.

    To prevent hang up, round the upper and lower corners on the end of each slat so they glide easier, light sanding should to the job.
    Picture it like a subtle type of Tambor made from popsicle sticks. Just not as pronounced.
    Another way to connect them would be to drill a 1/8" hole about 1/4" from each end (so they stay concealed) and threading them. At the end that is never seen, run your thread through a small spring, and "T" the thread off with a slight compression on the spring. This allows for each tenon to "gap" enough to make the curve, but keeps tension on the set to keep them touching throughout the opening and closing of the door.
