    That is aaaamazing. The amount of effort and detail is unbelievable. I wish I had a portion of the skill and tools needed for this. Knowing the color of the walnut when it is finished, I would have preferred a similar color backing cloth to make the openings a little more camouflaged. I find it hard to critique something I could never dream of doing. You and Jess both amaze me. Keep it up

    I don’t think there is anything wrong with using a CNC for wood working!! However… I feel that people of a certain age and older, who grew up seeing fine wood working, and recognized how hard what we were seeing happened to be. This was due to us understanding how they had to go about crafting what they made.
    It’s why we marvel at someone that swims the English Channel, despite the fact that you can easily fly or sail over. Or why we think Usain Bolt is amazing, but cars are effortlessly much faster. It’s the process that makes it impressive.

      @@TwoMooseDesignHonestly I respect it. It'll never be seen, but you'll never be accused of "cutting corners" to save a buck. Great job! I learned woodworking & cabinet making from an old school master woodworker from Germany. He made me do nearly everything with hand tools until he felt I knew what I was doing, then he moved me to power tools. He said it improved understanding of the construction concepts & proper use of the power tools. Once I was skilled & safe with power tools we only used hand tools for “touch-ups” & small, one-off steps. He said to go for the power tools whenever possible. We also built lots of jigs for repeatability. He would have absolutely loved to have a CNC. Don’t let the curmudgeons get you down, keep up the great work!
    On the whiskies: Oban for a smooth, traditional scotch, Lagavulin or Laphroaig for peaty, smoky Scotch. They may require a little time to aquire a taste for them, but right now those are my 3 faves. 🙂

    • @TwoMooseDesign
      @TwoMooseDesign  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I totally agree! If you dont learn in that matter it doesn't matter how "easy" it is to make something with power tools. You need to know how to actually woodwork first to be successful in the end. You cant just glue wood together and call it good, it will fail. Sounds like he was an awesome teacher! I'll check those out thanks for the recommendations and watching. I appreciate it!

    So, in my view, Norm Abram is master woodcrafter who showcased his skills in his New Yankee Workshop television show. He’s considered on of the best by many and he would often adapt new tools and ways of doing things. I recall seeing him show off a dove tail jig and using a router rather than the traditional cabinetmaker’s way.
    There is little doubt he would be using all sorts of new tools we have today if his show was still being done today.
    I think it is important to know how things were done without the tools we have now. It pays respect to the hobby and the development within it.
    To those that may hate on your efforts, there is a little hypocrisy going on with that. You could say they don’t do things the way the old pioneers did. I don’t see folks felling trees and using an adze and every other hand tool under the sun for their projects. If someone is that old ways person, a tip of the hat to them. Anyone using any form of power tools in their projects is on the same path as you. They just have traveled as far on the journey.

    Those gatekeepers that say that using a CNC isn’t real woodworkers probably aren’t doing complete hand tool builds and are just jealous that they lack the skill it takes to use one.

      Table saws were once hated on too. I'm fine with people not liking new tools but dont bash others who chose to use them, If anything it allows more people to be creative.

    The reason ‘real’ woodworkers (such as myself) don’t like CNC is because it kinda pulls the ‘artistry’ out of it if that makes sense. A lot of my work gains most of its character from mistakes and quirks that come with hand work.
    I also hear a lot of words about “machine and software costs gate keeping people”, but I would be lying if I said I haven’t spent a table saw’s worth on chisels and rasps.
    And as for my personal opinion on the piece, it’s nice to see a tambour that isn’t just flat wood, like that one pattern plywood guy, but circles don’t cut my fancy.
