I didn't see any mistakes, only an highly skilled artisan 'fault-finding' and solving all issues in a mastery way. Another awe-inspiring project, gracefully crafted! Thank you for posting, all the best!
I am a newbie at woodworking, and it is very helpful to see you going round the problem you face. I wouldn't think that the grain of the wood would be that important on such a short piece of wood! Thanks for sharing !
Sometimes it's the little things: 1) You showed the entire process, mistakes, recoveries and all. 2) The vintage drawer pull harkening back to old library card catalogs, etc., really finishes the piece. 3) The end. (No spoiler, but it's so good.) Overall, a thing of beauty. And all from scrap timber!
Loved the call of the Common Koel at the end. It heralds the start of summer in Australia when it migrates from Indonesia. It arrives on the spring equinox, cuckolds various species, and flies off with the youngsters on the autumnal equinox.
With every video I get a little bit more knowledge and lots of inspiration. This one is no exception. Never knew how my grandma's breadboxes worked and now I know. Wish I could make one. Who knows, maybe someday. Thanks for the great videos! Really appreciate them and your work 😃👍
Great work once again Neal. I liked that you showed how sometimes you just have to think on the fly also liked that you showed how to fix mistakes and that you don’t have to completely make a new piece or start over.
This video was a rush to get done as I had to leave for a weekend away with the family! In the rush I forgot to add the theme tune. I uploaded the video before I left and now I’m away from home I can’t do anything about it. So it was either live with it or wait until next week! Sorry about that and don’t worry it will be back for the next episode! 😊
Very nice that you included your errors and did not try to hide them with editing. Thank you for that, it actually helps with confidence in tackling something like this because it shows that you can finish a project even when things go wrong part way through.
This episode of scrap wood challenge is proof that the videos them selves can stand alone. I know we all came for the theme song, but we stayed for the video. Great job on this one.
Excellent design and build. I agree with the comment below, I didn't see any mistake, I just saw a craftsman problem solving during the build process. Thanks for sharing your obvious skills. Best wishes.
This video was a joy to watch. As I am a hobbyist at woodwork I often make mistakes. I get so discouraged. I know mistakes will happen to the best of us, however seeing your mistake along with you fixing it has made an impact on how I look at my own work. Thank you for the unintended boost of confidence. Beautiful piece but the way! 👍👍
Nice job. Thanks for sharing your mistakes too. That helps. I often run into those 'oh I didn't think of that' issues when making stuff. Good to see you have that too and come to a great result.
I'm A craftsman. Or at least, I used to be. My health problems have gotten the best of me. One of my favorite things was to make small keepsake boxes. This one tops any that I ever made. 👍
Thank you again very nice. No obstacles just another little problem to solve and that's just part of the fun. I worked at a small mill shop and we would buy lumber of all sorts and species from a large supplier. They would sort orders of wood for their customers and guarantee them a very high quality. They would sell us truck loads of assorted lumber that they deemed slightly defective. The lumber was full of beautiful figure but their customers wanted clear straight boring stuff. Most of it was 5/4 thickness by any where from 8" to 24" wide and 16' in length. There would be several different types of conifers and then maple walnut beech cherry different oaks and even some redwood and cedar. I would sort them out resaw to our needs and our customers. Nothing much went to waste. Only the very smallest pieces fed a wood burning stove in our front office. Customers would bring around their projects to show them off they would have loved your channel it is right up their alley. Have a wonderful day.
That is a very nice design. One thing I noted during your routing of the curved groove with a template is that when you move the router in one direction, it's easy to keep it along the template, and in the other direction it's much harder. You routed in the "correct" direction for the first piece, and the "incorrect" direction the second piece. The spinning bit makes the router tend to move to the left as it proceeds, so it's best to have the template to the left. Highland Woodworking has an excellent article describing this: Google "routers go left".
Thanks Alan! You are absolutely right and I made sure to go the correct way the first time. The second time I just forgot everything that I should be doing and went for it. I didn’t realise I’d actually routered in the wrong direction until you pointed it out but it shows I was right in the fact that I was careless! 😊
Great video and nice looking build. Thanks for including the mistakes and your ideas for solving them. Each one you show and explain helps us build a library of strategies that we can use in future I builds.
Superb I love that you explain the little issues you have and your solutions to fix them. It's a huge benefit when making something if a mistake is made i now just take a breath and say ..... what would pask do... And i just find a solution
Hey Neil great video I used to make tambours all the time as a young apprentice and made them exactly the same way, (brought a tear to my eye). This video sent me back to my youth, Thanks mate!!
I like your stop motion style filming and the natural sounds / sped up sounds you include in your videos. It's really original for a build-style channel. Keep it up man!
Great video pask! If u notice at the 8:00 mark there are some insects on your bench and at the 8:19 mark you flip the box over and squash one of them ! lol that was great, I am wondering if anyone else caught that !!!!!
Nice !! My father was a cabinet maker & as a child I learned a lot hanging around his bench... but went on to become a machinist myself. Its only now in my 60s that I've come back to wood... 🙄😏 Wood is sooo much nicer to work with than steel... warmer & more tactile & the tools connect you more with the material... 😕 I've liked& subbed my friend... keep up the good work ! 😎👍☘
So beautiful! I love it when something works so cleanly. And that it became that way after a mistake as well just makes it even more special. It looks so much better that way rather than being a straight box.
Incredible! On IG, I mentioned that it reminds me of a breadbox that we used to have when I grew up. It also reminds me of roll top desks and somehow, also reminds me of the Robot in Lost in Space :)
Neil this is really awesome! So simple yet very practical. I can think of several uses for this type of cabinet, especially with the tambour opening at the same time as the drawer.
MUY buena calidad, el texto imagenes. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO Un manuel muy completo y trabajado. Resulta muy práctico. Para principiantes y profesionales. Lo recomiendo
Another great one, Neil! Love how the top opens automatically with the bottom of the drawer. What is the backer material? It just looked like paper to me, but was it something a little tougher than that?
You sir. You are one of the few that keeps amazing me. There’s this well tough simple elegance in your work. I can’t explain it very well but other than. Dude you’ve got some mad skills. Thanks.
Those would be great for kitchen package spices- Made Narrower and taller. When you pull the draw out, you reveal your drawer of spices, and atop, measuring spoons, recipes, and cards for new recipes .
The guy who never made a mistake never made anything. The great bit is showing the mistake and not hiding it, but more importantly how to rectify the mistake. Nice clear video of a really trick little box.
It certainly was incredibly satisfying to watch, let alone how it must have felt to build... Thank you for all your work on these videos, you've taught me a lot!
I did notice the absence of the theme tune, but it really didn't detract from the enjoyment of what is a fabulous and beautiful project. Well done, sir! And thanks for sharing. Guys (and girls) like you, doing your thang on TH-cam, are such a source of motivation and inspiration. Keep it up!
Such a wonderful video again! I love that you take the time to show us the misconceptions along the way, it gives so much more although I would understand it if someone wouldn't want to take the effort to show them... Beautiful project Pask, as always!

A craftsperson is not measured in how few mistakes they make, but in how many mistakes they fix. (Which is good, 'cause I make a LOT of mistakes!)
Thank you for the kind words! 😊
You didnt see mistakes because your an idiot

The mark of a true craftsman, is not perfection, but the ability to correct mistakes flawless. Another great build brother. Keep em coming.
Thanks very much Matthew! 😊
Exactly!

I love that you explain how, where, when and why you've made a mistake.
We learn with you and that's amazing.
I love this thing. The slide door connected to the back of the drawer is a super satisfying addition. Very well done!
Great work once again Neal. I liked that you showed how sometimes you just have to think on the fly also liked that you showed how to fix mistakes and that you don’t have to completely make a new piece or start over.
Thanks Scott!😊
I'm really in awe of your commitment to the scrapwood challenge. It's pretty inspiring to see so many creative ideas!
Glad you’re enjoying it!😊
I always admire your honesty when ever you make a mistake instead of just editing it out, gives hope to the rest of us. Great vid. Thks

I really missed it... 😂... I was singing it when I saw you had a new vid out and my wife was looking at me and laughing 😂
My favorite challenge video so far. May even be my favorite project of yours! Awesome work man!
I WAS SO CONFUSED AND SCARED! Had to sing it to myself to make up. Phew.
I had to go watch another video and listen to it
fiouf! i was worried it was gone for good! Awesome build, the instagram updates kept my hype pretty high haha.

No worries Ric! Everyone makes mistakes, you just have to deal with them or start again and learn from it! 😊
Looks like a very satisfying build. Love the sound it makes when closing. Nice one!
I reckon it was Scott - glad you liked it mate! 😊
Seems so simple, yet it isn't. Elegant and intricate. Once more, you're creations fascinate me. Congratulations!
Thanks Ludovic! 😊
Excellent job. You also did a fine job training the ants on your bench.
Really cool Neil! I'm continually inspired by your craftsmanship and that you share your goof ups and how you fix them.
Thanks very much Jason! 😊
Wonderful box, I enjoyed your trial and error too, I'm grateful you decided to show us you working through problems. Thank you!

"Hey Mr Tambour-ing Man" - nice job. Quite a result!

I've never seen a tambour being made. Fascinating! Thanks for such wonderful content.
Really cool. Important that you showed the mistake and recovery. I think I have found my next project.
Many thanks for developing this project

I did.
Me too, it seems the box also works as a fly swatter!
I was swatting them from across the pond, sighed in relief that you finally got them.
I think the fly survived as the lip on the edge saved it.
shhh..... it's secret wood finish.
You a are a true master of your art sir and a inspiration to any professional woodworkers, keep up the good work. Regards from the Isle of Man

Phenomenal Tambour Box Pask! Enjoy your weekend away!
Thanks Eric!😊
8:18 RIP to that fly that got crushed. You will -not- be missed.
if you continue to watch the video you will notice it crawls out from under there as if nothing happened
What a cool little project you came with for the scrap wood challenge!! Always a joy watching your videos,William
Okay, this is a way cooler project than I thought it was going to be.
Very nice build Pask! I am continually amazed at the things that you come up with to make out of scrap wood. Way to go................ :)
Thanks mate! 😊
Hmmm. Could be adapted for a bread garage with a pullout cutting board.
Think the crumbs might stop it working!
So beautiful! I love it when something works so cleanly. And that it became that way after a mistake as well just makes it even more special. It looks so much better that way rather than being a straight box.

Thanks mate! I wouldn’t mind one of those bread boxes, I might have to make one! 😊
From one photog to another...that is he superior port! Bravo my friend
Love your channel Pask, your an inspiration to us all.
wow!! just wow!! such a brilliant project and demystifies the Tambour Box for me. Thanks Neil!!
Cool project. Great tip on the wood grain direction. I may have done the same thing.
Thanks mate!😊
Possibly the best project so far in this series, Great work...
After watching a good number of these videos I think where Mr. Pask is concerned there is no such thing as “scrap wood”.
Firewood turned into something beautiful. Very nicely done.
Esse trabalho resume a uma só palavra:perfeição.
One of the nicest box builds I seen yet.
Thank you! 😊
How clever! Very neat!
Neil this is really awesome! So simple yet very practical. I can think of several uses for this type of cabinet, especially with the tambour opening at the same time as the drawer.
Very impressive work, mate! You are a very skilled man, I wish that I had your patience!
That is the coolest box I've seen anyone make on TH-cam.
Thanks very much Ross! 😊

Best Scrapwood Challenge yet and indeed one of the best woodworking projects on youtube in quite some time!
Thanks very much mate!😊
On your website the shirt you wearing is written Mambo
In my language it means the King
Outstanding craftsmanship and I thoroughly enjoyed watching even though I lack woodworking skills. Thank you.
Original, high quality and very informative. Thank.
Thanks for always showing your problem solving techniques!
Not that is clever! Good one there and thank you for sharing it.
Been wanting to incorporate tambour into a project for a few months now - thanks for sharing the process!
Another great one, Neil! Love how the top opens automatically with the bottom of the drawer. What is the backer material? It just looked like paper to me, but was it something a little tougher than that?
Thanks Bruce - glad you liked it mate! The backer was canvas, it was actually photo canvas as I had a few scraps of it lying around! 😊
Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. It was very tight knit, so I didn't recognize it.
You sir. You are one of the few that keeps amazing me. There’s this well tough simple elegance in your work. I can’t explain it very well but other than. Dude you’ve got some mad skills. Thanks.
Watching it again. I swear my brain smelled the glue at 6:30
Thanks very much mate - glad you enjoy my work! 😊
This is an outrage! D:<
Cool project :)

Прекрасная работа!

Отличная работа!!!
Very nice piece you have the touch of "Midas" you are the master of perfection.
I would say "Wow", and would like to make one sometimes... ;-)
Maybe never haha
Mistakes! Never Neil, you're just engineering the problem until it does what you intended.. Just brilliant mate.
Without the theme tune I thought I had gone deaf... 👍
You’re freaking joking! This is incredible! The way it functions is so cool!
What is the fabric that was used to hold the slats together?
Great project again pask
yes i also want to know
Third that, really want to know.
Looked like canvas or cotton duck
On the tambour I made for my roll top desk I used heavyweight canvas.
Is there a way I can get a copy of your sketch plans with dimensions? Would love to build that.
This is beautiful! I have been fascinated with this design for a long time. Thanks for sharing the process of making one.
Parabéns ficou muito show
It certainly was incredibly satisfying to watch, let alone how it must have felt to build...
Thank you for all your work on these videos, you've taught me a lot!
Everybody! Scrap wood challenge, Scrap wood challenge....
Miss the intro
Neil another great vid. Really appreciate that we get the full adventure, warts and all.
No worries Andrew! 😊
You will be getting tired of the comment I make but Sir you are bloody brilliant
Thanks very much Keith! 😊
What a satisfying project it must be when you pull out that draw and see the top slide open for the first time :)
I'm not ashamed to say I sang it out loud anyway...
It's like the Morteen add from the past. Louy the fly is burnt into our brain. :D
@@cobberpete1 He's bad and mean and mighty unclean :D th-cam.com/video/QcO2UlIMkpo/w-d-xo.html
Great project sir! May you never run out of scrap wood!!
did anyone see the bug on the right just walking in circles at 8:01
Or how he just flopped the drawer down on top of 2 of them at one point?
I did notice the absence of the theme tune, but it really didn't detract from the enjoyment of what is a fabulous and beautiful project. Well done, sir! And thanks for sharing. Guys (and girls) like you, doing your thang on TH-cam, are such a source of motivation and inspiration. Keep it up!
No worries Sebastian - glad you find the videos helpful! 😊
No theme tune! Thats the only reason we watch!!! UNSUBSCRIBED!!!
So deeply clever. Your capacity for imaginative design is just amazing.
Such a wonderful video again! I love that you take the time to show us the misconceptions along the way, it gives so much more although I would understand it if someone wouldn't want to take the effort to show them...
Beautiful project Pask, as always!
Neil, you nailed it again. Thanks for your creativity!
You are great Neil, enjoy the week end with your family!
What a darling little tambour box! Wow.
