This speaks to me so well - in last 2022 I had 2 12-lead ECGs, a 48 hour monitor and then echo done by Dr Sanjay Gupta (most people in the cardiophobia space will know who this legend is) and I was told that my heart is "completely normal and I am the wrong kind of doctor for your problem". Now in June 2023, out of what feels like nowhere, I am having so many flutters and skips and thuds and double beats. I check my pulse in my neck and I can feel the gaps and flutters and it gets so worrying. This sucks so much after months of progress with getting back into running, hiking and weight lifting. Feel like I need to go back for every test all over again, Really does ruin your life!

This video and your comment chimed with me completely. I’m 63 now & I’ve struggled with this for years, on & off. I’ve always been fairly healthy & active. (I still work as a gardener). I used to love walking up mountains, cycling & swimming, but all this stopped after a sudden Atrial Fibrillation episode a decade ago. It hasn’t recurred, but I had years of very scary heart symptoms after this event. Strangely, they seem to have decreased with age, maybe because I’ve become so reluctant to exert myself too much! I think the sheer complexity of our mind, nervous system and fight / flight system is at the root of a great deal of these actual cardiac symptoms. The heart is only trying to cope with all this activity and often doing its very best in the circumstances. We should love & respect it…even when it grumbles!

i had skipped beat for over 10 years and it only started to freak me out since i have bad anxiety. This year i had fluttering for the first time and it freaked me out so much. I was like wtf my heart is beating like crazy what is happening am i going to drop dead in a second. I thought pounding racing heart was scary until i had my first heart fluttering experience this year. now everytime my hearts skips i am scared it will start flutttering again :S I had a 24hour ecg done and ofcourse my heart only skipped like 3 times lightly. Doctor told me that they are benign and not coming from a dangerous place. But damn that fluttering is so scary :S

I thought I'm the only one suffering from this. I have three little kids, and I am terrified being alone with them. I love them so much. I have an image in my head of my dead body and my scared and helpless children around it. I suffer from panic attacks when I'm trying to sleep, because when I try to relax, I feel my heart beating and sometimes "skipping beats" and I feel that I'm going to die instantly.
Sometimes I find it comforting that I will only die once, and my children will probably survive. Either my husband gets home or my oldest will seek help from neighbors. I've suffered for 6 months, and I'm still alive. The fear is really really awful, but I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one.

This was such a great relief to hear. So glad we're not alone. Is it weird to say I think I'm okay, but when I go okay, I'm going to get up and do the laundry or check the mail then immediately my mind goes, "this might be the day." so I just don't do anything. I wait until my boyfriend is home to even cook to eat. I've had maybe four ekgs in hospitals that came back fine, one from a cardiologist. She scheduled me a different day for stress test and halter but I didn't go. But I'd love to get another appointment that's close by just to find out specifically what those thumps are. Those aren't helping me neither. I've done cardio though and even step cardio at home many times. I survived and step aerobics is really invigorating too so I think I'm okay, I just need to get all the testing I need done so I can say I did everything I could. Anyway, love your video. I'm so glad you're helping people like us as well. It's inspiring! 😊

You can definitely experience palpitations, flutters, skips and all manner of ridiculousness as a result of being worried or having anxious thoughts. I would highly recommend the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. It teaches how to keep your mind from "racing" and catastrophizing everything that "could" happen to you and instead helps you remain in the present.
Our minds have the power to physically affect our bodies. Anxiety can easily create heart palpitations, flutters, skips, dizziness, chest pain, numbness and all manner of personal torment and hell.
Anxiety will not kill you. Go get examined by a doctor and tell them you are suffering from anxiety but you want to rule out any medical reasons.
I'll finish with a great quote that saw me through some of my darkest days dealing with fear and anxiety.
"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
    ~Franklin D. Roosevelt

I love this. I’m here because I went through a bad phase of cardiophobia and I got over it tbh , but last night I had a heart palpitation (anxiety related) and I got it into my head that something was wrong with my heart / breathing and I was out of rhythm or something. It’s extremely exhausting. But I know it’s my anxiety and intrusive thoughts trying to make me feel anxious and worried..
I like that quote though. A lot.
I just feel like I’ve been reaching for things to be wrong subconsciously and it’s so hard for me to focus on positive things. It’s like a tic. That thought just keeps popping up.
      Do you have any advice?

I literally have felt every single one of your symptoms, but the chest pains that feel like they’re actually pains in my heart followed by bad headaches, pain in my left eye, where it feels like it will explode, and upper back/shoulder pain. It really sucks because it feels like I’m constantly going to have a heart attack and then when I feel good, i think that I’m really gonna die because they say high bp is quiet and some people don’t feel anything so I feel sick when I feel sick and also when I feel well. Didn't know this thing existed before this vid but I most certainly have it. My 5 year long and ongoing Anxiety actually started with cardiophobia that somewhat lingers to this day but isn't so severe. Still it prevents me from starting medications and causes insomnia. Back in the day I couldn't even sit or sleep without thinking about my heart. I was sure that in the next moment I would just drop dead. And each little pain I felt was a sign of a heart attack. More often than not I had to go trough a panic attack to calm back down.
Nowadays I can jog a little bit. I do it on purpose almost daily to get exposure and to stay somewhat healthy. But even after all this exposure after my pulse rises above a certain treshold I feel a strong urge to stop. And after that I get anxiety and a new "little trauma" mixed with reassurance after almost every jog. I wonder if the jogging exposure itself is contributing to chronic stress... Who knows ?
Thanks for these videos. They are reassuring.

@@dignifieddan.4198 sorry to hear. I’m not a doctor or qualified to give advice but the first thing to do is get checked out by a GP then a cardiologist. You can’t self diagnose. Once that’s done you move onto the next step which is allowing the sensations and symptoms to be and change your minds perception of them.
My journey into the anxiety abyss started in early 2014 when I started having chest pains and tightness 24/7, the more I focused on it the worse it got. I then had a massive panic attack and nervous breakdown. I got checked out and all was well but it was short lived and I went into psychosis of checking, googling symptoms and worse case scenarios raced through my head 34/7 making 2014 the worst year of my life. ER trip, countless GP visits, therapy, medication, irrational avoidance behaviour, panic attacks, the whole shebang. Every minute of every day was in anticipation of the “big one” the heart attack. I spent most of the last decade struggling but it’s been 5 years since ER visits, 4 since medication. The last 3 months have been relatively anxiety free. I can deal with the thoughts and bodily sensations. The thuds and palpitations no longer have me calling an ambulance.
No googling symptoms. Just keep walking every day, eat well, avoid energy vampires and toxic people. Cut anyone or anything off that makes your life a drag. You have to or you’ll never be happy.
To recap, get the tests, accept the unknown, keep busy with the things you love in life and you’ll be fine. Life is uncertain and nobody knows what’s coming. Best to be brave and live a full life rather than cower under the jackboot of anxiety!

I got over mine by literally working out. The more you worry and stress over it, the more damage you do to your heart and mental health. If overweight people can lose weight and not worry and their heart is fine, then you shouldn’t worry at all. Plus working out makes a stronger heart which means less and less chances of getting a disease

It started with a massive panic attack…I did many panic attacks in the past, but this one really made my heart pounding like it wanted to get out of my chest. I was sure I was going to die, like 99% sure, so the experience terrified me. This episode happened a year ago, and now I’m back (since years) to exercice again…and believe me, it’s a struggle. I can’t drink even one glass of alcool now cause I feel my heart pounding, I take my pulse many times a day. At night ,I’m hyper vigilant and I can just feel my heart pounding. On the opposite, just the thought that I have a heart and it’s beating since I’m in my mother’s wound makes me anxious…I know it’s not logical thoughts but that’s my kind of anxiety.

Even reading the word "heart" is somewhat triggering for me. But I don't think it is an illogical fear. And that is precisely what makes the fear of it so potent and a huge problem. Sorry if this is triggering but there is no other way to describe it. For me it is scary because there is "a lump of pumping muscle" inside of me that I have almost no control over. If it decides to go crazy or even stop, I can't help it. It seems to be out of my control.
I see my own heart, the thing that is keeping me alive, as a threat. It's sad. But this wasn't always the case. I wonder what changed along the way ?

Great stuff. I had heart disease when I was young, and that got fixed but later when I was 20 I had pericarditis and ended up in the hospital for many days. Since then I started getting worried with my heart and had 5 or 6 years of panic attacks. All that was sorted thankfully but there is still one last piece of the puzzle I can’t seem to solve :( Randomly, but more times when I stop running, I get a scary flutter in the centre of the chest only for a split second that makes you want to cough. Almost like you lose your breath for that second. Sometimes one straight after the other. Doesn’t last more than 30secs or so. I stop a bit and then carry on running or doing whatever I was doing. Had them laying down sometimes too. More recently had a bigger episode that I think triggered my anxiety to the point my heart went up and down like crazy and ended up calling the ambulance and did several ECGs blood test etc all fine. Ended stopping the gym with worry, and first day I went back(after nearly a month), as soon as I started my session felt one of them flutters, heart went from 90 to 145, palpitations, shacking etc. Had to stop the workout and was a waste. Now I’m not sure which way to go, as I done many ECGs, many blood tests too. All I can think is must be anxiety induced still, and I don’t know how to fix it for good

    • @shanbazall
      @shanbazall 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hey. How are you doing today?
I've had those exact flutters that you speak of. I feel it in the chest and throat and it makes me cough. It raises my pulse, makes me sweat and I get a hot flash while I reach for my phone as a safety measure. It feels like a mini panic attack or like a tiger just jumped on me from a bush. I get them twice a week while sitting or when laying in bed and this has been happening for 2 years now. I'm scared of workout but I do it anyway, while keeping my pulse at reasonable levels. That said, it is still very limiting and anxiety inducing when it happens.
I don't know if it's the heart, but it certainly feels like it. If I'm not mistaken, Arrhythmias are actually common and occur in most people, even healthy ones. They can be observed in EKG. Or it could be some nerve firing in the chest and neck area ?
So far my method has been to accept it. To respect it. And to live with it. Trying to eat healthy and excercise a bit. I haven't started investigating further, as every time I do, I only get more anxious.
Please do tell if you happen find out something about this "flutter" thing.

Yeah I am still going through same and afraid to exercise too...I am afraid every minute of the day that my heart isnt strong enough and might stop, when I get skip beats I freak out even after test, the assurance only last a day and the next day I am back to the obsession.
Mine started with a huge panic attack caused by my so many gut issues and ever since I just can't help it...I feel like I get more than 10 heart attacks a day with the arm pain and recently I stopped trusting my BP monitor and went to get a smart watch, now I feel I can't trust the smart watch and need to get another BP monitor....just can't help but worry😢

It all started for me when a young boy in my neighbourhood died of an heart attack but that night it really messed me up i started thinking that something like that could happen to me at any given moment too which led to me having constant anxiety about it i started googling everything which made it even worst id have panic attacks and i would end up at the hospital when i would get the results i would be happy that everything was fine but since it was the pandemic i couldnt leave the house very much which made it so much more worse it would be constantly on my mind 24/7 it always made me feel like i was going to die so id find more things that were wrong with me to distract myself from the heart but id eventually end up back there anyway its been almost 4 years now its gotten better but now i get it only when i am about to sleep my heart rate goes up and i feel like somethings wrong so i am avoiding sleep i just want to sleep its so bad i wish there was jusf a switch to elevate anxiety

I am 32 years male, I have overcome with the fear of cardiophobia in very short time maybe in couple of months after my first panic attack it shredded me in pieces.
it started like I see a video of a young man died of cardiac arrest and I was at the point of shivering day and night watching my pulse breathing issues and all other shit, height was when I was going through all this I didn't knew I was going through cardiophobia
So cut short coming to the healing process, I am strong believer in God and daily practice my Muslim religion, I came across over few verses in Glorious Quran about death which relaxed me to an extent all the symptoms started to vanish and the fear of death vanished totally, I have mentioned below may be that will help
    Chapter 3:145
(No soul can die except without the permission of god at an appointed time).
Explanation of the verse means God has already decreed our time of death and certainly it will come that single moment we can't survive before that none can harm you so no point of thinking death 24/7, people stuck in this anxiety from years, I say if God has written 95 years of age for you and you have a death anxiety at 35 bro you are ruining your life
    Quran
(4:78) Wherever you might be, death will overtake you even though you be in massive towers.
    Third verse from Glorious Quran
    Chapter 39:42
(God takes the souls at the time of their death, and souls of those that do not die during their sleep. Then He keeps the souls of those for which He has decreed death and releases the souls of others in morning for a appointed time. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought).
Explanation of the verse means we are dying daily in our sleep so there's no point of fearing death again god said there's a appointed time for death hence no point of thinking death daily and wasting precious time.
Other things which really helped me was walking alone in evening atleast 45 minutes and convencing myself that your heart is okay otherwise you wouldn't able to walk this much heart patients unable to walk, your mind need arguments to calm down, mind don't understand direct affirmation that you are okay.
Lastly I started watching few videos of people who are suffering from cancer and doctor told them they don't have much time, that really struck me that I have no diseases still I am overreacting and not appreciating the time God gave me to live and make myself and others happy.
At the end just don't keep constant focus on your heart.

I never had a panic attack in my life until little less than a year ago. I was smoking with a friend and I got a crazy bad panic attack, I realized my heart rate was 160 and rising (while laying down!) and I started to think to myself what If I died and where was I going to end up. When I started thinking about that I started to have what I can only explain as “hot flashes” if you know what hot flashes are then you know how scary they can be. Ever since then I’ve been trying to better myself and get rid of unhealthy things such as sugary foods/drinks, caffeine, drugs, alcohol, its now got to the point where it is hard to exercise or have my heart rate increased in any type of way that it starts to scare me.

Surely a test that actually visualises your coronary arteries is the best way to convince someone any chest pains is not angina or a heart attack ?
A full angiogram where they put tube into an artery in your groin or arm and then inject a dye into the coronary arteries is best but has a tiny risk . Therefore, a CT angiogram where a dye is injected into a vein in your arm and outlines the coronary arteries is a good compromise as it's about 95% accurate, so only a tiny chance of missing something .

    • @POC88
      @POC88 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

ECG isn't massively reliable it can be off and sinus tachycardia is not an issue just means heart was lightly high. A 48 hour ECG tape would show anything. I did a 48 hour ECG and it came back borderline, referred to speciliast and he said I wouldnt have referred you at all, unless you have Afib or something obvious its likely anxiety

In the days following I still had palpitations and started googling my symptoms convincing myself I did permanent damage. Eventually I went to the hospital and had some tests done all came back fine but ever since then I’ve been crazy obsessed with my heart.
