      How was it “off”.
It was run for over 30 minutes beforehand. Then the cam broke. Because it had a casting fault and the extra set of valve springs finished it off.

Technically the fan is supposed to go one way in order to push or pull enough air through the alternator for cooling. I have heard of guys bashing the alternator fan flat and bending the blades back the other way to reverse it (so the air flow goes the same way as before when you spin the alternator backwards). I'm willing to bet in a lot of hot rod and custom car circumstances though that there isn't enough current draw for the alternator to get too hot anyway, and probably still plenty enough airflow with the fan running backwards.

Looks great; something about stuffing the biggest engine you can find in moderately sized chassis feels quint essentially Australian to me. Maybe because OEM Ozzie manufacturers did that from day one. Commodore chassis which we knew as Opels never got more than a 6 cilinder where in AUS that was the base engine. Same as the Ford longroof you did, the base engine in Europe was a tiny 1.2l 4 cilinder. Same chassis, same size.. Similar story goes for a lot of other GM and Ford products. Australia was (most of it is dead and gone) quite unique in that way.
