Today on The Skid Factory We're kicking off another Barra Build!
Wayne's XE Falcon Longroof is an OG Shed build which was originally built back in 2015 with a Turbo Nissan VH41 V8, It's been cruising the streets of the Sunshine Coast ever since until recently when a side feed injector o-ring left the chat and hydraulic locked the engine.
There was a couple of options to fix the car but one obvious choice became apparent.

Don't know about you, but Old mates workshop looks clinically clean, a good indication or organisation and professionalism. awesome stuff
An engine builder's shop better be heaps cleaner than a grimy mechanic shop... Notice how things are covered in cloth *despite* the shop being clean. At the really high end shops they have a separate engine assembly room where parts are moved to after machining, cleaning and inspection. Just to make that last bit of extra mega monster sure that a pesky little metal shard from the machining area doesn't find it's way in to the client's high-dollar build and ruin a bearing surface before the fun has even started.

Can you import one from Australia mate, the NA barra engine over here are dirt cheap
@@BennyBestt I think it's more down to parts availability unless you've got the bread to also import spares of everything the way mechanical Stig did for raceweek, a Barra in America would probably leave you on the side of the road when you were just on your way to pick up whatever the crappy-american-equivalent-of-a-lemon-squash would be, lmao😂😂😂

I’ve got the same camshafts in my fg xr6 turbo.
They do sound different on idle, on the stock tune. They sound even better when they’re tuned.
But wait till you see how much top end it picks up. They sound unreal and they’re one of the best decisions I’ve made
I run the 218-c in mine with a vct delete they sound awesome.
@@matman429 I can imagine they’d sound pretty good considering what mine were like. Only reason I didn’t go with those is so I could maintain vct

@@eksnay kelford offer a 218-ez as a plug n play replacement which is pretty close to the factory grind. Good as a replacement for pitted factory camshafts

These Oz versions were modeled on the Ford Granada, also German designed.
I remember me and the lads buying a $250 XE Wagon Bush Basher mid 2000s. Absolutely flogged it into disrepair, It would not slow down. Now I'm doing a XF Turbo Barra build, and it's costing a lot more that $250... All for good times!!...
My best friends old man had one of these Falcons when I was a kid, thought it looked a bit weird at the time. Fast forward a looooong time and it’s a very cool retro beast!.
XE Falcons will always look timeless.
They are a beautiful car. Classic look.

Fellas, this is exactly what I needed! Currently doing a similar build (not chasing quite as much power though) for my soon to be barra swapped 89 Ford Maverick with an RE4. Been a long time supporter of the channel and looking forward to following the rest of this build and whatever builds you have in store next!

We just discovered how difficult it is to remove the rear seat base. I am in pain today.

I left Ford for Nissan and Mazda after having to put EAs back together for a year at the end of my 4 years 😁

Been telling people for a while now that turbo motors aren’t worth it and while green tops make good power they’re not reliable. Built junkyard barra is the way to go! Awesome work as always guys.

11 .8 - 11 = .8 ( point eight mm over ) So true 3 times the parts . Hope it went well . The BA is the hardest to remove the OCV s . Ford are very clever with Finance , in my experience says Ford pistons are budget pistons because that's the market they are sold to in the Falcon which is too short for the Barra motor . Germany must love Barra rebuilders ( pistons , rods chains , bolts , all after market)

Yeahhh boi! You got me back on this one… last build was awesome but almost no one else is going to do that…. I’m more of a Nissan/holden fan but damn the barra is some good Aussie engineering and I’m weird but I really like the xd/xe shape for some unknown reason…

A lot of us would love to do a basic build on these and a few other popular engines but its probably never going to happen so its awesome to be able to watch it and see the results .keep it up

Are the holes for the cam girdles blind? I've always thought that oiling a blind hole is a bad idea, because it creates hydraulic pressure when the bolt is tightened

Man used to have a 1980 Nissan/dahtsun wagon that had the big 6 like the z cars with mechanical injection that car hauled ass on good gas and would cruise 85mph all day and a front seat more comfortable than a couch dang frame rotted in half I wish I had pulled the engine and trans out of it before I scrapped it
