That's good to hear that people are still playing the game today without knowing anything before they play. I wish I could forget all the story to feel the emotion again even if the emotion is still there everytime I played or watch cinematics. The emotion is even stronger when I remembered playing mgs 1 with my brother at 8 years old and 10 years later knowing all the end of the story. One of the most emotionnal thing is coming back to shadow moses, what a memories you got when you played mgs 1 when you were kids. I could explore every details for hours ! :)

Guns of the Patriots is a cinematic, video gaming, musically composed masterpiece. Its quite possibly is the greatest overall video game/movie of all time.
playing 5 after seeing this feels like a drastic shift, because I could actually play the game instead of being interrupted by cutscenes every 5 seconds
I remember playing this, I'd waited like everyone else for ages. I thought it was a brilliant kind of tour-de-metal gear. It ties all the games up to that point(except the multiple big boss thing) together and if you played them all like me, it was just super exciting. Going back to shadow moses was one of my best gaming experiences ever. It was literally like I'd been there before when I was younger. Genius.
So they did actually explain that, unfortunately it wasn't here. Essentially with the first two metal gear games. The first big boss you kill is the man who was running mother base in five. In metal gear two, it was the real big boss who was then put into a comatose state. At least that's what I've been told.
Damn. I just realized that. There's so much care into it too. All the angles, all the movements that have to be animated. And not to mention, some cutscenes are interactable. Movies don't even touch games when it comes to telling a fully fleshed-out story.
@@GrubKiller436 yeah when i first played this game it the first time i came to the full realization that games are going to start giving movies a run for their money and i was right.
Yeah too bad it breaks literally every rule of good storytelling and the plot itself is a mess. There's a lot of good stuff in this game, but really, Kojima dropped the ball here and there's a ton of movies better than MGS4.
I'd like to see someone with good storytelling chops trim this down to the length of a single film. Filmic storytelling is built on momentum and momentum doesn't carry over seven and a half hours.
How dooes Big Boss have the audacity to say this nonsense when Solid SNAKE spent the better part of his life enacting Boss's will and cleaning Big Boss's mess?
This game, almost like a legendary film that You can watch over and over, without getting tired or bored watching it, is only as awesome as Metal Gear Solid 1997 (PSX)...mixed emotions through all this story, a real piece of gaming legend my fellows!!
This game is a masterpiece. One of the best games I’ve ever come across. The characters resonate with you and the story keeps you thinking about it all the time. Hideo Kojima is a genius.
Rest in peace snake, your legacy will live on not in a konami game, but a Nintendo game, because we know that nintendo wont make a pachinko machine out of you. Rip big boss.
Watching this video after not having played this in four or five years now makes me have rethink a few things: the game is not gritty enough, I don't like Drebin nor his monkey, the Geckos are a silly idea, and don't get me started on the "Beauty and the Beast Corps". Minor points and I still want to play it - it's a great game part of an even greater series.
I’ve always been fascinated by the villains in this game. They are the most frightening yet deeply written (story wise) at the same time. They look military, yet have a “witchcraft” to them. They use technology, yet still have the capability to use some form of magic that can’t be described. I wish I got the chance to play the full game. I was only 10 years old when this game came out
KefkaProduction I understand there's a lot to talk about in this comment section, but I don't feel that you're been praised enough. You've obviously spent hours, and hours editing this to make it right, and recording it of course. So thank you for that. I'm unable to get a PS3, so I needed to catch up on the lore in preparation for Phantom Pain. This also explained a lot of things which happened in MGR. Thank you~
Snake has had a "hard" life?? Goddamn understatement of the century. When you really think about it, Snake has had the saddest life one could ever have.
+miasma1616 Well the virus was modified in a way that Ocelot didn't know about. He died believing the Patriots were eradicated, the world would become the wild west, and Big Boss' vision was a reality. I do see what you are getting at however.
In a way Ocelot was right.. Humanity inevitably would get back to where it was. He couldn't trust future generations with their own future. So he wanted to destroy authority itself, while old snake wanted to keep the status quo without the Patriots in control. Ocelot/Adam was right.
All right when the fuck was it even mentioned or said that he went over budget "twice"? Where the fuck are you getting this information from? And where did fuck did this whole "disrespect" his boss nonsense is coming? Because the first claim is factually not true and the second claim is in heavy need of evidence. He wasn't fired he quit. Him getting fired is a misconception that is just spreading around. Konami flat out made a statement that kojima would for the company on twitter even though that was a flat out lie since he was clearly leaving. www.vg247.com/2015/10/20/konami-says-hideo-kojima-is-on-vacation-didnt-leave/ How about actually try doing some research next time.
Dude nice editing on this gameplay to movie video. I like how its not just the cutscenes but discrete splices of gameplay between cutscenes so that the viewer can see how one cutscene connects to the other. Also I like how you spliced in a scene of that guy with the bowel problem doing the little need to go the the potty dance, really good job mate.
funny thing about this whole series is that Liquid, Big Boss and Ocelot are actually the good guys trying to free humanity from The Patriots control. Snake and Otacon are just pawns for The Patriots. Doing whatever they are told, without really knowing what the real mission is... The "PLAYER" is getting played into thinking they are the hero, while we are fighting for the powers that control us... Fucking Kojima. Konami will forever look back at how they treated Kojima as the moment in time that the lost relevancy in the gaming landscape. Kojima should be running Konami right now.
Cutz McVascular Fuck Konami forever for how they treated Kojima and frankly all of their IP. That being said, by the time Liquid is in control I don’t feel that they are fighting for good. No Mother Base, no haven for soldiers; their aim is to become, or rather, take control of the systems the Patriots created. By this point, they just wanted to replace the king, not destroy him.
I don't think you understood what Big Boss's goal was for the world. His ideal was similar to The Patriots, only difference is that soldiers are free from any nations or ideologies or systems of control. He wanted to monopolize military power, and as such, rule the world. Solid Snake and the rest were pawns that failed to complete the Patriots mission. The AI is destroyed, there's no more control of information, ideas, and emotional reactions to such things. They set everyone free. So yeah, the player played the good guy. In MGS5, we're actually playing the bad guy, and it's very obvious we're playing a bad guy; who's just trying to get back at another bad guy.
Yep, this game was ahead of it's time. It looks better than 99% of the new console games and has gameplay to match. Loads of replayability as well...just like all MGS games.

5:01:33 this part hits me everytime Raiden trying to desperately save his only friend and mentor he cuts off his own arm to be there to save him.. then when snake screams "NO" cuts waaay too deep.

Guns of the Patriots is a video game not a movie.
I'm thinking he's talking about kefka putting it together like a movie
may as well be a movie from what I've heard and the 7 hours of cutscenes, as well as holding not one, but two cutscene world records.
playing 5 after seeing this feels like a drastic shift, because I could actually play the game instead of being interrupted by cutscenes every 5 seconds
And the best multiplayer, MGO II was awesome!
This game has the record for longest single cut scene at 27 min and longest sequence of cutscenes at 71 min. Amazing.
Otacon seriously can't catch a break. First Emma now Naomi

Technically it was Sniper Wolf that came first before Emma.
Christian r His step mom seduced him in the first place! She started it and wanted it. At a time like that, he probably wasn't capable of saying no.

MGS4, All cutscenes, is the length of 4-5 full-length movies.
Checkmate, Hollywood.

I’ve always been fascinated by the villains in this game. They are the most frightening yet deeply written (story wise) at the same time. They look military, yet have a “witchcraft” to them. In a way Ocelot was right.. Humanity inevitably would get back to where it was. He couldn't trust future generations with their own future. So he wanted to destroy authority itself, while old snake wanted to keep the status quo without the Patriots in control. Ocelot/Adam was right.

funny thing about this whole series is that Liquid, Big Boss and Ocelot are actually the good guys trying to free humanity from The Patriots control.
Exactly after playing mgsV it made me actually upset solid snake killed venom and big boss. He was the hand of the patriots for 3 games.
@@ushyamamoto7098 he didn't kill big boss, big boss died in the cemetary at the end

This is a truly Masterpiece. It changed my Life, back in 2010 when i first played it. It was my first Metal Gear also, and now after have played and replayed all the games it all make sense for me. The ending is just amazing, you cant control the crying. I'll miss this awesome franchise...long live Metal Gear Solid!
Cícero B. I grew up with MGS.
Seeing my favorite franchise grow older with me was what made it pull on my heart strings that much harder.
Seeing Shadow Moses abandoned and derelict... Hearing Snake saying "Just like old times" upon acquiring the socom... playing MGS1 in the intro portion...
The game reduced me to tears and still does to this day.
I'm thoroughly impressed that anyone could be encouraged to play the rest of the series based on an entry that is completely inaccessible to outsiders.
“Campbell’s kid?” And the boy is like 100% him’s 😆
