Y'know, I don't think I really appreciated it when I played the game myself, but listening to it here (especially in cutscenes, without the radio filter), you can actually tell that Troy Baker worked really hard to emulate Patrick Zimmerman's distinctive Ocelot rasp. Like, say what you will about choosing to make middle-aged Ocelot sound that deep, but Baker definitely didn't just do his regular Troy Baker voice for this one.
I do respect Troy and his work, but why does he have such a (relatively) thick southern accent? You could maybe explain away that "he didn't in MGS3, because they were almost always talking Russian all of them", but I don't feel like it was this thick in MGS1 either?
That Kojima speech at the end made me so sad. Because of all the people who only know how to complain instead of appreciating all the hard work Kojima put into this game. Good job Kefka on this movie. I definitely will find time to sit through and watch the whole thing (though not all at once).

Which is very sad. Unless Metal Gear 1 and 2 get remakes and Ocelot is reworked into those games' plot somehow. Like, interacting with Venom and Big Boss from behind the scenes and whatnot before the former's demise at the hands of Solid Snake. 😪
@@gjtrue that would be really hard, specially considering that Solid Snake met him for the first time in MGS1/TTS, so they would have to involve him without having him to ever see Snake.
@@crystalalumina True. But I mean Ocelot meeting the real Big Boss while both are up to no good with Solid Snake none the wiser while dealing with Venom. And by Metal Gear 2 (MSX), Ocelot and Big Boss could still be keeping in contact to some extent, again with Solid not being aware he even exists until the events of Metal Gear Solid/Shadow Moses. 🥰
lts a shame that one of Kaz's final lines wasnt put in, it happens after Shining Lights and he realises that pursuing his revenge wouldnt do anytning to make his pain better and realised that Snake always knew this.
‘Facts do not exist, only interpretations’ Big Boss is not an objective character, he is an idea. No matter who brandishes the name, the idea still exists. Therefore Venom nor Naked are actually Big Boss, both are interpretations of the idea, both have represented Big Boss. Both are Big Boss.
I love the editing on this, even though it's 9 hours, it actually gives you the transitions between each cutscene instead of jumping which often confuses or raises questions for the viewer. Great job.
I have mixed feelings about the mission "Shining lights, even in death". Venom kills his own men one by one slowly becoming a "demon". But when you think about it he's becoming more of a hero with every kill. He kills his own men because he couldn't allow the parasite to reach other parts of the world. He essentially saves the human race from a pandemic. A lesser man would let his friends, his "family" live on despite the fact that the world will suffer from an outbreak.
+Stefan Mirzay The "demon" Venom becomes is a manifestation of his guilt, the game isn't saying he's becoming a demon but Venom sees himself like this.
that section of the game is the most emotional moment ive encountered in a piece of fiction. ive seen a lot of films and played a lot of games and nothing comes close to the amount of emotions i felt when i had to shoot the humming soldiers. No piece of fiction ever made me feel emotions in my core except for that part of the game. even previous metal gear games like snake eater never made feel like this. Game like spec ops the line tried to force me to do the same but it failed to pull my heartstrings. i felt nothing when i did "something bad" in other games so i dont know how kojima pulled it off in this. I think it was a combination of things, 1 i was really invested in my motherbase in peacewalker and mgsv so i grew really attached to it all. 2, the peace walker theme itself. 3, the way the soldiers continued saluting despite watching everyone else in the room die. i got my brother to play through mgsv since he is also a fan of metal gear and he actually fucking cried in that segment. fuck man, kojima has mastered conveying emotions through video games. now hes got his own studio, he'll not be limited anymore
+ShyanTheLegend Especially heartbreaking for me was that some accepted their death. "Send me on another mission, boss." Or the last guy. "I can hear the others." OOF.
It's well made and awesome to look at, but it's extremely shallow gameplay-wise and it's tedious even the second time through when you play the Truth mission. I think they should've either made the whole game in GZ's style with more cutscenes after each fulfilled objective (in GZ, you get a cutscene at the beginning and at the end of the mission, as well as after reaching/fulfilling each objective) and thus kept coherence and continuity with the prologue, or just stuck to "gameplay first" for the entire experience. The Prologue is cool and all, but it's a one-time experience IMO. After that it's just tedious and even boring. There's lots to analyse in it though, so that's a plus.
you're damn right, GZ had the good old mgs formula of giving a rewarding cutscene after an intense gameplay. TPP on the other hand didn't have such thing which gave it a less replay value because the cutscenes were just showing off the power of fox engine and not telling an actual story .i'm not an mgs fan but after finishing chapter 1 i felt there was something different about this game
@@antti3779 is any game every really finished though? Lots of content gets cut from every game. I would like to see that lord of the flies chapter tho.

Three years late but one other thing is that you can see both of Venom's eyes, the real Big Boss got shot in his right eye, that'll leave a hole in his eye, wouldn't it?
Good job on the video, thanks. Think You missed the extra "rain shower" scene with Quiet though and IMO it was somewhat important as it was the only moment (except the ending) that clearly have shown Quiet's feelings toward Snake. What saddens me is that edited in part of the Kojima commentary \ interview. It must be sad seeing so many people shit on the masterpiece that MGSV is, nevermind the missing content and clearly visible cuts. We still got a fruit of pure passion. And a moving one at that.
He found a way alright, might have something to do with the numerous obvious hints that we was not playing as snake during the trailers leading up to the game and the countless in our face hints during the game, very different approach to his careful work leading up to Raiden in mgs2. Still it put the seed in everyone's mind which made it easier for everyone to accept the truth mission is the truth. Like Ocelot said " Once you put a character out their in peoples minds, it warps and twists with every baseless rumour and before you know it all people see are phantom's"
" Given the right story, the right situation anyone can be SHAPED into Snake" Ocelot quote in mgs2 referring to Raiden(the player) being manipulated into being a Snake. This time Venom(us the player) have been manipulated by Kojima, we was sold a lie and history as its told, changed to make us the Demon. The truth was a lie and a lie we bought as we had already been manipulated into doubting we was Big Boss during the game's in your face hints and during the trailers before release, the facts escaped us as we was already seeing phantoms, the game was narrated through our perception Venom(Ishmael), apart from mission 46 this is narrated by Big Boss(Ahab) and is a change in the story and lie that changes history, he made history believe that we are Ahab and he is Ishmael, he didn't want to be associated with Venom snake and the Demon within and what he went on to do, so he changed everything with a lie it was us the player(Venom Snake/medic) who was the Demon who did what he did. We are Big Boss as it is told in History.
@@laughingkars889 he'd need an entire team of handlers and editors to cut down whatever he produced to a digestible length while maintaining cohesion. there's a reason every mgs game's narrative is all the fuck over and that's because kojima is long-winded and always wants to cram too many ideas and themes into his stories. he's a good director but I think where he shines brightest is gameplay design. he'd be awful at directing a film.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has Four Chapters (Prologue, Revenge, Race and Peace) and 51 main missions (40 missions are original and 12 missions are repeated). It was from Mantis' plane crash, which made more sense because the crash came right when Snake woke up from his coma.
The Zombieman Did you also notice the game started in outer heaven, meaning the events of the phantom pain had already happened. That is far more significant than the plane crash. The events of TPP have already happened meaning we are seeing a story narrated. Stories can be changed.

Kefka, after watching this, I realize how grateful I am to watch your content FOR FREE!! I know this masterpiece took a long time for you to create, and I must admit, this must have been extra difficult to put together since I heard the game's story actually played out in a pretty convoluted way. You did a great job finding that extra content at the end that explained what happened to certain characters by the end of the game. I personally haven't played it because I don't own a PS4 yet, but after speaking to several folks who did, they all said that the game's story was its only true negative. Yet I believe you literally pieced it together to leave little room for confusion or doubt. So I hope this finds you well, and that your work eventually gets discovered so you can make a career of out this skill of yours. Take care.
Thanks for the whole MGS saga videos bro, I’ve been watching them to remember the ol days of playing as snake, and you made it possible for me to revive those moments so thanks
I find it interesting that a lot of people keep saying MGS V has no story. And yet the 'story movie' is longer than all the other games' in the series =p
Well, they mean there isn't the long cutscenes like in the other entries to the series. This games story is mostly found in conversations and cassette tapes and is not as linear as all the other games.
yeah, for sure. i think people do however overstate the difference because in the other games, you're forced to listened to codecs but no cassettes. no way for me to prove it but my general feeling is that I bet the % of codec conversations (both scripted and optional) that are listened to by a sample of players is a lot higher than of cassette tapes. I recently played the entire series again and I even found myself missing codecs... I wish more tapes automatically played in V (or more tapes were played automatically over the radio). i think this design would have helped a lot.
I definitely feel you on that. As I was playing I would always miss cassetes and parts of the exposition I really wanted to hear. And Ive never related the codec conversations to the cassette tapes before but that is a really good comparison I think.
+Evan Burgess I really wish some cassette tapes were cutscenes, like the one where Skull Face was interrogating Code Talker. That was brilliantly done and I wish I could have seen it.
yeah I agree... some of the casettes were awesome, great voice acting too... more of them should play automatically in the chopper, and even some of the 'harsh' ones (Huey interrogation, Code Talker and Skull Face, Stranglove crying) should have automatically played during a force black screen.. just make the player stare at the black and listen to how harsh some of them were.
This was Amazing. I sat through 9 hours of this masterpiece after having beaten the game, and I can tell you that without a doubt I'm satisfied. Thank you Boss for being the legend I look up to. Thank you Kefka for giving me the in-game cinematic experience I felt lacking before. And Thank you Hideo Kojima, for transmitting one of the most important messages I've received through entertainment.
What exactly is this "most important message you've received through entertainment"? War and revenge and racism are bad? Imo most of the messages/morals of this game are blatantly obvious. The point is mostly to tell the story of how Outer Heaven came to be and how Big Boss became a legendary bad guy by building this giant war economy and taking child soldiers and all the other fucked up shit we see him do.
@@AssailantLF wait he had child soldiers? Thought that was the pmcs in africa and he rescued them to stay on mother base. Heck you get a game over if you harm them. And skull face isn't the one with the child soldiers either, bc again that's the African pmcs,

You're thinking about it as an outsider. Think of the monster something like that can turn you into.

This game has the best opening sequence ever made.
Really crazy too.

[SPOILER WARNING] What I love about the ending is how Kojima found a way to make every fan of Metal Gear part of Big Boss' legend. WE are Big Boss.
+PlebNC you said it!
Sadly, most people don't see it that way. They felt betrayed and disappointed. Which, funny enough, is how Venom Snake felt the same as well lol.
TheTaze2000 That moment when you realise Kojima outmeta-ed the meta.
Kojima is actually an amazing director, incredibly sophisticated for a game developer.

Anyone notice how the beginning sequence of a plane crashing is actually the one that belonged to Psycho Mantis
Yeah at first I thought it was Snake's chopper crash. But wouldn't the noise be different if it was a chopper? I started doubting at first until I know where did the crash come from. It was from Mantis' plane crash, which made more sense because the crash came right when Snake woke up from his coma.
Actually, before the doctor shows the X-rays the radio is giving the news about the crash
It's the one that woke Volgin up!
The Zombieman Did you also notice the game started in outer heaven, meaning the events of the phantom pain had already happened. That is far more significant than the plane crash. The events of TPP have already happened meaning we are seeing a story narrated. Stories can be changed.
Five grain 518 Theirs alot more to it than that, it's not that simple. Take care.

You can play as multiple different characters throughout the series and relive scenarios from early games, it actually comes full circle and it is the most addictive game to play once you start modding, trust me on this
holy moly. 9 fucking hours long!
i HIGHLY suggest that people play the game instead of just watching this movie. this game has the most incredible gameplay experience in terms of storytelling that i have ever seen. talking about one specific mission. you need to experience that!
+6ch6ris6 yeah the game have such an amazing and addictive gameplay
It sucks, I wish I can brainwash myself to forget the entire metal gear saga and that I can replay all of them in chronological order just to get feels again
SpazticzGamer
true, but at the same time i am grateful that i have been able to experience all these games. the ending of mgs5 felt like it was designed for me. i was very satisfied with it.
If this is better than every other game you've experienced, you must have some pretty low standards. As good as this game is, there are many way better.
Man....no matter how many times I come back and play this game or go online (surprisingly still active) I still feel empty...like I’m missing something even with watching what’s little of chapter 3 online. I guess you can say I feel.....a phantom pain.
*me: falls asleep while watching this*
*friend when I wake up: I’m afraid it’s been... 9 hours*
This is enough to make 3 films about Metal Gear
"How many lens flares did you want in cutscenes?"
Kojima: Yes
Was the psychic kid with red hair Psycho Mantis as a kid?
So how did psycho mantis got his powers? And why was he in the hospital?
Yep
@@ammarisam7216 Nanomachines. Vocal cord parasites. Some dumbass Kojima retcon that has yet to be invented.
@@ammarisam7216 when Ahab woke up, his powers started to appear. A plane exploded midflight when you woke up (the radio broadcasts this event if you listen closely). Psycho Mantis' powers flowed because of you. The tapes explain a lot after you finish the mission Extraordinary.
@@rosaria8384 yeah I listened, that's a weird connection between the fake big boss and some kid.
Love the metal gear universe, kojima is an absolute genius, but one thing i want to nitpick on just for fun, why didn't they ask Quiet to write down what they wanted to know.
Great job on this! I always send people to your channel when they message me on The Solid Snake FB page saying they can't play the games and would like to experience the story.
+F1NG3RSMUSIC thanks dude! I really appreciate it : )
KefkaProduction I got a question do you think we'll ever get a good metal gear solid 6 game or no?
@@Anomalous602 we already got mgs survive, and you know how that goes, damn they did our boy Kojima dirty
@@hahabrrrrr4465 I don’t consider that one a metal gear series game. If they decide to do a metal gear game they need to bring back the creator for two more games that deserve justice to the series and closure with snake going against big boss.
@@Anomalous602 me too man
Amazing work! Thank you so much for making this!
Huge MGS fan, but couldn’t get into MGSV at all at time of release. Revisited it recently and have to say I’ve changed my mind, hugely enjoyable game. Watching this video helped to piece together parts of the game I played 5 years ago, going a long way to make sense of the entire game and the entire MSG story. Dug out my old PS2, so I can go back and replay MGS1, Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater.
So in 1984 the snake had more advance weapons than army has in 2019
Technology Son.
Spent probably half the day watching this video from Chapter 2 and the amount of editing you did with the tapes and even the credits is insanely good and it just makes a great game 100 times even better. Also, the use of “Elegia” by New Order is just perfect and just blows me away at how well it is executed. You sir, without a doubt earned yourself a like and you can guarantee that I’m gonna watch more of your videos. Awesome work, my friend.
