I think getting under that guard yourself and re-routing the horn wire but also replace it with wires that look the same that when cut will automatically trigger the alarm. Any clued up auto elec could do this for you. Also consider installing 2 horns with the second on a different circuit to the factory one so the alarm will still sound through the second horn. 💪 Holden for Life 🦁

That's the expensive option, If it's an auto a simple switch breaking the starter solenoid wire will foil them. Moving the horn is probably the best way to limit the damage to your car though I'd imagine as they'd probably move on when the stock horn wire wasn't there.

Great video Matt. It does not surprise me that VF Holden and VF HSV owners have to take extra measures to protect their pride and joy from these low life scumbags.
I am a victim of car theft that happened to me back in the mid 1970's. I never got my car back and it still plays on my mind even today.
The courts are way too lenient on these scumbags.
I owned a VZ HSV Clubsport from new back in January 2006 and I owned her for nearly 5 years and just thinking about having that car stolen made me cringe.

There are other old school anti theft methods that can be adapted to this situation-kill switch, it can’t be added to the coil anymore but can be added to other circuits like the fuel pump or low current wire to the starter relay. 4:02 Also do a horn wiring bypass and route the wires further away from the wheel arch so that the crooks can’t stop the alarm. Install a second horn on the passenger side of the car, so that even if they cut the wires and the bypass wires the outer one will still go.

I was tempted to put a hidden kill switch in the fuel pump wire run but it could be a bit risky if the switch accidentally opened, then the car would stop. Can insert a dummy fuse in place of the fuel pump fuse if it’s parked in a risky area and you can be bothered doing that. The car will start but die after about 5 seconds.

I was told by the dealer to make sure the security card with the key code and security pin are not left in the owners manual wallet in the glove box.
I think that drastically reduces the chance of replicating a key (otherwise it’s random for any device trying to replicate a key). Also don’t leave keys in plain sight and hide or leave spare keys away from the property car is kept (friends, family etc). If someone really wants something they’ll probably get it right? it’s about not presenting thieves an easy opportunity helped by doing all the simple things plus adding all the deterrents and making it harder especially for the small time thieves looking for the quick and easy car to pinch.

I would change the horn wiring a bit so the wire they cut goes to a relay and the relay turns the horn on so when the alarm is armed the relay is on and when the wire is cut the relay will drop out and the horn will go off, this would stop them damaging the door like would still happen with the simple bypass wire.

This might not be the best theft deterrent device, but I just had a thought, and that would be to add a battery kill switch that is wired to the security system so that when the immobiliser senses that the car is being hotwired, it will cut the power to the ignition, ruining their plans for a quick getaway.

Go the extra step and spend 1 weekend doing something to make it much harder for someone to thieve your car.
Ie; relocate the cable for your bonnet release to a concealed location of your choice and effect a physical alteration to the bits n pieces that make it start/run. Can be as simple as installing a switch to open/close the circuitry to the starter motor, or simply removing the relay for it. (I would leave it in place as a visual misguide but duplicate some of the wiring ((so original one still receives signal from switchgear and still clicks)) and divert it to another location out of sight thats easy to access and mount another relay there.
Or you could go to the hassle of either relocating the OBSD socket and/or making it inaccessible without first getting past a device that is in the way.
There's a lot og options oht there so think outside the box for what works for your situation. RFID or NFC technology is widely accessible to the general public now and the componentry is dirt cheap to buy.
A better but significantly more expensive option is to install hard barricading like bollards that physically prohibit the vehicle from moving beyond that point.
Another consideration that not enough people give due thought too is the inherent security weakness that the garage door poses. Both structurally and electronically. Most older types can be forced off thier tracks without too much trouble and the RF technology widely and openly available to the general public makes the RF signal between the remote and the receiver attached to the motor, about as vulnerable to intercept and hijacking as it could possibly be. And the older doors with the keyd lock in them are are waste of time in safeguarding the garage contents to all but the most juvenile and opportunistic thieves, some extra locking devices holding the door to the ground and/or additional brackets to retain the door rollers in, or near, the runners arw paramount if you still have the older, non-panel type door. And a problem with the newer panel foors is they often have decent spaces between the door components and the house structure, making it relatively easy to find out what is behind the door....
Don't just rely on the common and popular OTS measures that everyone else employs. Use them, but take the extra step and do something unique that make nicking your vehicle as difficult and/or improbable as it could practically be.

I can understand your hesitancy in making this video. I have been hugely concerned about vehicle theft and I think it is only going to get worse if only because Government regulations are reducing people's desire and ability to purchase new cars, thus making existing cars far more desirable. And with lunatics like Bowen in charge, petrol vehicles like Commodores will become even more coveted by thieves. A high end steering wheel lock should be a no-brainer regardless of any other theft prevention devices. I realise almost everything can be bypassed by professional thieves but every layer of protection adds time. A concealed GPS - even two of them in totally different locations on the vehicle - should also be strongly considered by people who own the most coveted petrol vehicles - Commodores and Falcons being prime targets.

I also like the idea of a fake obd2 port that's wired to 12v to fry their gear. The horn bypass is interesting but also wondering if some 250 stainless flexible conduit could work too.
Only just came across this video and another one so I'll be parking mine back in the garage from now on.

As someone who used to program keys, I doubt its as simple as plugging something into the OBD and away you go. Keyless start's biggest fault is people keeping their keys on a hallway table right next to the garage door.
I just installed bollards in my garage and a good old fashioned fuel pump cut off.
These days, you're better off having it stolen this way than being robbed in your sleep at gunpoint

Unfortunately there is many cctv videos on social media showing criminals ripping the wheel arch guard away , disconnecting the horn and then opening the drivers door . Reaching for the obd2 port and within 5-10 minutes driving away
Most of these vehicles are parked at shopping centres and or workplaces.

Key word “used” you’ve been out of the game a long time by the sound of it. it is very simple. As simple as plugging the immo tool into the obd and creating a new wireless key fob. This isn’t key cloning either they’re basically wiping the original key fobs and programming new ones. But you of all people should know that if you used to program keys lol

Bollards yes for at home, but the bastards can flog a keyless car in 5min.. There is no physical key to stop them. My keys are nowhere near my HSV which is locked up in a garage but they can still flog it if they can get into it especially at the shops. Or they slip an air tag under your car and follow you home.

My Maloo R8 was stolen and turned into a stripped tin can in late December 24. If Holden isn't sued in yet another class action over this design flaw that allows the horn to be disabled from the outside of the vehicle I'll be shocked. I paid $100K for that car and to have such a ridiculous design where the alarm can be disabled so easily is clearly a design flaw and a disgrace. I got a good insurance payout but it wont bring back my car which was one of the last Maloo's built...the 8th last Maloo R8 built in fact. Holden need to be held to account over this.

It's point less putting an air tag tracking , professional thieves will use a bug finder ,then use a jammer to jam frequencies ... obd device sounds promising but not fool proof there's always a back door method , eg a master code to over ride - your best to have a good alarm system that communicates two way , for example if some one opens any door it sends a message to key fob . Also has a immobiliser, artificial voice alert on car plus more , they are quite expensive used on exotic cars and so on
