I am impressed by her dedication and knowledge. I pray that more Muslims study the art of recitation as she did. We all enjoy beautiful melodic recitation, but, very few of us understand how much work and time is involved for someone to be able to reach that stage where he/she can improvise without compromising the reading or meaning of the text.

Very beautiful! May Allah guide her and us. But let's not forget that understanding the words of the Qur'an, pondering over them in the depths of your heart, and applying them to your life is much more important than sounding melodic and beautiful whilst reading it.

May Allah guide her and make her understand that Islam is the natural conclusion to Christianity and Judaism and a correction of their mistakes and an affirmation of any truth they hold.
As a white Muslim myself I know that a large number of my people have a silly understanding that Islam is for brown people 😅 and Christianity is for whites🫣🤭
Unfortunately it’s a strong rooted phenomenon embedded into the psyche of my people. I never felt this way at all because I knew that Islam is the final upgrade to God Almighty’s revelation and religion.
Her recitation is quite beautiful ☺️ and I know that she can do better because I witnessed it improve as she warmed up.
The only question now is when will she accept Islam? Soon I hope Inshallah Aameen

  • @mrbadiuzzaman

Although there are some errors here and there which I have spotted as a teacher of tajweed eg treating the ض in واضرب لهم as a Qalqalah, the fact that she has made the effort to study the Quran recitation with an emphasis on the melody is a positive to introduce the Quran especially to non Muslims. As Muslims though tajweed and the tadabbur or the study of the meaning of the verses of the Quran should be the focus, the melody comes naturally when the reciter has taken the effort to understand what is being read as it would then touch on the reader's emotion. This is how scholars versus commercially inclined reciters approach the Quran.

I spent some time in the Middle East myself and though I am Christian I did enjoy and love to hear the sounds of the East both Arabic and Persian, as well as the Quran Being recited five times a day. It thrilled me and I gained a true appreciation for the culture in all aspects: whether the written language, the dance, the music, the food, the spoken word, etc. I was not really entertained by this I was enthralled by this and still am today. I also live my own culture as well.
One thing I have noticed because I’ve lived in other countries in Europe as well, is that culture is something that is shared and shared with people who are not politically motivated to share but just sharing their unique and ancient cultures that they may be experienced all over the world.
I truly believe that culture is something that belongs to the world.

The mean subject here is the Holy Quran: this is the last message of Almighty Allah not only to the whole humans but to the whole creation.
After death one could be either in paradise or in hell for eternity.
So culture is nothing compared to our final residence (stay)!

I would have seen this lecture with awe had she also embraced Islam. I avoid learning about my religion from a non believer. Not because of doubting their honesty but because of their unawareness of the sanctity of our belief. But I must request Allah to guide her towards Islam. Some people are so passionate about worldly achievement that they forget to do something for the hereafter.

May Allāh ﷻ inspire more Muslims to take learning the Holy Qur’ān seriously especially the Tajweed and also the grammar (Nahw and Sarf). Even just learn about the particles will open the door and take us to the beautiful world of the Qur’ān, and understand why it can moves hearts and help us to really connect with Allāh ﷻ in our 5 daily prayers Inshāʾ Allāh - إن شاء الله

I've been attempting to transcribe some of the versions of Dua e-Qunoot found on You Tube into MuseScore, and though the changes in meter are rather difficult, the melodies are astonishingly beautiful. The rhythms and poetry are Unsurpassed by anything I've heard in Jazz, and in all my years I've never read or heard anyone, either critic or musician speak of the Quran and its influence on Jazz music. Probably one of the best kept secrets among black musicians, but inescapable once you have learned a few verses like Al-Kursi, or the last two of Baqarah.

Simon Jay Arabic being the language of the Quran does not mean or imply that it is easy to read or recite even for someone from the Arab world . Nonetheless There are many reciters from non Arab nations who are skilled in this respect . However, public recitation or reciting the Quran during prayer is and should be performed by a man while the ladies can recite and learn in the presence of other women .

She is more dedicated to the Quran than the majority of Muslims. (I'm not sure which is sadder...) May Allah guide her and save her from ghafla.

To Ashika Raut : the very fact that you are filled with hatred, which is a negative energy, shows your ignorance and your arrogance which in turn has made you prejudiced. Hence you now have a closed mind where your heart can never be open for any light to enter it. And unless your heart is open to light, you will never understand the beauty of Islam and the nobility of Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him.
No amount of explaining to you will help you unless you empty the dark negative energy within yourself. Try this. You will be amazed when your heart opens up to the positive energy and lights up your life with peace and tranquility that is the Quran and the Sunnah.
I wish you this because you too are a human being.

it cannot be compared with music or poetry or broken modern sciences but rather experienced as the holistic biological soul motivation, reminding and healing of the reciter or listener towards the original Fitrah - the recital of the Qur'an slowly grows the soul which allows the body to feel and flow into the tajweed automatically by the Mercy of Allah SWT - thus the niyyah/intension must not be for competition - which will lead to arrogance - the niyyah must be to encourage Nearness to Allah SWT

QURAN HAS GOT MANY ASPECTS IN RECITATION: FIRST AND FOREMOST AS A .... REMINDER FOR THE PIETY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS.
THE CONTEXT VARIOUS ENORMOUS LY, SO THE ART OF RECITATION IS VERY COMPLEX ACCORDINGLY.
CLARITY IN PRONUNCIATION AND MELODY IF NEED BE.
AS IT'S A MESSAGE TO TRANSMIT, IT'S A RESPONSIBILITY TO FULFILL TO THE BEST.
THE HOLY WORDS HAVE A MEANING AND PONDÉRATION. THE TON IS CHOSEN ACCORDINGLY.
THERE IS SOME INVOCATION THE LISTENER AND RECITER HAVE TO SAY IN BETWEEN OR DURING THE RECITATION.
SO THE POSE IS MEANING FUL, AS THE LISTENER IS ASKED TO REFLECT ON THE VERSE HE JUST HEAR OR IMAGINE THE CONSEQUENCE OF SUCH OR SUCH BEHAVIOUR OR ACT...
THE DIVERSITY OF RECITATION AND RECITERS GIVES A CHOICE AND IS VIEWED AS AN ENRICHMENT,
VOICES AND SKILLS VARY WITH THE AGE , REGION AND NATIONALITIES.
I WOULD ADVISE THE YOUNGEST RECITERS WITH POWERFUL VOICES AND OPTIMISTIC THINKERS , WHILE
    UNDERSTANDING CONTEXT.
JUST LOOK TO THE EMERGING VOICES DURING TARA WEEKS/RAMADAN PRAYERS.
THERE IS PLENTY OF "ARTISTIC" INNOVATIONS, WHICH WILL INSPIRE THE LISTENER AND PUSH HIM TO SEARCH THE DEEP MEANING OF HOLY QURAN.
    THANKS.

Im not impressed she's not reciting for Allah, she's reciting for her own self reasons, I know this because she's not a Muslim. The Science of the Quran, It's a study for her. Not a way of life as it is for billions of Muslims around the world. So what's to be impressed about? studying somebody's religion? I'm not impressed. I don't think she's listening to her inner self maybe she is Special to non-muslims. It's an amazing thing but to Muslims, she's just somebody reciting Arabic. No big deal, and I say that because there are Americans like myself and other non arabs around the world (Im a student right now in Indonesia, who speak better Arabian, then the arabs themselves. Because that's why we study the science of the Quran and implemented, not just had to study. We are real Muslims..... that makes a difference. It puts the science of Quran into your heart, not just music study. So we use the Quran on a daily basis, not just have as a scientifical reference. What's to be impressed about? She's just doing a study for herself. She should listen to her heart and become muslim. And that takes that information and changes their life. For the sake of the Almighty creator Allah SubhanAllh wata Allah.Thats a impression!

There's a whole bag of judgement and arrogance to unpack there. Are you so sure you are reciting for Allah and others are not?
Are you not wondering at the love for Qur'an that has entered her heart? Will you deny that she may be destined to embrace Islam? You seem to be generally very ready to praise yourself and condemn others.

@jafarparkes She directly says in her opening statement. That she does this for a study dealing with music . This is not my own conclusion. This is what she told us and if she was really touched by the Quran, as I said in my statement, she would listen to Her heart. I'm not Being self righteous I know what a person Grappling with the decision of being a Muslim or not. I was once not a Muslim. I was a . A disjockey who played music. I gave that up for the sake of a lot. Because I love a lot. She clearly states an opening statement. She is not a Muslim. She does not have a feeling for Islam. So what is she doing the study for what's it all about? I know what a real person does Grappling with Islam. I was once a announcer playing lots of music. So I know what that's all about. She's not a Muslim. She's not trying to be a Muslim, but I'm telling her. If she is interested in Quran there is something attaches her heart to Islam. Follow your heart and become a Muslim. That's the best advice I can give her. So you can't play these games with me like I'm judging her and I have no right. I have a right. I have a right to tell her to listen to her heart and turn to Islam. What are you doing for her? And Allah knows best.

@omarfarooq3330 Assalaamu Alaykum.Thank you for taking time and trouble to respond. Dear brother, of course you have the right, indeed the duty to encourage the lady to take that step. For whatever reason, her heart has not yet accepted. I am only saying we do not have the right to judge.
On the one hand we say it is enough for a person to say kalimat shahada to declare the unity of Allah and yet they display little or no evidence of Islam, and have no grasp of tawhid, and we say this person is closer to Allah than persons such as this lady.
But in both cases we do not know their intentions, we certainly do not know the condition of their heart, nor their destiny.
I do not understand why so many people are rushing to condemn this lady's lack of sincerity, as if she is disrespecting Islam by her attraction and study of Qur'an from the perspective of being a non Muslim
Why can we not simply accept that a person could hear Qur'an and be intensely moved by the sound and yet not immediately become Muslim. I don't hear her claiming anything opposing the message of the suras, even if she has not yet outwardly attained the light of Islam. On the contrary she has learned and embraced a lot. I would disagree with you concerning whether she has no feeling for Islam. There is no compulsion, I don't need to remind you. The only compulsion that matters is the compulsion from within. InshaAllah the day comes when she awakens spiritually to the message as well as the sound, and understands the truth of why she is so attracted.
I am surprised to hear that you were once similarly attracted and involved with music, but are not willing to recognise that her state may also alter inshaAllah, in whatever instant Allah may have decreed.
We for ourselves can only be thankful, and pray for a good end to our fleeting time in dunya.

@jafarparkes As salaamu alaykum dear brother, My main issue is she states, In her own words I recited it (Quran) in front of , Scholars, Teachers, Imma's, Ustads And the likes. Do you think that these authorities would allow her to recite? As she said," I recited in front of them" without wearing proper hejab, with being nudges, The scholars probably thought she was studying to be a Muslim! I can't see someone like that in that station in life, having a Non believer
reciting in front of them why? As she states out of her own mouth ." They apologize to me when I first got there because a woman was talking to me without proper hejab, showing her hair. They said.... "we're sorry,She comes from a musician's family". Implying that ,that women she was talking to wasn't serious, so therefore they thought She was a Practicing muslim, or somebody serious about the who was serious about the Quran. It just doesn't make sense, It seems like she was playing games with people. I'm not sure I know her true Intentions, but Almighty Allah Knows that's for sure! I truly hope she becomes Muslim. Listens to her heart as I said and change her life for good. As salaamu alaykum

The Guidance of Allah SWT is His SWT Choice - Deen is not a tradition it is the Expression of Indebtedness(DAANA) to Allah SWT - so truth is not comparable to human definitions , it is a innate experience - the Wudu to recite Qur'an is Obligatory to gain true meaning and benefit. It is a command of Allah SWT in the Qur'an - refusal to do it is arrogance - and trying to redefine the use of Qur'an in different context to by-pass a command of Allah SWT is disrespect - which hampers Guidance - If The Companion Umr RA, could be told that he need to clean himself before he touched only a piece of the Qur'an , by his sister, while he was a disbeliever - then that shows the Honour of the Word of Allah SWT in Arabic and the level of Respect Required, of which no-one created by Allah SWT has a choice to violate. So Yes she might have been given the opportunity to study Qur'anic Recitation from a western, non-believers' so-call objective academic approach - which actually forces structural conforminty to non-commitment to truth, but rather encourage argument and opinion rather than truth, but she has not been given the right to violate Allah SWT Command in The Qur'an that only the Purified may touch The Qur'an 56:79 - This is sure and true belief in Allah SWT as The Only God Almighty , and Respect towards HimSWT and His SWT Word..Alghamdu lillaah - Remember the aim of the disbeliver is to confuse and place doubt in the mind of the Muslim and he/she will go to any lengths to do it even study Qur'an - Remember the Arabs who disbelived in the time of the Prophet SAW were fluent in Clasical Arabic, Poetry and prose - and they did not believe - and the Prophet SAW was in their presence - Allah SWT is The Guide and no--one has the right to bend the Commands of Allah SWT to suit people who violate a Qur'anic Divine Command - it is just pure arrogance, however it is packaged - and remember Academic Formating for Ph.D's are styled to make no commitment to truth but to make truth an opinion, relative and anything plausable by human flimsy "referencing", with no strength of commitment, to create argument, confusion and doubt. That is why the Qur'an Starts with the Ayah This is a book in which there is no Doubt ---basic translaton - which immediately Gives confidence to the Muslim against all onslaughts against Truth -- And Allah SWT Knows Best - May Allah SWT Accept Our efforts to stand firm on The Trusth and Guidance from Allah SWT and His Rasuul SAW in shaa Allah Aameen - humility is the cornerstone of belief - because it allows one to see the Majesty of Allah SWT. Alghamdu lillaahi Robil 'Aalameen.

When you recite a book of laws (or any book) do you read it in a melodic way? No.That is the same with the Quran. The melodic reciting is an innovation. The most important is the message and meaning of the Quran. If one does not speak or write Arabic read the translation.
