Lesley Hazleton sat down one day to read the Koran. And what she found -- as a non-Muslim, a self-identified "tourist" in the Islamic holy book -- wasn't what she expected. With serious scholarship and warm humor, Hazleton shares the grace, flexibility and mystery she found, in this myth-debunking talk. (Filmed atTEDxRainier.)

Unfortunately, even with the English translation, it cannot keep up with the Arabic language and does not describe exactly what the Qur'an describes, because the Arabic language describes better than any other language. When the Qur'an hears, it understands what the Quran means more than anyone, but today they replace the Arabic language with the colloquial language, so it has become few Who understands the Qur’an precisely because they believe that it is the original language, seems too serious and its words carry many meanings, which are difficult to use

Sin is the problem. Many religions teach that God will forgive our sins if He shows mercy, but a God who grants forgiveness without judgment must ignore the punishment that sin deserves... who will deal with my sin in order to grant me true forgiveness? Thanks to Jesus Christ I am saved! He recieved the punishment for my sins so that sin receives its judgement and Gods forgiveness remains righteous when He grants mercy. No other God has dealt with the problem of sin in order to forgive the sinner because they simply overlook it ( a true judge could never ignore the crime, how much more a Holy God?). I urge you to obey Sura 3:3 and read the Gospel as it instructs you to, then after reading the Gospel, judge weather or not the Gospel will permit you to return to the Quran.

GodArmy7711 1- all muslims believe in the gospel and the torah, they believe in the prophets they cam with.
2- you do realise that you are just making GOD incompetent for judging his own creation in favor of another shape of himself (as you belive). So you are saying that his human form died for your sins and his godly form forgave you for it? Isn't that the same thing as god forgiving it[sins] anyway??? (because essentialy they are both the same thing) or at least i think you believe.

I truly appreciate this woman's time and effort in properly understanding the holy book of another religion and the respect that she gave it. I am a Muslim, and I'm happy to be one. I believe in one God, but that does not mean I shall enforce all atheists to believe the same. I believe that Jesus was just a messenger of God, nothing more, but I wont force any Christians into believing the same. I am believer of what I believe, and they, and you, are believers of what they and you believe. By calling each other names and saying how wrong and stupid someone else's belief wont help humans advance any further. It degrades humans, stripping off all humanity that every person should have -- regardless of being an Atheist, a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, or a believer of any or no faith. Respect. That is the key word. Respect all on Earth, and respect their choice in life. It is THEIR choice; not yours, not mine, not anyone else's.

I've read to many satanic verses in the Qur'an, my mind has been closed off to it. There is no educating that Islam can provide. To accept Islam is to accept those verses. The bible of the Christians never tells it's readers to hurt others. Maybe you should educate yourself on the Christian book, or the Hindu book, the Hermetic books.

Brother . True Almighty God has made sun a source of blessings at the same time he has also warned us in Surah Fussilat..And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.
Almighty God has always send Prophets and Messengers through out the ages ..so that's why we find many similarities..but the message was lost due to the interfering of man and changing of scriptures..but the basic msg has been retained sometimes..that's why we see in Vedas the msg to worship a formless God..also the story of Manu and Adam you find similarities..also some parts of Moses and Krishna story has fascinated me... except in case of Moses the msg is to worship the Almighty God alone..

@@lishr4536 Jizya is taken from non muslims only when the state bounds itself for the safety and protection of non muslims. It's like an insurance. If someone harms you or you face theft or any sort of illegal activity happening with you the state is responsible for paying reparations to you.
It is also important to note that muslims do not enjoy these benefits. State is responsible for providing law and order but muslims aren't insured the way Jizya payers are.
Secondly Jizya is only applicable on wealthy affordable non muslims. A non muslim who isn't well off enough to pay the state is not bound to pay Jizya instead State itself pays its Jizya.
And last but not the least its not just non muslims who have to pay to the state its us muslims as well who have to pay Zakat. A mandatory charity by the affordable muslim failing to pay results in serious repercussions for us.
However all these are the qualities and traits of true muslim state and historically we never truly had a muslim state after 30 years of Prophet. The caliphate was destroyed and Monarchy was introduced and we muslims do not consider those states true Islamic in soul neither do we claim any responsibility for the atrocities they brought upon its subjects.

Colt Magnus are you aware of the context of this chapter? This chapter was learned by the prophet after the deal between the prophet and the people of Mecca was established, which restricted when the Muslims could go to Mecca and then broke the treaty by attacking a clan that was affiliated with the prophet, this lead to the invasion of Mecca. The non-believers in this chapter are a very specific group known from the context of the story, this is also the only chapter in the Quran that doesn’t start with “بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم” which is to distinguish it from other chapters that are meant to instill peace and serenity in the heart of the reader, since this chapter was discussing and telling the Muslims how they should act in a war.

We Muslims barely think or try to read Quran and try to understand... Non Muslims are attracting towards Quran and they are very ambiguous to learn Holy book so that they come to know the reality... We just believe what we heard about...
