Hi Jarrod! What do you think about the RTX 2060 version? I watched few videos about it but they say the Ryzen 7 3750h is too weak for that high GPU.. is it true?

@@JarrodsTech Hi Jared, I found a review that mentioned that this laptop has FreeSync. Can you confirm this? If it does, this is basically the first time an AMD CPU and an
Nvidia GPU you has done this lol

He's Australian. If he was American it would've been impressive 😂
@@myd3b124 As a user of this Laptop I can confirm that there is Freesync available and activ at stock. The range is 48-120Hz. If you limit the FPS to 118 in the nVidia Control Panel you can have Freesync all the time in all Games, witch is really nice but also there seems to be a bug with this, as Freesync is working trough the iGPU of the RYZEN CPU and sometimes it bugs out. AFAIK it has to do with the MyASUS Software, if you terminate it it will be fine. Bit late but hope this helps someone.
Oh flip, I think they're onto me
The drain to 95% but no lower while plugged sounds like overcharge protection, and very common amongst modern laptop. Not something to be worried about.
Dr.Sandvich how do I play for long periods of time, or charging at low percentage
Yeah, I probably worded it poorly, I was basically trying to say I was concerned about it as most laptops I've seen just keep draining and draining indefinitely but that was not the case here.
Thanks u so much , i was so frustating when i hear it LOL
@@alphagamma1289 It won't go below 95%, otherwise it will charge while plugged in. It's actually part of the mil spec to protect from overcharging. So if you're at low power, and want to continue gaming just plug in and it will go up to 95% under heavy load. It actually will help this battery last a while. Gaming laptops continually at 100% battery while pumping through 180w actually wears the battery out because it causes the battery to overcharge, so after a year or so, you end up with a battery that will only hold ~93% capacity.
Tybera oh ok thanks! Well explained

I've had this laptop for 1,5 years, and people always joke about how loud it is. Even when I'm just watching youtube, it sometimes starts being really loud, and keeps it up for a few minutes before going back to normal. It can also heat up quite easily while gaming, and the battery isn't very good on its own, but these are all the problems I've had with it so far, its a pretty damn good laptop overall for the price, gaming or otherwise.

Hey Jarrod! Do you know if it's possible to detach the battery from this laptop to avoid it's spoiling using the power from socket?
@Alex The Idiot Don't know, depends if they send it over, haven't heard anything.
@@ivanbsm6683 Yes, you can remove it from the board, but I don't see the point, having the battery sitting there in case of power outage is more beneficial for me, as long as you're not constantly smashing it with discharge/recharge cycles it should last fine.
@@JarrodsTech I just mean if I usually use laptop as stationary one eating the power from a socket (because it becomes being transported not very often as it could), I'd prefer to remove the battery to keep it safe from constant 99 -> 100% recharging, which as I know, spoils it's capacity and reliability. So as it's possible to detach I'm happy to hear that (have just acquired that baby). Thanks for feedback!

This processor is good with graphics cards weaker than 1660Ti. The best configuration is razen 7 3750h and gtx 1650 .
On the other hand, this processor will do less energy and heat less.
But in games that need a CPU like PUBG you will have a bottleneck, it will manifest itself in the fact that lowering the settings will not significantly increase your fps.

This is the optimal version of the ASUS TUF FX505 1650 with this processor. Razen 7 3750H will not be bottleneck GTX 1650. Maybe if there are any new drivers for Razen, it will be better to use the gtx 1660ti potential, but at the moment there are better 6 core processors with this card.

I was thinking about buying an ultrabook until I saw this laptop on internet and after your review I'm 100% positive I will buy this one in the following week. It's more future proof and 5 hours of battery life is more than enough to get me through all I need and some more, and the performance gains over an ultrabook is great. I'm not a hardcore gamer, I play Cs Go and wow vanilla from time to time ( rare ) all I need is a fast and snappy machine and this feels like it. Thanks for the great review. Ps: How about the trackpad ? do all the gestures work ? can you click on all trackpad ?
It's ok, here's what I said in the video about it which is honestly all I can really remember about it that's worth saying: the touchpad has precision drivers and was smooth to the touch. It worked alright, however it felt a bit loose, if you lightly press it it sort of clicks down
The details are amazing. Good work.

Great video! I just got into gaming and want to buy a good laptop for a similair prices like this one. Which model is your best pick? Because I lost it after all afternoon comparing laptops... :p
Dunno if this helps but i got the 17 inch version of this laptop. Same specs. Its a great laptop. My only complaints are that the track pad is a bit wonky, but i use a mouse. The speakers aren’t that loud, but i use headphones.
I was just watching a video on how the ryzen 7 isn’t that much more powerful than the ryzen 5 (something like 3-5%) so if i were to save a few bucks I probably would have gotten a ryzen 5.

I've noticed that the CPU can be a bit of a bottleneck due to overheating issues. Despite trying Turbo Mode, using liquid metal, and employing both Iets Vaccoon and Iets GT626 cooling bases, the overheating persists. On the bright side, the GPU stays cool and performs well. This Ryzen 7 3750H really does require some special attention and care. If you're thinking about buying this, please keep the CPU's tendency to overheat in mind. It's my favorite laptop, but I felt it was important to share my experience and caution you all.
I have the same problem since I bought the laptop back in 2019. Even though I changed the thermal pads and thermal paste the cpu always was really hot while I was gaming. Now I’m thinking to cut the plastic base of the laptop to give more space for the cooling system!!
Did you guys find a fix for this?
@@rhyz173 Sorry if this sounds expensive, but the solution involves using the Flydigi BS1 cooling base, along with three IETS vacuum fans-one for each exhaust port. Additionally, applying liquid metal thermal compound (EXTREME version) on CPU ONLY and replacing the thermal pads with liquid thermal putty with 15 W/m·K thermal conductivity dramatically improves cooling. Now, the temperatures of all components remain below 65-70°C.(At maximun during gaming heavy load)
There’s another method I haven’t tested yet, but someone managed to undervolt this CPU using unofficial software. It works exceptionally well, and the temperatures drop to around 60°C. It looks promising, and I’ll post the video here later.
@murilogames8805 thanks for your detailed answer! I dont have the expertise nor money to do these things 😂. But at least I know there is a fix. Would undervaulting limit performance?
I tried The First Descendant and this laptop and only got lile 20fps on low settings. And my average systems latency was like 150+ms. Crazy stuff, Apex legends gives me under 20ms average system latency. Also I notice my laptop stuttering now and gain, my game slows down to like 1 fps for like 2 seconds. Infact this happens whether I am gaming or not, in any application, even playing music. Also normaly things such as open file Explorer are much slower than what I'd expect. I compared to a basic entry level laptop and that does normal tasks so quick. Last thing is my RGB does not work anymore. Sometimes when the lights are off in the room you can see the Green RGB very dim but it does not cycle. And this one time it came on very bright but only green. When I switch to red or blue it does not work.
Sorry for the long stories just trying fixing these things for so long but finally found someone who knows what's going on. 😂 if you get some time please advise.

Sebi Nedelea yes, with their software, armoury crate
Freesync and other tweaks:
Hey @Jarrod'sTech,
thank you for doing reviews like this, you are by far one of the most dedicated reviewers that I know, so keep it up.
I bought this laptop and I think there are some things you missed which could help soon-to-be users or even people who already bought this laptop so here I go:
You said that this unit comes without G-Sync and you are right. Allthough: Every reviewer missed the fact, that the 120Hz display (and likely the 60Hz model also) supports Freesync from 48-120Hz, and because the display signal is send through the Vega10 GPU unit this will work with the nVidia GPU as well. nVidia has a max framerate in their settings menu for some time now, so you can limit the FPS to 119 and enjoy tear-free-gaming without the lag v-sync will give you. This was the biggest suprise after I bought it, so I thought it was well worth mentioning.
An also not minor important thing is to update the BIOS of the laptop after you get it, but do not do it through the website, do it through device manager by clicking Firmware, doubleclick System Firmware, select driver tab, click update driver, then restart. It will do everything automatially. This method is described on the ASUS how-to for BIOS updates on laptops and it will get you a version of the BIOS that is over two months newer than the newest one on their supportpage. Don't know if this improves performance, but it very well might do, as RYZEN on laptops is still in it's infancy.
After stumbeling around for a while I also found out that the driver situation for the chipset is most confusing but here is a configuration that might improve performance and engergy efficency a bit: First DDU ALL GPU drivers from you system in safe-mode (hold shift while klicking restart, then enable advanced system boot menu) and check the box in settings menu of DDU that disables reloading the GPU drivers from Windows update service. Then install the Chipset-APU-Drivers from AMD official website for your specific processor (3750H or 3550H). This will include a RYZEN balanced Power-Plan that needs to be activated in energy-settings-menu. After that go to ASUS support site and download the chipset driver, install it by right-clicking the installer and choose 'Execute as Administrator'. Then you need to load the AMD Radeon Settings Lite APP from windows store, link is found on ASUS supportpage as well. Then install the newest nVidia driver there is on the ASUS supportpage. After that download the newest driver for you specific GPU model from nVidia supportpage and install it, updating the existing driver package. I don't know why, but this was the only procedure that gave me a stable system after lots of dinking around.
Also here's one known problem with the optimus function I noticed: Some applications do engage with the nVidia dedicated graphics even though they are perfectly fine running on the integrated GPU. To prevent this from happening open nvidia control panel, click 'Desktop' in the task bar and enable the option 'show GPU-activity in notification area'.
You can define what application is using which GPU in 3D-Settings by clicking 'program propertys' and adding the specific program, then selecting the internal GPU as default. I had to do this specificly for the radeon settings lite app, for nVidia did not add a rule for handling this correctly.
This may very well explain your issues you had with vulcan titles, as the vulcan runtime may very well be assigned to the inegrated graphics by default and needs to be redefined as running on the dedicated GPU by default.
Last but not least: Make sure to download and install the overdrive settings from the ASUS supportpage, for this lets you enjoy better visuals with reduced lag and smearing. I know, this panel is not the best but it will perform decend after doing so.
I'm quite happy for choosing this laptop, for I got this thing as killer of a deal you can find, but for potential buyers, only consider it if you are a very dedicated RYZEN supporter, for the querks and problems that arise are much the same on mobile as they were on desktop two years ago. Be realistic, all of you who made it trough to this point: This will not make the 3750H faster than a 9300H, so only consider it if its way cheaper and you can bear the 10% in performance loss. Most of the time you will be GPU-limited anyway so be mindful of that.
Hope this helps some people. Cheers!
Thanks! Yeah I heard about what to do for FreeSync after making the video, it's a bit crap that it's not easier to do out of the box, like just an option in their software. How many people buying this are going to install the Radeon software and do it (unless the process has changed)? That's strange about the BIOS, I always just grab what ever is newest on the product page and install that before starting.
@@JarrodsTech Hey Jarrod, thank you for your reply. To clearify: Freesync IS enabled out of the box, at least if you install the Chipset/APU-Driver that ASUS provides. The shenanigans with the original AMD Driver is only required to get the RYZEN Balanced PowerPlan. Even if you can't see the option, there will be no tearing, as far as I could test it. The AMD Control Panel Lite App only gives you the VSR-Options and a toggle for Freesync, if you prefer it turned off. I off course would love to see a revisit of this laptop in a few months, to see how it will be holding up in 2020, maybe when the new 4000 series comes out.
Edit: The BIOS Version I was talking about is now available to download regularly.
I hope you can review also msi ps63 modern with the 1660 gtx
It's on the todo list, they just sent the P65 creator, I've also asked for that one and the 42.
Great video Jarrod but the real question is, how TUF are you?
This TUF 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
@@JarrodsTech Bro don't even with me, I stubbed my toe the other day and I only cried for 45 minutes, that's how TUF I am 💪💪💪
oh jeez
Jarrod'sTech I didn’t know you had 9 arms!
Jarrod, does storage affect the laptops performance ??
Nope, just load times.
This is how a Laptop review should be. Loved it.
At 1:53 the key board is changing colour. Is this actually possible or just editing?
They keyboard is rgb, so yes, it does that
It has an RGB keyboard, that's not editing (way too much work haha)
Okay, awesome thanks for the quick response, I'm not a laptop specialist so I domt know most of the terms. This is making me want it even more
Cheers you two, appreciate the quick response
Please review the 1650 version
It depends if ASUS has that configuration in Australia to lend out.
@Setzer K I thought thats the price in US, $899?
@Setzer K Considering laptop pricing in India, fx505dt is priced reasonably well. Tell me any 1650 or 1060 laptop which is priced below 70k? None.
@Setzer K And the 1650 (laptop) isn't terrible. It is probably going to be the new budget king surpassing 1050ti very soon. Yes, 1060 is better but here in India it is overpriced. 1060 is totally not worth the money if you consider buying it from India and if you're thinking of ordering any laptop from overseas, goodluck with that because the final price is gonna cost you around 200$ more than the original price (considering taxes, shipping and stuff)
@Setzer K why are you even bringing the 1060 in with the 1050/1050ti? We are talking about 1650 here and if you don't know, the 1650 has a 30% leap in performance over 1050 and 24% over 1050ti. That is a huge improvement considering the 1050ti is going to be obsolete soon. I never said 1650 is a high-range gaming gpu. This was launched by nvidia just to up the benchmark of budget gaming.
Compare this to the Acer Helios Predator 300 2019 please!!!
Omar Ehab it gets butt fucked by the Helios 300
It's on the to-do list, but yes worth paying a bit more for Helios 300 IMO.
it's on SALE now. Buy the helios 300. It butt fucks the 505DU. I got the 505DU cause helios 300 is not available here.
Subbed likked and bought thanks dude:)
Welcome to the channel!
So far impressed with it. I didn't need anything more then this as I have my desktop as my main gaming machine. This was just bought as my college/ work computer that can play my strategy games and e-sports games while on business trips.
Good to hear!
@@JarrodsTech Noticed your system is in single channel. Wonder if it's when and what region the laptop is shipped to determines this because I preordered mine and it came with both ram slots occupied.
Ty for helping me decide! I will buy this laptop, cant wait to have it now xD
No problem, happy to help!

Can you do the acer predator helios 300(2019) version GTX 1660ti and hp omen 15 GTX 1660ti reviews?
Helios 300 is being sent out tomorrow, no ETA on HP as they ignore my requests.
@@JarrodsTech The thing with HP OMEN 15 there is RTX 2060 m9odel on amazon for 1279 usd.And the ratings also really high. Not sure to buy because low reviews on youtube
Hey Jarrod great stuff again but I have something more ; Check out Asus Tuf FX505dv which house a RTX2060!!!!
I'm trying to get it
@@JarrodsTech I am literally going out to buy this in a week to 2 weeks and I'd love to see the video!
Jarrod'sTech Yes i want to buy it but i need a review about the it im so excited
Isn’t 1660ti slightly better than rtx 2060?
Pretty sure it performs slightly better and it’s the same architecture. Rtx has ray tracing but realistically the performance would be awful on anything less than the RTX 2070
@@christopherbradley7149 mmm no, jarrod did a comparison between the 1660ti and 2060. The 2060 definitely runs faster, but it really depends on what software/game youre running + cpu to see the difference
Should i get this? Or acer predator helios 300 2019? Im from the Philippines and the weather here is tropic. So im scared about helios getting very hot
Helios 300 will perform much better despite running hotter, I wouldn't worry about it too much it'll just throttle back as needed.
Wow every comparison i have had in my mind brought me to your videos:P
Hope they're useful!
would this be good for live streaming?
It’s been TUF for this laptop since the acer helios 300 has been is its main competition
lol
In our country, a TUF with a Ryzen 7-3750h and a 2060 costs $1500 while the Helios 300 (2019) with a 1660ti is at $1800. I would gladly pick the one with the 2060. I don't think that it'll bottleneck that much with a R7-3750h
@@dabidesu With little overclock ryzen will keep it up
Please compare with the 2019 helios 300
I will, it's on the to-do list.
@@JarrodsTech dont mean to stress, when can we expect this comparison video? just because i dont know whether its worth waiting before i buy. love your channel btw
Is there a reason why you aren't using 60fps in 2019?
If you're talking about 60 FPS video, I find it pointless for doubling my video export time.
@@JarrodsTech Ah, yes. Doing bare minimum. It really grinds my gears, when people with capable hardware does not push technical boundaries, but stagnate instead. Why not to use 720p@24fps then? There are real, big youtubers who do that. It would render even faster.
Does doubling render time is so bad? When I render 4K@60fps and 8K@60fps, I just leave my computer to do that and do something else in meanwhile.
I bought this laptop 3 months ago. Maybe I was unlucky, I don't know but my laptop had terrible thermal throttling in turbo mod while under heavy load (game, stress test etc...). CPU clock speeds kept dropping to 400Mhz because of high temperature of the CPU (sometimes 100 Celsius degrees!). I could avoid this by setting the maximum processor state to %99 (this disables the turbo mod) to keep the temperatures low but it decreases the laptop performance. Some people doesn't have this problem. So make sure to do a 10-15 minute stress test and check your CPU clock speeds and thermals.
Hello, I have two questions:
1. At 6:35 you say after the battery charge dropped to 95% while plugged in, you didn't see further change. Does that mean that when you were testing, the battery charge didn't drop further while still playing?
2. Can the keyboard lighting be turned off?
P.S.: Thank you for your work with all those reviews and benchmark videos, it helps out a huge lot! :)
1. Yes, it stopped and did not go lower. This is pretty standard behaviour with most laptops I test, to the point where I stopped mentioning it in reviews because it confused people.
2. Yes.
No problem, happy to help!
@@JarrodsTech thanks! :)
Please do review that Acer predator helios 300 2019
I think they're sending it later this week.
@@JarrodsTech ooo
specs wise it's great.
but elasticity-wise, it's like watching a horror movie.

on another 8GB stick ram compatible with the 3550H + 1650? For upgrade.
If you only have one stick, then yes that will help. I have compared the difference between single channel (1x stick) and dual channel (2x sticks) with this exact laptop here: th-cam.com/video/E_aPaj5QkmM/w-d-xo.html
@@JarrodsTech Yes thanks, I've seen that video. That's why my friend want to add another 8GB Stick but we need help finding a compatible one as i see there is many Samsung Sticks on Amazon that might be compatible but no clue which one of them will.
@@DimMVK just look for one that has the same timings and speed you can check that with software like hardware info

I'm getting this next week what a great review
How is your experience with the laptop?
How is it doing with current AAA games?
And how's the battery with you?
The HP Omen 15 has i7 9750H and gtx 1660ti with 144hz and the price is 1100$ much better
If it's $1100, then yes in terms of specs that makes more sense. Unfortunately they don't respond to me, so I've never been able to test out their stuff. That said, at microcenter this is currently $999.
@@JarrodsTech Currently 799!!!!!!!!
Aland Faraidun Does it come with the 1660Ti or the 1660Ti maxQ though? Make sure to double check since some laptops are mislabelled.
i hv this laptop but when gaming cpu+gpu not at full usage (about 70%to 80%) and cpu temp 90c
is this normal?
CPU is in the warmer side, but if you have a warmer room temp than what I tested with then that will be expected.

I LUV the video, answers so many questions testing multiple games(that I play) and the prices. I'm glad I clicked on this video

I am getting this laptop second hand with RTX 2060
This is an very in depth review. I’m currently going between a laptop, and building a pc. I really like the mobility factor of the laptop, but I’m worried about overheating and other issues that have been frequent with gaming laptops. The only games I’m even considering running are guild wars 2 and call of duty warzone lol. Anyways, thank you for the review!
I just bought the one with a core i7 1650 I’m so excited
being 4 years and my laptop is still giving decent performance hehe
How is the battery life?
Hi Jarrod, would you reccomend this over the zephyrus g? The fx505 is much cheaper, with almost similar specs... So why the higher price tag on the zephyrus?
Yes, the GPU here isn't max-q but same CPU. Not sure on the price difference, I guess thinner stuff costs more.
Great video mate. Nice to see an Aussie reviewer as I cannot find much on the Australian models online. I just bought theFX505DV with the RTX2060 from mwave because of this review. Cheers!
Thanks! Hope it goes well 👍
How is it so far? Pretty good? Im having mine delivered tomorrow...
Isaiah Ronquillo Really well. For the price you get mad gaming performance and pretty decent build quality. I didn't have the issue with the touch pad having the second click that Jarrod described so maybe they fixed it early in the production. Also the Armoury Crate software plays up sometimes and won't change fan profiles with Fn+F6 but you can just change power profile under battery settings. Power Saver = Silent, Balanced = Performance and Max Performance = Turbo.
Oh and one last tip; download ASUS Battery Health Monitor. It lets you lock a battery charging profile based on how you use the laptop; always plugged in, rarely plugged in, etc. I use the always plugged in so it keeps the battery between 58-60% which is good for long battery life.
You won't be sorry with your choice. A great laptop and awesome bang for your buck. Enjoy mate. 👍
Thank you dude.. All your videos are awesome and detailed from head to toe..
---By the way I after watching so many videos..
Would you recommend me to buy ACER NITRO 5 Ryzen 5 3550H/RX560X? The RAM of this laptop is only 4GB RAM but i am planning to upgrade to 16GB RAM..
Would you recommend me this laptop or not?
Purpose to buy:
1. Video editing (Adobe premiere pro) ---Is it smooth??
2. Gaming
3. For my work..
----Thanks dude if you reply me in detailed.. 💪
Cheers! I'd look for an Intel option personally, the boost from quicksync when exporting is well worth it. I've actually compared the 3750H in this laptop to a last gen 8300H in this video, and the i5 is quite a bit better: th-cam.com/video/qdD28DfxdRE/w-d-xo.html
I just bought this laptop three days ago and i can say that is pretty impressive, my heaviest game is ACOrigins and it's running it very smoothly with almost everything in Ultra, despite that has good ventilation i have it with a Desktop cooler and a desktop fan mainly because i'm very paranoid with temperature and overheating, and given that i play some heavy games and two or three Adobe Programs running at the same time, it's never to much extra ventilation.
Good to hear it's going well!
Hi Jarrod. I am looking to get this laptop for my son, the only thing that puts me off is the low storage on SSD's. Is there an option you can add an additional 2.5 SSD in there?
Yes, you can see the spare 2.5" bay at 5:29
I have the DD and am very happy with it - still. Above all the mil grade chassis is not to be sneezed at - my laptop has survived killer blows several times.
Downside: The keyboard is the weakest link, and replacement keys are not that easy to find given they seem to change between sub-models.
However, my next rig will not be a TUF if they move back to Intel: I have zero interest in them.
