Thanks Vivek ! Yes, I have fully tested 3 games so far as all quality settings, in balanced, and turbo modes as well as using a custom fan profile. I will finish it up tomorrow and will try and so a live game stream later on Friday
I have been waiting for this laptop ..you are the first one it's awesome .. please do a full review .. about battery ,sound , games , video editing , thermal heat management and performance .. it will be really helpful because i think this laptop is really good for what the Acer is provided .. and hoping that I will get that laptop for my work..

A great overview as always! You are my favorite reviewer, always thorough and insightful. I just picked up the Helios 300 2019 17" and I am very happy with the build quality, screen and performance. Mine has almost no backlight bleed at all, what is there is hardly noticed and I'm a real stickler.Great laptop.
I got 5 hours 5 mins in my TH-cam streaming test at 25% brightness, power saver. I don't do a gaming one because let;s face it, they all last around an hour to 75 mins...
@PICKLE SHROOM well im not a hardcore gamer. Most of my gaming is SMITE. I love playing older games. I know that the 1060 gtx is probably an overkill as I really dont play AAA games or think about them. I just needed a laptop for music composing and producing. So a good cpu and lots of RAM. i wish helios had more storage as i really need it but i can add more. Does it get hot even when not playing graphics intensive games ?
Yeah this is my point, as long as it's not a review loaner don't u lose money without selling it, tbh i would love to buy a lap from u that's tested and fully loaded of games if i were living in ur country
This seems like such an amazing laptop with great value but I just cannot stand the look on the lid, it just stands out too much. I wish these companies would quit with the "super cool/edgy gAmEr" aesthetic and just put efforts into specs.
When will a laptop with i7-9th gen, RTX 2060 6GB with Ray tracing enabled graphics card, CPU undervolted, Good thermal cooling, therderbolt 3 enabled laptop be launched for around $1500 ? When will this kind of config for dat price tagged laptop be launched from any of those companies ?
@@violetpandemonium The y540 1660ti only comes with the 60hz screen i believe, making this an easy choice. The hard choice is when the 2060 version with the 144hz panel goes on sale for 1200 like it did last week with the 17" version.
Awesome review! Your probably one of the first to review the acer predator 300 2019. Really great upgrade for 100$ from the asus tuf especially for the i7-9750h processor I do hope this would come on sale more frequently like the lenovo or asus rog laptops, that would be a steal. Your vids really helped, thanks!!

@@OWNORDISOWN the only problem i have now is that the predator is not readily available yet, at least from where im from yet the asus tuf and nitro 5 2019 is already in the market. Can you do a review on the nitro 5? It might also be good option considering its price point
I agree that the Predator Helios delivers a really good spec with its price point and i hope i can get it by this year... but ASUS ROG is a brand with legacy that some people might prefer over other laptops considering that it is in the Zephyrus lineup which is known for their heat management
This is how you do a brief review, splendid job. And the comparison is also on point. I'm interested in how does it fare against the newer version of Dell G5 (with RTX 2060) and the late MSi models (with 1660 Ti). Similar price segment.

I had issues on this one. My clip on mic failed to record to the unboxing so I had to use the audio recorded by my cell phone that was taking the overhead shot. In editing I bumped it up by 3 db and it sounded ok when I played it back. It's not my usual set for sure, I must have just forgotten to press the record button on my zoom handy H1 recorder...
I've been waiting for a high quality video on this laptop, thank you! It's unfortunate that the Helios has a small battery but I guess it's to avoid crossing over to the Triton. Do you think a Triton battery could fit in the Helios because it would be awesome if it did.

Hey Dave. I asked Lenovo about the Y540 and they have review units available so they added me to the list...I'm super skint so I cannot buy one, I will just have to be patient. They are send me the A940 though - a competitor to the Surface Studio. I like this Helios 300 though, done quite a few tests already !

Acer predator helios 300 2019 looks sick especially with that cooling setup looks well balanced. Damn so many laptop which is the best price to performance to spec ratio. I think will will be up there in the top 5 this year.

Thanks Dax. I'll be able to tell you more in the review. All I have done today was upgrade Windows on it , installed the New GPU driver and done the battery test. I didn't notice it at all. My Triton 500 is slighty worse - in dark movie scenes - like those with black bars top and bottom I see it unless I drop to 50% brightness, not super bad, more of a like a glow in the corner.

You really helped me make up my mind about getting the Helios, and considering it's my first laptop, gaming or otherwise, it was not a decision I took lightly. Make sure if u have any heating problems or problems that don't seem normal for a new laptop, to get it exchanged for another of it's kind. Occasionally that happens, just a heads up.
Thanks, appreciate it! Here is a good review on it. It seems battery life is so/so , design is usual MSI which I don't mind, no thin bezels. I believe now they have a 144 hz IPS and 120 hz TN panel options. The latter is probably what I used on the GT63 and GP63, both had good colour accuracy about 100 sRGB. nice video. im kind of wondering if you could give a recommendation. which should i buy, the 15" or the 17" version. i like big screen but i don't like chunky and heavy laptops.
Here is a good review comparison between both the 15" and 17" models. At 6.48 lbs the 17" one is still fairly portable. www.ultrabookreview.com/27098-acer-predator-helios-300-ph317-53/ In terms of performance the CPU performance I get similar and my 1660Ti performs on par with the 2060 in that one and after my tweaks even beats it in some cases.
Thanks ! Yes, that was another one I had to buy :( Yes, there is an open m.2 slot so you can put any one in there. If I have a spare SATA one I can test to see if it supports both SATA and PCIe. You can also put your own 2.5" SSD in if you like, using the kit they give you..
Talons Tech Talk g sync is not as Important especially if you have a high refresh monitor . Plus g sync makes the laptop have poor battery life because it’s always connected to the discrete gpu and you can’t switch to integrated because of it.

Thanks. Yes, I saw it on their site - but I have even reinstalled the Predator Sense software and the LIGHTING tab isn't there. They show that option on their website but it is not there on my helios 300. As you can see when I compare it to the TriTon 500.
I really think this is the best price-to-performance ratio gaming laptop. I had last year’s but I gave it away as a birthday present to a young family member. Now I’m just gonna wait till they (hopefully) come out with all new AMD version with the new Zen 3/Navi configuration! Nice video though!

In my tests the 1070 MQ and RTX 2060 were about the same, so with this on turbo boost you get about the same. This Helios 300 is on target to run for 5 hours in my battery test, that isn't bad and it does give you plenty of storage options. If I recall the Zephyrus S was about 4 hours. I think I would go for the Helios 300 on that basis plus it is cheaper and may well have more resale value - you get a 9th gen CPU vs the 8th gen

Thanks William. I have measured 94% sRGB, 65% NTSC, 70% adobeRGB, 315 nits at 100% brightness, 850:1 contrast at 100% brightness. I think it is definitely capable for creators. Still doing lots of testing for the actual review.
Can you test noise (db) and temperatures not on auto and not on max boost but manually set rpm to about 80% of max speed? I think it could be great setting for everyday gaming. I was waiting for exactly this model review, thank you for your reviews, saw so many of them already :) Great first impressions, like many others said, great job, one of the best channels on YT.
I have found that the 3750h holds back the 1660Ti quite a bit. In my testing of the TUF505 it made it run like a 1660Ti MAX Q, so in my opinion the $200 extra is well spent.

You know how well does it perform against the hp omen with the exact same specs? Omen is a bit cheaper and has an SD card reader and thunderbolt 3. The acer has killerpro wifi card which I think is better But what else is different? Sound, heating, built quality, screen, brightness, durability.. And even bloatware, etc..
@@zeiadabdelrahman5924 I do not know HP Omen, but as far as i concern, the screen quality is well enough to do content creation. sound is also great. overall built quality is better than the previous version. heating is not an issue with this device! with turbo boost, the GPU acts like G Force 2060 somehow. definitely way better than Helios 300 in 2018.

Few months ago I was looking around for a new laptop and decided to go with The Helios 300, partly thanks to this review... I've revisited the video since and realized you mentioned the Helios doesn't have RGB keyboard, yet mine does... do you know why?

Thinking of getting this laptop or the Zephyrus G, how is the battery life in this laptop compared to Zephyrus, I need it to handle a day of word document writings at school, so 4 hours, can this laptop manage 4 hours of word and/or youtube playback?

It’s a nice looking and powerful laptop. The only problem is that the fans are extremely loud. If you don’t mind the fans, it’s great for gaming.

I know that the 1060 gtx is probably an overkill as I really dont play AAA games or think about them. I just needed a laptop for music composing and producing. So a good cpu and lots of RAM. i wish helios had more storage as i really need it but i can add more. Does it get hot even when not playing graphics intensive games ?

@@violetpandemonium The y540 1660ti only comes with the 60hz screen i believe, making this an easy choice. The hard choice is when the 2060 version with the 144hz panel goes on sale for 1200 like it did last week with the 17" version.
I am on their waiting list :( They have them on the desk- I expect that they will go to the larger channels first :(

I agree that the Predator Helios delivers a really good spec with its price point and i hope i can get it by this year... but ASUS ROG is a brand with legacy that some people might prefer over other laptops considering that it is in the Zephyrus lineup which is known for their heat management

I had issues on this one. My clip on mic failed to record to the unboxing so I had to use the audio recorded by my cell phone that was taking the overhead shot. In editing I bumped it up by 3 db and it sounded ok when I played it back. It's not my usual set for sure, I must have just forgotten to press the record button on my zoom handy H1 recorder...

It's unfortunate that the Helios has a small battery but I guess it's to avoid crossing over to the Triton. Do you think a Triton battery could fit in the Helios because it would be awesome if it did.

Hey Dave. I asked Lenovo about the Y540 and they have review units available so they added me to the list...I'm super skint so I cannot buy one, I will just have to be patient. They are send me the A940 though - a competitor to the Surface Studio. I like this Helios 300 though, done quite a few tests already !

Acer predator helios 300 2019 looks sick especially with that cooling setup looks well balanced. Damn so many laptop which is the best price to performance to spec ratio. I think will will be up there in the top 5 this year.

Thanks Dax. I'll be able to tell you more in the review. All I have done today was upgrade Windows on it , installed the New GPU driver and done the battery test. I didn't notice it at all. My Triton 500 is slighty worse - in dark movie scenes - like those with black bars top and bottom I see it unless I drop to 50% brightness, not super bad, more of a like a glow in the corner.

Make sure if u have any heating problems or problems that don't seem normal for a new laptop, to get it exchanged for another of it's kind. Occasionally that happens, just a heads up.

Thanks, appreciate it! Here is a good review on it. It seems battery life is so/so , design is usual MSI which I don't mind, no thin bezels. I believe now they have a 144 hz IPS and 120 hz TN panel options. The latter is probably what I used on the GT63 and GP63, both had good colour accuracy about 100 sRGB.
Ghosting not quite as good as a 144 hz one.
Cooling is good.

In terms of performance the CPU performance I get similar and my 1660Ti performs on par with the 2060 in that one and after my tweaks even beats it in some cases.

Thanks ! Yes, that was another one I had to buy :( Yes, there is an open m.2 slot so you can put any one in there. If I have a spare SATA one I can test to see if it supports both SATA and PCIe. You can also put your own 2.5" SSD in if you like, using the kit they give you..

Talons Tech Talk g sync is not as Important especially if you have a high refresh monitor . Plus g sync makes the laptop have poor battery life because it’s always connected to the discrete gpu and you can’t switch to integrated because of it.

Thanks. Yes, I saw it on their site - but I have even reinstalled the Predator Sense software and the LIGHTING tab isn't there. They show that option on their website but it is not there on my helios 300. As you can see when I compare it to the TriTon 500.

I really think this is the best price-to-performance ratio gaming laptop. I had last year’s but I gave it away as a birthday present to a young family member. Now I’m just gonna wait till they (hopefully) come out with all new AMD version with the new Zen 3/Navi configuration! Nice video though!

Should i buy this or the asus zephyrus s gx531 gtx1070 max q its on a discount its currently going for 1375$ where as before it was 1799$ ?
In my tests the 1070 MQ and RTX 2060 were about the same, so with this on turbo boost you get about the same. This Helios 300 is on target to run for 5 hours in my battery test, that isn't bad and it does give you plenty of storage options. If I recall the Zephyrus S was about 4 hours. I think I would go for the Helios 300 on that basis plus it is cheaper and may well have more resale value - you get a 9th gen CPU vs the 8th gen

Thanks William. I have measured 94% sRGB, 65% NTSC, 70% adobeRGB, 315 nits at 100% brightness, 850:1 contrast at 100% brightness. I think it is definitely capable for creators. Still doing lots of testing for the actual review.

The Asus is $999 at microcenter with the 120hz panel, ryzen 7 3750, and 1660ti. Is this acer worth the 200 dollars more?
I have found that the 3750h holds back the 1660Ti quite a bit. In my testing of the TUF505 it made it run like a 1660Ti MAX Q, so in my opinion the $200 extra is well spent.

You know how well does it perform against the hp omen with the exact same specs? Omen is a bit cheaper and has an SD card reader and thunderbolt 3. The acer has killerpro wifi card which I think is better
But what else is different? Sound, heating, built quality, screen, brightness, durability.. And even bloatware, etc..
@@zeiadabdelrahman5924 I do not know HP Omen, but as far as i concern, the screen quality is well enough to do content creation. sound is also great. overall built quality is better than the previous version. heating is not an issue with this device! with turbo boost, the GPU acts like G Force 2060 somehow. definitely way better than Helios 300 in 2018.
