      @@JarrodsTech wtf ur australian? Damn. I honestly had no idea, and I've watched some of your videos over the past year since getting a fx505dt-al043t, now I have noticed sort of thermal issues. It can get pretty hot up to like high 60s to maybe 70s, I've only figured out lately that I can limit the cpu tdp by the battery profile so I have it like 20% for school since then it'll last about 6 hrs but before that a whole 6 months I've been bringing my charger and it lasts 2 hours or 3 hrs max ... Well it is a 3rd generation ryzen but guess I should've expected that and the battery is limited. How do I make sure thermals won't go into high 60s the bios or software included doesn't seem to do much besides the the battery profile

    I had one of these for 20 days. Luckily in my country ASUS gave 60 days return guarantee on TUF laptops as part of a promotion. My heart broke as I loved the machine but I had to return it. I was experiencing thermal throttling in almost every game, in some cases pretty severely occurring every two minutes, in other cases once or twice per hour. It's quite the possibility that I was just unlucky and my machine was simply faulty, but I choose to return it and get my money back. I'll choose an different manufacturer and will definitely side with Intel next time.

    Hey man! Great channel, I always look forward to your reviews. I just recently bought a ASUS Zephyrus M with an I7-9750H and an RTX 2060. I also have a cooling pad. One thing that I do to try to get the best cooling is to raise the back of the laptop a little bit from the cooling pad to allow for better circulation and it helps a bit more, doesn’t make a massive difference, but pronounced than the difference that you are getting. Anyway, just another little piece of info. Keep up the great work.

      Cooling Pads won't cool Zephyrus laptops that much (almost no difference)

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah if the Zephyrus is one of the ones that lifts up and has a flat base I'd expect almost no change from a cooling pad, it really depends on the specific machine though. I've been testing the cooling pad for the last few months with many different machines and it really varies

    First of all, you are the best laptop reviewer on the tube. I don't understand why you don't have more subs.
    Secondly, I bought the Fx505 with i7 + gtx 1060 you originally reviewed a few months back. I had to send it back after testing it for a couple of hours. The speed of the fans, even when set to quiet mode, generated an unbearable level of noise. And I am not talking while gaming, I am talking of staring at the desktop screen without even moving the mouse cursor. I was looking forward this AMD solution to see if it could be quieter. It seems that combining a gaming and quiet laptop into the same one is still out of reach. Maybe in future...

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah that one is a little above average in terms of fan noise, not too much though, this one is a little quieter though, I suspect due to lower powered CPU that doesn't get as hot.

And fortnite on performance settings (graphical settings where you also have directx 11/12) will reach about around 100 fps. So this thing can take some good turns. I have the 505-DU and while gaming like BF5 or Anno 2205 the average CPU temperature is about 87 to 90 degree. Sometimes it goes up to 97 to more than 100 and the CPU starts throttling for a moment. Room temperature is high here in Thailand, about 30 degree, but I use a cooling pad and a big fan is blowing fresh air directly to the laptop. I am concerned that this high CPU temperature could be harmful and wether it could be a warranty case. I think it's not normal. Bios version 307 and chipset driver up to date from Asus website. Good to hear I was able to help! Liquid metal can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, so definitely look into some guides for applying it. I have never done it myself, but you need to do a fair bit of preparation work to ensure there are no leaks or other issues. As it's conductive, if you get it on the motherboard or other components you can kill the machine. It would likely help improve thermals, but if I recall from my G3 review thermals weren't the limit as it runs with a lower power limit to avoid getting hot. Yes it would also depend on the metal used by the heatpipes in that machine, and I'm not sure what that was.

      Razer Blade is still flawed product in terms of cooling - if they provided more exhaust area such as side exhausts they would perform much better. Same goes for display hinge covering rear exhaust. They refuse to change that simply because they want their products to look as close to Apple products as possible even if it impacts the performance.

      @@JarrodsTech Hey Jarrod. Yes, but balanced mode makes an enormous difference. The NBC review shows just how much difference it makes (42-45 dB compared to 50+ on everything else). Unlike many other machines who only have "silent" modes designed for light use, the RB in balanced mode can still play games at the highest settings with high fps numbers.
      I think this point is lost on a lot of tech reviewers. I know 2 people who bought the Blade based on the balanced mode fan noise (coupled with a relatively small loss of in-game fps). These are expensive machines, and a lot of adults aren't comfortable sitting in their study with some ridiculous RGB jet engine.
      Even Linus also makes a point of telling users to stick with balanced mode.
      I'm not sure why so many reviewers focus on fps benchmarks. It's fairly obvious what a machine fitted with a 2070mq + i7-9750h is going to net you fps wise (at least a ballpark figure). What's far more interesting is what the temps are like, what the surface temps feels like in use, and whether it sounds like a jet engine. And then on top of this, whether there's a mode which reduces performance by ~10% while decreasing noise by 30%.
      Anyway, I really appreciate your work. Been watching since your initial P650RE Metabox review :)

    1:04 . After several weeks observation between ryzen 3750h and 1660ti thermal, yes they are affecting each other because of the heatsink. First i got 70 -80 Celcius degree on the processor full running gaming with only integrated gpu ryzen 7, when full running along with 1660ti with 75-85 Celcius degree and the processor got 80-100 Celcius degree. I assume that was overheating and made the processor throttling. I've done repaste with noctua nt h1 and it seems not much helped with same outcome. what about your opinions if i cut the heatsink between cpu and gpu? It will make no change. I start my tests off by running Aida64+Heaven and leave them running for 30 mins before doing anything, by this point full heat saturation has taken place, the is no further change if I leave it running for another 10 hours. After this first 30 mins of heat soak, I then let each data point run for a further 30 mins and take the average, so I am confident these are worst case (at least with a 21c ambient temp).

      @@JarrodsTech Thanks for the reply! I love the depth you are going to in your reviews. Measurable, objective data free of BS and fluff. Kind of the antithesis of the all too common 'unboxing' video calling itself a review.
      For $20 or $30 I am tempted to try a cooling pad with 3 fans in a triangle layout. I think I can get 2 fans directly under the 2 bottom vents. And as long as it has some USB ports, it's not money wasted since it can be cheap 'docking station' if it doesn't cool much.
      Do I NEED extra cooling on this notebook? Nah. Do I want it if I can get it? Sure, cooler is always better. But based on your data, I am basically expecting to buy a USB hub that MIGHT, as a bonus, cool the system a bit.
      My craziest idea is to do something like this:
      th-cam.com/video/INfSuqxtvIg/w-d-xo.html
      Custom build and place some Noctuas perfectly in the grill to hopefully force some cool air into the bottom vents (I do have a high opinion of Noctua, so logic is, if a couple of Noctuas can't make a difference placed optimally, then nothing is going to make a difference on this notebook and I can rule out any temp gains with a cooling pad)
      At the end of the day, we are probably only chasing a few degrees.... it seems ASUS actually engineered a good cooling design into these books, so I suspect big gains will only be seen on notebooks that aren't as well designed for heat dissipation. Kudos to Asus for this btw.
      I am definitely looking forward to your comparison of cooling pads. If either of my ideas actually pan out and show any gains, I will be certain to let you know.

      To be clear, hitting the power limit is the expected scenario. Being able to hit this rather than thermal throttling is preferable. The 3750H is rated with a 35W TDP, so this is expected, we're getting full performance. Many Intel laptops only go to 45W, but some manufacturers do allow the CPU to run above spec with higher TDP, not sure if any AMD laptops allow that though, this is only the second one I've ever tested so I don't know if that's something they do.
