This video reminded me of the fish I used to catch when I first started fishing sooooo many years ago at about 10 years old. I loved pulling out creek chubs and small sunfish simply because itty bitty creeks were all I had to fish at. One favorite spot was a culvert under a nearby road. The tunnel seemed then to be about 6 feet high, but I'm sure it was smaller. I always watch your newest videos just to see what sort of entertainment you'll provide, and you DO provide entertainment as well as fishing tips. Keep making these great videos, John.
The good ol Minow trap. My Mother showed me as a child how to make one out of a big mason jar and some kite string. Lol, and it worked like a charm. Great videos Dude!

Those Nikko small caddisflies are absolutely amazing for me. Whenever I fish like this, the small caddisfly is the ticket. It's no surprise they outcaught the minnow trap. Nikko also makes what they say is the world's smallest soft bait....a tiny little maggot like thing. They do well, too, although the caddisfly is my favorite small bait.
I have a ‘trap ‘ just like that. I caught an 8 inch cat fish in it. Prob bigger the that. But my trick is to drill holes in a can of cat food. You will catch a lot including Crawdads. 🤨 Keep up the good work be safe !

That one little fish went in and back out of that trap .I had the same problem with a trap that has the solid rings on the ends. I cut those rings out of mine so it looks like my old style ones and dont have that problem anymore. Cool little video as always tho .Keep em coming man God bless.
Just for perspective, when I'm trout fishing in the Smokies, I like to use size 16-18 dry flies; most people use larger ones, 12-14, but I figure the smaller ones won't spook as many when they're skitterish. I've never gone smaller than 20, but believe it or not, it is common to use dries and nymphs in the 24-26 range on tailwaters, for very large trout - they have large midge hatches, and the trout are very selective in feeding on them. I don't know how anyone could see well enough to thread the tippet through to tie one on.
We use bread to draw in the small fish at my dad's pond and then use a cast net to catch bait. I also use the cast net with 1/4 inch holes to catch shiners and black suckers in the creek. It would definitely be more fun to use an ultralight though. 👊👍

I use to have a lil' yellow 🦅 eagle claw rod & Shakespeare reel I loved for ultralight micro fishin' but lost it. It probably would have made a ice fishing combo.

Your eyes must be waaaaaay better than mine to be able to tie a size 20 hook on 1 lb. test line! I've gotten to where I can't hardly tie 8 lb. test in a size 1 worm hook LOL!

i ended up cutting a small piece off and it worked on the smaller hook

I've used old two litter bottles to catch crawfish for smallies. Never tried to catch creek bait fish on a rod. Your videos are great.

Pull your bread into smaller pieces and get a smaller cord that big piece of rope spooks the minnows

I use Ramen noodles to bait my minnow trap. Use Killifish mainly. Those things just never die. While shiners die really easily.

In Louisiana we are not allowed to keep game fish caught in traps. Even to use as bait.
UMBRELLA NET, ROPE AND POLE WIT BREAD TIED WITH RUBBER BAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NET. THAT WORKS WELL WHEN YOU ARE IN A HURRY.
