      If you're getting into it, downsize your presentations quite a bit. 1/16th oz Mr Crappie jig with a 2.5 inch Z Man slim swim is a KILLER combo. It comes out weighing exactly an 8th oz and casts like a dream and catches fish to boot. I caught 23 Largies in one day last week from the bank fishing this set up. Super durable, very fishy, 100% worth it.

    I've mostly fished lakes & big ponds, I don't have a lot of river fishing exsperiance. We moved down southern SC little over a year ago. The Savannah river is super close to my house. So I've been fishing it more. I've caught largemouth striper mostly few small mouth in shallow rapids. I definitely have a lot learn about river fishing learning how to find the less obvious current breaks & eddies

    Here lately(since early fall) I’ve been using the 6th divine on a weedless weighted hook or on a weedless underspin and man the largies have been straight demolishing it! I fish it the same exact way, slowly very close to the bottom with a slight pause or twitch here and there. Love this technique!

      @@richardkeller6940 hey. So I use the 3.2 and 3.8 late fall winter and early spring. Upsize to the 4.4 late spring to early fall. I fish it the same way the whole year. Slow and close to the bottom with a pause or twitch here and there. The baitfish I have here in NC is mostly bluegill/bream, panfish. So I stick with those type colors like baby bluegill, bluegill fire, gill dust, bluegrass magic and of course black n blue flake. The weedless underspin I use is Strike King Belly Blade Jighead. They absolutely can’t stand it or they freaking love it because they attack it like a maniac lol!! I call it my skunk buster

    I have been fishing like this for years! It is a killer technique. Thanks for the video man! I use a 1/4 oz jighead with a light weed guard. I have gotten away from anything under 10lb flouro. My local creek is full of nasty snags, and old metal stuff. I still lose quit a few so I'm thinking I will go down to 8 now. Great video man! Also I slay walleye on this technique. For walleye I alter retrieves from a slow steady like you are doing to slowly lifting and dropping. Walleye seem to love the old lift and drop.

    Watching from New Zealand. Thanks. We fish with swimbaits in salt water. We use spinning reels mostly. I use a daiwa certate which has double the drag of your slx. 22 pounds. Our graphite rods are thinner and lighter than yours. I don't understand what you said about bait casters having better drag than spinning reels? In my experience drag is measurable.

    I used swim baits in saltwater and what you say is spot on.
    I like to countdown as it sinks so you can anticipate the bottom and avoid snags if that's a problem.
    If strikes occur on the drop it gives an idea how deep and it's kind of a depth finder too.
    I like to leave slack on the drop. Many keep tight and watch the rod tip. That makes the lure drop at an angle.
    I let it go slack but watch the line. It should have a slight belly not loops and slop.
    You see the belly twitch and you're on.
    I don't do a hard set. They're usually on and if they're not they keep hitting. Hard sets scare them. Plus it might be a halibut with a soft jaw. Sharp hooks rule.
    As soon as it hits bottom the slack increases.
    I take out the slack and lift the rod tip and relax. Watch the belly. Breath.
    One of my favorite plastics was a helgamite worm with legs like a centipede. In root beer color. It slayed them.
    Worm type baits can get extra use by pinching off the tip and it's just shorter.
    Had good luck with one rod with a swim bait and another with a flashy spoon like kastmaster or krocodile.
    Fishing the bottom with a cheaper swim bait gives me a rest.
    Cranking the top and midwater with the iron keeps me warmed up and the expensive lures off the bottom.
    Where are you where the fish are eating the paint off of your boat?
    That's not fishing. That's catching!

    @jeremyowen1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, you fish weird too. Right hand retrieve but you predominantly cast right handed. Have you always fished like and have you ever tried to switch to left hand retrieves to keep your rod in your dominant hand? Was taught with a right hand retrieve by my mom who was left handed and not much of a fisherwoman. I tried switching this summer myself after fishing like that for 20 years and even after a week it still felt like I was learning how to fish all over again. I don't feel very disadvantaged honestly, though it's certainly more efficient to keep your rod in the same hand.
    It's neat seeing someone else fish like that, especially someone as successful as yourself. I also wonder how common it actually is now.

      All my baitcasters are right handed, I just do the switcharoo. Spinning reels are lefty. I wish I would have thought about it before getting used to it because it makes sense to use left handed baitcasters if you’re right hand dominant but it’s too late for me 😅

    • @jeremyowen1
      @jeremyowen1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoctorSess Yeah, it seems really difficult to switch hands. Honestly, I think it's beneficial to always have your rod in your dominant hand for both baitcasters and spinning reels. A big reason why I'd like to switch is because of a video from 6 years ago called "Casting Accuracy with Adam Royter." His casting technique is incredible. Definitely worth the watch and practicing.

      @@jeremyowen1 you get used to switching hands pretty quickly but it does make more sense to use left hand retrieve if you’re a righty. The thing is I learned on right handed baitcasters so that’s what I bought. It’s not that big of a deal though since I don’t think I’ve ever lost a fish because of it. I’ll definitely check out the video thanks for the recommendation.

    Here's another river smallmouth vid! Mean, hard-fighting river smallies are my favorites!

    Is the whale swimbait the same thickness as the megabass spark shad swimbait? I think the megabass is to thick.

    Nathan, I wish someone would have told ME about plastics about 20 years ago , but they didn't exist except for bad plastic worms. About 15 years ago, we were mixing live bait with lures or Lindy rigs. Then 13 years ago plastics hit the market and we were all using them. I assume you are older than 13. When did someone tell you this was a thing?
