I bought a couple of those plastic preformed ponds, i catch bait and buy goldfish and that where i keep my bait for the year
Try putting your bait in a ziploc bag and then snip one of the bottom corners off just a bit. The water can go in the bag but it will allow your bait to dissipate more slowly
That’s the kinda place I like the umbrella net. Net gets full jerk em up and go home lol
Look at the clover leaf minnow traps. Facebook marketplace, place in Northwest Iowa had some. I don't use bait for minnows.
When it gets warmer float a pallet in your pond and the minnows should spawn on it
Dry Cheerios for Bait they work really good
Get some mesh material and make some bait bags. That way you just move the bag out of the way. If it were me I would use chopped up shrimp in a bag.
Not sure if you do, but, you should fill your minnow holder, with water from your pond, instead of water from where you get the minnows. That way, you do not introduce any nasties, from that water, into your pond. Also, for crawdads, etc. you need a meat based bait, like worms. Also, should put the bait in something, and connect it, to the trap, to keep it isolated, so, when you, take the minnows out, they only come out. Plus, you can use less bait, as it will stay together, and, last longer.
If you have creeks that are shaded with deep holes like the beaver dams you blow when those fill up again those will be honey holes. Anything shady and deep with undercut banks are killer spots

1 gallon caning jar make funnel with screen. Use lid to hold funnel in place. A little corn meal in jar. Stick and string to keep jar in place..
Hey man try just straight cheapest hot dogs only break them into chunks I did a comparison last summer and it out did anything else by double. I think it's because the hotdogs take forever to break down so they have to go in the trap.

I always prefer the rectangular traps that fold flat. They're easier to store and carry, as well as they have a seperate bait pouch so the fish and bait don't mix together. They're probably not as durable as your traps though.

One more thing you can make some kick ass minnow traps with 1/4 inch carpenters mesh a tube soldered with a cone on each end and a trap door in the middle. The seem to like the bigger traps.
A couple of the fishing channels I watch use cast nets to catch minnows and other small bait fish. Maybe you should get one of those and throw it in that spot where there are so many minnows.
Panty hose with bait avoids separating your minnows from your bait. Just make a panty hose ball and throw it in. You can make them in advance and have them ready

If they consume the bread in the trap don't the minnows just bloat and die before or shortly after you trap them? Or does it matter for what you're using them for?

You can also use can cat food with ice pick holes punch in the can and tie it up in center of the trap will work great

If u can even catch 50 minnows every 2 days thats gotta save a fortune at the bait shop in the long run but might be worth setting up a couple of quarantine ponds have them at somthing like 0.6 saline and keep then for a week in that so with 2 u could fill one for a week while the other one sits so once a week u could add a ton in

take the top off a can of cat food and put the can in the trap. cat food with fish in it works best
Try some sort of meat base bait. I read one of the other comments said canned cat food. I always used beef liver, but sometimes u would get a snapping turtle tear up your trap
Those black traps don't work as well as the silver.
I've had more luck out of the shiny metal traps than I've ever had out of the black ones. Idk if it's the coating they use on the black ones or what.
Black minnow traps suck. Especially the rubber coated ones
It's to dark I think and it's thick instead of thin see through. Similar to Martin Fisher and bobcat boxes 1/2 " by 1/2 " mesh on 5he back of them much better than 1/4"

You should build a small stalk tank pond to farm your minnows
Try and catch a few more big crappie, 12-15 inches, and put them in there.
I have a few in there pushing 14

Jay do you have any minnows that can spread disease! We have an issue up north with the raised minnows "suckers" get a white fungi that they spread. Way too much bait in the traps, you will get better results if you would use less. Like 3 pieces of dog food or half a slice of bread is more then enough per trap, especially on small and still water like that. I personally would use a small ball (egg size) of ground bait cause small fish like small particles and in 24 hours thats gone when checking the traps, no messy bait leftovers.

I actually had a gee’s minnow trap delivered today
Hang a treble hook with worms in the middle of the hole, so it’s visible from both sides
I use either a small amount of dog food or no bait at all. Find a deep hole in a crick. Also, you can make clips out of clothes hangers. Good luck!!!

Bread sucks they can eat it from outsid the trap fish heads or poke holes in s a can of cat food
MDC used to have a fish collector permit you could get if it was educational based. I think your channel is educational. It allows you to seine and keep species you otherwise aren't supposed to using a seine. I was replacing a preserved fish collection in HS that was 20yrs old. Not sure if it would apply to a pond but might be worth checking out. We caught all kinds of crazy looking fish I had no clue existed in MO out of a small branch of the Salt River.
