Thank you very much, I appreciate that. I try hard, and also have a great dad myself that taught me how to do a lot of what I know. I appreciate him for that. Thank you for watching, it means a lot to us
Those kids will remember the sound of the trolling motor through the hull forever! I remember that sound from over 5 decades ago! Brings back fond memories! Congratulations!😊
Now that’s a compliment! 💙 Thank you! They sure do love it, if you could see in the first video, it crushed my 4yo boy when I was going to take the girls that day and he and Otto had to wait til next time. He broke down crying but his sisters ended up letting him go instead. Lol. Then our dang batterie had to be dead that day 😂. Great times!!
On the store minnow trap you're using it wrong, you don't 'bend' the tab, you slide in the two matching tabs on one side, fold together and the clip holds it on the other side, there is no gap.
Thx for commenting! I’ve never used this style of trap, it was my brothers trap and I was using it as an example of the different types. Someone showed me the proper way of using it lol. Oops 😅
A little tip is I put gallon marks on the inside and outside of my buckets so I don’t have to always lift them to check the marks great job keep them coming
Thanks for the tip! The shoulder start burning after holding the bucket up in front of my face lol. I will definitely give it a try. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the minnow trapping update! Whenever I’m on my way to Grand Rapids to Sissebakwet (Sugar) lake, I always stop at Fred’s Bait. Looking forward to what you have up your sleeve next. Thanks
That’s awesome! We use to grab all our gear (tackle line bait and anything else we needed for the week long trip to LOTW. At Fred’s Bait n Tackle. Boy was that fun! ) about 4-5 years in a row. He would have everything ready n boxed up. Everything we needed for multiple species . Thanks for watching and I’ll try to keep the videos interesting! 😁
Thank you very much! The kids always look forward to the next adventure. I love it. Also reminds me of spending time with my siblings and dad when I go over footage. I’m starting to realize how fast they grow. My girls are going to be 10 and 11 soon and I remember taking them out with us when they were my boys age (2 and 4) and it doesn’t seem that long ago! Thanks for commenting and glad you liked our video!
I'm a farm boy and dad took me to the field with him every day before I started school. I was driving a tractor before I was in 1st grade! But it was just considered "normal" by everybody because we were almost all farm kids in school. The most important thing that it taught us wasn't driving a tractor, or anything else about farm life, it taught us a good work ethic. It was normal for farm kids to work. We didn't have a summer break like the city kids, we had chores to do and we did them. And not just because we were told to do them but our family depended us to do our part. And we all carried that into adulthood. The thought of not working is just a foreign concept. And a concept that I don't want to think about. I'm 67 and the thought of retiring is scary as hell, because I've always worked. Those kids are learning a valuable lesson that has very little to do with trapping minnows. But I watched this video and the one before, just to see if I'm doing it right. (I use a small trap like the one you held up at the end of the video). I realized right quick that we're on totally different levels! I'm just going fishing and only need a dozen or two and you make a living at this! It's funny, I never once wondered where the minnows at the bait store came from! I guess I always thought that they trapped their own. I've been enlightened. Thanks for posting this! I think I can learn a lot from you.
That is awesome! My dad and uncles also grew up on a farm and grew up helping my grandpa logging at an early age. My dad and uncles dropped out of school to help grandpa with work. They were doing as you were doing, they were making a living! My dad raised us kids to have a work ethic. Taught us to work for everything we have. I thank him for raising me the way he did, I couldn’t imagine myself being any other way. He brought us fishing and hunting whenever he could. Lots of memories with my brother and sister in the boat and on the water. I appreciate you watching the videos! Thank you! And thanks for commenting, I love to hear feedback about our videos and content. Minnows can be a hit or miss, you just have to keep trying, moving or adjusting the trap. Early in the season is a great time to capitalize on the minnows. After the weeds and cover grow, they spread out a little more so you just have to keep grinding! Take care and be safe out there!
Thanks! It’s so fun having the kids with. Difficult at times yes, but so worth it . The memories we make out there will always be with us. Thanks for watching, we appreciate it!
I couldn’t ask for a better Outdoor Crew! There’s always someone rip roaring ready to go! 😁. That was a fun one, especially when the traps are full! Leeching coming up too when the water warms up a little more. Thanks for watching Ray! Appreciate the feedback!
Thank you it’s a lot of fun. The kids love it and we all get a healthy dose of fresh air 😁 the kids sleep good after being on the water or in the woods. We all do ! Thanks for watching ! We will be uploading more videos real soon!
They sure are! And they are great for counterbalance when lifting traps and the minnows over 😁. They keep me entertained that’s for sure! Thanks for checking it out brother! I’m looking forward to you kayak videos this year!!
@@reservationoutdoors I just pulled my first successful minnow trap ever this morning. It’s one of those smaller ones like in ur vid and I caught 303. We’re not allowed live bait, so I salted and froze them. Ended up with six tubs. I came up empty the first three tries, but watched your video yesterday. Got off my butt and went out and set it again last night. Couldn’t believe how full it was I used a chicken neck as bait. Thx for the tips pal! Frozen minnows here are $8 to $10 a tub.
Hey thanks! No problem, appreciate you watching. We will be uploading more videos soon. Also a “Back to the Basics” section about all the basic parts to the outdoor activities we record
Much Love and Respect Sir! What Nation is your people? Florida is Seminole nation. Still learning from the original peoples! How do you store fish before sale? You and the boys are amazing! Grateful and thankful for all the nations. Blessings from the swamp.
We are from the Red Lake Nation (Ojibwe) thanks for watching and we appreciate the compliments! What kind of outdoor activities do y’all have going on in the swamp? I’ve heard of the Seminole, but I don’t know anyone who is
Great kids, great Dad, quality time. Reminds me of my youth. That little trap works better if u use the quick release snap that holds the line. That holding wire will break u bend it a couple times.

Yes I learned how to correctly put that style of trap together lol. It was my brothers trap, I was using it as an example of different styles of traps. Thx for explaining it!
I used ol Roy dog food in these vids. Also the kids added milk bones lol. But any kind of large pieces dog food I prefer. Once it gets soft, less of it will float through the holes.thanks for watching!
at 8 dollars a dozen for crappie minnows, im gonna try and start trapping some of my own I think. Looks like you had a great haul. How much do you get for a gallon of minnows? Very good info.

The grader I was using is a (minnow saver) brand. You can order them online. It depends on the size of the bait your trapping. Larger baits need larger graders.

Do you trap during the winter? Also I have found that in streams they seem to disappear during the winter. Any advise other than fish in deep pools during the winter? The stream I catch them is about 10 - 15 ft wide and about 4-6 ft deep. Catch all kinds during the summer but winter my traps stop producing. Any advice? thanks!

It was an aerator that you can order online. But I power it with a deep cycle batterie . That batterie will power that aerator most of the day before it gets too low.
I use dog food. I like the larger sized pieces because when they soften up in the water, they don’t float through the holes as easy. Ol Roy is what I used in these vids
Thank you! And yes I do have a guide service, (KingFisher Guide Service) I have a Facebook page or you can email me @ kingfisherguideservice20@gmail.com. Thank you for watching and I appreciated he comment!
@Reservation Outdoors I live on the pike creek. Off lumberjack rd. I see good healthy minnows. I haven't determined what species yet. Your welcome to come trap our section of creek.
We always use dry dog food. This was cheap alpo good with a cpl ol roy milk bones 😁. But you can make dough balls, bread, oatmeal balls, cat food. I like dog food because it’s bigger and when it gets soft it doesn’t fall through the mesh as easy.
All depends on the type of minnows. Fatheads are the cheapest and go for anywhere between $15-$25 per gallon. Spottail shiners are worth more, ranging anywhere from $60-$90 per gallon. And I’ve heard of red tails going for $90-$120. But that also depends on supply in the state. If minnows are hard to find bait shops will pay a little more to have them
That black trap you showed sucks their is a silver version that works alot better but I have never seen a minnow trap work as good as the first one you pulled up
That's a lot of minnows... 2-3 thousand? You must have a huge bait tank and go through a lot of them. In KS you can only posses 500 wild caught bait unless you have a commercial license.
You are operating the small black trap wrong you do not bend the clip, by the way don't ever buy the black minnow trap minnows do not like it they shy away you must get the galvanized !
Do NOT bend the wires on a Walmart model. They are bent for a purpose. It is like a lock on lure boxes. put the one in the holes and close then put on clip retainer. There will be no openings.
Great point! But I don’t trap a lake until I don’t get any big minnows. I’ll leave a lot just to repopulate and the smaller ones will naturally grow as time goes on. But thanks for the info and great point! Thanks for watching!
If we had more Dads like you this world would be a better place

For crappie minnows, usually around 15, fat head walleye minnows, 20-25. Per gal. All depending on the demand of the species of minnows.
holy shit man! Nice haul! I am only 5 minutes in, and that one trap is awesome. I imagine you hook up your uncle

Where did you get your minnow grader? And how do you know what size to get to separate the minnows from fat heads? Thanks for posting
The grader I was using is a (minnow saver) brand. You can order them online. It depends on the size of the bait your trapping. Larger baits need larger graders.
Awesome video buddy keep them coming.

Enjoyed very much. Do you guide?
Thank you! And yes I do have a guide service, (KingFisher Guide Service) I have a Facebook page or you can email me @ kingfisherguideservice20@gmail.com. Thank you for watching and I appreciated he comment!
What do you bait the minnow traps with?
I check my jars every ten min
Where do you get the minnow grader from
Not sure where this one originally came from, but the brand is minnow saver
Have you ever trapped the pike creek?
I have, but not a ton. I e heard at the right times the shiners are thick in there
@Reservation Outdoors I live on the pike creek. Off lumberjack rd. I see good healthy minnows. I haven't determined what species yet. Your welcome to come trap our section of creek.
What is the size of the opening of the sorting box
I’m not sure the exact measurement, but I will take a tape to it and let you know!
Great video, thanks 😊
Cool trap
Cool video
Thank you
I just want to ask what do you use for bait?
We always use dry dog food. This was cheap alpo good with a cpl ol roy milk bones 😁. But you can make dough balls, bread, oatmeal balls, cat food. I like dog food because it’s bigger and when it gets soft it doesn’t fall through the mesh as easy.
@@reservationoutdoors ok thank you
How much do bait stores pay for a 3 inch .minnows per pound????
All depends on the type of minnows. Fatheads are the cheapest and go for anywhere between $15-$25 per gallon. Spottail shiners are worth more, ranging anywhere from $60-$90 per gallon. And I’ve heard of red tails going for $90-$120. But that also depends on supply in the state. If minnows are hard to find bait shops will pay a little more to have them
Where you get the trap at you make it ?
These minnow traps were made by my uncle and grandpa. But i was hoping to make a video on how to make these type of traps . Thanks for watching!
What do you use for bait
Ol Roy dog food. Any kind of large sized dog food will do the trick though. Thanks for watching!
his little boy reminds me of me !!!!😆😆😆😆😆😆
Miigwetch for the awesome video
Miigwech for watching! The kids have been on me about making another vid so we will have more videos coming soon!
The heck! 40 minutes video😮
Sometimes it takes time to get all that info in! lol. Thanks for watching, hope it was helpful
How do you make your trap
I’ll be doing a how to video soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
How many Minnows per Gallon, approximately??
I get about 12-13 reg minnow scoops. The scooper you would buy at a store. Way more minnows per scoop than you would get from most bait shops
How to build this minnow trap.!?
That’s a great idea, hopefully in the near future I can do a “how to build a minnow trap” video. Thanks for watching!
I get 28 cents a chub
That black trap you showed sucks their is a silver version that works alot better but I have never seen a minnow trap work as good as the first one you pulled up
I noticed that. The tab broke off one side of the trap, and I noticed the gap where the 2 sides connect. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks bro
Anytime! Thanks for watching! This is a great way to save a few $ and save a few trips to the bait shop! A daily process where we fish!!
those tabs you are bending is the hinge use the clip to open the trap dont bend the other tabs or soon they will
break off
I have been educated on this style of trap. I was miss informed lol. Thank you for letting me know, also thanks for watching!
You just have to undo the clip and swivel on those tabs that you are wrongly bending !
Thank you for that advise! Not use to them, just used it for the video to show different styles. Thanks for commenting and watching!
That's a lot of minnows... 2-3 thousand? You must have a huge bait tank and go through a lot of them. In KS you can only posses 500 wild caught bait unless you have a commercial license.
I have about 4 tanks. One big one and 3 med sized. If I get a large amount built up I’ll take a break from setting
PS I AM IN ONTARIO CANADA
cool
Ty for watching!
You are operating the small black trap wrong you do not bend the clip, by the way don't ever buy the black minnow trap minnows do not like it they shy away you must get the galvanized !
I was taught how the wrong way lol. I was instructed how to work it correctly, but thank you for pointing that out. I’ve never used the kind.
WOW……. 😳😮
Do NOT bend the wires on a Walmart model. They are bent for a purpose. It is like a lock on lure boxes. put the one in the holes and close then put on clip retainer. There will be no openings.
I'm no expert, but if you keep releasing small minnow fish, your basically selecting small gene to breed. Should consider releasing some large minnow.
Great point! But I don’t trap a lake until I don’t get any big minnows. I’ll leave a lot just to repopulate and the smaller ones will naturally grow as time goes on. But thanks for the info and great point! Thanks for watching!
teach your kid to fish you feed him for a lifetime !!!
😇😇😇
They’ll know how to put on a good ol fish fry that’s for sure , they’ll be taking me out one of these years
