Back when i was a teen my uncle showed me how to make one using a gallon pickle jar,a piece of screen wire and a piece of trot line and crackers...worked really good.
I bait my trap with a couple Ramen noodles. Works great. Cheap too. I put my trap in brackish water. Catch Killifish and shrimp. Literally hundreds of each.
Found one in a trash bin im a garbage man brought it home and threw it in the creek behind my apartment and left it for two days went back and this thing had about 15 creek chubs now i got them in my 45ga fish tank hoping they will breed by themself so i can have ready bait
Saw a guy do an interesting test similar to yours but the last experiment included a green glow stick from Walmart in both. His theory was that one trap was more visible to the fish than the other given certain water conditions. perhaps it's worth a shot in your location
Sculpin are really dope. I had one in my native tank. I literally have no idea how to identify what one it is tho theres 2 in my state i believe but one is extremely rare.
I got tired of the steel traps turning into rust , switched to the black coated , catch all i need most of the time and switched to dog food , much better bait , cool vid !!
I didn't think about them rusting. I really haven't used dog food since I don't have any dogs, I usually just use one slice of bread. thanks for the info
As long as you already have both types of traps... See how long your Black vinyl last compared to the Gee's G-40. 1) Be sure to check on the gap between the two halves. You won't need bread/zip ties for the Gee's G-40. 2) See how long it takes for the hinges and front snap loops to fall off. 3) Let us know how long before the metal under the plastic coating rust out. People have had a Gee's G-40 trap last long enough to pass on to their kids. The black vinyl isn't even worth recycling after 6 months. Maybe someone from the Black vinyl company will replace Michael's trap in a couple months. I'll be sure to set you up with some accessories that will fit your trap and they will also outlast the Black vinyl. Keep in touch. Thanks again,Greg Popovice,Tackle Factory
I don't know if this will help you but You can try using some clear coat spray paint 3-4 coats might help also put the rusted ones in a tub of Vinegar that should break down the rust.
Hi Rob, The Gee's G-40 is galvanized to help prevent corrosion. The rate of corrosion is dependent on the type of water conditions that the trap is exposed to. Nothing last forever. But when taken care of properly I have seen Gee's G-40 traps that were 10 - 40 years old and still in use. And as for spraying the trap there is galvanizing spray that will help protect the trap as well.
I once stumbled upon one of these traps when I was a young man I lifted out of the water and it had at least a hundred 2in true bluegill and two pieces of shrimp In a man made lake far from salt water. You should make same video and use shrimp vs dogfood
My father in law gave me a black one, said he never had much luck with it. I took and tried it, same story. Creek was full of minnows and never caught the first one. LOL
I got a trap and it SUCKS. there is a big gap where the middle meets, it’s all bent, and all the fish get out and I f*cking hate it I hate the black fraibil however you say it I give it 0 STARS I want to ask my mom if I can trade my crappy one for the silver one
Gee's are the best! Frabill traps fit together really bad. I've modified the couple of frabills I have left. I burned the black coating off and cut the rings off the entrance. I use wire to close up the gaps on the seem, but it's inconvenient. The only time I used the Frabill traps is when I have to put them in a high-traffic area where they're easily stolen.
Now if people would just stop stealing my traps, that would be great.... never had this happen for 35 years of fishing, then about 6 years ago it started.....different locations
Very useful comparison! Thanks!
Thanks, now I know
Thanks
Ordered mine straight away from your link

Sounds like a fun challenge
You answered my long time question. thank you!
Have u ever tried Vienia sausage

i will have to try that
@@CreekFishingAdventures I bust them up a little.
The two people that did a thumbs down are bait shop owners.

I've had similar results as you and thought it was great when I saw your video.
Yep, silver always works best. Best bait for mud minnows is fresh dead crab, if you are in an area where you can get it. Especially female crab.

The unknown fish at the 4 minute marker looks to be a sculpin. Unsure if it's a mottled or slimy or some other but definitely a sculpin.
Imake Do thanks for the info. I didn't know there were different sculpins. I think somebody told me it was a banded sculpin.
Sculpin are really dope. I had one in my native tank. I literally have no idea how to identify what one it is tho theres 2 in my state i believe but one is extremely rare.
Silver trap attracts the fish, or the black trap is not as visible to the fish.
cut the washer off the black one and expand opening to state's legal limit

Can dog food works well, and it wont float up to the top, they have to go in and get it
Ramen noodles work great.
Have you had to use bread ties to keep your black vinyl trap together yet? Are the welds separating yet? just curious.
not yet I have been using both of them and still always get more in the gee's

maybe get one thats not bent

I don't understand why you would use a trap that doesn't work as well in that case. Are the frabills cheaper?
Nice job. Glad to know the trap I have seems to be the best.
I have had the same results...go silver.
Just one more video on how the Gee's is just better than the frabill. Great video
Use dog food. Far superior to bread

I have had a few "stolen". Pretty sure it has to be young kids.
What kind of degen steals a minnow trap
i use gees w dog food
I'm going to have to get a bag of dogfood just to keep for my minnow trap.
Dry dog food = lotsa minnows.
your right
Poor minnows
