Any serious Hendrix fan will tell you just how good a performance this is by Randy because he captures all those little nuances in Jimi's playing almost note perfectly. It amuses me somewhat that some people are criticizing him for producing a near flawless copy of the fillmore version, do you have any idea how hard that still is to achieve in an AUTHENTIC fashion with the FEEL of Jimi's playing? If he was falling short in some way then it would likely be the opposite, "well he's good, but he can't do it just like Jimi". Guys give the man some credit where it's due. There are numerous performances of Jimi's songs on youtube by very highly regarded guitar players and they never come near to what Randy does. He is the closest thing that you are going to get to the real deal while he is still around.

+james cava It;s not note for note, not even Randy wants to go THAT far. Randy plays the majority of the song faithfully right, it's amazing really, how much work Randy has done to capture most of Hendrix's phrasing. There simply will never be a more realistic guy to cover Hendrix, Randy is as good as will ever get without getting TOO creepy and trying to play exactly the same way as each Hendrix LIVE version goes. Jimi played machine gun different every night, Randy has to mainly play the classic version, that;s what the fans want to hear, I bet Randy could really go to town in his own way, but its not really what he is up there to do.

I'm always extremely sceptical whenever I see a video of someone covering Jimi Hendrix. It pretty much never lives up, not even close. But that shit good. It's very rare to see a guitarist who can actually properly imitate Jimi. The tone is great, the playing is on fucking point, all those little noises, dynamics, all the subtle nuances in vibrato and bending that Jimi had, the energy, just perfect. The dude is truly a scholar of Hendrix, can't even imagine how much time he spent studying his playing.

I have played in bands for around 30 years in the style of SRV, Hendrix, Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher and the like. Out of all the guitar players i have seen and heard nobody comes close to capturing the soul, vibe, feel, and tone of Hendrix and much more than the Randy Hansen band. Randy doesn't just play the same notes but also takes it to an even higher level that Hendrix could have gone to had he lived. Where some players try to overshred playing 1000 notes a second to Hendrix, Randy keeps it real and never loses the soul of Jimi.

I have been playing guitar since the 1980's and have figured out everything from Van Halen to Yngwie to Satch to Vai to Paul Gilbert and everyone in-between. Jimi, on the other hand, has always been a challenge. To think that Randy learned Hendrix off of the records is absolutely amazing. The fidelity on the Jimi records may have been state-of-the-art at the time, it's still extremely difficult to figure out his licks and rhythms. I mean, really difficult. Randy must have spent hundreds of hours and messed up dozens of records figuring out Jimi's songs. Here are are in 2021 and not many guitarist can play Jimi with any proficiency.

This sounds exactly like Jimi Hendrix. It's amazing. Even more amazing is that Jimi produced the exact same sound more than 50 years ago, with technology from that time.

This just goes to show that people we love do not die. They just manifest in another body. This is the spirit we all fell in love with. Any Jimi lover knows it... It would be so cool when Randy gets the credit and universal love he deserves. Love to you Randy ...serious love.

I’ve never seen a musician attempt to perform this whole song. Randy does it like Hendrix. He still tour and I strongly suggest you see him when he comes to your area. He is the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix.

I don't even imply he's better than Jimi. If you are a guitarist you know people don't want you to play it exactly the same way,all the time. That is showing no creativity,& trying to go beyond, but he's the Best Hendrix Tribute band on Earth.. copying covers, doesn't make anyone superhuman, just a great copycat.

This is my Nth time watching this, and RH's first solo, from Jimi's famous, piercing cry to the universe at about 3:40 to some 3 minutes later, is some of the most inspired playing ever, regardless of genre. I don't care that Randy's mimicing Jimi, the heart & FEEL that RH injects into his playing can't be taught. Just a pure joy to listen to.

He’s unreal to see live. I went to see him at a club in Malibu in 1990. I met him and his band before the show. He was dressed in regular clothes but an hour later he was in full valour and blew us away. He’s been doing this since the 1970s and he actually plays Jimi as good or better. I know it’s playing someone else’s music but he has perfected it. This version is something great. A great musician playing the music of a legend

I cried listening to this. Absolutely, without a doubt, the best rendition cover of "Machine Gun" I have ever heard. I was 12 years old in 1968 when I was given "Band of Gypsies" album by someone I didn't even know. I listened to that record almost exclusively for years and years. Played the record, started over. It got ingrained into my bones. This is like listening to Jimi, God rest his soul.
