I completely agree with you Mr.Anand sir. Not everyone can become manager. Only some people have people skills. Only some people can fully understand their team members and they manage, influence their team members accordingly. If you guys want to become manager, you should have to fully understand your team members and should know how to talk to your team members and get the job done from your team members accordingly. Not everyone is fit for managerial roles.

I have worked under four managers and three of them are bad to the worst, only one manager was very good. I have had a completely polarized work environment. Some of the new managers simply parrot what they have seen other senior managers were doing, hence the vicious cycle continues. It looks like even companies don't care about training these managers on right ways to deal with team

Not judging here, but have you ever considered that the problem might be with you, one of the things I noticed is when there is a common denominator i.e when you issues with multiple managers the problem might actually be with the team member and not the manager.

I'm a critical resource in the team, what do I get in return?, more and more work, nothing else and extra long hours. I made a point to be empathetic with my team once I become a manager, my health has got impacted due to these people

@@rahulmohanan26 Consider this point of view also, when so many people are complaining about managers in the Indian IT sector, there may be an issue with the system itself?. Coming to my personal experience, the authority doesn't flow from bottom to top, managers can't have problem with me as I have been a critical resource in the teams, hence, I'm burdened with work which require extra efforts, which in turn led to long hours. If you are a manager, I'm sorry to say, don't assume things like this, you are doing a disservice to your team members by putting everything in some baseless theories

The original sense of words of "manage" was “to handle, train, or direct a horse”.
For Managers : please realize that your horses are your partners to guard your livestock, to win a race, to fight in battle, etc.
For Staffs : despite the fact that he/she often rides you, please realize that your manager is the one who cleans up your stinky manure

Many people become manager or senior positions just because they worked for longer years in the same company even though they does not have enough skills.
In IT industry knowledge sharing is very poor. Nobody wants to share their knowledge with their own team members who are with less experience..
Most of the senior guys just act like they are busy even though no productivity comes out from them.
Truth is in most cases wrong guys gets promoted just because they know how to fool the customers instead of how to support the customer.. Management calls it as skill.. 😂😂
Point : if you can fool or convince the people who talks to you then you are capable to become manager.

Please make a video about SHARING of Your Skills and Knowledge / i.e. Providing KT to Juniors/Peers and Team....Is it Risky for Self ? Because you are giving the Knowledge for which you are working and getting a High Pay ...and then if Juniors Learn the same , then Company/Project will not be dependent on you and you be on a Risk of Low rating and Firing.....So, How to deal with this as I want my skills be Limited to Me only ...and then Management want to Rrain Juniors ....How can this be Politically Played where your Position in the Project/Company is Secure ...Because if Everybody for eg. A 2-3 Years Guy Know what you Know as a 10-12 Years Guy ...than Your Job is of no use....Is it Bad to Share knowledge in IT Industry...

See its not about dancing, women are easily getting promoted on two ways one the companies are in like women empowerment which is actually a gender discrimination against men.
Secondly the middle and high level management always wants something to entertain them.
Many managers easily fall and become prey in front of sexy smile or just if you put a stick with some cloths they will fall for it. 99% men also have this problem.

The thing is a large number of those who goes on to become manager have different priorities for themselves after being promoted. A major number of them has d single point focus of creating their own large ARMY of YES MEN to survive within the organizational bureaucracy. For juniors the art of coaxing your managers is the primary skill to keep moving within the organizational chain.

My soft skills are pretty good, I think from myself. On top of the info in the video, I also understand that as a team leader/manager you need to protect/buffer your team from the pressure from higher management. One problem I might face is that I would be too empathetic with the team members, so I might brood about their (personal) situation and how I would be unable to help etc., which is not a good thing.

The problem here is people management itself is not considered a role anymore. People managers should be good at softskills, EQ, Communication skill be it oral or written, should be able to mentor and coach, be a listening ear and help in providing constructive feedback and help in career growth. Only such people can actually identify where you fit in the organization. The notion of not having People managers is a wrong perspective.

I was really shocked seeing a highly technical but toxic person working towards becoming a manager. I have seen many toxic people being managers basically with no notable skill. Employees try their best to be on their best side to get their favor. It is such a sad system. It impacts many people’s health severely.
Many companies don’t actually care even though they say they care. It is really sad. But that’s life.
I live in US so the climbing up the ladder by becoming a manager does not apply in my case. I believe consultants and higher levels have more respect than managers. They seem to be more admins but value goes to the others i mentioned.

Here is a simple trick: Don't think of yourself as a "manager", think of yourself as an "enabler, a supporter, a networker" to help the team and projects achieve greatness. It will help you put your ego aside and focus on closing silos and enabling the team in becoming successful. It will help you communicate the team's needs with stakeholders better. It will help you give feedback in the correct way to people. It will help you reduce office politics and provide clarity and value. It will help you balance requirements from the top with the needs of those you "enable."
