I'm glad this OP figure has a good paint apse, weapon storage, less kibble, nice articulation, and complex transformation. The shield part is a good idea, I'm surprised that there is no a backpack kibble like the AoE Leader Class OP even the voyager class figure has a backpack kibble. Takara should make a figure of Bumblebee.
Great review! The sword is the handheld sword Optimus used from DOTM, and can be used for the Leader DOTM/APS/MB toy. The axe is also made for the Leader DOTM/APS/MB mold, due to it being modeled after his axe from DOTM. The shield also is designed after DOTM Optimus' shield, and can be used by the DOTM/APS/MB toy. Also, Optimus did have the Energon sword in AOE, but his hand transformed into it.
My biggest problem with the AoE and TLK designs is whenever they transform to robot mode, the only thing I can think of is "Where did the truck go?" The truck dissapears, and that just doesn't lead to practical transformations for the toyline. Then people complain about shellforming, but there really isn't any other way to do it.
yeah, that's M.Bay's fault... he had not clue what the transformers were... he watched a few episodes here and there of various TF shows across 2 decades and decided he was already an expert on transformers

ExodusGaming I think they should have kept the DOTM Optimus prime. Just get rid of the Flames. But for AOE and TLK Optimus, the head was cool and the truck was cool. The sword was cool too, but it's time for the star saber. So we would have a DOTM Optimus with no flames, an AOE and TLK head sculpt, that includes the Star Saber and Megatron's shot gun to remember him. (I mean like, Megatron did help him even though it was for a different reason.) For truck mode, just the Western Star truck would be awesome. And a built in jet pack is better in my opinion than a giant jet pack. Just my opinion.
By the way, don't be upset about the "blade that was suppose to come out the arm" BUT in dark of the moon, he uses the sword, in his fists. So they actually got it correct.
If you look at the scene in DOTM where he is fighting the driller and Shockwave in Chernobol you can see he has a handle version of this sword (and the Shield all these shield sprung from - most commonly know as the UFO 3rd party shield accessory). The changed it a bit as they went - he started with just one that slid out - then he had 2 that slid out in ROTF that can also form a hook and then in DOTM he has a handle version of it. I did see somewhere (in some design drawings or something) that they were also going to give the forearm swords an axe mode - but I think that got cancelled the axe here seems pretty similar to the one he has in his trailer in DOTM too... which is a nice combination with the shield but a lot of this stuff is only visible in a pause. The versions of the Movies that have the horrible teal and blue filter on them make it even harder to see anything too.
It would be worth my money if hasbro makes another voyager prime but with his knight gauntlets... And if you think im crazy take a close look at his arms in aoe before and after he pulls the temenos sword... If this does happen i won't mind spending a little... If not i call on Dr. Wu
what i like about the voyager than this is only his shoulder pads..its more accurate to the movie. somehow they should make this caliber shoulder better.
I say parts forming is ok if it is done well and not just done to be lazy. In this case it look as a cleaver solution to kibble and feels as a natural way to handle it. In most parts formers where they take the lazy root do the kibble transformer to things which cant even be identified as weapons or equipment. We can see that in most common in beast war series. Also part formers as omega supreme is awesome where the whole robot is build around part forming and not just a lazy solution.
AWESOME! THIS is the reason why I sold my Takara Armor Knight Optimus Prime a while ago. I was worried when I did not see an improved version of Prime come out because the "Premium" Optimus Prime from Hasbro is a huge step down from Armour Knight. Thanks for the review and the comparison. I can't wait for mine to come in the mail!
max chavez I have that mold and they for sure do if you just push them back all the way... They come mistransformed in the package but the definitely tab in so they can look less ugly and avoid being so far forward
well, technically you dont have to remove the shield to transform him from vehicle to robot mode, but you lose the sword and axe storage, also the shield detail would be hiden and the backpack wont look as good, but still, i like that the PARTSFORMING isnt mandatory
I prefer my Armor Knight. Not digging the oversized shield. They Shlda thought this out and made it a jetpack. Although I'll take the backpack instead of taking parts off.
I'm Got The Voyager Version and I will get this one for the weapons also I haven't watch the whole video yet so is the sword that this Prime has fit in the back of the voyager if no then okay also looks a lot more better with the backpack removed and becoming a shield
come on franz when was the last time you saw DOTM? both the shield and the small blade are a refrence to the scenes from that movie. For example when Prime meets shockwave. the blade is hand held
What up Chefatron and friends. Love the vids, know im chiming in a little late here. But I recently grabbed this mold and notice some minor paint imperfections on the shield. Mine split at the hand when I tried to put the weapons in his hand, I tried shaving plastic off the weapon handles and nothing has worked😭 I also payed over $100 for him
I don´t like how he always says "this way" or "you don´t want to break that tap". It´s so annoying and makes watching the transformation boring as hell. Also if you realy want to show us the box, don´t move the camera (btw. boxes are always boring as long as it isn´t anything special like a recreation of a G1-box or anything like that). And finally, cuts can make it so much easier if you want to compare two figures.
Aw man the hell with Armor Knight Prime, Caliber Knight Prime is where it's at. Why Hasbro got cheap and just re-relesed leader class Armor Prime for TLK is so fuckin lame..

In addition to the Energy Sword, Gold Shield is also included in my purchase.
CONS: Big Shield, balance loss quite easily.
