I think this figure is good for those who pose their figures as opposed to those who play with them. From a playable toy standpoint, it's understandable to say that the effects part should be a missile or the cannon opens too easily. On the other hand, the aesthetics of the figure and the flame part make it look badass on the shelf. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's up to how you play with toys. If you want to mess around with it and transform megatron over and over again, I'd say get the voyager. If you want a megatron dominating your shelf, get the leader. Honestly, I'm probably going to stick with the voyager. Also, I apparently don't have a life.
Great review! While I understand your complaints, I still like the figure and the the cannon gimmick doesn't look that bad. This toy kinda reminds me of hasbro ROTF Leader Optimus. Annoying transformation, good robot, good vehicle, okay articulation, meh paint apps, arm weapon gimmick that makes the transformation harder.
Also the gun may not look accurate in comparison to the voyager but, by looking at megatrons pic at the top of the deluxe class. It serves as also a shield I think

I think the trick for the cannon to not be as annoying during transformation is to fully retract it so that it can fully close the side panels that kept popping out in most cases. I only popped mine once when I converted it to jet mode. Loved the transformation too and that battle mask! Awesome! Looking forward to your movie review for TLK. More power!

I like the leader better, it has a faceplate that can open up and show Megatrons mouth. It looks Screen accurate if you make the cannon smaller. And the jet mode is amazing!

I came upon this review because I wanted to see if the mask gimmick on mine was a dud but it looks like they're all like that where the horns don't close all the way to make the battle mask. Great review, it's always nice to find another honest reviewer that actually reviews the figure and doesn't sound like a salesman for Hasbro. Keep up the great work!
Tanner Jones to me it was the arms but the robot mode wasn't too bad looking and the 3rd party upgrade made it far better in my eyes at least but I'm not judging your opinion and i respect it and heck I even don't like the leader last knight Megatron that much as the voyager

Got this figure on Thursday, I feel like I can manage to transform it now after this.... Do you have a video for the optimus leader figure? I agree! I mean cmon he gave it a 7/10! and the things hes pointing out are valid flaws. The instruction booklet is even incorrect and if youre not careful there are multiple steps where you can end up breaking the wings.
Are the flame effects on 5mm pegs? If so, wouldn't be too hard to find better uses for them. I'm hoping they do a "G1" Megatron color deco for this guy, but I will pickup the voyager for sure! Hopefully Weijiang or KBB upscale the voyager or do some fixes for this figure.

why are you making the transformation sounds like a tiring chore? The transformation is so much simple compared to the ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime. If anything, I can only agree that nose cone mechanism is badly engineered...
I'm so conflicted about which Megatron to buy. Should I get a more articulate and movie accurate Megs I can use for stop motion films or should I buy a more playable and gimmicky Megs that can also antagonize my amiibo collection?
Honestly, I'm really conflicted too! Personally I would purchase both and decide which one to take back from your own experiences with each. If that isn't an option for you, I'm not sure how to help. The latter definitely seems more fun (and sometimes triggering), but in the end it comes down to which would be more optimal for you. Best of luck!

The hollow arms and oversized cannon annoy me greatly. Although I love the battle mask gimmick a lot and the jet mode is spot on, I'm going to get the Voyager for the better screen accuracy.

Personally I LOVE effect parts, it just makes a figure so much more dynamic and unique as opposed to a run of the mill missile which usually gets left out or lost to the aether after a single accidental shot. I would love if more transformers would come with them in general.
He looks so good in robot form how can you not love him. If you only want him for robot form you can't go wrong yes? The face plate always reminds me of the alien in the seat of the crashed alien ship in aliens. I love the thoughts that it reminds me of. I only bought him for robot mode.

The effect parts don't cost as much joints and extra paint. plastic is cheap enough the only thing that costs them money is the mold. And that's easy transformation for something you complained alot about. I'm all about it but the size is quite large so I can see that being a problem for some ppl. Anyways if you learn to be a little light handed, at least with THIS figure it won't be so much of a problem. OR you could just wait ro close the nosecone til afrer that's what I'll do assuming I find one it puts alot less stress on the gimmick itself wheb it's not going off constantly. Just some thoughts for ya. The other idea is adjust the tabbing mechanism by using some poli-ur. and or ABS putty to build tabs up a little but if just straight polish doesn't work. ;)
I love how a $50 leader class Transformer Toy has a VERY same if not almost identical transformation to its legends class version. Don’t believe me? Look up “legends TLK megatron” and watch both of these transformations. It still blows my mind how the Voyager was better. I love the voyager but still, crazy.
I've been planning to get this leader class since it was revealed as I have the ROTF OP and HFTD starscream and I want this so badly to be displayed with those two. But seeing that cockpit fusion cannon a lot and now the proportions compared to the voyager, I bought the voyager megatron. Maybe if I can get my hands on the updated leader class Optimus, I might get this figure.
That's not a Leader Class. It's a Masterpiece figure. Technically it's an updated Movie 1 figure, just using some similar engineering to the RotF Leader.
I'm not even a fan of the new design of the Transformers in the movies, but this figure looks awesome. I've only picked up 3 figures from the new movie line. I picked up the Optimus from the first movie, Last Knight Nitro and this Megatron. I hate most of the other new designs, but I can admit when a good figure comes out, even of I despise all of the movies after the first.
I don't think there has been a bad Megatron figure from this line, in my opinion atleast.

mine has extremely loose hip hinges to the point where it can barely stand on smooth surfaces. does anyone know a good way to tighten those?

TIsaacs leader, it has a face mask, flames, and a shield/gun. voyager cant do squat. and the voyager has a worse paint job

Here's what I find interesting, the Takara release of leader Megatron (TLK-19) is more affordable than the Hasbro release.

The "updated" Leader Optimus is basically the same as the original AoE. Unless you mean the extensive retool by Takara.
