This generation of NVIDIA GPUs has been an odd one. With confusing names, questionable VRAM amounts, and high price tags, picking a GPU to power your system took a bit of research. With the new Super cards here, does Adam think this makes your choice a little easier or even MORE convoluted?

The 4070 Super is what the 4070 should have been to begin with
Just like the 20 series supers except they didn't get shamed into it as fast this time
my 1070 should have been the 4070 super bruh to begin with
@@srobeck77 my 970 should've been a 4070 super to begin with
Not even because they both should've been cheaper.
just with minimum 4 more gigs of vram
It's a step when they needed a leap. They made it a little bit faster when it needed more VRAM and a much lower price
It only amd would drop the 7800xt to $350
why doesnt your precious AMD drop the price then? I thought they care about customers over profits?
You now starting to realise both dont care ahuh?

@OP it's 12 volts, not 12 pins :)

I love that digital foundry and shortcircuit managed to have the same title

Reminds me how all those game "journalists" were saying that Horizon 2 is like Mass Effect 2.
DF came out first
It's pretty funny how tiny the 4070 super looks at this point
That's because it's really a 4060.
My second hand RTX 3080 for $400 is still one of my best used buys. Been using it for 11 months now.
10 or 12gb version?
Killer deal. I paid over $1300 for s 3070 during the GPUpocalypse.
I was eyeing for one but the lackluster Vram and 300W+ power draw turn me off after seeing the power efficiency of the latest gen
@@LuigiVNThat's painful. I got my 3080 for £600 but came with £100 of games and extra. Took months to get lucky enough to get it during the GPU hell, I missed out on it a fair few times before when restocks came in
I raise you 490 euro for 3090 few months back. But your deal also rocks 😁
the entire 40 series linup "it's a great card, but it's still too expensive"
Costs the same as a 3070 ti at release while being worlds better in performance and features. If it's too expensive or not "good value" I just want to give you the solid life advice of get a job. Honestly the amount of time people spend crying online the words "it's too expensive" if they actually worked a job they could easily afford luxuries.
@@donkeymoo1581 How out of touch can you be? You know there's more expenses to life than a fucking GPU, right?
@@flagwashere I do, like going out on a saturday night for 1 night of entertainment is £300-£500 with food drinks and entertainment and then I spend the same 500 on a gpu that lasts me at least 2 years.
Bit ironic calling people out of touch when in comparison to what people spend on 1 night/1 week holiday is fraction of what a gpu costs that lasts for years isn't it lol. People dropping 2-3k on a 1 week holiday to a 4* hotel in a boring place like turkey and you wanna cry about value for money in graphics cards 😆It's like people think oh big cost and then it's gone. It's literally an investment for years of your life and I would pray you have the bare minimum intelligence to buy lower tier gpus if you understand you don't game much.

@@yamsbeans But according to your miss information content creators even 12gb of vram is dead so your 3070 ti is beyond dead right? That would make sense why it costs more then seeming according to linus.... hw unbox and so on you can't game on a measily 12gb of vram on cards like the 4070 or 3080 and the 3080 12gb released for 800 dollars too so seems to line up according to what these content creators are telling millions what is "usable" now.
Great thing about these amd shill channels. The miss information they are spreading only promotes people into buying more expensive nivida cards than they even need to. Instead of buying a 4070 super for 600 they gonna give nivida 200 dollars more because they think they need 16gb vram. Short sighted shilling doesn't realise they are actually giving nivida more money from it. No one is gonna drop rtx card premium features to go amd just for more vram so all they are doing is pushing them up the nivida card stack wp guys show that off to your amd contact.
I'll wait for the 5060 TI to provide the same performance.
better wait for the 6060 ti for more performance or the 7060 ti when do you stop? you're not getting this year of waiting back dude just buy whatever and enjoy gaming.
lol better wait for 6060 ti same performance like 4090
@@Adrian-ep4qm Seeing as how I already have a 3060 TI i think upgrading is a bit premature.
Yeah, but it'll also be $500, two years after it's introduced.
Just don' expect more than 8 GiB of VRAM hahaha :D
The RX 7600 XT is 128-bit bus unlike 192-bit that Adam mentioned. Also the reason Nvidia can't put 16GB on the 4070/4070Ti/4070Super is because they use the AD104 which has a 192-bit memory bus. Since memory size determined by (bus width/32-bit)*(VRAM chip size) you can only have 6GB/12GB/24GB on a 192-bit bus. They sure as hell won't put 24GB on a 4070 Super.
Would really love to see a few 30 series cards in the graph maybe smaller labeled last gen at the bottom? I have a 3070 and I would really like to see how a direct upgrade would effect gameplay for me.
You know Nvidia has lost its mind when a $999 gpu is consider "reasonable"
You know consumers* have lost their minds when a $999 GPU is considered "reasonable".
Not to be “that guy” but the simple fact we can….as consumers….purchase a piece of equipment with BILLIONS of transistors is a manufacturing miracle…even if it’s a couple hundred overpriced.
amd had multiple gpus that released last year over $1k why are you targeting only nivida? Smells a bit like fanboy in here lol
@@matthew5395 Yeah I get people's point and can agree to a certain extent. But your milk is like 6 to 7 dollars now, what did you think would happen to high-end electronics.
L2 cache is bigger on super right?
edit: yes it's bigger 36mb on 4070 and 48mb on 4070S
Im probably gonna wait til the 5070 ti/super or the 5080 ti/super to upgrade. Seeing as im still running on the 980ti, im well beyond the point where I should be upgrading but I cant bring myself to support these still overly-inflated prices.
Look into a 7800xt, yeah yeah i know “AMD suxxx lol” but look at the less than 10fps difference compared to the 100 dollar more 4070 super in this video. Its a great card (and it has 16gb of Vram) unless youre dead set on using ray tracing in all your games
Lmao sheesh thats old but good job sticking to it. I have a 3080ti and plan on upgrading when the 5080 ti super comes out too.
@android175 you would think it is, but I play all my games on 1080p, so I still dont have trouble getting 144 fps on most games even when I moderate or high graphics on.
you think 50 series is going to be less inflated? its only going to get worse dude i'm afraid.
@@TroublesomeOwl its about performance value, not necessarily inflation.
The low memory bus bandwidth not being upgraded is disappointing.
Yeah $349 gpu moment
For AD104, it appears that 192-bit *is* a fully enabled bus. They designed themselves into a corner.
@@joeykeilholz925 The last gen 3060 Ti for $400 has a 256-bit bus. Even the $180 Intel Arc A580 has 256-bit memory bus width. Crazy NVIDIA cut corners with that in 4000 series.
Yeah the selective downgrades are annoying. With that being said I don't see much evidence it's hurting performance, at least at 1440p which is what I think the cards really for.
I don't think "A step in the right direction" is the right words for it but for me it's "This should have been to begin with" or "Correcting a wrong decision which was a year too late" lmao. And 4060 Ti prices are a complete dog shit.
Yeah, it's a shame because I literally just bought this card because it's at least a reasonable proposition now. If they launched with this they'd have bodied AMD. Maybe that wasn't possible but it seems like a missed opportunity.
this vga undervolt + underclock and play at 1080p high and limit fps to 100. Is it possible to get below 100 watt for power consumption?
_RTX_ _4070_ _Super_ is AU$1100-AU$1300 while _RX_ _7800_ _XT_ is AU$800-AU$900. So, for AU$300-AU$400 more the _4070S_ only nets 10-20fps higher in specific games, and also has better raytracing performance. Although, most raytraced games still require DLSS frame generation to go above 60fps. Pricing also makes little sense currently given US$600 is AU$912 + 10% GST = AU$1003. So, the extra AU$200 somehow comes out of shipping and custom cards. As usual new GPUs are overpriced on release day.
So glad I got the 7800xt instead of waiting for the 70 super...
I really wish that LABS would put the base rig they use for thesting on the graphs or at least make the host mention the base rig before showing the result.
My guess is, for these test showed, something-something motherboard, a 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5 with thight-ish clocks at 6000 MHz.
@abnormaln8 You should be checking *anyone* against a couple different sources if you’re looking to make a major purchasing decision.
And I can’t speak to Digital Foundry, but I’ve seen results where GN was the odd man out among 8 different reviews and never address why that may be or acknowledge it at all. I’ve seen GN make suspect recommendations based on over-engineering snobbery that they failed in the video to connect a tangible benefit for the buyer. I believe he deleted the video, but Steve said once he doesn’t believe in responsible disclosure of (and this was *his* chosen example) something like an account hijack 0-day if it was his “belief” the company was untrustworthy and/or if giving them a chance to patch would “lessen the impact of our expose.”
If you watch him that’s great, but don’t hold “Tech Jesus” up as a definitive source of truth and neutrality.
That was pretty much the laziest review I've seen from LTT on a video card release to date. At least at the end there were a few useful graphs but for a serious review I'll still take hardware unboxed and gamers Nexus as my preferred review sites. A quick overview of the test system specs would have been useful and a few more insightful comments like RT on/off, frame gen comparisons just to name a few details that were grossly dismissed. Anyway at least there was some data and I've already watched several reviews earlier so it's enough to confirm I'll be waiting for the next gen cards at this point
@abnormaln8 I mean, Ijust want them to improve. I've already watched HUB and GN reviews. With some improvement, I think they could be a good "at a glance" review.
@@jcoigny They did say tha a full video with all 3 nvidia gpu release would be coming later. I imagine they just wanted to give a sneak peak. Still, I would still have given the base test specs.
@abnormaln8 So tired of this garbage take based on a few anomalies and some misrepresentation of what they present. LTT is clearly very invested in trying to bring accurate data to the table when they bring out their charts. The labs is a multi million dollar investment purely for that purpose, they didn't throw that money around just for brownie points. They are not flawless but neither is anyone else, and they've done a lot to improve their processes to iron out the mistakes that were getting through.
where is the 3090 comparison nvidia was talking about?
Is the productivity benchmark still on NDA? Even in this one does not have it.

They should have used the faster vram they put on the 4080 Super on this card too. A core increase paired with a small memory bandwidth increase at the same price would make this more appealing.
the graphics processor of the card doesn't support that though. that's why the 4070 ti super has the chip of the 4080.
Wait that's the exact same video title as DF!
You know what pisses me off about this generation. NO CUSTOM DIE SIZES. All we get for their convenience is 4GB dies. We don't get 6GB or 10GB anymore, almost as if the industry gave up manufacturing 1 and 2 gigabyte chips. What a nightmare Unreal Engine 5 has become for PC hardware. It gave Intel, AMD, and especially Nvidia excuses to push consumers beyond their comfort zone by price gauging obscene hardware to match games coming out of the one platform. I remember when 2GB was enough to run basically anything ever, and now people say 8GB is the minimum when it should still be the max for most games.
Putting this on short circuit is gold

I ended up upgrading my 2060 laptop to a 4060 laptop at 140watts and even though it's a significant power bump, I feel like Nvidia is convoluting this whole "which GPU would you want"... it's like they're putting out so many different options and not being totally transparent, them doing that is just going to make more people with buyers remorse..
Don't get me wrong I love how powerful my new laptop is but looking at the numbers of all of the GPUs, it's disheartening to know the power difference between a 140w rtx 4060 and everything else...
The only reason I got this new laptop was because it was close to 1k compared to most other laptops that were still $1,500 or more...
I ended up going with the Acer Nitro 17 specifically the AN17-41-R7G3 model. And I'm rocking an GigaByte M27Q-X 1440p/240hz. It works well but I feel like I'm not getting the full amount out of this 4060 card...

I've been waiting since the 30 series released...I can wait until next gen.
