I think you should be able to flash a unlocked version of the factory firmware on these phones. Here in estern Europe it used to be common practice to buy carrier locked phones, flash non locked firmware and sell them for a profit.
Three of my family members are using Motorola 5g stylus. My brother and I use one plus Nord N100 and Nokia X100. I had Samsung j3 6, LG k30, Samsung s8, LG Stylo 6, LG K30, Nokia X100, OnePlus Nord N100, Nord n200, and my daily is Nord N100.

Fellow Motorola Moto Edge 30 user here~ I bought this for around $105 brand new and for its price, it is definitely worth using as a work/2FA phone. Dual 5G SIM support, decent battery life, NFC, good enough camera system, fast charging~
My mom used to main the lower spec family dollar cell phones (and similar prepaid ones) up until early 2023 when she switched to an iPhone 13 through the internet provider we use - she said the androids were quite slow after using an iPhone and she’d never go back. Great times ❤
You’re talking about slow, cheap android phones. Apple is a flagship device. Try using a mid range or flagship android and you won’t find the issues that a slow and cheap android will have
@@Seawolf.Gamingall of the Verizon branded phones he got are unlocked after 2 months. It's a deal Verizon made last year i think. Visible, straight talk, total Tracfone etc. Any prepaid and MVNOs on Verizon network unlock after 2 months. That's why I've been stacking on those free Motorola phones on straight talk 2 months now. Total wireless galaxy a54 or Moto g stylus 2024 for 50 Bucks is the deal.
This is going to be a thing of the past hopefully soon if this bill passes If you buy the phone out right and it's locked to a network it's supposed to unlock now after 60 days obviously if you're paying on a phone that's a different story. We can buy unlocked phones though if you buy directly from the company or you we can buy unlocked phones though if you buy directly from the company for example if I buy a Samsung phone from Samsung it's unlocked but you usually get cheaper if you go through a carrier so you win some and lose some. Typically overseas though you're going to pay the same price no matter where you go because they're unlocked.
I used to rep Motorola - Moto E4 and E6 Plus were my daily drivers as a young lad. The E6 Plus is still what I use to listen to music while I'm chilling at home, like while gaming or working on hobbies. I think if I ever pick up a Moto again, it's gonna be a Razr.
I'm quite impressed TBH, these sorts of super cheap phones at discount stores are normally only there to entice Grandma to get on the information superhighway! :D
Motorolla user here! Been using them for about 4-5 years now, and won't use anything else! They have some really good ones, and some average ones - the one you got for $75 is honestly a really good phone at a good price! At this point, I use the Moto ThinkPHone (top end in thier line), but I like them - good value for what you get!
I buy these often enough. I do wardriving. So, they provide cheap phones to use as wardriving tends to burn out the internal flash storage and WiFi chips. I use three phones when I wardrive to get the best catch rate. I replace the phones roughly every six months. I never activate them. I've never ran into a problem being able to use them on WiFi.
@@gabesmath105 : It's where I drive around and scan / record all the WiFi, Bluetooth and Cell tower locations, names and serial numbers. This is done for research and amusement. The end goals include the following. 1. What types of hardware are currently being used. 2. To find out what types of encryption are actively being used. 3. To map out WiFi networks using geolocation (this helps improve mapping software). 4. To map out cell coverage.
i generally associate wardriving as a malicious prospect as many people do that to commit cyberattacks on insecure or open wifi networks but i never thought of it from your point of view. I was thinking is my guy admitting to a crime lmao. And then i read your reply. cheers mate
No what I mean by old activated SIM cards is they was already activated when they had service on them a while back and when you pop it in the new phone it will automatically setup the phone without you needing service to use the phone and the WiFi cause the new SIM card in the phone isn’t activated and Verizon won’t let you use the phone without a activate SIM card
@@scottdunn4506that's nice to know I bought a TCL 30 Z from Walmart with the carrier being total wireless it has a sim card without service and i used it to skip the activation screen on a locked TracFone Motorola phone
I Currently use a Motorola Edge+ 5G (2023)... Also, there is a way to bypass the activation screens... Its really weird but you tape the 4 corners of the phone in a certain pattern and it lets you past.
Motorola phones are outstanding value and still have headphone jacks and memory card slots. They also have an almost bare Android install which means snappy response, no factory spamware and early SW updates 👍 I'm in Australia using a Motorola G62 on a US $10/month plan with 10Gb data and unlimited calls/text. Verizon locking the phone SW is illegal in many countries now.
There's a tendency for weird things to happen at local dollar stores... Some folks don't like average Americans getting good deals. Boost mobile has a $60 unlimited plan with the newest iPhone every year. I really like the newest flagship rugged phones with like 20000 mAh + 32GB ram and other fun features for less than $600.
The problem is that many people can't sing up with a carrier and have to opt for these options. Yes, you can get better value elsewhere, but that's out the windows for some folk that live with very limited incomes. I remember running one of these phones with a 10 bucks prepaid card each month because that was all I could afford.
@EmeraldHill-vo1cs there was nothing wrong. To be honest, it was alright. I only got like 1gb of internet and 5 hours of call time which was enough to get around school
4:40 sells well most likely because you don't have to pay to use it. I have one about 15 minutes from me. Going today or tomorrow for craps and giggles.
I'm a recent convert to Motorola and used Motorola Edge Plus phones with the 144 Hz refresh rate and multiyear software support. Snappy and the camera quality is on par with Samsung and Apple. After rocking Kyocera Duroforce Rugged phones for a number of years, these Motorola Edge Plus are flagship phones at a discounted price. Looking forward to 2025 models.
I have been a Tracfone user for 20 years. They use Verizon towers and i always have good cell phone coverage. I have had 5 different types of phones from different manufacturers but all were Tracfones. The Moto one was pretty good but Samsung is the best one so far. My plan costs me about $22 a month with unlimited text and calling and 2 Gig of data usage. I usually order from HSN as they have some good bundles and usually unlimited text and calling. I still have to buy a new plan every month to keep my phone #. Every time I upgrade from one phone to the next model it seems to go up in price about $50 for the purchase but the new features seem worth it and the phone lasts me about 3 years at least. They never break and my last Samsung Galaxy A50 cost me $150 and to upgrade to the next one will cost me a little over $200. These new faster ARM processors keep getting better and faster every generation. I'm totally satisfied with Tracfone. Tracfone carries some Iphones but I won't pay the extra money for that cult company.
I used to love Tracfone, but when I had it they were using AT&T towers. I wonder if they use both now or if they totally changed to Verizon? Back then if you had a regular AT&T plan and you broke your contract phone, you could buy one of these cheap ones and simply put your sim card in it and carry on. Can't do that anymore because I guess they figured out that consumers were actually saving money that way.
It's possible that Tracfone uses different service providers in different parts of the country. When I moved from the West coast to the East coast I had to get a new Sim card from Tracfone but the transition was otherwise transparent. I did change my phone number to an East coast Area code and number. Didn't have to change phones.
My wife and I both use Motorola 5G Stylus phones. We travel a lot overseas and these are just about the cheapest, non-junk phones we can buy unlocked in the US. They work well, have decent cameras, and don't attract the attention of thieves. Even if they were to be stolen, we would only be out less than $200 for each phone, which is an easier hit to deal with than a $1000+ iPhone or high-end Samsung.
I got my first smart phone from a kroger or something lmao. It was like 5-25 dollars with minutes from zte if i'm remembering right. Still have it sitting in a box somewhere. Now all this time later im using the last good moto g stylus aka the 2021 before they started slowly downgrading the specs while raising the prices.
Even though the phones install a lot of apps when connected to WiFi, I bought a Samsung A something from a T-Mobile store and right when I connected it to internet it installed a bunch of apps.
I bought a prepaid vzw phone awhile back as a google maps mule/backup phone, all it took to get past the setup lock was popping my sim in from my postpaid line and all was well. The bulk of it's use was to save me burning google maps into my s21U screen.
I've only owned "dirt cheap" smart phones my entire life. And I'm an software engineer/app developer. My phone now is the moto g 5g I got for $40 on HSN and it does everything i need. Half the trick to accumulating "wealth" is not spending your money on over priced stuff thats more than you need. I'd rather retire at 48 than drive an expensive new car.
I've been using a Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 for a few months now and I absolutely love it. I was using the 2021 model until the camera crapped out and not even replacing the camera sensor itself fixed it, which I took as a sign to just get a new phone lol. The 2024 version is amazing for $400 with 8gb of LPDDR5, 256gb of storage, 1080p 120hz P-OLED screen, 3.5mm jack, sd card slot, astounding battery life. Genuinely the only thing I see to complain about is the short software support although that isn't a problem for me (I was using a Note 4 until 2021).
Thanks for the heads up had to drive a bit but worth it for a cheap but decent backup phone. They also have $10 coupon on their app for the Moto G Play for both Tracfone and Total. I also just love messing with new to me phones.
The Moto G is perfect for backup and emergency phones. Have one in a drawer and in your car and just use them in emergencies. Or for phones you give to school kids to just call and use internet while not worrying about it getting stolen.
Only reason to buy a phone at a dollar store is if you want to use it as a burner phone. You can get as good if not better phones free from Metro/Cricket.
I had a Motorola Moto e6 on Tracfone for almost 3 years. I got it for $30 on a whim after my LG Rebel 4 started to crap out. Now I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A14 5G that I was gifted for Christmas and its been a great phone, compared to my others, but I will never forget the memories I had with those phones.
That Motorola G Go looks an awful lot like the FCNT Arrows We from Japan. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the same thing because Motorola and FCNT (former Fujitsu Mobile) are both affiliates under Lenovo. Cool video. I love a good cheap phone.
When my kids got their first phones I got these cheap ones until they were old enough to take care of more expensive ones! They actually work good if you aren’t a hardcore techie! They definitely come through in a clutch if you need something to get by and keep you connected!
I use Motorola and I have the Moto G stylus 5G 2023. I personally love my phone. It was pretty cheap at $250 and it works great. It runs high intensity games pretty well and can get away with medium graphics on genshin impact without stutter. Highly recommend Motorola if you don't want to spend a bunch on a phone.
I have an iPhone 16 pro max and a Motorola G54 and being honest there isn’t much difference in performance. A phone is a phone is a phone and everything else has come along to a point where even poorer quality (photos or video etc) is still way above average and perfectly acceptable for online everything (all socials and TH-cam etc). My g54 has Dolby atmos, 120hz screen, 50mp camera and does everything I need it to do (I use it when I don’t take my iPhone with me and just need a good phone I don’t need to be precious about). Android and iOS are so similar now it’s irrelevant. Get what you like and works for you! Price doesn’t matter and phones are not status symbols anymore. Great video! Informative and succinct. Thank you
These Kind of locked phones are actually illegal in the EU. The cheapest phones here cost a bit more around 60 to 70€ but i would say that once you reach the 90 to 100€ price thats were phones actually get usable for a long enough time. Also phone plans here are very cheap in some countries being 10$ monthly for unlimited
I have a regular AT&T plan, and I use a Motorola G Stylus 2023 Model, it does what I need it to do, I use my phone for a handful of Websites, Maps, TH-cam, Texting and Talking, an MP3 Player, occasional camera and that's it really. My last 2 phones have been Motorola's, I've liked them but being lower spec phones they start to show it after 2-3 years.

I'm a loyal Moto user! I got a Moto Edge 2023 a couple months ago at Best Buy for $370. It's the most expensive phone I've ever owned. It works great. I find it amazing you can essentially get a "pocket tablet" (inactivated phone) for 25 bucks, running the latest version of android and its not sluggish.
I bought an LG G8 for $40 for music, but then I took my mother's iPod haha. The G8 was good but once I transferred my music the carefully organised music folder I had would be ruined. I hate LG's file system.
The funny thing about the moto g play is that the camera sensor is only 12 or 13 megapixels, it just upscales photos when you use the stock camera app.
Recently, i was in a search for an Iphone 14 or 13(upgrade from an old Iphone 7). This phone was a beast when he was released, but now its just an obsollete. Love your videos🙂
These were the only types of phones I could afford in college until a friend sold me his old galaxy s8 that I used for a couple of years, I still love that phone.

It's such bs. I managed a Cricket Wireless for a few years and first of all the companies just put more and more pincodes and hurdles for the customers switching services. Secondly it leads to fraud because people literally sell available numbers online that then stores use to give switcher deals to folks who would normally just be a new line and not qualify for the switcher deals on phones. If none of that made sense, good, your brain is working fine.
@RemoWilliams1227 Meanwhile if I don't have a plan that includes a phone, I just contact my old provider to transfer my old number to my new provider and I'm good. Or just cancel my old plan online and get a new one if I don't care about the number. Or if I have a plan with a phone included, I pay the phone off, then can just cancel the data plan and put a sim from a different provider in that same phone with no fuss
The Moto G Play is the best of the bunch. My personal experience with it is that it's a really good budget device and I have used it often for work and works great for a travel phone if you don't want to risk losing a pricy phone while on vacation.
I bought a Motorola g play 2024 back in may from best buy when it was on sale it cost 43.00 but I got it for just 28.00 using a gift card it's a good budget phone for playing games and has some decent specs - 50mp camera - 90hz display - Dual stereo speakers - Still has a headphone jack and SD card slot

It has 3 charging speeds, depending what you plug it tinto, fastest being Turbo. it has a very fast fingerprint unlock on the BACK, where they belong, much faster than the in screen fingerprint reader on my samsung. fast wifi, bluetooth never disconnects, overall for the price i dont think you can beat them.
Hello! I'm the proud owner of a moto g stylus 5G (2022) smartphone that I have owned since 2023. It gets the job done without having me sacrifice functionality for the price. Bonus fact: as someone who used to sell these prepaid phones through stores like Metro by T-Mobile and Cricket Wireless, I can verify that the insanly low price for these phones are done what's the expectation that you're going to buy service to go with it. Some people get burner phones from the dollar store, while most of the dealers I've sold phones to where buying iPhone SEs and iPhone 11s.
If you want to try them with wi-fi only, try doing a factory reset and then set up the phones without installing any SIMs in them. Also due to new FCC reg, you can get the phone unlocked after 60 days, cancel the initial plan, and change carriers. If a phone has an older version of Android, it most likely has an old image installed and will need updates of the Google, Chrome and Play Store apps, before you can do anything else and not have issues.
The moto g go is my camping/back up phone. I have premium, so I download a fair amount of videos, and the battery life is just insane. Phone is smooth enough, sound and camera are enough for day-to-day use, definitely recommend. Only issue I've actually had was apps closing out during some serious doomscrolling. Probably my fault, or the sign I needed to put it down. For the price, it's good to grab 2 of them for a mishap on your main. Also, if you see this, give it a full charge and just leave it, I think mine made it 9 days. The g play is decent, I rocked it a few months while I was struggling, pretty similar to the go, as just an emergency backup phone, it's not enough of a difference for paying almost double.

I think you should be able to flash a unlocked version of the factory firmware on these phones. Here in estern Europe it used to be common practice to buy carrier locked phones, flash non locked firmware and sell them for a profit.
nope, bootloader codes for these are held hostage by the greedy corps. and the ROM can't change the sim lock.
@@gabesmath105sim lock is mostly server based but on boost mobile some moto can be code unlocked that's how I got my edge + unlocked

Yeah I went to my memory library.
Heads up: family dollar isn’t technically a dollar store. It’s a discount grocery/retailer.
in europe simlock and this in general is illegal
yeah, but at least you could unlock it without getting charge because otherwise it's a pain in the neck. Especially AT&T

i have that moto g play! i paid 40$ for mine at walmart! its the straight talk one, but you can literally put any of the tracfone sims in any of the tracfone branded phones it dont matter which carrier as long as its tracfone owned you can just put ur tracfone sim in any of them! this is how i got safelink wireless on a straight talk phone! i bought the straight talk one as it was 10$ cheaper than the total wireless or the tracfone varient of the same phone!
Fellow Motorola Moto Edge 30 user here~
I bought this for around $105 brand new and for its price, it is definitely worth using as a work/2FA phone.
Try using a mid range or flagship android and you won’t find the issues that a slow and cheap android will have
The fact that the US still has carrier lock is ridiculous
these phones are subsidized that's why, the unlocked ones cost more.
We can buy unlocked phones, but we can also get them cheaper for locked phones that unlock after a few years
Only on cheap garbage like this
@@Seawolf.Gamingall of the Verizon branded phones he got are unlocked after 2 months.

I've never ran into a problem being able to use them on WiFi.
wardriving? i've never heard of it. i'm sure it isn't driving military vehicles
@@gabesmath105 : It's where I drive around and scan / record all the WiFi, Bluetooth and Cell tower locations, names and serial numbers.

What I do to activate Verizon phones is I have a few old activated Verizon SIM cards and when I put them in it activates the phone
brilliant
Old activated sim cards? Sooo you're still paying for their services then?
No what I mean by old activated SIM cards is they was already activated when they had service on them a while back and when you pop it in the new phone it will automatically setup the phone without you needing service to use the phone and the WiFi cause the new SIM card in the phone isn’t activated and Verizon won’t let you use the phone without a activate SIM card

They also have an almost bare Android install which means snappy response, no factory spamware and early SW updates 👍

You are so lucky in USA. I wish we had a family dollar companies with cheap smartphones

Moto G23 user here, have been very satified with their phones for 2 years now.
idk why old and cheap phones interest me so much but im glad ur here to scratch that itch, great videos
Can you enable usb debugging on these devices? If yes, cant you easily delete the apps through adb/put a custom rom on it?
I was thinking the same thing! I'm sure theses a way to get a custom rom and get wifi without paying.
Most of them wont support custom roms because most of these phones come with some sort of crappy unisoc chipset
I have a Moto G stylus 5G from Cricket Wireless and it didn't cost me anything . It was sent to me when was upgrading to 5G service.

My first cellphone was a tracfone in 2004 - 2011. Very good phones.

These Kind of locked phones are actually illegal in the EU. The cheapest phones here cost a bit more around 60 to 70€ but i would say that once you reach the 90 to 100€ price thats were phones actually get usable for a long enough time. Damn. Glad I live in Australia where there's none of that carrier lock crap anymore
